three of a three hour show here on a trash
Talking Tuesday, and at the bottom of this hour, our

(01:02):
man Martin Weiss will join us.

Speaker 3 (01:03):
For trolling or rolling Rob.

Speaker 1 (01:07):
Let's get it started though with Jim Harbaugh and the
LA Chargers now. Harbaugh returned to the NFL, of course,
this season as the first year coach of the Chargers,
and they won their opener twenty two to ten over
the Las Vegas Raiders, and man, they ran all over

(01:31):
the Raiders, who have a good defense, ran for one
hundred and seventy six yards on twenty seven carries.

Speaker 3 (01:39):
That's pretty efficient.

Speaker 1 (01:41):
But justin Herbert, the great strong arm quarterback was seventeen
for twenty six through twenty six passes a right and
through four hundred and forty four yards one touchdown, third
lowest and third lowest output yards wise in his entire

(02:02):
career of about sixty three games. So that was definitely
something that we're gonna talk about and get into. Let
me say what Herbert said though after the game. Herbert
was all smiles. Here's what he said. To have a
guy talking about Harball leading the charge like that, and

(02:23):
the locker room that buys in and follows him. You know,
it's a special day as well for him to get
his first win.

Speaker 3 (02:31):
We'll take as many as we can.

Speaker 4 (02:35):
Your thoughts, rap, I mean, when you win, Chris, of
course you just gotta. You know, Hey, it was great,
everything's cool. I just don't understand, and I understand. I
understand that Harball ran the ball at Michigan they won
the National championship. I get all that in this man's
NFL with a quarterback of Justin Herbert's caliber, I just

(02:58):
can't see it, Like, what is the purpose of having
him if this is what you're going to do to him,
which is to diminish his value. And I'm not saying, Chris,
you can't have a running game and a quarterback or whatever, but.

Speaker 5 (03:13):
This seems like this is his plan.

Speaker 4 (03:15):
The first thing he did got rid of all the
receivers right right, added yeah, and then added the running
backs running the football. I'm not against running the football.
I just don't know how if you're trying to win
big time if it works. Even when he had Colin
Kaepernick with the forty nine, they had success, Chris, they

(03:36):
didn't win a championship.

Speaker 5 (03:37):
I'm not saying that that's the only way, right.

Speaker 4 (03:40):
They got the Super Bowl, they lost to Baltimore and
his brother, and I get all that. And Jim Harbor
had really good success in San Francisco. They want a
lot of games. But if I'm Justin Herbert, I'm not
with it. I'm just not I'm not saying I don't
want to balance attack or whatever, but one hundred and
forty something yards and this is not their old coach

(04:02):
and Brandon Staley Harball is a better coach than him. Okay,
so it ain't even I'm not even putting them in
the same sentence, Chris, but to abandon, like, what do
you need Justin Herbert for? If you just need somebody
to throw the ball occasionally, Chris on third down long?
You know, passing plays that you can't run for a

(04:23):
first down. Essentially, Justin Herbert has all the tools. Two
years ago, me and you look dumbfounded when they had
Justin Herbert ahead of Patrick Mahomes in the preseason. You
remember quarterback pole. That's but that's how much right, that's
how much talent they believe he has and what kind
of quarterback he can be.

Speaker 5 (04:44):
Last year, I've said it, he took.

Speaker 4 (04:48):
A step back last year because you remember, Chris, he
had all the turnovers late in the games.

Speaker 5 (04:53):
I remember what was that Cowboy game?

Speaker 4 (04:55):
He threw a pick late right that cost him the game,
and there were a couple of those moments. That's all
I just go get Gardner Minshew or whatever. Go get
one of those quarterbacks. If that's all you're gonna do
is have somebody hand the ball off to the running
backs and throwing a third down every so often I
don't get it.

Speaker 5 (05:14):
I think Jim Horball is making a mistake here.

Speaker 1 (05:17):
I think what he's trying to do, Rob, and I
agree with a lot of what you said. I mean,
seventeen for twenty six, one hundred and forty four yards
for Justin Herbert. All right, this is a guy in
Herbert who has a rookie Rob averaged two hundred and
eighty nine yards a game passing next year, two ninety
five for his career. Heck, he's two hundred seventy six

(05:39):
yards a game, all right, So you're absolutely right, this
is a guy that can be a prolific passer. However,
we know he hasn't had much success as far as
winning games, and a lot of that both you and
I we put on brand this day.

Speaker 4 (05:56):
No doubt, Chris a game that they could have won,
he saw that where he just uh, you.

Speaker 5 (06:02):
Know, put the teaboard on situations.

