Speaker 7 (01:30):
Man?

Speaker 5 (01:30):
I am excellent And.

Speaker 6 (01:32):
Wait a minute now, Alex, did we miss something that
in today a TV Thursday.

Speaker 7 (01:39):
There you go.

Speaker 6 (01:40):
Now we're going I feel good right now.

Speaker 4 (01:42):
For those that don't know that kid, Dina Mike is
JJ Jimmy Walker. Google JJ from Good Times and you
will see that he is a spitting image.

Speaker 6 (01:55):
No he's not. Are you kidding? He's not that handsome, are.

Speaker 4 (01:57):
You kidd He's close, y'all in the same ball at
the same tears.

Speaker 2 (02:05):
Wow.

Speaker 6 (02:06):
And you know what, Chris, if you remember that show,
he was supposed to be a big play. He stole
that show from uh the mother and father that was
their you know chance at of sitcom and JJ became
the start.

Speaker 5 (02:17):
That remember that that makes Yeah, he.

Speaker 6 (02:20):
Would he would become He was a name. He was
a no name that they picked. Uh and uh John
Amos and uh yeah, my father in law who was.

Speaker 4 (02:31):
A dancer in New York. He was like, did African
dance and all that stuff. Huh he he danced with her,
did he really?

Speaker 6 (02:38):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (02:39):
Yeah he knew her well forgetting her name well and
yeah she was Florida Evans on the show what was
her name?

Speaker 5 (02:45):
Mabel?

Speaker 6 (02:47):
I know it?

Speaker 4 (02:47):
Yeah we all, But what didn't that become an issue
like that they got they thought JJ was a clown, right,
They were like.

Speaker 6 (02:57):
That he came yeah, yeah, yeah, they were upset with that.
And then the producers because they started writing the scripts
around him. You remember, that wasn't the way the show started.
It was more about the mom and the role. Yeah,
but that was a fantastic show, Chris, I did. And
you know, also television we always had that the father

(03:18):
of black fathers, and most TV shows during that time
were always absent. But he had a father. They lived
in the projects. They didn't have money, are you at
that time? I mean, but he was Jeffersons. He was there, yep,
good times, he was there. What else but he was
but at least the Jeffersons he was rich, you know,
had a business and whatever. But I'm saying this is
like a lower class that living in the projects. But

(03:39):
the dad was there. So I always thought that, right.

Speaker 5 (03:42):
I agree with you.

Speaker 4 (03:43):
Like some people like look back and say, oh, they
had a project, like it was negative. No, it was
a black family, a nuclear family.

Speaker 5 (03:50):
They raised their.

Speaker 4 (03:51):
Kids right exactly, They had good morals, you know, the whole.

Speaker 6 (03:54):
It was a good show. They represented those parents and
the family. Chris Well, I agree even and I think
that's a show that does translate. I haven't seen a
lot of it lately. Have you watched it recently to know? Yeah,
it does. And of course one last thing, we all
had a crush on Thelma, I mean with the tight
jeans on Chris right growing up the Right we all

(04:17):
thought about Thelma like, wow, was just super fun, all right,
I mean really just super fire.

Speaker 5 (04:23):
It was just ridiculous, all right.

Speaker 4 (04:24):
Anyway, the Eye Couple crew DJ Alex Tyser aka Alex
de Vegan. One thing you can bank on good times
you will be here on Thursday because in the third
hour of the show it is Tyson's Tower of Trivia.
And the other thing you can bank on is that
Rob will be in the studio on Thursdays. Because that's

(04:45):
not I still win at least half of him because
he is still cheating. He has a huge advantage home
court advantage. But uh, yes, that will be in the
third hour of the show. The super producer Rob g
of course in the house on the updates, was that
my yes, Moncey Belanos, you just and on the social
media are man, Elijah seb Let's get to it. I mean, man, look,

(05:11):
I guess Rob to be an NBA coach today. Look,
on the one hand, you know, unless you go on
some type of run. I can't even say unless you
win a championship, because Frank Vogel won a championship, Mike
Buenoser won a champion But unless you go on like

(05:33):
a run, Rob and win multiple championships.

Speaker 5 (05:37):
You're hired to be fired.

Speaker 7 (05:39):
Right.

Speaker 4 (05:39):
The front office is not gonna fire itself. It's really
not even up to them. A lot of times, the
ownership is not gonna fire itself. Obviously, the front office,
you know, they're gonna point the finger at the coach
that can't get rid of all the players sometimes like
Bradley Bil. I'm sure they'd love to get rid of
Bradley Beil. I'm sure Rob, they would love to build
a more typical roster as far as let's get a

(06:04):
real point guard. Let's trade Bill for a real point
guard and build around Booker and Durant. You can't nope,
So let's fire the coach. But I guess the saving
grace Rob is that they make so much money. But
he just signed a five year contract this past few
was it.

