The Way tire Buying should be coming up in about
twenty eight minutes. Eddie House the NBA champ of course,
Fox Sports Radio, NBA Insider, and he also works at
the NBC Sports in Boston.
Speaker 3 (01:32):
He does the Celtics stuff for them as well.
Speaker 1 (01:34):
So we'll catch up talk some NBA there, but let's
go here Major League Baseball and he from we talked
a little baseball yesterday, and you're saying, you're a Dodger guy.
You grew up here, you're Dodger fan. And in the
off season, we know what went down. The Dodger spent
over a billion with a B a billion with the
B dollars. The biggest thing was show hail Tony. They
(01:58):
stole them from the Angels. Seven hundreds still the right,
They still them. They stole the seven hundred. As a
former athlete, Come on, when you first heard the news,
just give me what what Seriously, I just stood up
and started clapping that that's it right there.
Speaker 3 (02:19):
Could you believe it? Yeah? I could believe it. You
gotta think about how he took.
Speaker 1 (02:25):
We didn't even mention, y'ammodo, you know who they also
got right, and then he signed a deal for three
hundred and twenty five.
Speaker 3 (02:32):
Million, yes to play it. What's your question?
Speaker 1 (02:37):
So my question to you coming in because before the
season started I picked the Yankees and the Dodgers in
the World Series. First time dream for baseball and it
hasn't happened since.
Speaker 3 (02:49):
Guess what year you ready?
Speaker 1 (02:50):
Nineteen eighty one. That's such a long time. It would
be great. You're in your forties, big oh you think,
I am my god? But the two big teams right
East Coast, West Coast, story franchises all that with big
(03:14):
names Judge and and Otani who both could win the
MVPs in each league.
Speaker 3 (03:18):
I mean, it would be like a thing may have.
Speaker 1 (03:21):
But there's only one problem the Dodgers. Despite that, they
have a good record, the second best record in the
National League, only behind the Phillies. Right, so they got
a good record, But there are two other teams in
the West who are playing real well and have closed
the gap, the Padres and the Diamondbacks. Only two games out.
(03:44):
Do the Dodgers have to make it to the World
Series or win the World Series to justify the spending
what they did?
Speaker 3 (03:55):
You know what I mean to build their team.
Speaker 1 (03:57):
We know the Dodgers they won and two that was
their first World Series since eighty eight.
Speaker 3 (04:04):
It was a long drought. One thirty five years.
Speaker 4 (04:06):
Was all Herscheiser baby, Right, they do they do what
they do, have to get to at least.
Speaker 3 (04:17):
At least in the World Series to just that, because that's.
Speaker 4 (04:21):
You know, the knock on the Yankees when they were
going to all the World Series and winning it. Oh,
they're just buying championships, they're just paying So okay, so
can you open your wallet and go pay for the
part of it. And so now that the Dodgers have
done it, yeah, the goal is I mean, they make
(04:42):
the playoffs, they have a great record. Yeah, they win
the division almost year. It's all great, that's all great,
but they find a way to fall short. Except for
in twenty twenty, a shortened season pandemic, they won the
World Series.
Speaker 3 (04:59):
So yeah, in.
Speaker 4 (05:00):
Texas and I was there for that, they went all in.
And so when you go all in when you're at
the poker table, I don't know if you play poker, Yes,
when you're at the poker table and you look and
you got oh man, pocket asis pocket ass, best start
in hand you can have in poker, and you push
(05:21):
all in. You're not pushing all in to you know,
be winning after the turn, after the flop, be winning
after the turn. You're pushing all in to be winning
after the after the river, right, you want to win
the pot. So if you're gonna go all in, if
(05:41):
you're gonna spend over a billion dollars to bolster your roster,
then yes, the goal is the World Series.
Speaker 3 (05:49):
Now, whether you win that.
Speaker 4 (05:50):
Or not being there participating, that's that's the payoff.
Speaker 3 (05:55):
Right. We did it, we went all in.
Speaker 4 (05:58):
We now we have a chance, we have a chance
to win the national u UH World Series a title.
And so yes, that is the only goal. Anything else
is a failure. Anything else failure. When you when you
when you dedicate that amount of money, that amount of
salary to accomplishing your goal of getting to the World
(06:23):
Series and winning again, you can't fall short.
Speaker 1 (06:26):
And that's why Dave Roberts are definitely on the hot seat, scalding.
He's on a hot seat if this thing doesn't work
out or they don't get to wear it.
Speaker 4 (06:35):
Didn't it didn't help that they miss Mookie No No
for a month and a half.