Speaker 1 (06:06):
Absolutely, But the fact is that in his previous four seasons,
Herbert's made the playoffs once and lost that game. And
so I think Herbert right now just wants to win,
just wants to win something. And so that's why I

(06:27):
think right now, Rob, he is willing to go along
with it now because he's winning now. I will say this,
when you have the ability.

Speaker 3 (06:39):
I've used this illustration with Patrick Mahomes.

Speaker 1 (06:44):
If I'm an NBA player, rob and I can average
twenty five points a game and win, I don't want
to average fifteen because I can win average twenty five.
I want to play to my highest potential. Patrick Mahomes
won the Super BOWLS year but said it wasn't that fun.
Not the Super Bowl game itself for winning it, but

(07:06):
just the season where we know he had probably his
worst season as an NFL player, right, and he wants
to get back to being able to throw long, to
being able to put up huge numbers. And I ain't
mad at him in the least. In fact, I want
to see him do it.

Speaker 3 (07:21):
I want to see Herbert do it.

Speaker 1 (07:23):
You want to see the players with star potential play
to their maximum ability.

Speaker 4 (07:29):
And that's what I'm saying. You're dummying down justin Herbert
for no reason, Chris.

Speaker 1 (07:34):
Well, I don't know that it's no reason, though, but
I'm just what I would say is I think he's
trying to set a culture where we do run the football.

Speaker 3 (07:45):
And I think as time goes.

Speaker 1 (07:47):
On, particularly in the future like coming years and seasons.
But I even think progressively this season you will see
more and more passing from Herbert and opening things up.

Speaker 5 (08:01):
This is my opinion.

Speaker 1 (08:02):
I could be wrong, but I just think they want
to set a tone, change the culture. We're a tough,
hard nosed team. We're gonna play hard nose football. We're
gonna be able to beat you up physically. And then
once they establish that, then New start throwing the ball more.

Speaker 5 (08:17):
That's what I think they're trying to do.

Speaker 4 (08:19):
Yeah, I'm not convinced that that's the game plan. He
wants the football, Chris, That's how I want you know
what I mean, that's his thing. They wanted Michigan at Michigan,
and I get it. Something works for you. You're like,
that's what I want to do. I'm gonna run the
football and a change and change the way things are done.
It's just that JJ McCarthy right at Michigan. Yep, he

(08:42):
won justin Herber. Okay, that's what he won, justin Herbert.
And if he was we wouldn't have known it exactly.
Do you see what I'm saying Like this, No, I
get it. There are quarterbacks you have Chris, where I
understand why you're.

Speaker 5 (08:55):
Not throwing the ball a lot. I do.

Speaker 1 (08:57):
I get that, But that's why I'm saying, it's got
to be to set a culture. It can't be or
you're just gonna end up trading Justin Herbert and you
could get a ton for it. But I think he's
a quarterback you want to keep. But you go there,
you see they have it won. So we need to

(09:18):
change the culture. We need to change things. But Rob,
if he's planning on doing this all season long, then
I think that I agree with you.

Speaker 5 (09:29):
It's a mistake.

Speaker 1 (09:29):
But I do think like Herbert's not gonna be throwing
it like he did in the past.

Speaker 4 (09:33):
No, no, no, that's obvious, right, I agree with that,
and it'll just be interesting.

Speaker 5 (09:38):
It's okay, Chris.

Speaker 4 (09:40):
When you win, yeah, and you beat the Raiders and
Herbert has one hundred and forty four yards, right, But
if they lose and they can't get much going, then
then it'll the narrative will change and then people will
start saying, what are you doing with Justin Herbert? How
come he's not throwing the football? It doesn't make any
sense to me, that's all. It's easy, like I say,
when you win, Chris, winning covers everything. It's the makeups, deodorant. Absolutely,

(10:09):
you win. Hard to argue with anybody on that day, right.

Speaker 3 (10:16):
But I just think, though, Rob, that they can win.

Speaker 1 (10:21):
And I was torn between them and the Dolphins for
my last playoff spot in the AFC. So they might
make the playoffs. There's no question about it. They got
a good chance to make the playoffs.

Speaker 3 (10:34):
You won't win a super Bowl.

Speaker 1 (10:37):
I don't believe in today's NFL you won't win a
super Bowl. Throwing it so sparingly. Now, you can make
the playoffs. You can be good.

Speaker 3 (10:48):
But I don't think Rob, you can win a super.

Speaker 4 (10:50):
Bowl throw the football, not with the other quarterbacks that
you're gonna play against.

Speaker 5 (10:55):
I just don't. It's not in the AFC. You don't
get to a super Bowl, Chris.