Speaker 5 (06:21):
Rob g correct us? I was it five years thirty?

Speaker 6 (06:24):
Five years thirty one, Chris, That's what I saw.

Speaker 5 (06:26):
So he's got four.

Speaker 4 (06:28):
Years at what twenty six million dollars coming this way.
I mean, don't shed too many tears for him, but
it's just it is. I'll take a being fired Chris
Man exactly for that much money.

Speaker 5 (06:43):
If Bonnie Williams gets.

Speaker 4 (06:44):
Fired in Detroit, Robb, oh god, he got what eighty
four million over seven years? That contract was, Oh my goodness.
So but you know, it's interesting because we've seen kind
of the tail of two stars, I guess, the tale
of two legends, Lebron James, who has run through, you know,

(07:04):
a number of coaches. But now it's like, whether it's
really Lebron or not. The perception out there is that
Lebron is a coach killer, right, that Lebron is getting
all these coaches fired.

Speaker 5 (07:20):
People don't know, but that's the perception.

Speaker 4 (07:23):
And for Kevin Durant, Rob, do you know that in
the six years since Kevin Durant left Golden State he
has had six head coaches or it will be.

Speaker 5 (07:35):
A sixth head coach. You know, they gonna hire a
new guy obviously.

Speaker 4 (07:40):
And so his six head coach in six years, Rob,
And yet no one is saying Kevin Durant is a
coach killer when we know that he and Kyrie Irving
didn't want Kenny Atkinson, who had done a pretty.

Speaker 5 (07:58):
Good job Brooklyn.

Speaker 4 (08:00):
Right, No one's saying he's a coach killer, though, and
so what is that?

Speaker 5 (08:06):
Why do you think that is? Robin? What does that
say about these two players in this situation?

Speaker 6 (08:14):
Chris? What did I say? I know a lot of
people maybe thought I was a little too harsh when
I said he's NBA dead, But but he doesn't get
Nobody seems to be bothered by what's the stat that
you just gave out, which is incredible even about it?
Yeah right, I mean really like it just as good
as he is. And I'm not talking about his ability,
Chris and all that that is not I'm just talking

(08:36):
about on the consciousness of the NBA fans. Like he's
just not on that anymore. He was at the beginning
of the year, we talked about it. He was averaging
like almost a thirty one points a game at one point.

Speaker 4 (08:49):
Great year did even though he came down a little,
he still had a fantastic But he's not in that.

Speaker 6 (08:55):
He's not a part of the talk show circuit anymore. Chris,
let's just be you do the show every day. You
don't talk about Kevin Durant that often, do you?

Speaker 2 (09:05):
Not?

Speaker 6 (09:05):
Like before?

Speaker 5 (09:06):
You're right? You are right, Rob, You're absolutely right.

Speaker 4 (09:09):
Your term you use is NBA dead and like you said,
it sounds harsh, but I mean, let's just keep it real.
I think part for me, Rob, and look when they
got beat in the first round, was there a big
hub up.

Speaker 6 (09:25):
Nope, we got a tail between their legs, was all
over and they.

Speaker 4 (09:28):
Were We talked about Lebron and the Lakers for a
week after they got beat. They got swept by a
bunch of young boys, or at least they were a
team that's led by a young guy twenty two years old.

Speaker 5 (09:39):
He talked trash to Kevin Durant.

Speaker 4 (09:41):
Respectfully because that's his idol, and it was no big deal.

Speaker 5 (09:46):
And I think, at least for me, Rob.

Speaker 4 (09:49):
And hopefully this isn't a slight on Durant, I think
he's a top twenty five, maybe top twenty player of
all time.

Speaker 5 (09:58):
I don't expect anything really from Durant.

Speaker 4 (10:01):
No twenty five points a night, right, but not really
like a factor in winning. And you know, not gonna
dominate series, and he's just not. I don't expect anything.
We've seen it time and time again. And I will

(10:21):
say this, and I know you agree, because a lot
of people will just say, Man, Kevin.

Speaker 5 (10:27):
Durant ain't one a thing since he left Golden State.

Speaker 6 (10:33):
Yeah, since he left gold No, but.

Speaker 4 (10:40):
He in Brooklyn, he didn't get a change. I mean
that team was so banged up. And even when Harden
was playing against Milwaukee, Harden was a shell of himself
with the hamstring injury.

