Speaker 2 (00:24):
Let's get this, punies, you're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:32):
Yes, it is The Odd Couple. I'm Chris he Sean.
We're live from the tirereg dot com studios. Tireck dot
com will help you get there. They've got an unmatched selection, fast,
free shipping, free road hazard protection, and more than ten
thousand recommend it installers. Tirereg dot com is the way
tirebine should be. We got Mark Stein, one of the

(00:53):
best in the business at covering the NBA, joining us
at the bottom of the hour, and what a time
for him to join is as free agency is really
heating up. We got a big trade too with the
New Orleans Pelicans. So we'll get into all of that
with Mark Stein in about thirty minutes. But first let's
go to the NFL. Your specialty. I mean, you obviously
know all the sports, but you played quarterback in the NFL.

(01:16):
As you said earlier, you still work with some quarterbacks,
and so Tua tongue of viola and I probably I
still always struggle with his name, but very nice season
he had with the Miami Dolphins his fourth year. He
was healthy all year, and he's looking to get paid,

(01:37):
and the reports are that the Dolphins do not want
to pay him market value, which is around fifty three
to fifty five million. Jared Goff got fifty three million. Recently,
Trevor Lawrence, who hasn't done as much as Tua, got
fifty five million. And I don't know what the Dolphins

(01:58):
are offering, but let's say it's between forty five and
fifty but it's below market value. So what are your
thoughts on this? I have said Chawan, I'm on the record,
if I were the Dolphins, I would not be ready
to give to a huge contract because he's only been
healthy for one out of his four seasons. And while

(02:21):
he has put up numbers, he has been bad against
winning teams.

Speaker 3 (02:26):
This year.

Speaker 1 (02:26):
Past year was one in six against playoff teams, and
his numbers were not good as great as they were
against the Tomato Cans that's how bad they were against
the playoff teams. And then he struggles in cold weather,
and I mean just chili. I don't mean freezing. I
mean a brisk breeze, and brother struggling forty five degrees

(02:47):
and below, he's zero and six. So I got questions,
and so I want to see him get it done
this year. I'm not saying we have to win the
super Bowl, but I want to see him play well
against the playoff teams and play well in cold weather
before I give him this huge contract. If I'm the Dolphins,

(03:10):
what are your thoughts?

Speaker 3 (03:11):
Here's what's interesting, Chris, and it got him fired.

Speaker 4 (03:14):
But Brian Flores said this what four years ago, Yes,
we can't win a championship with two as our starting quarterback.

Speaker 3 (03:24):
And the organization was all up in arms.

Speaker 4 (03:26):
They couldn't believe that their head coach didn't have the
back of the quarterback that they selected. But he told
them this years ago. Now what's interesting is this is
the first team to buck the trend because what's happened
in the NFL is they stopped playing the player and
started paying the position when it came to quarterback. So
whoever the next quarterback was up, he got slightly more

(03:48):
than the guy in front of him. You can't tell
me that Trevor Lawrence is better than Justin Herbert or
Joe Burrow or Lamar Jackson. But the sequencing said his
agent had to get a win. So whether it was
guaranteed money, a youarly average, or total amount of conversation
that had to be in the ballpark. The Dolphins are saying, hey, man,
hell with that tool is not those guys. He doesn't

(04:11):
have that kind of transcendent talent. We don't think we
can win games in spite of not surrounding him with
a great, you know, group of support and players. And
because of that, we got to say some cap space.
So I want to see if this is gonna become
a trend because the complete opposite happened to running back.
Instead of paying the player, they started saying we're not

(04:32):
gonna pay the position, no matter who the running back was.
Now it'll be challenging on guy McCaffrey comes up. Yeah,
but he was before the trend started.

Speaker 1 (04:41):
But I mean he just got extended. Yeah, good money.
So I agree with the Dolphins.

Speaker 4 (04:46):
I'm not gonna be pitching holding to giving that percentage
of my cap to a guy that I don't think
is transcended.

