(00:49):
we're coming to you live today from the Fox Sports
Radio studio. Good live, big show for you today. Obviously,
tons of stuff going on and we will get into
all of that. Wow, what a day. Let me welcome
in my partner, Rod Parker. What's up man? Hello, mister,

(01:13):
that's right. I was a little horse yesterday. You requested that. Well,
it's a TV theme so on Thursday come on. You know,
me and Alex are working side by side. But I know,
I know that's why you wina Is that what it is?
I know, unbelievable Alex, But yes, uh, you know, yesterday

(01:37):
was a little scratchy and I'm getting better, feel good
and uh I don't feel sick at all. Just my voice.
Um so I think this is way better, Rob. You knows.
I did the podcast, Chris, and it was a little rough,
but I'm ready to go a lot of good stuff
to talk about today. Yeah there is, Yeah, there is,
all right, and we're gonna get right into it. Let's

(01:57):
introduce the I Couple Crew of course, DJ Alex Tysher
aka Alex A Vegan on the Ones and twos, on
a trash or a TV theme song. Thursday super producer
Rob g in the House field in admirably for Rob
p last night, and on the Update our man Steve

(02:21):
de Seger. All right, Rob, the big news. Just days
after Kyrie Irving says he's going to opt in and
indeed did opt in. Kevin Durant, one of the best
players in basketball, requests a trade from the Brooklyn Nets.

(02:46):
Your thoughts, The whole thing is crazy, Chris ms. Sugunut
is the best way to describe it. I guess just crazy.
And for all the reasons you just talked about, you
knew Kywee was coming back. You could look at it
and say to yourself, if you're KD, let's see if

(03:06):
this thing we could finally all get healthy. And you
got Ben Simmons. You got Joe Harris, you got this team,
and let's give it a shot, like we haven't given
it a real shot yet. And when they did play
or when they had the Big three and they were
just play him, they were winning. And we talked about
it with a lot of NBA former NBA players who

(03:28):
just said, it's an arms race. They got a lot
of arms. But to bow out in this circumstance and situation,
especially on Kd's part, I think he's lost a lot.
And I'm talking about Chris basketball respect. No one's lost
any respect for him as a person. He can do

(03:50):
whatever he wants. He's playing a game he can he
could just do whatever he wants. But basketball wise, I
gotta admit I'm out on KD. And what I mean absolutely.
I think he's a great player. He's a great player,
and of course, and everybody admits that. Everybody knows that.
But I don't like the way he moves. I don't

(04:12):
like the way he has what he's done to his
career at just questionable move after move to me, and
it's hard for me to hitch my wagon to a
guy like that. I want to see him have success.
I'm not rooting against him, Chris, but but I'm not.

(04:32):
I can't stand in that camp because I don't understand it.
The franchise took both of them on, gave KD what
two hundred million dollars. I just don't gave him a
max deal when they knew he wasn't gonna play the
first season exactly like They've done everything they could do.
And I'm not here. I'm not a Nets apologist, but

(04:54):
I don't see what the Nets have done wrong here
and for KD to take another move where people look
at him and go what I think keys and not
all players, but this era has Chris developed and shown
us some of the most selfish players we've ever seen,

(05:15):
Like like they destroyed the Nets organization and franchise as
far as value and where they go from here. The
way they move around without any regards for anything, I
just don't think it's good. I think KD has lost
a lot of basketball respect and people will look at
him as like, yeah, he's a great player, and that's

(05:38):
about it. That's where I'm at. Well, what he looks like,
Rob quite honestly, is a lost soul. That's what he
looks like. On the one hand, I might say, he
looks like when the going gets tough, he gets out
of dodge in Oklahoma City. Yeah, he did stay nine years,

(06:01):
I believe it was, and he fought hard and tried
to get them a championship, but ultimately he left because
it was tough. It's tough to win the championship there,
and he went to a place and I didn't rip
him then. I'm not gonna rip him now. But we
all know it was a stack team. It was. It

(06:24):
was a stack team, and it was he played great,
he made them better, but those were they were eight
nine in the finals, relatively easy championships and now here
to your point, why not run it back? Why? I mean,
if they had played out next season and it went wrong,