Speaker 1 (06:39):
Teams have injuries and and people could say, well, Garrett
Cole was hurt for the Yankees for most of the season. No, no, no,
I'm just saying what you have no doubt about doubt,
But I'm just saying other teams have had injuries, and
you can't just use that as the reason, especially when
you despite that that taking best record in the National League.
Speaker 3 (07:01):
Right, So despite.
Speaker 4 (07:03):
That, and also they're pitching wolves, they they're Charlotte. It's
been you know, kind of like the walking wounded for
them this year. They're healing up now. Everybody's getting back,
and this is when you want everybody to come back
heading down the stretch a couple of months out before
the end of the season, I believe forty games or thirty.
Speaker 3 (07:26):
So this is the right time.
Speaker 4 (07:29):
This is when you want everybody to be off the
injured list and everybody to be able to participate. So
they got a good shot, but that's the only shot.
They gotta get to the World Series.
Speaker 1 (07:42):
If they don't get to the World's it will be
one of the biggest flops in sports. It just will be.
I don't know how you can look at it anyway.
When you look at the lineup. Freddy Freeman, right, Mookie Best, Hey,
Will Smith. I mean you could go on and on
(08:02):
and on look at look at this team and say, really,
like this didn't happen. They didn't get not again, get
to the World Series. I'm not saying anything could happen
in the seven game series. Right if they get there,
they can get beat. You can get beat. Yeah, you
can get beat. And and look at the look at
the Patriots eighteen to oh right, they got beat. You
(08:23):
can get beat in the big game. And that was
a disappointing scene. But it wasn't a flop.
Speaker 3 (08:29):
No, they got beat.
Speaker 4 (08:32):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (08:32):
But the Dodgers have a lot riding on this because of,
like you said, the amount of money that they put
into this, uh to try to win.
Speaker 4 (08:42):
They went all in. They pushed all the chips in.
They pushed them all in.
Speaker 1 (08:48):
And and and I'm not mad at them, but but
I wonder. Okay, so here's my other question for fans.
Do you like this and root for a team that's
trying to win and push us all in? Or do
you root against the team like this and hope they
lose ethrom because you feel like they all look at them,
(09:08):
they went and they paid for all the great players,
and they're trying to buy a championship.
Speaker 3 (09:13):
I'm saying other fans of a sport.
Speaker 4 (09:15):
I don't know any team that hasn't bought a championship.
Speaker 1 (09:18):
The teams that didn't buy championship, what do you mean,
Like they developed players and they you.
Speaker 3 (09:22):
Can develop players. Used to have to pay those players, no.
Speaker 1 (09:25):
At some point, but they didn't go out and spend
nobody's going out and spent over a billion dollars to
add two free two of the best players on the planet.
Speaker 3 (09:31):
They just add if you do. Did they have the
opportunity to do that other teams? Yes, of course they did.
Speaker 1 (09:36):
Then what we're talking about, I'm just saying, it doesn't
mean that people won't feel a certain way or do
you root against like like, you know, this the evil Empire.
That's what they used to call it, Evil Empire. The
Dodgers are now the evil empire.
Speaker 3 (09:52):
They are they don't wear black, but they're the evil
Empire and baseball.
Speaker 4 (10:01):
They went out and they have a roster full of people,
full of players that people love.
Speaker 1 (10:07):
Not likable, very I agree, So what are you not like?
Speaker 4 (10:12):
It makes it hard, It makes it really hard not
to roof them, not to like him, and not to
and that in itself it is is difficult to do.
Speaker 3 (10:25):
No, I agree. I agree with that there are players.
Speaker 1 (10:30):
Even if you grew up, say you grew up and
you hate the Yankees just they wont all the time?
You hate the Yankees whatever? If you look at and
we talked about them. Can you hate Aaron Judge?
Speaker 3 (10:41):
What is he done? You just can't write?
Speaker 1 (10:44):
You can't hate you get the captain either, you can't.
You can't hate Mookie Beths. You can't hate Shoe what what?
What would be your hate on any of these players?
But I do believe that there are people who hope
that this blows up and it doesn't work out.
Speaker 4 (11:01):
Everybody you know west of Nevada, East of Nevada.
Speaker 3 (11:07):
You don't think there are people going, I hope this
blows up in their face. They went out and spent
a billion dollars in the off season, and look at
them scuffling. Let's scuffling a little bit right now. They
still got a great record. They got a great record,
but it feels like they're trending down. Would you agree
with that or not? Well, you know what, that's the
thing that I've been saddened by. The inconsistency.
Speaker 4 (11:29):
Right, you go nine games, win nine games, and then
you lose seven and I'm like, what, what will slow down?