Speaker 5 (10:53):
And then the next year.

Speaker 4 (10:55):
Duran were healthy, but Harden had left like and then
Kyrie with the vac and Nations, so it just it
was just disjointed.

Speaker 5 (11:03):
I mean, yeah, they didn't get.

Speaker 4 (11:05):
It done at the end of the day, if they
have to wear it, but they I think it's fair
to say injuries and back, you know, off the court
stuff derailed them. Phoenix, Rob so far somewhat similarly, he's
had a little better chance in Phoenix, but still badly.

Speaker 5 (11:22):
Bill's always hurt. Durant himself has been hurt, but you know, so.

Speaker 4 (11:27):
That's just you have to put it in context and
give the whole story.

Speaker 5 (11:32):
But still Rob, you know, you just you are right,
NBA dead.

Speaker 6 (11:39):
NBA dead is the way that because it just people
don't seem to be bothered or moved. I mean, how
in the world. And again, do we think that Kevin
Durant would be consulted or have conversation? I would think so,
right that they would because of the front office and
people they would know.

Speaker 4 (11:57):
That's a good question, you know. I mean, you at
least want to find out if this dude was.

Speaker 8 (12:03):
In love with Vogel, if you wouldn't have made the move,
especially Chris with four years left on a contract, right
like that, Right, that's the last thing you're not trying
to do that.

Speaker 6 (12:14):
I don't care how much money you have. People aren't
just giving away money, right.

Speaker 4 (12:19):
I gotta be honest, Rob, if I were matt Ishbie
and I look Frank Vogel just like Darvin Ham and honestly, Rob,
just like every coach. Because there were things you could
criticize about Phil Jackson, Greg Popovich.

Speaker 5 (12:33):
Remember he got criticized. Tim Duncan wasn't in the.

Speaker 4 (12:35):
Game, right, so you can create and pop hasn't won
anything without Duncan. I mean, we know how bad they've
been since then, and so or or Kawhi. Really since
Kawhi left, they went championship after Duncan. But still they
were pretty decent with Kawhi. But I don't know if

(12:56):
i'd have fired Vogel Rob. And I'm not saying he
was great. I'm just saying, was that the problem? I mean, look,
if your players lose faith in you, there's only so
much you can do, right but Rob, But if I'm
gonna pay somebody twenty six million or whatever, do nothing

(13:19):
over the next he had to do nothing. And now
I'm gonna bring in a coach who you know, who
knows if he'll do well.

Speaker 6 (13:26):
Oh, there had to be something there for you to
make that move, Chris. That's just not not with for you.
You just you just gave the god a contract. There's
no way are you really making that unless you know
they went in and talked to the players and they
were like thumbs down, Like.

Speaker 5 (13:41):
You gave him a team with no point guard.

Speaker 6 (13:44):
Yep.

Speaker 4 (13:46):
Oklahoma City has Shay Gilgers, Alexander even Josh Giddy is
okay handling the ball. Minnesota has Mike Conley, you know,
uh who else Denver has? As now, Jokis is really
their point guard. But he's special, right, He's a true playmaker.

(14:06):
Devin Booker Durant Bill, they can give out assists, they
can handle the ball, and they can make plays. I'm
not saying they're bad at it, but they're not point guards.

Speaker 5 (14:15):
Jokis really is like a point guard, and that's the difference.

Speaker 4 (14:19):
And then you know, in the East, you got Drew Holliday,
you got Daris Garland, you got Jared or Jaylen Brunson,
and you got Tyrese Halliburton ron point guards.

Speaker 6 (14:30):
Ye.

Speaker 4 (14:31):
So, but let's blame Frank Vogel, you know, because we
gave him a team with no point guard.

Speaker 5 (14:36):
All right? Eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox.

Speaker 4 (14:40):
Why isn't Kevin Durant being criticized like Lebron for having
so many coaches get fired under his watch? Why isn't
he being called a coach killer like Lebron is in
some quarters? Your thoughts next, Christian Rod Diaka eight seven
seven ninety nine on Fox.

Speaker 2 (15:01):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Odd Couple
with Chris Brussard and Rob Parker weekdays at seven pm
Eastern four pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the
iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 9 (15:14):
Hey, I'm Doug Gottlieb. The podcast is called All Ball.
We usually talk all basketball all the time, but it's
more about the stories about what made these people love
their sport and all the interesting interactions along the way.
We talked to coaches, we talked to players, We tell
you stories.

Speaker 6 (15:30):
You download it, you listen to it.