(06:48):
then I would understand KD being like, we gave it
a shot, we couldn't get it done, I'm gonna go elsewhere.
But to your point, right, they didn't even give it
a shot. They didn't give it a real shot. And
I think that's the crime in this Chris. I agree,
like they really didn't, and k D is the big

(07:10):
culprit because I don't I don't know, is this a
rejection of Kyrie to me? Like, like, what do you
have state? If Kyrie would have play's talk that they
want to know together, but that who doesn't make sense
that they I've heard that they had. You know, there
might have been a little tension at one point, but

(07:31):
not a full falling out, you know, over Kate Kyrie
not playing and kind of leaving Katie hanging. But I
this is a part of the Lost Soul. You weren't
happy and oh casey, you're left there, your gold to
Golden State, you win two championships, two finals, MVPs, everything

(07:53):
is great, and you're not happy there. Not only did
you leave to show you're not happy, youth said when
you're won the championship, it was an empty feeling. And
then you go to Brooklyn. You got your own team,
You're playing with one of your best friends in the
league at least, if not best friends. Overall, the franchise

(08:15):
is bending over backwards for you, and you're not happy there.
Where are you gonna be happy? I hate to put
it this way because I hope Kevin Durant is happy,
but you look, he looks like a lost Souls into right.
This plays into what Rob I don't believe Kevin Durant

(08:38):
will ever lead his own team to a championship, Well,
maybe he doesn't even want to. I mean, maybe this
was the signal that he's not a leader by his
own admission, Magazine, twenty seventeen. But you could still lead
by by playing everybody's not. You'll always do that, you

(08:59):
know what I'm saying. So so he could, he could
be the leading player on a team that wiship he
was in Golden States, So I'm not saying that, but
I'm saying when it's his team and people are looking
to him to set the tone, build the culture, set
the tone for the culture, lead us. That's not who

(09:21):
he is and that's not a crime. But if you
look at the great players ride who've won multiple championships
or led dynasties, they were leaders, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson,
Isaiah Thomas, Michael Jordan's, Steph Curry, Tim Duncan, they are leaders.

(09:46):
They set They either lead vocally as well as by example,
or they lead by setting the tone for the culture.
This is how we do it. That's how Duncan is
Steph did it. That's not Kevin Durant, and again not
a crime. But I think now we know why all

(10:09):
his talent, all the great teammates he's had, that's why
he hasn't gotten it done outside of going to Steph's team.
And I think now ideally for him, Rob, he would
go to a place a Miami. That's maybe that's why
he wants to go to Miami a Phoenix. Maybe that's
why he wants to go to Phoenix because Chris Paul

(10:30):
is there. You know where you got a leader in Miami.
It's you know, whether it's Jimmy Butler or just the organization,
pat Riley, Eric spost to strong personalities. So you know,
I'm just it's shocking for somebody of that talent not

(10:53):
to be willing to know what's at stake. And that's why,
like you mentioned a little bit when he was to
Golden State and he said it was empty, and a
lot of you know, some former players you know, weren't
ready to crown them about about going there and making
that move, especially with a team that had beaten him
in the series before he joined them. Chris, and now

(11:16):
to just totally abandon what's going on when an organization
and Chris, we both covered the nets. It's a different
organization from when it was the New Jersey Nets when
I covered them, they won seventeen games a year, and
people can point fingers at the Nets. They haven't done
anything wrong. They were presented an opportunity that any franchise,

(11:39):
especially a franchise trying to make a name in New
York and win a championship for a franchise that has
never won in the NBA. I don't think it's a
crime if KD and Kyrie come and knock at your
door and you have a cat room to sign them. Chris,
I don't, no, I don't. You're right. Most places would
have done it. We can say they were wrong for

(12:01):
just turning over the franchise to these guys, but I
was talking to somebody earlier. Okay, if they had done
the right thing, if you will, and this is how
we run things. Even once they if they might not
have come number one or number two, they wouldn't have
been happy with that. They would have been upset that,

(12:22):
you're they had Kenny Atkinson as a coach. Kyrie said,
we don't need some guy that's gonna be making us
run the first day of practice, guy trying to put
his philosophy on us. So if the Nets had tried
to say, this is our culture. I lie the Miami Heat.
Guess what it would have Robbed. It would have been
the same thing. It would have been the same India, right,