Speaker 3 (11:35):
Well, we can't be can't be both? Right, can't be
both especially with that lineup? All right?
Speaker 1 (11:40):
Eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox eight seven, seven, nine, nine,
six sixty three sixty nine.
Speaker 3 (11:49):
Through the Dodgers, a couple questions.
Speaker 1 (11:52):
Do they have to make it to the World Series
to justify this whole spending a billion dollars in the
off season? And as a fan, are you rooting against
them and hoping that this blows up and it doesn't
happen for him? Are you rooting for him and you
want to see this happen and you want to see
them come to fruition, spend a billion dollars, win the
World Series, be the storybook story that we thought they
(12:14):
would be because I thought they were going to be the
Beatles this year.
Speaker 3 (12:16):
I did. That's that's the way I looked at them.
We all did. How's the Beatles?
Speaker 5 (12:20):
Right?
Speaker 3 (12:21):
Yes, he'dy road on them, no doubt. All right, it
is the odd couple.
Speaker 1 (12:25):

Speaker 1 (14:17):
Rob Parker and Ephraim Salaam on a funky flashback Friday,
and we're talking Dodgers. They spend over a billion dollars
in the off season. Are you rooting against them? Will
let's be one of the biggest busts if they don't
get to the World Series or they don't win it.
Where are you on the Dodgers rooting for them? Rooting
(14:37):
against them? And how surprised at you that they're in
a race in the NLS for the division title?
Speaker 3 (14:44):
We got Andrew and tennessee you on the I couple
with Robini from what you got?
Speaker 7 (14:48):
How doing that?
Speaker 3 (14:49):
Guys? Great? What's up buddy?
Speaker 7 (14:52):
So I'm not in the mood to give the Dodgers
a pass whatsoever, but I think they do get maybe
a tiny piece of a pass because you look at
the contract they gave Otani. It's seven hundred million over
ten years. But you gotta figure they signed him as
a pitcher and a hitter, and he's not pitching this
year at all, so he split it in half. They
(15:14):
technically gave him less than judge than the Yankees did
last year. So I mean they're missing a big piece
of their rotation that they're counting on for nine years
to come after this.
Speaker 3 (15:24):
Yeah, but you.
Speaker 1 (15:24):
Got to admit, even coming into this year, I understand
that part of it, but you still didn't think that
they had enough glass Now they got right that. You
still didn't think Yamamoto was the big free agent pitcher
everybody wanted. They didn't have enough coming into this year,
even without Otani's pitching.
Speaker 7 (15:45):
Oh I'm a Yankee fan. When the news broke that
Yamamoto was going to the Yankees, I was ecstatic. And
then ten hours later he wasn't, So I was not
a stack anymore. No, I mean they've got they're loaded.
I mean, I get it. They should win.
Speaker 8 (15:58):
It, hands down.
Speaker 7 (15:58):
It's baseball. I guess that's why they play one hundred
and sixty two games.
Speaker 3 (16:03):
No doubt.
Speaker 1 (16:03):
Appreciate the call. Thank you paid seven to seven ninety
nine on Fox.
Speaker 4 (16:08):
We got Scott in Virginia. You on the odd couple
with Robin e from what you got.
Speaker 9 (16:12):
How are we doing with fellas doing great?
Speaker 10 (16:14):
What's up, buddy, I'm a correct gentleman that just spoke
before me. It is a seven hundred million dollars contract,
but Joey's only making two million a year for the
next ten years. That's being helpful to the team to
acquire more talent.
Speaker 1 (16:30):
But they did, that's true, but they still spent a
billion over a billion dollars in the offseason.
Speaker 3 (16:35):
That's what they did.
Speaker 10 (16:36):
That's what it's going to be combined. But there shouldn't
be any pass. I mean, it is World Series or bust.
And they've been like it's supposed to be like that
for the last three years. And I mean the talent
that they had in their lineups the last three years,
they should be the three time defending World Series champs
right now. But their pitching staff this year, I mean
they had packed it. They be aff hated, yeah, and
(16:59):
had a winning record.
Speaker 11 (17:00):
Last now was.
Speaker 10 (17:03):
Flame thrower in Tampa and they went and picked him up.
And then Yamamoto of course, and all that. He was
gonna be the number three, he said. Walker Muller probably
one of the biggest and scariest starting lineups we've seen
the date in a long time. There should be no pass.
It is World Series of busts. They year, next year
(17:23):
and probably until Freddy retires. And I'm a Braves fan,
so I'm cheering for Freddy because he deserves another ring.