Speaker 1 (04:51):
Okay, so you so you pretty much agree with my
with my take on the tour. So to me, he
has a huge decision to make be because I think
he's got he can do one of two things. He can.
Let's say they're offering in between forty five and fifty.
It might be around forty five, that's what Kirk Cousins got,

(05:11):
But let's say it's somewhere between forty five and fifty
a year. If he look, he can be upset all
he wants, and I get it. You know, in our business,
we have contracts. We negotiate too, all right. So I
get you feeling you should get more money than their offering,
and that's something that you have to deal with one

(05:33):
way or the other. But if they're offering him that
much money, he could take it and then look at
it and say, I'm in that. I have great weapons,
great weapons right both in the backfield and on the
outside the wide receivers. I've got a very good offensive coach.

(05:56):
Coach in general, I think McDaniel's good. I'm in a
great location. It is warm here, and I've got the
security because looking in the mirror, I have been injured
and I am smaller. So you can either say, all right,
look at all those things and take that money that's

(06:17):
below market value, or you can say I'm gonna go out,
stay healthy, which obviously isn't always in your control, but
stay healthy, play great, and kind of bet on myself.
The challenge with that, Sean, is that even if you
could go out and have a phenomenal season, and maybe

(06:39):
if you do play that well, they wouldn't do this,
but they could franchise you. Like, so it's not a
guarantee that even if you win the MVP Award that
they're going to pay you market value. So what do
you think of that? Like, if you're into a shoes,
I gotta be honest, that first option, as angry as

(07:02):
you might be, doesn't look bad.

Speaker 4 (07:05):
Listen, if I was managing tour, I would say, we're
gonna go bias one of those Mercedes sprinter vans, and
we're gonna park it in front of the Dolphins facility
and we're gonna overnight until we sign this deal. You're
not tall, you're not athletic, you don't have a big
time arm. You live in Miami, in the state of
Florida where there's no state tax.

Speaker 2 (07:26):
You have.

Speaker 4 (07:28):
Jadon Waddle and Tyreek Hill as your wide receivers. You
got Devin the chain Raheem Moster at running back. You've
got an offensive minded coach. This cool as a fan,
and is it Mike mc daniel Daniel? Yeah, I mean,
come on, what's the difference? Come on, Chris for a
god is really doesn't have any elite trait. Forty million
a year, man, Look, you won you be it.

Speaker 1 (07:49):
And I don't even think it's that low. I gotta
believe I'm just.

Speaker 4 (07:53):
Throwing that number out there. I mean, come on, man,
who cares what those other guys got? You far surpassed
and superseded your talent level. Like we're not saying like
this is Josh Allen, right, you know, I mean, come on,
tell me what elite trait does two have?

Speaker 3 (08:11):
Yeah, he's sure. He's not athletic. You to have a
big time arm.

Speaker 1 (08:15):
And he's injury prompt I mean may injury pro now
he has been. I don't know if he fully is,
but yes, hopefully going forward he'll stay healthy. But this
is kind of one of those things where you have
to be strong handed with your agent because your agent
has an obligation in the market he's in. It looks
bad on him if these other guys are getting this
deal and he allows.

Speaker 3 (08:35):
You to settle for this one.

Speaker 1 (08:37):
Yeah, and look, I'm.

Speaker 4 (08:38):
Taking the I'm taking what's on the table, just because
I've got to be honest with myself about who and
what I am if i'm too.

Speaker 1 (08:45):
And look, the best quarterback in the league, Patrick Mahomes.
Now his deal is strange because they keep you know,
they can keep changing it, right, But he makes about
forty five million a year. Now, I think he'll end
up getting more, you know what I mean, as they
shift money around and make sure he gets paid. But

(09:07):
he's getting forty five million a year. This I'm looking
at this. Mahomes would earn an average forty five million
per season until twenty thirty one. Now that's when it's
kind of yeah, I mean, so he'll get more. But
I don't know. I think you make a lot of sense.
And I get to a winn in the bag, the

(09:28):
full bag, because this is a bag in itself, that's
for sure. I get where the Dolphins are at. You
and I are in lockstep on that. But he does
what if some bad team is willing to pay him. Yeah,
and then you go to a situation where you don't
have elite receivers, they're expecting you to carry them to

(09:51):
contender status and you fizzle badly.

Speaker 4 (09:55):
And you do it for what maybe the same amount
of money depending on where that team.

Speaker 1 (09:59):
Is, because you're right one of that the taxes.