Speaker 5 (15:33):
I think you like it.

Speaker 9 (15:34):
Listen to All Ball with Doug Gottlieb on the iHeartRadio app,
Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts.

Speaker 4 (15:42):
All right, it's the couple Chris Rob Parker live from
the Tirerag dot com studios on a TV theme song
Thursday eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox. Why the
difference in treatment? They're both superstars. Granted, Lebron is better
than Kevin Durant and all that, so yeah, we get it,

(16:05):
he's held to a higher standard, but uh, Lebron's being
called a coach killer by some. Kevin Durant is going
through as many coaches as Lebron.

Speaker 5 (16:14):
Uh, and yet no one really is uh saying anything
about it. What are your thoughts on? Why?

Speaker 6 (16:20):
How about Q in Arizona? You're on the odd couple
of Fox Sports Radio. What's up cute Andrea?

Speaker 10 (16:28):
Y'all show man riding home.

Speaker 6 (16:30):
Thank you, thank ours, our my goodness. We live in
Arizona hours.

Speaker 10 (16:36):
Yeah, man, Yeah, I did it for love anyway, I
hear you.

Speaker 11 (16:42):
So.

Speaker 10 (16:43):
Anyway, as far as Kevin Durant and my if they
talk about him like like uh uh like Lebron's because
he's more quiet when it comes to that circuit to.

Speaker 6 (16:56):
Me, uh he doesn't.

Speaker 10 (16:59):
Yeah, he is that, he's not vocal like that. But
as far as the Phoenic Son, the fans, oh my god,
a horrible out here. I see them. I'm from Chicago,
so what's wrong? Anyway? They act like they had one
a thousand championship he won. Chat.

Speaker 5 (17:18):
You've been closed a lot, but they haven't gotten over
the hump.

Speaker 10 (17:21):
Yeah, get over the hunk. But my thing is, if
you had Kevin Durrentt and and and Booker, why would
you go get Bradney Dill.

Speaker 6 (17:30):
Yeah that's another story. Appreciated.

Speaker 7 (17:34):
Cue.

Speaker 5 (17:35):
We talked Frank Vogels that part, that's for sure.

Speaker 6 (17:39):
Josh. Also in Arizona, you're in they couple of Fox
Sports Radio. What's up, Josh, Josh?

Speaker 5 (17:48):
We got him, we lost him.

Speaker 6 (17:50):
He's there, yep, go ahead, Josh, Hello, Okay, Yeah, we
hear you.

Speaker 1 (17:59):
Okay, okay, yeah, don't see the same as the last
caller had the right way.

Speaker 11 (18:06):
Kevin Durant is not a leader in a sense. Lebron
is a leader. He's orchestrated the whole team. He put
the whole team together, and when it doesn't.

Speaker 7 (18:14):
Work out and coaches are getting fired and they're talking
about some more.

Speaker 5 (18:17):
I didn't know that happen.

Speaker 7 (18:18):
I woke up to it, Like, that's why people are
giving him the pushback.

Speaker 10 (18:23):
Bro, You've made the whole team, You've put.

Speaker 4 (18:25):
That not well, no, that that's fair, whether whether it's
on Lebron or not, because I do think they have,
you know, not giving him everything he wants. He wanted
ty Lue, they didn't give it to him. He wanted Kyrie,
they didn't give it to him.

Speaker 5 (18:38):
So I don't know that.

Speaker 4 (18:39):
I think it's a little overblown at least, but I
agree with him Rob, like Lebron's a leader, you know.
Lebron's the leader of that team, you know, because of
how good he is. He has some at least some
say durant Is just comes off as just one of
the guys on the team, a great one, the best one.

(18:59):
But you know, what I mean, he's not because he's
not the leader. Maybe people don't put that on him
like they do Lebron.

Speaker 6 (19:04):
Yeah, that's fair.

Speaker 5 (19:06):
One more.

Speaker 6 (19:06):
Let's squeeze in Marty. Marty from Kentucky. You're on the
couple of Fox Sports Radio. What's up, Marty?

Speaker 7 (19:13):
How you doing this Thursday?

Speaker 6 (19:15):
Doing great?

Speaker 5 (19:16):
Good man? How are you?