Speaker 4 (11:00):
Everything is going to be a process to march down
the field, eat the clock to try to score, and
they're throwing a pass down field or whatever and scoring
in ten seconds.

Speaker 5 (11:11):
I'm just saying, like, like, one.

Speaker 1 (11:15):
Thing they do have going for them is that they
can throw the football.

Speaker 3 (11:21):
Like you.

Speaker 1 (11:22):
It's not a situation where you have a quarterback that
can't throw so We're just gonna be running. That's all
we're gonna do. It's a situation where you have a
guy that can throw the football and you're choosing to run.
And that's different because the defense has to stay honest
and always be aware of you throwing the football. What

(11:42):
I would see, and I told you what I envisioned,
what I think the vision has to be. But I
just think over time, Rob, they'll add better receivers. I
mean they got you know they got they.

Speaker 5 (11:54):
Did, right.

Speaker 1 (11:55):
I mean Mike Williams, though was always heard he's now
with the Jets and was hurt last night. Yeah, Keenan Moore,
Keenan Allen's getting a little bit older, So you know.

Speaker 3 (12:05):
I get it.

Speaker 1 (12:05):
You got Lab McConkie and Quinton Johnson, some of these guys.

Speaker 5 (12:09):
Fil McConkie, fil mccakie with the Giants.

Speaker 1 (12:14):
Yeah, I have no idea, but you know that's what
I think they gotta do. Because I agree with you
in that I don't think you'll win the Ultimate Prize.
Now we've even talked about Baltimore. Obviously last year they
should have ran more against uh Kansas City, but you
still they still threw the football. I mean they threw

(12:34):
it too much. But they they're going to throw the football.

Speaker 5 (12:37):
They're not just gonna run.

Speaker 1 (12:38):
And they encount on Lamar to just get one hundred
and forty four yards unless they got a running quarterback.
That's a difference too. So all right, eight seven, seven
ninety nine Fox. Good start for Jim Harball one and
zero in his return to the NFL. But can they
win big running the football like this? And are they mishandling?

(13:00):
Justin Herbert your thoughts next, Chris A. Rodeakable eight seven,
seven ninety nine on Fix.

Speaker 2 (13:06):

Speaker 3 (13:51):
All right, it is the Eye couple, Chris and Rob.

Jim Harbass doing it on the ground. It won't even
national Championship at Michigan. Can it win him a Super
Bowl in the NFL?

Speaker 5 (14:35):
Your thoughts?

Speaker 4 (14:36):
All right, Larry and Florida. You're on the odd couple
Fox Sports Radio. What you got Larry?

Speaker 7 (14:41):
Hey, guys, Hey, Rob, I know you're as old as
I am. And we remember Don Dula with Miami first
with Balkimore. Now a run run run had thousand yard
guys in the year. But as soon as you shut
damn Marino Jaice everything the guys five thousand yards nineteen eight.
So you know her turnaround, young Harbor.

Speaker 4 (15:05):
We got sorry, Larry Man up and down, Sorry about that.

Speaker 5 (15:10):
Jeff in Virginia, you're on the odd couple of Fox
Sports Radio. What's up, Jeff?

Speaker 8 (15:15):
Hey guys, Hey, look, I love what hardball's doing.

Speaker 9 (15:19):
I've just been confused with the discussion over the running
backs the last four or five years.

Speaker 8 (15:24):
We're all of a sudden there workless. And if you
look at that San Francisco game, if you look at
several of the games this weekend and even last year playoffs,
we all running plays are key to extending drives.

Speaker 5 (15:39):
Nobody's seen that you shouldn't run the ball.

Speaker 4 (15:41):
Hey, Jeff, Chris and I, Chris and I up and
down this radio show, Chris talked about when they wouldn't
pay running backs, how important running backs are.

Speaker 5 (15:52):
Running backs are part of all right.

Speaker 4 (15:55):
But I'm just saying, then then go dummy down, get
rid of Justin Herbert, and go get.

Speaker 8 (16:00):
And that's where I disagree Robert.

Speaker 9 (16:02):
I don't think he's dumbing down. I think, for example,
when the Dallas Cowboys had Tony Dorson and then a Smith,
they ran the ball, but the quarterbacks threw the ball.
I think he's looking for the balance attack. And if
I'm playing Kansas City, if I'm saying, okay, I gotta
face Kansas City, Buffalo or Cincinnati, I do not want

(16:25):
the ball in those quarterbacks' hands. So I'm gonna run
that cock down. He Guess what, Rob, real quick? If
they if I score and then they go to score
in three seconds like you said, fifteen seconds, guess what,
I'm gonna wear that defense out because they're gonna be
on the field, go ahead, score in a minute, and

(16:46):
then I'm gonna wear your defense out.