Speaker 1 (17:31):
Yeah, no, I hear you that good point. Yeah, and
you're right, Thanks for the call. This is not a
one year deal. No, no, no, They're supposed to run
the table. They're supposed to have this year. It's next
year is on and on, and he.
Speaker 3 (17:45):
Ain't going nowhere, showing going nowhere.
Speaker 1 (17:48):
All these guys are signed, they'll be there eight seven,
seven ninety nine on Fox?
Speaker 3 (17:52):
Where are you on the Dodgers? Is it? They got
to get to the World Series? You gotta win it? Uh?
Is this wind up being one of the biggest bust
in sports history?
Speaker 4 (18:05):
We got Kyle in Virginia. You're on the eye couple
with Robinie from what you got?
Speaker 8 (18:10):
So tellas how you doing good?
Speaker 3 (18:11):
What's up? Buddy?
Speaker 8 (18:14):
I'll say you know Rob, you know I usually calling
about the Nuggets. I had to call it, my boy,
he from Zen. I wish you Chris and Rob. He's
from you. Chris and Rob will do a show.
Speaker 4 (18:25):
I'm trying to tell him to make it the odd
throuble man. I'm trying to do so.
Speaker 8 (18:32):
That's crazy, that's funny. But yeah, So being a guy,
I'm I'm a national fan, you know, I'm East Coast
Cunty Beach.
Speaker 9 (18:40):
Yeah, and we won that turtlem.
Speaker 8 (18:43):
When we won the national championship in twenty nineteen, we
didn't have like Dave Martinez. They were like, oh, he's
the whisper, you know, he's a guy. It's like, oh
Dave Martinez, Well he look at how long did that lasted?
So I think the manager, you know, for the Dodgers
is gonna have to make a big impression. You're gonna
(19:05):
have to get these guys in the finals. If they're
gonna pay that much money, you're gonna have to do it.
Speaker 1 (19:10):
No, they have to. I mean, I'm no matter yep,
And no matter what, Ephraim, thanks for the call. Appreciated Ephraim.
No matter how it goes down, someone's gonna be held accountable.
Speaker 8 (19:22):
Right.
Speaker 1 (19:22):
Oh yeah, if this don't if this don't work off
with his head, hearts, there's no way that they'll just
go oh well, we'll get back, We'll get up next you.
Speaker 3 (19:32):
No, no way, no, no, no, it's too much.
Speaker 4 (19:34):
It's too much on the line, Uh, the brand, the money,
the talent level itself, the talent level. We've been talking
about how talented that roster is h when they're healthy.
That bullpen is one of the tops in the business.
Their lineup is one of the tops in the business.
(19:55):
And so what is the excuse, what is the reason?
And and if there isn't a great one, then yeah,
someone's gonna be looking for John.
Speaker 3 (20:09):
There's only two places.
Speaker 1 (20:10):
That's the general manager upstairs, right or the manager on
the field.
Speaker 4 (20:14):
Yeah, I think we got another call. We got Bruno. Bruno.
You're in the high couple with Robini from what you
got Bruno Brooklyn.
Speaker 12 (20:24):
What's happening? Man? Hey you there, guys, Yes, how are you?
I'm good Man? Hey, rob dude, I'm your biggest fan.
But I gotta say one thing, ephim the smoke. He's like,
I've never you know what, as a Jets fan, I
never liked the guy because you always read taboc with us.
But I love the fact that he's online with you guys. Beautiful. Hey,
(20:45):
as far as there's this thing going on with everything
with the Dodgers and everything. It's like it's like the
Yankees that can spend a bundle, man, because you can't finish,
you gotta finish. Look at the season they had last year.
They had this unamazing season. Yep, you got to punch it.
Speaker 3 (21:00):
Out right, rab no doubt about it.
Speaker 1 (21:03):
And people aren't going to accept excuses, not with that team,
not with that payroll, not with those stars and Bruno.
It would be an unbelievable for baseball to have star
studied Dodgers, star studied Yankees, because.
Speaker 4 (21:18):
Would win with Baseball win Baseball would win in in
the in the in the heart.
Speaker 3 (21:23):
Of football season.
Speaker 1 (21:25):
With those two teams, Baseball would win seriously. And and
that's if this thing is scripted.
Speaker 4 (21:35):
Man, whoever pushing the buttons back there, they better start
trying to make this happen because that would be gold.
Speaker 3 (21:41):
No doubt, because it's been so long and we need
that baseball. I think it would be good. I picked
it before the season. We'll see it and if.
Speaker 4 (21:48):
It does happen, Rob, you and I were going to
the games, I'll take you to the Dodger games. I'll
take you go to New York but when we go
to New York, you gotta fly me out there too,
So you got to so you.