Speaker 4 (10:02):
You go to one of these states with that eleven, twelve,
thirteen percent state tax, and the money ends up being
what you would have gotten in Miami. This is how
I would play it if I was two, and I
don't think a lot of current athletes look at it
like this. How much money is enough money? I mean,
come on, if you get one hundred and sixty million
on this deal instead of two ten, I mean, come on, man,

(10:22):
in Miami, everything's already paid for. What I would be
trying to do if I was two of I would
be making sure that me and mister Ross were tight,
and I would be whispering, and you know, when I finished,
I'd love to be assistant GM and I'd be already
working on my transition. I'll take some team friendly deals
to be able to stay around the game and be
in a position of power when I finish, like, think

(10:44):
long term, look at the macro approach, not the micro
because he's not that talented Chris. If it wasn't for
McDaniel kind of resurrecting his career and them going out
and getting Tyreek Hill, two of them might even be
a starting quarterback right now.

Speaker 1 (10:58):
I will give him this. He has one like regular
season as.

Speaker 3 (11:05):
Yeah, everybody wanted Bama.

Speaker 1 (11:07):
No, I'm talking about in Miami like when you but right,
I'm not saying he's lit the world on fire twins,
but even when he was his first three years, when
he was getting injured, he still was winning games at
a level they didn't win at when he was injured
or when it was another quarterback in there. And I'm
not saying he's elite. I'm with you on that. That's

(11:27):
why I'd be hesitant to pay him. But I look,
I've told Rob this many times. There was a time
years ago when I was at ESPN and I got
offered more money to go elsewhere, and I did not take.
I stayed at ESPN. I liked the situation I was
in and I was happy. I was you know, everything

(11:49):
was great. Obviously you're getting a lot of Exposure ESPN,
And I was like, why would I go somewhere else
even if it's a little more money if I'm not
enjoy what I'm doing as much as what I'm doing now.
And so I'm with you, you're right. And I remember when
Lebron was going to Miami from Cleveland, and initially he

(12:15):
was willing to take less than the MAX. They ended
up doing a sign and trades, so he got the MAX.
And people around Lebron told me. They said to me, look,
there's nothing you can do. And these were the numbers
at that time. There's nothing you can do with nineteen
million dollars a year that you can't do with sixteen
million dollars, right, and that that is the truth. And

(12:39):
then when you throw in the state tax, you're right. Now,
I don't know what they're offering him, but I can't
imagine it's below forty five million a year.

Speaker 3 (12:47):
And here's the thing.

Speaker 4 (12:48):
If you play it the way that you were saying,
and better on yourself, you're at the mercy of whoever
decides that you're that guy.

Speaker 3 (12:58):
You don't get to pick and choose.

Speaker 4 (13:00):
He's not like Aaron Rodgers who can kind of go
to green bands say, I only want to go to
these two spots, like on the free agent market. I mean,
I don't know how valuable Tool is I think he
would be. I mean, I'm just gonna say this. Sometimes
you gotta be honest with yourself about who and what
you are and know that if you get a forty

(13:22):
plus million of your bag, you overachieve based on the
natural gifts God gave you.

Speaker 1 (13:28):
Well, that is interesting and we tend to agree on this.
But let I want to get back to the Lebron
story in the next segment because it's been a lot
of negative reaction to this drafting of Brownie James.

Speaker 4 (13:46):
Bron to freeze his fingers. How about that? Tell you
what I mean on the other side.

Speaker 1 (13:50):
Yeah, you gotta tell me. I don't know what you mean.

Speaker 1 (14:49):
All right, we're the Eye Couple and we are live
from the tire Rag dot com Studios. Mark Stein, NBA insider,
will not be to join us because he is right
in the throws the thick of NBA free agency, so
he gotta do his thing. I get it. But we'll

(15:10):
talk Briannie during that segment. But first, Rock Perdy. George
Goodle Sean was raving about Rock Perdy recently. He did
an interview with NBC Sports. You know at his tight
end university does every year to camp, and here's what

(15:31):
he said about Perty after watching him during their offseason workouts.
He looks like the guy, which is really nice. He's
in the building every day and is the same guy
every single day, consistent. He's incredibly competitive. It's fun seeing
him yell at guys when they don't hit their route

(15:51):
depth or have the wrong landmark. He's taking control of
the offense and making it his. It's Kyle's and Kyle
is calling the plays, but Brock is getting guys to
do what he wants them to do, which is really
fun to see. I have said, I think brock Perty's
twenty four sean. No matter what you think of Rock Party,

(16:15):
I expect him to get better. And he's already you know,
was fourth in MVP, you know voting last year, led
the league and passer rating, among other things, broke the
passing yards record in the San Francisco forty nine ers franchise,
and that's a heck of a franchise to break it

(16:36):
in with Joe Montana and Steve Young, of course, and
believe it or not, Jeff Garcia had the record. But
what do you think of Rock Party and do you
expect him to improve over what he's already done in
his year and a half as a starter.