(12:44):
it might have been earlier, right, right, right, and it
would have been the same thing. This is uh, like
I said, you know, maybe I'm wrong, but if you're
a fan out there, Chris and you're a KD fan
or just where, where's the respect level for him? It
feels cowardly, It feels weak. It cried which paper, it

(13:07):
feels cowardly. They are as good as bait. They basically
anybody in the NBA. Kyrieth point guard, Seth Curry and
Joe Harris, great shooters, Kevin Durant does it all? Uh
you if you want to bring back Nick Claxton, Um,
who am I? Ben Simmons great defenders, Patty like you

(13:29):
bring back paper on paper you had as you had
as much as anybody and you you're not even gonna
run it back one time? Right? Just to see right
right to your point, Rob, you haven't had a fools
the first year, Kad's out, second year, Kadi's out at

(13:50):
you know for some of the season, Kyrie Harden they're
all injured at point points in the season and in
the playoffs. None of they're not together for anything but
a few games, all three of them last year's out right,
like you haven't even given it a try. That's why
I think it's cowardly to cut, bait and run, rather

(14:12):
than say to yourself, let me give this a shot,
and then after this year you would know better. Chris
Kyrie would be looking for a new contract, whether or
not he's gonna be there or not. You could say, oh,
Ben Simmons didn't get it together. He's still screwed up,
you know what I mean. And then to me, that's
fair to say, it's just too many things here that

(14:34):
that need to go right, and it's not gonna happen.
And I right, and you know I ain't don't play
but ten games, see what I'm saying, Like that would
be fair to say that. But what he did here
was as as lame as can be. I think it's
a lame move by him. Rob. That would be the
second time many people said that. I didn't say that

(14:58):
the first time. I think this his work right? This
would be really I do I do? Why? Why? No?
I'm gonna say because this he's the main guy here.
He's the guy Chris, who's that the head of the
snake is is cutting bait? You know, like in that
situation where Draymond and them all begged him to come

(15:20):
or whatever it was. This was supposed to be his
moment to be that guy and to submit his legacy.
If he goes to Brooklyn wins a championship in New York, uh,
wins one for a franchise that has never won an
NBA championship, is the leader of the of the nets
or whatever, then people would say, yeah, he won with

(15:41):
Steph and them, but look, he went on his he
went to the finals with okaysee they didn't win. They
were young. He won two championships, was the finals. MVP,
came to New York with a lot of pressure and
this whole idea, this thing's gonna work, and they and
they won and they actually put it together in one
And that's why I say this is worse because he
key cut bait all right, eight seven seven ninety nine

sixty nine. You're turned away into Kevin Durant. Lose a
little bit or a lot of basketball respect with his
trade request. Today, you're turned away in with Chris rob

(17:09):
You're turned the way in the kad lose a little
bit of your respect today, basketball trade especially, right, that's
what we're talking um, Chris, let's kick it off with
Jason in Wisconsin. You're on the Odd Couple of Fox
Sports Radio. What up, Jason? What's going on? Tell us
what's up. I really don't think there's any difference between

(17:32):
him and Lebron. But Lebron doesn't get any flash for
what he does as Lebron never demanded or requested a trade. Well, no,
but he forces out coaches and players all the time
when he's well, that's not what we're talking about with Lebron. James,
but has always played out. He's always played out his

(17:54):
contract and tried to help that team win a championship
before he left. And then once he becomes a free agent.
Once he's become a free agent, he just makes a decision,
which is his right. Like when is he caused this
type of madness within the Durant just took a four year,
two hundred something dollar contract from the right and then

(18:15):
and then ask for a trade like he just he
could have said, that's not I'm sorry, we can't even
put those two in the same boat. I'm with you, Chris,
it's just not the same. Um. Let's go to Jay
in Virginia. You're in the odd couple of Fox Sports trading?
What up? Jay? He felt like y'all doing today? Good man?