Speaker 4 (16:48):
All right, Well, hit me back, Jeff, Hit me back, Jeff.
When the Chargers are aren't winning, when they're just running
the football, that's all. Hey, we got George in Southern California.
You're in the eye couple Fox Sports Radio. What's up, George?

Speaker 10 (17:04):
What up?

Speaker 1 (17:04):
Rob?

Speaker 10 (17:05):
And Chris Brusar. It's your boy, George Reister in the building.

Speaker 5 (17:10):
Oh why up? Man? I know Chris didn't even recognize
your voice. I came to hear from you.

Speaker 10 (17:17):
I came to trash talk Chris Brusar and.

Speaker 3 (17:20):
On his way out the door, man, you missed the segment.

Speaker 5 (17:24):
Man, that was last night look at that. That's all good.

Speaker 10 (17:26):
Hey, I'm trash talking you forgiving yourself for two weeks
farewell off the radio man and and also Chris Man,
I wanted to wish you well and say thank you
and congratulations on everything and everything that's coming up for you,
because you have been a tremendous help to me and

(17:49):
my career, giving me opportunities on the I Couple, and
you too, Rob, and so I just appreciate you, and
I just wanted to show you some love on the
way out, but also laughed as because you gave yourself
a two weeks farwell.

Speaker 1 (18:06):
No, George, you know you my man, you my brother.
I love you, man. I appreciate you calling up. And
I'm gonna blame Scott and Don Rob for this two
week farewell tour because they set the dates for us,
so we thought it.

Speaker 4 (18:21):
Would have been Monday, right Rob, g I think we
were thinking about it, but it all worked out.

Speaker 5 (18:26):
Chris is all good.

Speaker 10 (18:28):
He wanted to give everybody time to like get their
rocking chairs and their and their closing microphones and and
and and everything like like that until Rob on the
on the way out gives him that Kevin Gardner they
don't love you like that.

Speaker 5 (18:44):
That's right, No doubt.

Speaker 1 (18:46):
You thought you was Kobe the Hey, George, I'm gonna
text you my address after the show for you to
send your gift to me.

Speaker 5 (18:57):
There you go, a parting gift. Thank you, part.

Speaker 10 (19:02):
Appreciated guys, and thanks for everything.

Speaker 5 (19:06):
Man, Thanks George.

Speaker 7 (19:08):
All right.

Speaker 4 (19:09):
Scott in North Carolina, you're on the eyd Couple of
Fox Sports Radio. Good Scott, I'm doing good man, Chris Man,
good listen to you on the radio.

Speaker 10 (19:21):
Man decided that you moving on. You've got you give
it to Nick right man every day.

Speaker 5 (19:27):
Yes, of course, of course, Thank you man and Rob.

Speaker 10 (19:31):
You know I'm gonna still keep it tuning with you know,
funny guys.

Speaker 5 (19:35):
That man do not turn that dial.

Speaker 4 (19:37):
Come Monday at seven pm Eastern, we'll just be the same,
the same coop will be here, everybody except Chris and uh.
We'll keep it rolling. The Odd Couple's not going anywhere,
so make sure you do that. Scott, appreciate it. We
got one more, Chris. We're gonna try to squeeze in.
I think uh one in Florida, you're on the Odd

(19:58):
Couple of Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 10 (19:59):
What up on?

Speaker 5 (20:01):
How you doing doing great?

Speaker 3 (20:03):
How are you good?

Speaker 11 (20:05):
I'm doing real good right now?

Speaker 5 (20:07):
What you got?

Speaker 11 (20:09):
I just I don't understand how the Chargers have You know,
I've justin herb brought my fantasy team and you know
that doesn't mean anything, but that's a consensus.

Speaker 5 (20:21):
You you in trouble. I'm you need to get rid of.

Speaker 11 (20:25):
I mean, you're not wrong. It's a dynasty league, so
you know we got years built on it. Jordan loves
so that's not helping me either. But but I don't
understand how you could lock up a top five quarterback
knowing how hard it is to do that in the NFL,
and not use him how he's supposed to be used.

(20:46):
You know, you got JK. Dobbins just told his achilles
or his a c O or both of them. I
don't know.

Speaker 5 (20:52):
But yeah, uh it's questionable. It really is.

Speaker 4 (20:57):
And we'll see. Maybe Chris is right and Jim Hall
well thanks for the car Wan. Will Chris evolve and
change right as time?

Speaker 3 (21:04):
I just don't see how you couldn't, you know what
I mean?