Speaker 3 (21:59):
Got the local here. You're not flying me anymore money
than me okay, yeah right, and playing in the league.
Are you kidding?
Speaker 4 (22:05):
I'm just al I made one hundred and sixty seven
thousand dollars my first year.
Speaker 3 (22:10):
That's what I made my first year as a reporter.
I'm just kidding. I appreciate you, man, all right. Coming
up next, we're going to talk with Eddie House.
Speaker 1 (22:19):
Of course, the NBA champ and NBA Fox Sports Radio
analysts will do that. Coming up for first, let's get
a check of the headlines with mister Steve de Seger
and Steve. I was on MLB Network today with Steve
Phillips filling in for Brian Kenny on MLB Now, and
(22:40):
I said Aaron Judge was the most exciting player, more
so than shoe Hail Tani, which you said on the
show yesterday here. Yes, so you know I used that
of course, of course, and he had another home runner
that I was right. That's all it takes, That's all
I guess. Is he not exciting? I'm talking about he's
(23:02):
a slug Oo's back.
Speaker 3 (23:04):
Do you know what he's.
Speaker 1 (23:04):
Batting in his last fifteen games, four to seventy five.
Speaker 11 (23:10):
By the way, whoever's number two on your exciting list
doesn't mean they're not exciting.
Speaker 3 (23:15):
No, I'm very exciting, just not as exciting as Aaron Jodge.
Speaker 11 (23:19):
Okay, okay, still waiting for those thirty five steals. We
were talking about that halfway.
Speaker 1 (23:25):
Hey, chicks loved the long ball, not the steals.
Speaker 11 (23:28):
Yeah, no long balls when it comes to By the way,
I would go one step further on when they talked
about the Dodger disappointment last year, it's the last two postseasons.
Speaker 3 (23:37):
Yeah, really, their first series wiped they got.
Speaker 1 (23:40):
They lost to the Padres two years ago, where they'd
never led in the in the series.
Speaker 11 (23:45):
Right, last year they never led against Arizona in the series.
But Padres and Arizona both in Division series eliminated to
Dodgers and then made it all the way to the
World Series.
Speaker 3 (23:54):
Crazy.
Speaker 11 (23:55):
Two huge disappointments for LA and anybody with this kind
of payroll deserves a conversation like you're having here. I
will say the top two payrolls in Major League Baseball
neither are the Dodgers. It's the Mets and the Yankees.
What's been the problem for the Dodgers this year is
a lot of the payroll has not been on the field.
Like Yamamoto that you were talking about. He threw a
(24:17):
simulated inning before this game in Saint Louis tonight. Will
do that a couple more times before they even decide
on a rehab assignment and coming back. So they've had
no names pitching, and the starting pitchers have not lasted,
and that's over taxed the bullpen, and therefore the bullpen
has blown late leads like I have not seen recently.
Speaker 3 (24:37):
It's been bad. They gave up two games in Milwaukee.
Speaker 11 (24:40):
And they're a couple of five nothing games. They gagged
late and Justin Robleski is the Dodgers starting pitch night,
Thank you Bobby Miller. With an era of seven majors
and minors this year is going to be starting tomorrow.
Clayton Kershaw off major shoulder surgery is going to be
starting Sunday. Tyler Glass, now LA Native, was placed on
the injured list tonight by the Dodgers with elbow tendonitis.
(25:04):
They did acquire l Native Jack Flaherty at the trade deadline,
but again, huge payroll, just not a lot of it
on the field. Mookie Betts is just homered, by the way.
So the Dodgers are at Saint Louis tonight, Cardinals four
to three over LA. In the top of the sixth
inning the Yankees, Aaron Judge hit his forty fourth homer.
Yanks won three to nothing at Detroit to start the night.
(25:26):
The Yankees and Orioles were tied for first in the
Al East. The Orioles are losing at home Boston eight
to six in the lead in the bottom of the
sixth inning, Royals lead now seven to one at the Reds.
In the bottom of the ninth, Philly's now tied with
the Nationals two to two. Washington evens it up game
in the top of the ninth inning to the eighth
at New York, Mets seven to three over the Marlins.
(25:49):
Mets chasing the last wild card in the NL, to
the sixth inning Twins four to two. Leaders at Texas.
Texas and Houston have spent a lot with payroll this year.
Houston losing at home four to one to the White Sox.
Speaker 3 (26:01):
Oh wow.
Speaker 11 (26:02):
The top of the six The White Sox, with a
record of twenty nine and ninety three this season, Can
we say that again out loud? Twenty nine and ninety.