(18:35):
How are you doing great? Doing great? Robin is exactly right.
You know, I lost a lot of respect basketball respect
for Kaye today with this this move right here. I
don't know what he's thinking because he's doing the main
thing is it's about respect, and you know for him
to just jump trying to jump around, I guess trying
to you know, chase rings, easy rings or whatever. He's

(18:56):
not only respect that way. Man. You know the thing
about Michael Jordan, people always forget it. It's not too
much what he did is how he did it. You know,
Mike got beat down year after year, but he kept
coming back. He didn't jump around, you know, he kept
getting better. You're right all the way through think and
then he didn't have to beg for respect because he

(19:17):
earned his respect. So you know the thing with KD.
You know, if he wasn't that respect, like like Rob said,
you got your prime opportunity right there in Brooklyn to
get it done. But that's the thing. It's not like
they're a bad team team, right, I mean, this is
this is this is this is on par rob with
James Harden quitting on two teams and the Houstoning even

(19:43):
though the team was bad. It's just not right to
quit on somebody. But this is you got a chance
to win a championship on paper, and and and then
Chris for his two top teams on his wish list
to be Phoenix and Miami, who were both the number
one seeds. Like, what does that say about you? Like
he didn't pick the Utah Jazz and put like like

(20:06):
I'd be like, oh wait a minute, oh wait pick
you talked Jazz, you picked Miami and and uh, Phoenix.
I mean that's ridiculous. How about Chili Tim in Atlanta?
You're in the odd couple of Fox Sports Radio. Ay, Tim,
I was looking for you at Magic City outside not inside,
but I didn't get to see you. Yeah, you guy

(20:28):
that slept that track out of my hand, Rob, I
saw you, am b Burn. Hey, how you guys are
doing it? Man? I can't. I can't say I think

(20:49):
that we saw this coming, To be honest with you,
I didn't see that. I think when he was quiet
about what was going on with Kyrie and I felt,
I think he took a look around and he said,
you know what, can we really trust Ben Simmons? And
I think if he and Kyrie are really good friends,
as they say the Yard, he knows Kyrie. He knows
that Kyrie is still gonna be unstable, that you're never

(21:12):
gonna know. Well, I think we would have seen that
Tim had Kyrie not re opted in. If Kyrie left.
I don't think anybody would have been surprised by this.
I agree, but I agree right now they could if
the reports are true that they still want to play together.
I don't think maybe this is a right. It might

(21:33):
not be true, but I'm just saying if it is,
because it's out there. It may be a situation where
they were talking the whole time through KD and Kyrie,
and Kyrie was like, look, I'm getting my money, so
I'm just gonna opt in and then you can you know,
if you request the trade, then they gonna trade both
of us and we could try to go to same
you know. But yeah, that's the fault in the reasoning.

(21:58):
There's not what anybody trade him. If somebody wants them
and they're gonna give the Nets back of Hall, sure
the Nets will do it. But I'm not going out
on my way to put y'all together trade y'all to
somebody together, like thoughts exactly. It does doesn't make any sense.
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in

(22:18):
the nation. Catch all of our shows at Fox Sports
Radio dot com and within the iHeart Radio app search
f SR to listen live. All right, Rob, let's go here.
Rerely from the Fox Sports Radio Studios as always, Chris
Bruce are Rob Park of the Eye Couple. You mentioned
Kevin Durant's wish list, the number one seeded Phoenix Suns,

(22:41):
the number one seed at Miami Heat. That's a whole
other story. Um for those that didn't like him going
to the Golden State Warriors, he's picking another top team
to go to. But Rob, I'm gonna say this, I
do believe that the best case scenario in the Nets

(23:02):
Eyes was we run it back this year with Kyrie
k D and Ben Simmons leading us, and we think
we got a chance to win a championship. We think
th Old Kd's gonna be motivated to win a ring,
Ben Simmons gonna be motivated to resurrect his career, and

(23:24):
Kyrie Irvan is gonna be motivated, if not to play
for US, then certainly to play for his next contract.
And we've got enough on paper we think to at
least compete for that Eastern Conference championship. I think that
was the number one desire in their mind. But if
this now that what's happened has happened, Kevin Durant requesting

(23:45):
the trade, Rob, I gotta be honest. If I were
Sean Marks running the Nets, I'm good. I'm good. I
have got a bunch of money to play with and
I'm going shopping. I got a million dollars and now

(24:07):
I'm going shopping for the car my dreams. Real talk,
because with all having KD and Kyrie and even James
Harden for already three years, two years didn't get us anything,
didn't get us further in the playoffs than we've been
without them. And now though I can trade Kevin duran