Speaker 1 (21:07):
Like again, I get if you want to be a
running team, you want to set a culture, you want
to win in the trenches. That's all good, but you
have a quarterback who can throw it, you know, sling it,
and so you do have to use him. And I
just think I think hardball is smart enough to recognize that.

Speaker 5 (21:26):
That's basically what I'm saying.

Speaker 3 (21:29):
All Right, Trolling and rolling with Martin Weis is on
the way, But first.

Speaker 2 (21:34):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Odd Couple
with Chris Brussard and Rob Parker weekdays at seven pm
Eastern four pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the
iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 3 (21:48):
Tom Brady, He's.

Speaker 1 (21:50):
Done, Aaron Rodgers did not have a Pro Bowl season.

Speaker 5 (21:54):
Trying to kiss me.

Speaker 2 (21:56):
It's trolling or rolling.

Speaker 4 (21:58):
And Chris, we want to say this, Hey, Martin, we
want to say this tonight is the last trolling a
rolling Chris Bussard, Yes, Martin, I will miss you brother.

Speaker 10 (22:10):
Yeah, man, it's been It's crazy because it's been so long.
Yet the intro still resonates Tom Brady done as a player,
Aaron Rodgers not a pro bowler.

Speaker 4 (22:25):
Well, Chris, not just not just you, but y'all getting
rid of the segment.

Speaker 1 (22:29):
Yes, total when I get some changes. I got some
new segments for the new I Company.

Speaker 5 (22:34):
Yes, we're going to do a couple changes.

Speaker 10 (22:37):
Yeah, Rob g was kind enough to it for me.
I'll be a part of them. So I that's fired.
You know last week left it in suspense.

Speaker 5 (22:47):
I hear you, I hear you.

Speaker 10 (22:50):
This is trolling and rolling. It is the Eye couple.
And for the last time I was playing for you.
If Christmas sign and Rob Parker like the story that
I read, you hit the roles. They see me, and
if they don't, they'll troll it.

Speaker 3 (23:06):
Oh many, Hey, hey, the.

Speaker 10 (23:10):
Man he cast is back. So we got the somewhat
unfiltered thoughts of Peyton and Eli. Last night, Brandon I
dropped a touchdown and Peyton Manning tore into him like
he felt maybe that you wasted all his time this
summer as well, but he said, get in camp and
catch the ball. Chris trolling a rolling Peyton Manning taking

(23:30):
a shot at Brandon a youth.

Speaker 3 (23:34):
I'm rolling with it.

Speaker 10 (23:35):
They see me.

Speaker 3 (23:37):
I got no.

Speaker 1 (23:39):
The most important thing for him was to get his money,
So I have no problem with that. If that's what
it took to get the money, fine, But Peyton Manning
can say what he wants to say. That's what we
want from our broadcasters. Don't be afraid to say speak
your mind. And a former quarterback certainly is going to
be like, hey, we you you sat out the whole

(24:00):
training camp and now you're not ready for Game one.
So that's what probably a lot of people were feeling like, So, yeah,
I'm fine with man, he's saying that I'm trolling it.

Speaker 3 (24:10):
Oh man, you didn't have to sit it out.

Speaker 4 (24:12):
They gave him his money. He didn't have to fight
for every nickel and dime. And what if people said
that about his brother when he didn't want to go
to the Chargers originally, you know, like, hey, just suck
it up, just go to the team that's gonna draft
you and stop all that. And uh, you know, Peyton
can pick out on I who goal he wants? Pick
on I who goal he wants. I don't think that

(24:35):
that's necessary. People drop balls all the time in football.
It ain't got nothing to do with that contract.

Speaker 10 (24:43):
Land On, A couple of Fox Sports Radio, Brayln Edward,
Denard Robinson, and other Michigan Wolverine football players are suing
both the NCAA and the Big Ten Network, claiming they
lost over fifty dollars during their college careers because didn't exist,
Chris trolling or rolling the Wolverines potentially winning the lawsuit.

Speaker 1 (25:07):
Trolling, Oh man, I don't mind them trying it. Maybe
they'll get a settlement or something.

Speaker 5 (25:15):
I see.

Speaker 1 (25:16):
I don't see any way they can win this because
that would mean that every other athlete that played before
nil would be suing the NCAA to get money, and
so I don't see how they can win it. But
if maybe they can get a settlement or something, some
money somehow, I'm fine with them doing it, but I

(25:37):
can't see him winning.

Speaker 5 (25:38):
I'm rolling with it.

Speaker 3 (25:40):
They see me rolling.