Speaker 7 (19:18):
I'm good. I'm gonna tell you, guys, my perception. I
have that perception that you're talking about. And I've seen
Kevin Durant through the years, Like I remember how much
he praised Scott Brookes him and cursing him and Kerr
had a good relationship. I mean, I think he left
because of team problems and and and wanting to be

(19:40):
the man and him Kurt took up for him when
Draymond came after him. You know, he's like, you know,
we don't this guy. He's had better teams to have had
better relationships for coaches now Lebron. Only TYLERU is the
only one I could think of that he's really back in.
Tylou Tyler handled him with he let Lebron do Lebron,

(20:01):
and he coached up the rest of the team, and
I think they were smart. But we've seen Lebron this
this year with Darvin Ham. He's seen on the bench,
Darvin Ham's drawing, cooking up and Lebron ignored him and
walks away. We've seen shout at the bench and anger
and basically told a hit about wanting to challenge. And

(20:22):
we know what he did with supposed he went to
Riley and then with suggestions getting rid of him. That's
why the perception that you guys, yeah, that's that's fair too.

Speaker 5 (20:32):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 6 (20:33):
With Kevin Duran, you never hear anything publicly, Chris, you
know what I mean?

Speaker 5 (20:37):
Right, No, that's true. That's a good call, Marty.

Speaker 4 (20:40):
All right, Frank I sola rived, my buddy. He's covered
the Knicks just like you and me. He's done it forever.

Speaker 6 (20:46):
He's done it for Frank and those guys. I don't
know how I'm like, like, I mean literally, Chris, it's
thirty years. I've known Frank forever. You know. Oh yeah,
he's back to.

Speaker 5 (20:57):
The and I go back to the mid nineties with him,
You go back even first other than that, yeah, So
he'll join us around the corner.

Speaker 2 (21:04):
But first, Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk

Speaker 4 (21:16):
Our next guest goes back decades with myself and Rob Park.

Speaker 5 (21:22):
My god, you can see him on ESPN.

Speaker 4 (21:25):
You can hear him on NBA Radio. We welcome in
none other than Frank is soolo?

Speaker 11 (21:30):
Frank man, gentlemen, what's going on?

Speaker 10 (21:34):
How you guys?

Speaker 6 (21:34):
We're like family? Frank, you know that the three of us,
I mean, my god, we go all the way back.

Speaker 11 (21:41):
Rob, But were you all excited about that? I know
you're in New York, but we're excited about the Detroit Lions.

Speaker 6 (21:46):
You have to be right, No, well you cannot. I
discounted them the whole type in the Knicks too. That's right.
Everybody's on my case. But it's all good. Frank, go ahead, Chris,
you want to start about Frank?

Speaker 4 (21:58):
Yeah? Are you at the games? Have you been to
the games? These playoff games?

Speaker 11 (22:03):
I went, I went to one game and put up,
I haven't been going to the games at the garden,
but you could tell that it's it's pretty insane there.
And to the next credit that you know, what are
they six and two now? Yeah, playoff it does kind of.
It is reminiscent of the nineties, and it's nice to
see a lot of the players coming back, some of
whom never even won a playoff game when they were

(22:24):
in the Nick uniform.

Speaker 7 (22:26):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (22:26):
I was going to ask you seeing Spree well Marbur
I don't know if you covered Marlbury there, but I
think you did actually, but Spree Well Marbury A L. J.

Speaker 6 (22:35):
Blomberg is going crazy underneath the basket. I see him
every basket.

Speaker 11 (22:40):
Yeah, I mean it. Marbury one is interesting because like
it was kind of are well great ten you didn't
win the playoff series, didn't even want a playoff game?

Speaker 10 (22:51):
Wow?

Speaker 7 (22:52):
Right?

Speaker 2 (22:52):
Right?

Speaker 11 (22:53):
And I think I looked it up. He was one
hundred one games under five hundred uh one hundred.

Speaker 5 (22:58):
And one games under five hundre.

Speaker 11 (23:00):
Yes, sir, Yes, why it's tell us I keep doing.
It's like history is being made at the Garden and
there's some revision of history going on there too.

Speaker 5 (23:11):
Right, you're right about that. You're right about that.

Speaker 4 (23:13):
Jalen Brunson, you know, fifth in the MVP voting, obviously,
just way better than anyone, probably even than Leon Rose
and the Knicks.

Speaker 5 (23:23):
Expected talk about you.

Speaker 4 (23:25):
Know, his growth, how he's you know, why he's become
this good in New York. Uh, and what you think
kind of the future holds from I mean, people are
kind of foolishly talking about him being the greatest nick ever.

Speaker 6 (23:39):
That's ridiculous.

Speaker 5 (23:42):
Yeah, the future holding for him, and how he's become
so good in New York.

Speaker 11 (23:46):
You know, I think you know, if you do go
back and look at what he did at Villanova. He
was a winning player there.