(24:30):
Here's where KD has to be careful. They don't have
to send you anywhere, Bro. They can send you back
to Oklahoma City. They can send you the Sacramento, they
can send you the Minnesota, send you anywhere they want.
You have four years left on your deal. And if

(24:52):
I'm the Nets, I am going for a big game.
I personally would not just be let me get a
bunch of young players and a bunch of draft pick man.
I want to win now, at least being the hunt.
And I got Kevin Durant, one of the best players
in the league. I'm going for big stuff Phoenix. All right,

(25:15):
Devin Booker, let's start with him. Let's start with that name,
and I might be to get DeAndre. We'll do a
sign and trade for him. If Miami Miami rob in
my view, Miami don't have enough. No, I wouldn't even
talking to them unless you got Miami. You can go

(25:35):
out and get a three or four team deal. And
you don't have enough. You want Kevin Durant. Phoenix will
do that. Where's Devin Booker. You're gonna make that happen.
Let's make it happen. You're not into a Supermax. If
you're not talking about Devin Booker, I'm not interested in
talking to you, right. So, because you don't want DeAndre Hayden,
we all know that they didn't get him. They didn't

(25:56):
want them, so they really knows. I'll take it, but
not by himself. But yeah, they don't known him, right.
That's so if I get Booker and Aten, now my
dream with Phoenix would be Booker and Eyton. But Phoenix,
don't tell me that's too much. You don't even want Eton.
So now let's work it out. That's what I'm talking about. It.

(26:18):
I'm I don't want your your your young role players.
I've been there, done that before KD and Kyrie came.
We are going big game hunting. And if it means
sending in KD somewhere he doesn't want to be, then
so be it. And and and that's what I'm thinking.

(26:42):
If I'm the next right, I'm not upset because I
don't know. Man. I hate to say it, but the
fact that they didn't even want to try to run
it back tells me they probably weren't gonna win it anyway.
And then and then you say to yourself, as we've
said before, I don't want anybody who doesn't want to
be there. You know what I mean? Chris, like like,

(27:03):
you gotta sendy yourself. You gotta come to the realization
and just be like, we're better off if this guy
doesn't want to be here. We don't want them. I mean,
why would you want them? You're not gonna give them away, Okay,
under any circumstances. It's a it's a commodity, it's a
part of your business. Right, I'm getting a time Rod,
But I'm just saying I'm not mad at moving on

(27:27):
and making a deal that's gonna make your organization better.
And that's the way I would look at it. And right,
what if I don't get that deal? For it? Like
it could come quickly, But what if I don't get it?
Guess what I see you in training camp? K Now,
I mean that if the deal, if it deals not
on the table? Right, you saw Kyrie with the with

(27:49):
the here's this wish list? What deal came Chris? No, No, right, okay, right?
It might not be something. And you might have people.
You just might Kevin is such a talented player. People
might have people No, I'm not saying that, but they
might be like, oh, you know, I get it. But
if we got to give up Devin or give up

(28:11):
you know, a star player who we really like, do
we really want to give it up to this guy
who's quit on a couple of teams, who's not the
leader in the club out he's a great player. But
you start to weigh all those things, Ryan, Chris and
the last part, and I think this is fair. He's
been hurt three years in a row or three I mean,
he's that's that's just fact. That's true. He's thirty four, Rob,

(28:35):
everybody Lebron James and have a twenty year career, right
And granted when he plays he's great still, you know,
as good as ever arguably, But to your point, Rob,
last year fifty five games, the year before that thirty
five games, and the year before it had he's out

(28:57):
the entire season. So your facts, you're right, But I'm not.
If I'm the Nets man, I'm sitting back, I'm kicking
my feet up on the desk, I'm putting my hands
behind my head, and I'm on the phone or waiting
for the phone to ring because i have money to

(29:17):
burn now and I'm ready to spend it. What do
you got to offer me? That's how I'm feeling if
I'm the Brooklyn Nets. All right, it is the Y couple,

All right, Chris, last night Sheckel City. I was two
and one, not bad on a bad throat, but two

(31:09):
and one miss one game, not bad? All right? Tonight
sheckel City soon to be sponsored by Caesar's Sports Book.
By the time the soon to be no as you
were saying, that nine months ago. Yeah, did the baby
come ye anymore? No? All right, I'm still waiting on
the baby nine months. Maybe it's the baby's gonna wait
till eleven months to come out, all right, all right,