Speaker 3 (26:11):
Three, I'll believe.
Speaker 11 (26:14):
Brewers are shutting out Cleveland five to nothing in the
bottom of the fourth, and the Padres are down at
cors Field Rocky six to two over San Diego bottom
of the third. Dodgers right now have a lead of
just two games in the nl West over Arizona and
San Diego. Those two of each one nine of ten.
Pittsburgh has ended its ten game losing streak five to
three over Seattle. Cubs won in ten inning six to five.
(26:37):
Today a final from the WNBA. Indiana holds on over
Phoenix ninety eight eighty nine Caitlin Clark with twenty nine points,
ten assists and five turnovers. Tadeki Matsuyama has tied for
the lead at the PGA's playoffs in Memphis. No NFL
exhibition games tonight, most teams will play tomorrow. The Bengals
gave kicker Evan McPherson a three year extension.
Speaker 4 (26:58):
Back to you and just one of those turnovers where
at the end of the game where the clock was
running down, they were up, she didn't shoot.
Speaker 3 (27:07):
She turned the ball over.
Speaker 4 (27:08):
She just dribbled the ball out and gave it to
them with like six seconds left.
Speaker 3 (27:12):
Turnover, turnout.
Speaker 1 (27:15):
All right, Steve, have a great weekend. Now it is
the couple of Fox Sports Radio broadcast live from the
tirerech dot Com studios, Rob Parker and e from salam
And for Chris Bucharlet's welcome to our man, Eddie House,
of course, NBA Champ, Fox Sports Radio, NBA Insider, and
(27:39):
of course NBC Sports Boston as well.
Speaker 3 (27:43):
Eddie House, what's up? Say hi to Ephrom what's.
Speaker 9 (27:47):
Up from Eddie?
Speaker 7 (27:48):
What?
Speaker 9 (27:48):
Hey? Did you leave out Emmy Award winning?
Speaker 3 (27:51):
Yes, I'm sorry, you're right, Emmy Award Winning?
Speaker 9 (27:55):
Did I miss that?
Speaker 3 (27:57):
Yes?
Speaker 1 (27:58):
I'm sorry me Award winning analyst.
Speaker 3 (28:02):
Eddie Howse Yeah, my hey Eddie. Let's go here, man,
let's start here.
Speaker 1 (28:09):
Brad Stevens came out and said that Jalen Brown will
use what happened to him or didn't happen to him
not being on the Olympic teams or whatever.
Speaker 3 (28:18):
As fuel for this coming season. Do you look at
it like that?
Speaker 1 (28:22):
I think sometimes like and in the moment you'll be upset,
but it's a long basketball season.
Speaker 3 (28:27):
Can you really carry that the whole season.
Speaker 9 (28:30):
Yeah, you can't. You don't carry it the whole season
per se. You carry it right now. Why all of
this is happening, why it's all fresh and going on.
It's your motivation. It's the way that it's the extra motivation.
You already got motivation to get up and make something
happen and to try to be the best you can
because you know what's ahead of you. As far as
(28:54):
when you win a championship, everybody is from that point on,
it's a championship game versu every single game, no matter
who you play. And so it's that extra motivation. I
think Jalen know one, Jalen myself talking to Jalen plenty
of times.
Speaker 8 (29:15):
This is extra.
Speaker 9 (29:16):
He already is motivated, right because what do people say,
is Jason.
Speaker 4 (29:22):
Right?
Speaker 9 (29:23):
And so all of those things. I just think it's
a combustible perfect for.
Speaker 12 (29:32):
This team to go.
Speaker 9 (29:33):
Back to back.
Speaker 4 (29:34):
And speaking of Jason Tatum h and his lack of
playing time on the US men's basketball team and in
the Olympics, how do you think he comes in and
and what did you feel about that? What were your
thoughts on him not playing or getting a lot of
time on that team.
Speaker 9 (29:56):
Well, I can tell you what my real thoughts are
and they will be un censored. Straight Game Pod is
out on all platforms. Me, Mike, viviy Uh ty ellis
Uh and we talk about that. That's one of our
episodes that we just put out that we got going.
But I'll tell you in a nutshell that I think
(30:17):
it was BSU. There's no way that you're a All
NBA player three straight years and you get a d
n P in the Olympics, you know what I mean?
Like to me, that's that's just out of pocket. And
I have a conspiracy theory that I talk about on
the podcast again, Straight Game Podcast on all platforms.
Speaker 1 (30:39):
You can't tease it and not give us a little bit.
Can you give it a little bit? A little bit
of your conspiracy theory?