Speaker 10 (23:51):
See.

Speaker 11 (23:51):
He won two national payerships, which nobody does anymore because
guy's always come out now. The first one he was
more of a role player, but second one, obviously he
was a leader. He's a player of the year. I
still don't understand why he went in the second round.
And then the weird thing was, you know, he started
playing really well for Dallas and the Mavericks could have
had him twice. He could have signed him.

Speaker 4 (24:10):
I think it was fifty million five years and here.

Speaker 11 (24:15):
And here's the here's the crazy thing, guys, as my
dog is going to kill somebody, here's here's the crazy thing.
Even if you're the Dallas Mavericks and you know, let's
say you don't like him and you think I don't
think he could make it. You always knew you had
a taker in the Knicks, so why wouldn't they have
signed him at some point knowing that with Leon Rose
running the Knicks, and you know Tom Thibodau was there,

(24:36):
they were trying to hire Rick Function at the time,
you knew that the Knicks would trade Froim, so that
part made no sense ash him as a player. You know,
the one thing Tom has had, You know, Derrick Rose
was an MVP under Tom. He won a playoff series
with Nate Robinson, and I think it was dj Augenstein
where his game seven point coss against the Brooklyn Nets.
But but Jalen his credit has become such a good

(24:57):
offensive player. So he's not going to blow you away
with his athleticism. He's not going to be John Ray.
He's not going to jump over you. But he's so
good in terms of understanding spacing and getting guys on
his hip. It's amazing. If you're a defender and you're
on his hip, you're either going to foul him, he's
going to score, or he's going to do both. I mean,
he had tell Youubrey on his hip the entire time
and Nicholas Petun in that first round series. He's become

(25:20):
so good offensively and you know this, and you guys
know this, the biggest shot of the of that series
against Philadelphia with him passing out of the double team
to Josh Hart. So even though he does shoot a lot,
in a lot of cases, if a man is open
in a in a crucial situation, he'll find a better
shot for a teammate.

Speaker 6 (25:39):
Right right, Frank, let me ask you about Frank Vogel
and what do you make of that? My god, no
point guard. They just signed him to a five year contract. Granted,
nobody thought that they get swept out like they did,
but but are you shocked or not?

Speaker 10 (25:59):
Not real?

Speaker 11 (26:00):
Because there was talk during the season that Kevin Durant
wasn't thrilled with him. But let's face it, you know,
thinking that Frank Vogel is the problem and finding a
better coach as a solution, it's much more complicated than that.
Because they didn't have a bench. They went out and
got and if you look at the NBA now, think
about all the guys that are out, it's becoming much

(26:20):
like a younger man's game. Maybe there is a changing
of the Guard. I mean step is out, Lebron is out,
Anthony Davis obviously, Kevin Durant is out, Kawhi is out,
Giannis is out, Damian Lillard is out. So you look
at what the Celtics did a couple of years ago
when they had all these you know, star players, and
they went out and got Derek White. You know, it's
like when they make a move like that, it doesn't
blow you away, but you need kind of like these

(26:42):
role players. The Wizard of the Wizards, the Phoenix went
all in with the Washington Wizards to get Bradley Beal.
What had Bradley Gal done the last couple of years. Yeah,
we all know that he's talented, but the guy's always
hurt and he had lost a lot of games in
sure enough, they gave up a lot to get him,
and he was hurt.

Speaker 6 (26:57):
A lot of this shit I'm about the Patrick Beverley,
I want to ask you about the suspension by the
league four games. Is that enough? Too little? Too much?

Speaker 11 (27:06):
It's weird. It's weird the way the league does stuff.
I thought they dropped the ball. You guys, remember Kelly
Ubra after a game this year. It wasn't a playoff game,
but they were upset about the efficient. He walked up
to all three officials and in their face he said,
you're you know what, you're you know what and you
know And I thought at the time, like, why would
the league make an example of a guy like Kelly

(27:27):
youber at least give him a one game suspension. But
Patrick Beverley crossed the line. You know the first time
he locked the ball, hit the woman in the head,
the fan threw the ball back and then he fired
it at him, so you knew he was going to
be in a lot.

Speaker 6 (27:38):
He could have hit a kid or somebody put somebody's
eye on it was a kid in the line of fire, too, right,
I want.

Speaker 5 (27:44):
To go go ahead.

Speaker 11 (27:46):
That wageous behavior. But we all know this too. You know,
everybody now is all about social media and he's got
everyone as you guys know, everyone has a podcast so
to see.

Speaker 7 (27:54):
So everyone is.