Speaker 4 (25:42):
You hit it right on the head. It's about a settlement,
you know what I mean. Like you try to you
just throw it out there. You don't know what might stick,
or somebody might come up with something. And then they say, well,
we don't really want to open this can of words.
We'll just settle with these guys or something, and this
way we don't have to expose ourselves right to other
lawsuits or something by making a settlement agreement.

Speaker 5 (26:05):
So I'm not mad at them for trying either.

Speaker 10 (26:09):
Rolling a couple of Fox Sports Radio, we saw some
new faces in different places with running backs making their debut,
but John Harbaugh said makes it sound like we were
expecting too much, like we were wrong, because he said
that the Ravens didn't sign Derrick Henry to quote, be's
a guy who gets the ball thirty times, Chris trolling

(26:31):
or rolling, not seeding King Henry.

Speaker 5 (26:35):
I'm trolling that.

Speaker 1 (26:36):
Oh man, Hey, hey, gotta feed King Henry. And look,
Lamar Jackson, we're gonna talk about it.

Speaker 3 (26:45):
He's sore.

Speaker 1 (26:46):
He didn't even practice yesterday because he's trying to run
over people the way.

Speaker 3 (26:49):
Dereck Henry should have been running over people.

Speaker 1 (26:52):
And Henry has always been the type of guy to
get better as the game goes on, to get better
the more he carries the football. So if you just
want to give it to him twelve to fifteen times
a game, that's not gonna work. I mean, he's not
gonna be at his best. Give him the ball control
the time of possession. You got a great defense that

(27:14):
can stop the offense, and you you got other weapons
obviously with Lamar Jackson and some of those receivers. So
I do think maybe go more to a ball control
offense with Henry running it a lot. Also, you can
run two tight ends because Isaiah Likely and Mark Andrews
are both good and of course always a wild card

(27:36):
with for the defense with Lamar Jackson. So yeah, I
think they gotta feed King Henry a little more.

Speaker 5 (27:43):
What'd you do? You trolled it, trolled it. I'm rolling
with it.

Speaker 10 (27:46):
They see.

Speaker 3 (27:49):
You're not.

Speaker 4 (27:50):
I understand twelve carries isn't good enough, don't get me wrong,
but but it's not thirty carries. You gotta figure out. Yeah,
I'm just saying that's not. Get what he's saying is not.
That's not You're not gonna change his team wins seventy
five percent of his games. You got a quarterback whose
the two times almost unanimous MVP because of what he

(28:10):
brings to the table. So you got to figure out
what's gonna work to not totally neutralize, uh, you know Lamar.
You don't want to neutralize Lamar where he's not running
at all or not a threat to run, because you're
always handing in the ball to Derek Henry. So I
do understand this is not as easy as people make
it out to be.

Speaker 10 (28:31):
Well, I'll tell you this, I'm rolling with the eye couple.

Speaker 3 (28:36):
They see me rolling.

Speaker 10 (28:38):
I appreciate the both of you very much. Ron Parker,
you already know you're not going anywhere, so I'll leave
you for a later time. But Chris, I do appreciate you,
especially this summer. Man, I got a ton of runs
filling in on the Eye Couple, filling in with you,
to the point where people were texting me talking about, Man,
you beating up Chris. He's sorry on YouTube please no,

(29:04):
But in all seriousness, I appreciate this without I don't
know if whenever we started this segment all those years ago,
if christ you're sorry doesn't give the thumbs up, I
don't know if Martin and DJ exists in the way
it does today. So well off seriousness, I appreciate it.
Thank you very much.

Speaker 3 (29:20):
Man, I appreciate you.

Speaker 1 (29:22):
I will miss you, will be in touch obviously, But
keep up the great work man. You you got a
bright future and you have a bright future individually, and
so does diet Odd.

Speaker 5 (29:35):
Couple with you and Vijay y'all. Keep up that good word.

Speaker 10 (29:41):
Man.

Speaker 1 (29:41):
You know I'm messing with you, but yeah, man, you've
done great work for us and I'm gonna be listening
so I'll be hearing you on the on the show.
But keep doing your thing. Man, I appreciate the kind
of words.

Speaker 10 (29:53):
No doubt. Ain't Rob checked this out. I did so
much radio with Chris this summer that my entire demo tape,
my demo real is me and Chris. So if I
don't get his job, I got him to blame.

Speaker 4 (30:06):
Since sir, that's been like, who's that guy you're on with?

Speaker 10 (30:10):
That's all right, right, he's too loud.

Speaker 3 (30:16):
I got I got two words. Uh, let me see,
how should I say? I got one word? Three words
for you, Martin?

Speaker 10 (30:24):
Uh?