Speaker 9 (30:46):
Oh yeah, yeah, I'll give you a little bit. A
little bit. Is how divide and conquer? That's what they're
trying to do.
Speaker 1 (30:54):
Okay, So this will play into the season as we
go forward, you know. Steve Kerr, I just I can't
buy any Steve Kerr on not being able to find
time for Jason Tatum, I'm sorry, I just there have
been all great players on plenty of Olympic teams, right
and and I just can't buy into it.
Speaker 3 (31:14):
I don't understand it.
Speaker 9 (31:16):
I'm with you, Rob, I'm I'm one hundred percent with you.
There's no way you're All NBA for three straight years.
Speaker 3 (31:25):
That means you're.
Speaker 9 (31:26):
Top five players in the league for three straight years,
not by somebody being biased. And I'm not gonna ever
I'm not going to ever hold my biases. I am
one hundred percent Rowland with the Celtics. Okay, I ain't
holding there's nothing. I'm not going to sugar coat that part.
(31:47):
But even with that, come on, man, all NBA, like
stop it, you know what I mean? Like I could
I could vouch for Dalon Brown trying to be on
All NBA and they didn't get him, or being all
in NBA defense and he didn't make it. But Jason
Tatum All NBA for three straight years, you get two
(32:07):
d MP's in the Olympics. Did curse stop at.
Speaker 3 (32:14):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (32:14):
To me, it just seemed like it was a personal thing,
which didn't make sense to me. Speaking of uh, the
n b A and and the Olympics and the.
Speaker 3 (32:25):
Guys that played.
Speaker 4 (32:27):
How did you feel about the level of competition.
Speaker 3 (32:32):
Uh, the you know the UREA. It's way more NBA.
Speaker 4 (32:37):
When when you team, when you look at that Canada team,
your whole starting five or NBA players and you look
at some of these teams that we had to play,
uh in the Olympics. What what is What is the
state of basketball across the world in your opinion?
Speaker 8 (32:52):
I think it's great.
Speaker 9 (32:53):
I think it's the most global sport that we have.
When you talk about how the reach goes everywhere. You
don't get football players coming from Romania or Ukraine, you.
Speaker 8 (33:05):
Know, or Serbia.
Speaker 9 (33:07):
You don't get football players like that. You get basketball
players coming from there. You don't get baseball players coming
from places like that. You get baseball players coming from
the Caribbean, South America and the United States, you know
what I mean. So it's just the globalization of the
game and it's where they wanted to reach. I think
it's perfect. And that's how you grow the business the
(33:30):
game and the love of the game, and you get
people out of situations because they can play the game
that they will never be able to get out of
because that they are able to do such and provide
for their family. So I love that part of it.
But let me say this, ain't no, There ain't nobody
close to us. And I know you said Canada got
(33:50):
the five star they couldn't get out of their brackets.
So at the end of the day, I know there
are players, a handful of players that are really good
at our top level NBA players, But when it comes
to putting our best players against the best players of
any nation, I'm standing on it that it's going to
(34:12):
be a long time before another team beats us for
a gold medal.
Speaker 4 (34:19):
All right, his name is Eddie House. Appreciate that, Eddie,
Like I said, what's up?
Speaker 8 (34:23):
Man?
Speaker 3 (34:24):
And Eddie? What real quick? Don't your definition of a
clutch shot? I'm just cure, my god, I'm curious.
Speaker 9 (34:29):
My definition of a clutch shot is that it depends
on the situation and time.
Speaker 8 (34:35):
Like that's what.
Speaker 9 (34:35):
Steph curry them four to three. All of them was clutching.
Speaker 4 (34:40):
That's all we needed, Eddie, That's all we need arguing
with this man about that.
Speaker 3 (34:45):
Thank you. I appreciate three three of the four were
not all of them were clutched, Edie.
Speaker 1 (34:50):
You can't make a clutch shot up by six or
eight to come on a flud shot.
Speaker 9 (34:54):
You know you can when when the team's making a
run and they thank you, thank you, a clutch, you're
gonna make it. They go down, make a three, it's
down to five.
Speaker 3 (35:04):
That ain't no clutch. Don't don't look, don't don't fall
into an edit, right.
Speaker 9 (35:08):
Eddie, don't you know what I'm gonna do.
Speaker 8 (35:10):
Okay, I'm gonna do this. Rob.
Speaker 9 (35:13):
Let me ask you this. If you guys are up three,
you're playing your softball game. You up three in the
fourth inning, two outs, burners on second and third, and
you get a hit and bring in two runs. Is
that a clutch hit? No? Oh, you're lying now, you
know what you know what a clutch it is.