Speaker 11 (27:54):
Almost like in character all the time, and something has
to take a step back and say, you're a professional athlete.
He can't be behaving like that in a game. And
when we've all been in Indiana, we know the fans
there would be pretty rough at times. But there's still
there's still a ligne you you can't cross, and he
clearly crossed that line.

Speaker 4 (28:09):
Frank, I want to go back to the Knicks before
you go. I assume you don't think they'll beat Boston.
If you do, let me know about that. But I
want to know what do you think they do this offseason.
Let's say they play Boston lose maybe in six games.
What do you think their next move is to kind
of get to that next level.

Speaker 5 (28:30):
Do they try to trade Julius Randall for something?

Speaker 4 (28:33):
They obviously have a ton of draft picks, so what
do you think is the next step for them to
get to that championship level.

Speaker 11 (28:38):
I always felt that part of their plan was that
we're hoping that they could trade a guy like Juvus Randa,
maybe bringing in like a stretch for like Karl Anthony Towns.
But the way that Minnesota is playing right now, exactly
Minnesota could end up in a final. The tweet about
the Knicks because like, what they have going right now
is a good thing, because what they have with a bunch
of tough, hard playing guys, and I think you know

(29:00):
last year, you look at the Boston Celtics and Miami
is more talented than The next team was last year's
Miami team with Jimmy Butler and pam Meanebayu. But that
was the one kind of team that gave Vinnix troubling.

Speaker 1 (29:10):
You.

Speaker 11 (29:10):
I do the radio show in the morning, Brian's Calabrini,
who does the Celtic the games, and even more like
than a month ago, he said, the team that would
worry me if I'm the Celtics is the Knicks because
it just so physically and mentally tough. We'll see how
Boston does because remember last year. I mean, you guys
know they lost Game one to Philadelphia. They you know,
they had to get out of Philadelphia in that Game six,
they came real close to be knocked out in the

(29:32):
second round. Then against Miami, they lose the first three
games of that series. So they and then they lost
Game two this year to a depleted Miami team. So
I still think, even more so than Denver, I still
think it's Miami's title to lose. But they're vulnerable. They've
shown you know it. Certainly last year they look soft
in a lot of big moments.

Speaker 5 (29:52):
No, that's true.

Speaker 4 (29:52):
I agree, like I think the Knicks will give them
a tough series, just because as you said, they're like
Miami in that regard, you know, mentally tough, and I
do wonder a little bit about Boston's mental toughness. We
know they're not that good in the clutch, and so
they even in the playoffs, they've been blowing everybody out.

Speaker 5 (30:11):
But we'll see what happens if it's a close game.

Speaker 4 (30:13):
So all right, all right, Frank always guys on man
check him out on NBA Radio.

know what that is?

Speaker 9 (30:43):
Rob?

Speaker 5 (30:44):
Isn't that merried with children?

Speaker 6 (30:46):
No, that's not married with children? That that's the show
after Seinfeld. Wasn't it your enthusiasm? That was it? Yep?

Speaker 5 (30:56):
All right, Well with the Eye Couple.

Speaker 4 (30:58):
It's a TV theme song Thursday here in the tire
Iraq dot com studios and it's time for shekel ce.

Speaker 2 (31:05):
Welcome to Shekel City, the whole base for Rob Parkers
Dally Dix against the spread.

Speaker 6 (31:17):
All right, Chris, here we go, Shekel City. I got
the best bet thunder minus four and a half taking
on the Mavericks thunder minus four and a half. I
got the Calves Chris plus thirteen and a half in
Boston against the Celtics, and guess what, they're leading by
three as we speak. I expect them to lose.

Speaker 4 (31:37):
You got you got for Let's go back to the
first game. You got okc winning?

Speaker 6 (31:42):
Yeah? Mine went up to yep, wow, Okay. I don't
like the way Luca looked. That's why I'm not going
with them. I just you better have a bounce back then,
you know what I mean. I just don't like the
way he look He hobbled too much for me. But
I got the Cavaliers losing, Chris, but covering at thirteen
and a half.

Speaker 5 (31:58):
Yeah, thirteen and a half.

Speaker 6 (31:59):
Thirteen and a half half after what they did? You
know they got drilled the first game?

Speaker 4 (32:03):
Yeah, I mean, Boston blows a lot of people out.
They're winning by an average of twenty two points in
their wins.

Speaker 6 (32:10):
I know. I just took the thirteen and a half
tonight and one baseball game. I got the Brewers plus
one and a half runs. They're hosting the Saint Louis
Cardinals Chris in Milwaukee. So Brewers plus one and a half,
Cavaliers plus thirteen and a half, and the Thunder minus
four and a half. And remember, I'm not telling you

(32:30):
who the bet on. I'm telling you who I bet on.