Speaker 3 (30:26):
Two words?

Speaker 1 (30:27):
Texas football, Texas football.

Speaker 3 (30:34):
What happened?

Speaker 5 (30:35):
Man?

Speaker 10 (30:36):
Hey, that's cold bloody right that.

Speaker 3 (30:38):
That's a mic drop right there.

Speaker 10 (30:41):
Look, I'll tell you what what happened. Jim Harbor ran
to turn tail. He didn't want to stick each other,
be a legend. He could have been a legend, getting
multiple ring.

Speaker 5 (30:49):
But but the things could have been suspended. That's right.

Speaker 3 (30:51):
The thing on notible years.

Speaker 4 (30:53):
One thing I don't understand is Chris is riding Michigan
and he's giving more money to Michigan than Martin.

Speaker 5 (30:59):
Has he a right about that?

Speaker 1 (31:01):
When Martin and my daughter, I talked with my daughter
this weekend about her her Wolverine.

Speaker 3 (31:06):
So yeah, I.

Speaker 5 (31:08):
Agree with that.

Speaker 12 (31:09):
Rob.

Speaker 10 (31:10):
My dad would say that means Chris a bigger fan
than me.

Speaker 5 (31:14):
That's right.

Speaker 12 (31:16):
Chris was totally invested, all right, Martin, great stuff is
always brother, Yes, yes, hey, Chris, real quick?

Speaker 4 (31:27):
How much did I pay a semester to go to
Southern Connecticut State University back in the late mid to
late eighties? How much a semester?

Speaker 3 (31:36):
Four hundred and fifty dollars? Chris?

Speaker 5 (31:39):
Eight hundred dollars?

Speaker 3 (31:40):
Wow?

Speaker 5 (31:41):
Eight hundred. Do you hear what I say? Chris? That's crazy?

Speaker 4 (31:44):
Eight hundred of semester. And people who were in state,
because I'm you know, being from New York, I paid
the high outer state. If you were in state in Connecticut,
you paid five hundred to semester, Chris, five hundred.

Speaker 5 (31:58):
Four thousand a year.

Speaker 3 (32:01):
All right?

Speaker 1 (32:02):
All right, Well, a couple more couple coming your way,
Lamar Jackson sore from game one.

Speaker 3 (32:10):
We'll get it at next a couple. Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (32:13):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Odd Couple
with Chris Brusar and Rob Parker weekdays at seven pm
Eastern four pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the
iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 3 (32:24):
All right, it's the odd couple.

Speaker 1 (32:26):

help you get there. They've got an unmatched selection, fast
free shipping, free road, has a protection and more than
ten thousand recommend to installers.

Speaker 5 (32:43):
Tire rag dot com is.

Speaker 1 (32:44):
The way tire buying should be. All right, rober Let's
in here. We of course, talked about the Ravens twenty
to twenty seven to twenty loss to Kansas City last.

Speaker 3 (32:58):
Thursday on opening night for the Sea.

Speaker 1 (33:01):
Lamar Jackson played well and made some big mistakes, but
he ran the ball sixteen times rob for one hundred
and twenty two yards and now has did not practice Monday,
which was kind of a voluntary day, and also did

(33:21):
not practice today. Looks like he'll return tomorrow, but the
reason was he's sore from that game. Now, nothing you know,
alarming where he's not gonna be able to play or anything.
But I think Rob, this could be a blessing in
disguise because the way Lamar Jackson was running. I want
him running the football, but I don't want him taking

(33:42):
on defenders the way he was. I want him joking guys, move,
you know, moving away from guys, sliding, running out of bounds,
but he was running into guys, welcoming, initiating contact, and
that's not sustainable for any quarterback.

Speaker 5 (34:04):
Really.

Speaker 1 (34:04):
We saw Cam Newton as biggest and powerful as he was,
his body eventually broke down and he was much bigger
than Lamar, and so I think that this soreness.

Speaker 3 (34:16):
I don't understand how they couldn't already be telling.

Speaker 5 (34:19):
Lamar, look, you can't be doing that. You can't be
trying to run over guys.

Speaker 1 (34:24):
But if he or their coaching staff didn't understand that
he was gonna have to change that, then I think
now is a blessing in disguise, and that they will
be like, look, we want you to run because he
did major damage, but just be smarter about it. We
know you want to beat the Chiefs, but you gotta

(34:45):
start slide and running out of bounds and stuff like that.
So this can be a blessing, and I think it
could lead them to go more to Dereck Henry as well,
which we kind of talked about last segment. So I
think this could be a blessing in disguise for the Ravens.

Speaker 5 (35:00):
Rot.