Speaker 3 (35:33):
You know what I mean? That's when Ray Allen hits
a hits a three, hits a three to tie that game.
That's a clutch. We appreciate you, right.
Speaker 9 (35:43):
He rob, Rob, I know this for a fact, if
you did that what I just said, that scenario, you'll
be like I had a clutch.
Speaker 3 (35:55):
I need to do that in the ninth inning and
then that would be cut. Eddie. Have a great weekend.
Speaker 1 (36:00):
Appreciate it all right, coming up next, Yeah, appreciate it
as we put a bow on this.
Speaker 3 (36:06):
Guess who's gonna play John Madden in this?
Speaker 1 (36:09):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (36:09):
What is it?
Speaker 1 (36:10):
Biography about the late great John Madden. Oh, you gotta
wait and find out. That's what they call the teas
in the business. Right now, we'll find out who's going
to play him and whether or not he fits the
role of John Madden.
Speaker 3 (36:24):
Will do that?
Speaker 1 (36:25):
Put a bow on this. It is The Odd Couple

All right, So, so, uh, Patrick, who's doing this movie
about John Madden?
Speaker 3 (37:49):
Do we know?
Speaker 5 (37:50):
We know who is being cast as mister mister video
Game himself, the Raider, Great John Madden, the man, the myth,
the legend that is playing him is none other than
Nicholas Cage. Wow, Nick Nick Cage, the very same.
Speaker 3 (38:08):
So are they gonna put weight on him obviously? Right?
Speaker 1 (38:10):
Yeah, I'm sure he's gonna be playing the.
Speaker 3 (38:14):
That's pretty good.
Speaker 5 (38:15):
Hopefully they're not trying to steal any declarations of independence?
Speaker 3 (38:17):
Was what was that guy from the movie?
Speaker 4 (38:19):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (38:20):
Uh Brandon? No, Brandon, the guy who played in all.
Speaker 1 (38:26):
The Egyptian movies, Brandon Fred who did the movie?
Speaker 3 (38:32):
Well? Uh did you like transfer from?
Speaker 8 (38:38):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (38:38):
I was unbelieved, like that didn't look like him.
Speaker 4 (38:40):
No, that's what happens in Hollywood. They pay you and
then you the character. So that was just a fat
But how do you make his face to he gained
weight and he definitely gained weight, but uh, makeup and prosthetics, man, unbelievable. Yeah,
so what do you think movie magic?
Speaker 3 (38:57):
I know Nicholas Cage as John Mann, see that. I
can't see that. I'm a fan of Nick Cage. I
like it.
Speaker 4 (39:06):
You know, he was one of the biggest movie stars
in the world for a long run. He had about
fifteen twenty years of being the guy doing a ton
of movies. Yeah, a ton of movies, blockbuster movies, not
just movies.
Speaker 3 (39:17):
But I think I think he can pull it off.
The essence of it. It's gonna be interesting about John Madden. Yeah,
I can't wait to see what they h.
Speaker 1 (39:31):
What I'm trying to think? Yeah, what would be the center?
Because he had you know, what's the center of it?
Because he had a short coaching career, but a successful one,
and most people know him as a broadcaster, not as
a coach of course, for a long time. And yeah,
John Madden jovial. Maybe I thought that h R. Puffing
(39:53):
stuff was going to play him.
Speaker 3 (39:54):
I was just a puffing stuff.
Speaker 5 (39:56):
Why not get Barney on this action too?
Speaker 3 (40:01):
John Goodman, John Goodman, that would have been a great one.
Oh my god, John Goodman would have been great.
Speaker 1 (40:09):
Right, yep, Harry, what about Harrison Ford playing when he
played the Brooklyn Dodgers on I thought he did a
great job Jack, I mean branch Rickey, right, he did
a great job in that.
Speaker 3 (40:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (40:22):
They're thestbians man, they're real life movie stars, right, and
that's what the movie stars supposed to be. Exactly like
when Jamie Fox became Ray Charles. He was Ray Charles
in that movie. It was incredible.
Speaker 3 (40:34):
You gotta make it. Do what they do, baby, Come on,
no way, moved his head everything. Come on now, you
know me, I just I just want to say.
Speaker 1 (40:43):
No doubt about it. Hey e from thank you my
man the last two days.
Speaker 3 (40:46):
Appreciate you man.
Speaker 1 (40:47):
You know what, what did you say to me a
little while ago that you would never worked with anybody
that's bright and a smart.
Speaker 4 (40:52):
What I did say was go to Peacock watch bel Air.
It's out now, first three episodes. Let's go all right,

Speaker 3 (41:01):