Speaker 4 (16:52):
Well, absolutely, he's got more experience now, his confidence should
be an all time high. He should feel like the
man for the first time ever. At this point in
the season two years ago, he was an afterthought, seventh
round draft pick. Nobody expected him to ever be a
start in the National football He get thrust in the action,
performs ad admirably, but he gets hurt in the playoff

(17:13):
game against the Eagles, and what does the organization do.
They go out and get Sam Donald in the off season.
So if you remember last offseason and trade Lance because
he was injured, I don't consider him as big of
a threat as Sam Donald was. You heard a lot
of whispers out of San Francisco camp this time last
year how great Sam Donald was looking, and people wouldn't
be surprised if he ended up playing. Now he comes

(17:35):
in with no whispers. He's the guy like he walks
in the mall in San Francisco. That's the starting quarterback
for our team. So he's feeling himself a little bit.
My advice to him would be a little careful with
the yelling, like, don't get out of character. If that
wasn't you before the success, don't let the success make
that become you.

Speaker 1 (17:56):
Right, you know, And he seems like a guy that
you know, I mean I don't know what we don't
exactly know what Kittle means by that, But he seems
like a guy that's really grounded, don't you know what
I mean? Like I wouldn't see I agree with you completely,
but I don't think he's getting I would be surprised
if he kind of let it get to his head.

Speaker 3 (18:17):
You know.

Speaker 4 (18:18):
Yeah, he does got more fire to him than I
think he's shown. You go back to the Iowa State
days and but they had a heck of a team,
that Breese Haul and that crew.

Speaker 3 (18:25):
It's surprised to win more. You can see like he
got a little something to him.

Speaker 4 (18:30):
No, I just be careful because this is a really
important season for him because he still hadn't gotten paid, right,
So if he goes out and you know, some of
those balls and he throws into traffic end up in
the other team's hands, you know, he's gotten some fortunate
bounces I think, with some bad decisions, and he has
a bad year because the way it was drafted, because

(18:52):
he's not viewed as an elite talent. I mean, the
whole narrative could could kind of change.

Speaker 1 (18:58):
Well where are you at on that? Because like, on
first things first, I always argue with my co host
Nick Wright. He basically seems to believe that it's all
the supporting cast, and I mean, he wouldn't even call
him the supporting cast, but Matt McCaffrey, Debo Kittle and

(19:21):
Iyuk like and then Kyle Shanahan calling the plays, and
so he thinks you could put a lot of mediocre
quarterbacks in that position and they could do what Perdy does.
I disagree with him. Look, he's got great supporting cast,
no doubt, but I think Perdy is actually proven like
what he's done. It's not easy to step in and

(19:41):
do what he's done. Absolutely, so I give him credit,
like where are you at on that?

Speaker 4 (19:45):
I think he's a better athlete than people give him
credit for. But I think here's why it works in
San Francisco. He allows Kyle to be Kyle because he
has an extremely high football IQ, so he can handle
the volume. Kyle wants to operate with all the different
personnel groups, all the different formations, the motions, the checks,

(20:07):
understanding what looks the defense is given. Like so when
him Brian Greasie, former NFL quarterback, was the quarterback coach
and Kyle Shanahan get in that room, they're all speaking
the same language because they all processed the game of
football at a really high level. So it's not like
you're having a dumb things down for an inexperienced guy
like Trey Lance.

Speaker 1 (20:26):
Well where are you at? Quickly? On Trey, because we're
gonna go to break in a moment, But I want
to look. None of us have really seen a lot
of him. But he couldn't do what brod Perty's doing.
There's no question about it. Absolutely no. He didn't have
enough experience. And one thing that worries me about Trey
he stills not getting an experience. He's getting older, he's

(20:46):
getting more tenured, but he's not throwing any balls in
live action, and that's what he needs.