Speaker 4 (32:34):
All right, it is the eye couple here. And like
you said, Rob, right now, at least Cleveland is hanging out.
I think last game, in Game one, I think it
was relatively close early and Boston pulled away if I
remember correctly. But the Calves, you know, look, there was
talk could JB. Bickerstaff be in trouble? I think winning

(32:59):
their first round series over Orlando. It was in seven,
but they won. I think that should save his job.
I mean again, Rob, you're running out of coaches with
any experience and you bring in.

Speaker 6 (33:13):
There's nobody here. There's nobody left. I'm telling you it's
nobody has a championship. The only ones are the guys
who have been fired lately. Frank Vogel Bunoser like those
are the guys with champions They're not like that. All
the old guys are too old. Okay, So there's nobody there,
and now you're you're going so thin on the coaching ranks.
You're now talking about JJ Reddick and people like that

(33:36):
with no coaching experience, right right. I would rather see
a Jerry Stackhouse get an opportunity before JJ Reddick. That's
just me.

Speaker 4 (33:43):
I mean, he was got some coaching experience. He's at
some level, you know, And and even it's just the
bottom line is you don't know what you're getting with
a new guy. And I get it a lot of
you know, at some point the coaches have to start,
they have to have a first job.

Speaker 6 (34:00):
But they don't have to be an NBA job, right right.

Speaker 5 (34:03):
JB.

Speaker 4 (34:03):
Bickerstaff has done a good job there, and I definitely
think it'd be a mistake to move on from him,
because Rob one thing you see with a lot of
the good programs Oklahoma, see they give their coach some
rope continuity, and we look, Utah never won it, Rob,

(34:23):
We understand that, but they kept Jerry Sloan for what
was it twenty two years or something like that, and
they were good pretty much every year under him, you know,
And so again I get it. And probably in a Utah, Rob,
there's not the pressure to win it, all right, Just
being good and really close is good.

Speaker 5 (34:44):
I mean, I know they want to win it, but
maybe that helps.

Speaker 4 (34:47):
But I think stability unless your coach has lost the
team and done a clearly objectively bad job, especially in
this climate today, Rob, I think you might be best
just keeping it so we'll see.

Speaker 5 (35:05):
But how high are you on Boston do you think?

Speaker 2 (35:10):
Like?

Speaker 5 (35:11):
And Look, it's not a guarantee.

Speaker 4 (35:12):
That Nick will get out of this round, because let's
see what happens with Jalen Brunson. Obviously Ogiana Nobe is
out right and he may not be back for these playoffs.

Speaker 5 (35:22):
I mean, Hamstring, we know how serious that can be.

Speaker 4 (35:26):
And we know, Rob, their season turned around when they
got Anenobe in that trade from Toronto. So I don't
it's not a guarantee they're going to get out of
this round. But do you see anybody in the East
challenging Boston?

Speaker 6 (35:42):
Not really. I expect Boston to come out of the East.
It might not be a cake walk like they've done, Chris,
but ultimately I think they win four games against anybody
else in the East.

Speaker 5 (35:52):
I do, Yeah, I agree, they should get to the finals.
I think.

Speaker 4 (35:59):
Now, look, would I pick Oklahoma City over them? Not
sure what I picked Dallas, that would be an interesting one.
I would pick Minnesota or Denver over Boston. I really would.
I just Boston. I think they're They're not up and down.
They're generally up. You know, I'm not gonna act like

(36:21):
they're schizophrenic team, but they're lows are low, and you know,
they haven't been great in the clutch. They're top player,
Jason Tatum hasn't and a lot.

Speaker 5 (36:34):
Of these games rive.

Speaker 4 (36:35):
As you get deeper to the playoffs, they're gonna be
closer games, so you better know how to handle things.
Look at the Knicks, rop they win, they know how
to handle things in the clutch. I mean, their games
are all close. It's weird because it really is like
going back to the Indiana Knicks old Indiana Knicks.

Speaker 5 (36:54):
Series when they were always close.

Speaker 4 (36:56):
Miami New York always close in the playoffs, and here
there we go again, same thing.

Speaker 5 (37:01):
But the Knicks have been prevailing. But uh yeah, I agree.

Speaker 4 (37:05):
I think Boston Derek Whites emerged, Jason Tatum has another
level he can go to because he hasn't shot the
ball well in the playoffs, so keep an eye on that,
all right.