(31:32):
all right, Chris, My best bet Brewers at the Pirates
under nine runs total runs between both teams also Reds
and Cubs. I got under ten and a half. I
think that's a good one right there, to ten and
a half Reds Cubs. Okay, I know it's in Chicago
and the Raids at the Blue Jays under nine and

(31:53):
a half. So then you go, best bet Brewers at
Pirates run total under nine and then I have the
under in the Reds Cubs game and the Raised Blue Jays.
Remember I'm not telling you who the bet on. I'm
just telling you who I bet on. All right, Thank you, Rob,
and uh well we'll stick. You love Shekel City and

(32:14):
you love baseball, so do you love this? Rob? Manfred,
the Commissioner of the MLB, said that in twenty twenty four,
Major League Baseball will likely likely rob to the automated
ball strikes sound system or otherwise known as robot umpires.

(32:42):
So what the work? That the way it would work
is they would have the umpire behind the home plate,
but the call would be made by the automated Why
have the what is the umpire there for? What is
that to give it sign? Call it a strike, call
it ball? We could just having light up, make up,
make it light up. You could, but I think it's

(33:03):
it looked better with a person there. No, they just
can't money that. They just can't. I look, I'm like you,
I'm offered. Obviously, even if they bring in the system,
I like having the umpire behind the plate, so I
like having humans working too. They would still be working,
but they're rob will they just called strikes by the

(33:28):
strike zone? Chris, I just try. I just don't believe
that that has any impact on the quality of the
game or whether or not people gonna watch it, I think,
But is it fair? I just think I just don't.
Nobody I know has ever said, oh my god, I
can't believe I went to that game because the umpires.

(33:51):
Nobody You're talking about the big picture. There's a lot
of things that are wrong in basketball or football don't
impact the bottom line. Say watch no matter what. But
I just watched Aaron Judge and Aaron Boone go off
the other night because Aaron Boone, who's six seven, had
two or three strikes called that were at his ankles,

(34:13):
and that's okay. And he still leaves the league in
home runs with twenty nine and the Yankees still got
fifty six wins. And it's what we're talking. And it's
colorful for the game to have a disagreement. It's colorful.
It's a disagreements and strikes. Just like everybody thinktrike zone

(34:34):
in everybody said the NFL would be corrected with the
instant replay in the booth. They get it wrong all
the time and there's still bad calls. It's just it's
just to me, would you agree with that or not?
I'm just asking. It's gonna ask you the judgments. The
automated strike zone would not be a judgment call. It
would be this is the strike zone. If the ball

(34:56):
is in there, strike, if it's not ball here, doesn't
it doesn't. It just doesn't affect. It wouldn't be a
human being looking at a camera still making a judgment calls.
There are things that need to be fixed, that's not
one of them. I think it's just if you want
to say you don't want to pay the umpires or
whatever you want to do work phase them out because
you don't want to pay their salaries or whatever. I

(35:17):
just think I wouldn't want to do that. I think
it's a mistake. We need umpires, but why don't they
What if in the NFL some un buyers thought or
referee thought you needed eleven yards to get the first down.
We think that's how it should be. No, and look,
it's not like holding or a foul in basketball, though

(35:41):
not wadgment call, because those are judgment calls. The strike
zone is set right, and we've seen it move. You're
like you you're not saying before when we were coming up,
it was like knees to the letters of your jersey.
Now it's gotten a lot lower. But they need to
figure out whatever they want the strike's on to be,

(36:02):
and then the umpires, the human beings need to stick
to it or and I get it, you make mistakes
here and there, but this is literally robbed guys having
a different I'm gonna tell you this, Chris, when when
Johail Tandy's called out and they don't give him the
benefit of the doubt being a great hitter or Trout

(36:22):
in a big situation and they call it and they
don't give him the benefit of the doubt. We'll see
how people react to that thing. I'm telling you. If
it's like, if it's a legitimate strike and they don't
get it, they call, if it's if it's a what
what what? I don't even know what. I'm just saying.
They don't give him like respect because he has a

(36:43):
good eye and it's just off the plane.