Speaker 3 (20:52):
He needs reps. So Dallas obviously has seen enough.

Speaker 4 (20:57):
From him to have not paid Dak Prescott what he's asking.

Speaker 3 (21:02):
I mean, you can.

Speaker 1 (21:03):
I do think Dallas is looking at it like, if
that can't take us where we want to go this year,
we'll take a shot with yeah. Deal Like same thing
as you know, San Francisco. Let's put a bunch of
talent around him, and our quarterback's not gonna be making
any money and let's see if that will work. So
all right, we will get to Briannie around the corner.

(21:24):
A lot of negative thoughts about the Lakers drafting him. Uh,
that'll be next.

Speaker 2 (21:29):

Yep, I'm seeing you the week before I get married
out in New York. So all right, I'll send you
a couple of dates. Oh, thank you, Sean, I appreciate it.
So we'll see if Chris is actually gonna, you know,
make some.

Speaker 1 (21:54):
Time coming to see the show.

Speaker 6 (21:56):
Right, Yeah, yeah, I'm gonna throw you some dates. I'll
throw you some dates.

Speaker 1 (22:00):
All right, we're live theyd couple from the Tireck dot
Com studios. Let's get to Bronnie or back to Bronnie. Sean,
and I will admit this. When lebron first began, I
guess it was a year or two ago talking about
wanting to play with Bronnie. I was initially skeptical, like

(22:22):
I felt like, I don't know that that's a good thing.

Speaker 3 (22:26):
For bid.

Speaker 1 (22:26):
It's great that they could be in the league at
the same time, but I don't know if they should
be on the same team. And I felt that way
because one, I feel like Bronnie may want to just
feel like he got into the league on his own
merit and not on his dad's coattails. But I've come

(22:48):
to change my tune on that because, and I know it,
I've been covering the NBA for thirty years. Nepotism is
ramp and nepotism played a role, and there's no doubt
it may have been the entire of most of the
most of it, but there's nepotism rampant throughout the NBA.

Speaker 3 (23:05):
All right.

Speaker 1 (23:05):
A decade ago, Jim Buss was running the Lakers. Why
was he qualified? No, his dad on the team, gen
Bus running them now, you know so, And I could
go on and on Jerry West, who just died, the legend.
His son Johnny works for the Golden State Warriors front office.
His son Ryan was in with the Lakers and then

(23:26):
the Pistons. Bill Walton died. We know his son Luke
was a coach. Like, these doors have been opened, and
I'm not saying they're not good because I know the
West kids are good and Luke had his moments, I
guess as a coach. But the door is opened because
of nepotism, because of your father, and lebron has opened

(23:49):
the door for Bronnie and it's up to Bronnie now
to capitalize on it. Secondly, you know, and I've known
kids whose dad was a pro Apple Fleet and it
can be challenging because everybody thinks you're gonna be great
in basketball, you're gonna be great in football, whatever it is,
and you might not be now. Obviously in Bronnie's case,

(24:12):
he is. I mean he might not be great at
the NBA level, but he's a great high school player,
great you know player for the most part. But you
always want as a as a young man, you are
going to want to find your own identity and spread
your wings. And that's why I was like, is he

(24:33):
going to be able to do that playing on the
same team and as his dad, And how will other
guys look at him in the locker room like you
might be taking somebody's spot, somebody's minutes. But I've changed
on those one. As far as the locker room, I mean,
they really look up to Lebron in the Lakers locker room.
So I do think they're gonna embrace Brownie and kind

(24:56):
of everybody's gonna want to be like his big brother
and look out for him. And then as far as
him spreading his wings, my feeling all along and this
has not changed, Sean, is that what's best for Bronnie?

Speaker 2 (25:10):
Now?

Speaker 1 (25:10):
What's best for Lebron? What's best for Bronnie? What does
Bronnie want?

Speaker 3 (25:14):
Now?

Speaker 1 (25:14):
What Lebron wants? What does Bronnie want? And Briannie does?

Speaker 3 (25:19):
Now?