Speaker 4 (35:01):
Yeah, I think that maybe it's a little lover zealous.
I thought the same thing. You don't want to initiate contact, right,
just be smart about it, not trying to get hurt.
And you got a long season ago, and you're lost
in Kansas City and you almost tied the game with
no time left on the You know, you don't have
to cry about it, you know what I mean, Like
there was a game you could have won or losing

(35:25):
is not the end of the world either.

Speaker 5 (35:27):
The way that they came back, so you could feel
good about it and just be smart.

Speaker 4 (35:31):
Thank god you got out of there not hurt and
moving forward, Chris, just be smart.

Speaker 5 (35:36):
Out there people.

Speaker 4 (35:38):
When you get the first down and contacts coming, Chris,
you step out of bounds, you go down. I mean,
let's be smart, that's all. You don't want to initiate contact,
You never do. I don't think that that's unless the
game is on the line and I need one yard
I need I don't want a guy turn it up short, Chris,
You know what.

Speaker 5 (35:56):
I mean when you need one yard trying to win
a game, trying to win the game. But exactly that's
my only difference.

Speaker 1 (36:05):
Yeah, and look, my guess is that, I mean, Lamar
clearly wanted this game against the Chiefs. He was hearing
all week and maybe even all off season that he
was one in four against Kansas City. Now, of course
he's won and five against them.

Speaker 5 (36:23):
And so he was trying.

Speaker 1 (36:24):
He was emotional, he was full of adrenaline, and for
the most part, he played a really good game. But
my guess is that he understands he won't be He's
not gonna be doing that against other opponents. And again,
if he was playing too, I think now he'll realize
he shouldn't. But he looked good running the ball, rob

(36:45):
like he did look faster. I thought he had lost
the weight so that he could run and be faster,
and he did do that. And so as long as
he's sliding and not taking these major shots, not initiating
the content, I think it's gonna be big and good
for the Ravens for him to do that.

Speaker 4 (37:05):
Yeah, I agree, I'm expecting big things. We both are.
Out of the Ravens. I still I like the team.
I like the Derrick Henry pick up Chris. They get
to their game plan and do what they're supposed to do.
I'm I'm I'm with it.

Speaker 1 (37:20):
Yeah, they do need to figure out how to maximize
both Lamar and.

Speaker 5 (37:25):
Yeah, and that takes time.

Speaker 4 (37:27):
I mean, you could, you know, go through training camp, Chris,
some preseason games. It's it's a feel for it, and
you gotta make sure you're not taking too much away
from Lamar, but you're not also diminishing what it is
that Derrick Henry does, right, and that's that's where coaching
comes in, right.

Speaker 5 (37:46):
Yep, yep, Now you're right.

Speaker 1 (37:48):
I mean you have the tools and it's up to
you to put it together and make it work, you know,
for your team.

Speaker 3 (37:55):
So it's gonna be interesting.

Speaker 1 (37:57):
But the Ravens rob it's it's they got a nice look.
They played the Raiders next. Obviously you think they should
win that game. They're like nine and a half point favorites.

Speaker 5 (38:06):
I mean, yeah, but the Ravens.

Speaker 1 (38:07):
The Raiders play hard and they're tough defensively, so they
should win it.

Speaker 5 (38:12):
But you know it's gonna be a tough game.

Speaker 1 (38:13):
Then they got Dallas, Buffalo and Cincinnati, Like, man, I mean,
they that's tough. That's a And then not to mention
you're you're already of course, if you get through that.

Speaker 4 (38:26):
Yeah, but if you get through that, Chris, you're probably
gonna be in a good position and rolling as the
season end, because that's that's got to be the toughest
part of your schedule right there.

Speaker 1 (38:36):
Well, they got let's see Philadelph. Yeah, that's probably the
toughest if you want to.

Speaker 5 (38:42):
Say, I'm just saying stretch. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (38:45):
Yeah, but it's look ANFC North is tough.

Speaker 5 (38:49):
Last year.

Speaker 4 (38:49):
You know you're gonna have last year. They went to
San Francisco on Christmas.

Speaker 5 (38:53):
You know, like like you're.

Speaker 4 (38:54):
Gonna play good teams, good, right, if you're a good team, Chris,
That's that's what it is.

Speaker 5 (38:58):
Got a tough schedule, yep.

Speaker 1 (39:00):
So all right, a couple rob what day number four
is down three to go four, down three to go Alright,
Well look, don't you change that, doll. Jason Smith and
Mike Harmon are next here on Fox Sports Radio, so
you keep it locked.

Speaker 3 (39:20):
Fire is on the way.