Speaker 1 (25:19):
He could be putting on a good front or a
happy face or whatever you want to call it. But
when I've seen him, he does seem comfortable in his
own skin, and he does seem fine with playing on
the same teams as his dad. And if he is
cool with it, if he legitimately is like this is great,

(25:44):
I'm so glad I'm in the NBA and man, on
top of that, I get to play with my dad.
If he's feeling that way, then I'm all on board
with it. But my main concern is him. I'm not
trying to sound like I'm some you know, great person
looking out just for his interest, but seriously thinking about
the young man. I really want him to be in

(26:07):
a good situation for himself, not only as in a
basketball situation, but mentally. And if he feels good about this,
then I'm fine with it. But a lot of people
are disagree with that. Sewn.

Speaker 4 (26:19):
Let me tip my hat to the dad, salute Lebron James.

Speaker 3 (26:25):
What a heck of a job he's done.

Speaker 4 (26:28):
Raising and developing Bronnie James into an NBA player. I mean,
they look like they got the dopest relationship ever right,
Like there's no friction there, Like they got commercials together.
Like instead of Bronni going on the other side of
the country to Ohio State or Duke somewhere for college,
he stayed right in LA.

Speaker 3 (26:45):
Right under Lebron's shadow.

Speaker 4 (26:47):
So obviously Bronnie doesn't have an issue with being Lebron
james son. He's not trying to distance himself or get
away from that. He embraces it. And I think a
lot of it has to do with the fact bron
doesn't come off like the dad's gonna be at the game,
yelling at the rams or you know, putting too much
pressure on his son. You know, it just seems like
he provided the resources for Brinnie to be as good

(27:13):
as he was capable of being. And it looks like
BRINNI had his own work ethic and it's taking advantage
of those opportunities, and that's why he's here. And I
think he's gonna flourish. I think Bronnie wants to prove
that he is an NBA player, deserves to be in
the NBA, and he's gonna be somebody that contributes and
help somebody win. I think it's a wonderful thing. I
think it's a beautiful story.

Speaker 3 (27:35):
I don't care.

Speaker 4 (27:35):
I don't want to hear anybody tell me that if
it wasn't for lebron then Bronnie wouldn't be in the NBA.
Because the NBA drafts specuatively every year. The number one
pick in the draft, reesea' schet of the Atlanta Hawks,
averaged ten points and three rebounds last year in the
French League. My granted, that's grown men, that's pro basketball,

(27:57):
but I mean that was the first selection, so it's
not like you know everybody that got drafted as a
twenty and eight guy.

Speaker 1 (28:06):
Where are you at on the nepotism.

Speaker 3 (28:09):
I mean, the thing is.

Speaker 4 (28:13):
All the names that you said all were pretty damn
good at their job outside of maybe you know the
bus right.

Speaker 1 (28:20):
Yeah, but I'm saying nepotism isn't about I mean, it
is so many in many businesses. I look, and that's
not because you qualified or not. It's just you know, I.

Speaker 4 (28:33):
Look at I look at nepotism like this, and I'm
not don't want to attack him, but it's just the
first example that popped in my mind. To me, Nathaniel
Hackett has taken it, has taken advantage of nepotism because
he's continually came up short with these opportunities on the
only one. On the other hand, I think Kyle Shanahan

(28:54):
has excelled through nepotism. I think Lane Kiffin has excelled
through nepotism. Like their career arcs are drastically sped up
because of who their dads were, but they've taken advantage
of it and excelled.

Speaker 1 (29:09):
So yeah, I don't think the relationship people talking about
the nepotism, I don't think they're basing it on the
ability of the person because I I mean, some of them,
you're right, I mean the guys I named have done
good jobs for the most part so, but I think
they're just it's just viewed as something that you know

(29:32):
is shouldn't be done in business, but it's rampant throughout
the NFL. Remember Todd Hayley was coaching, was actually a
head coach of the camps.

Speaker 3 (29:44):
Absolutely. I just don't like when people pick and choose.

Speaker 1 (29:47):
Well, that's my thing, Like, that's why I don't want
to hear about it. Now it is a case when
you haven't said anything about it with all the nepotism
that's going on in sports before, right, bring it up now.

Speaker 4 (29:59):
The top three percent positions of the Dallas Cowboys, all
three people have Jones as their last name.

Speaker 1 (30:05):
Thank you.

Speaker 4 (30:05):
So if you're not gonna attack Jerry Jones, don't attack Lebron,
don't attack the Lakers. Like I just hate when people
picking choos. If you're gonna stand up for something, stay
ten toes down, regardless of who the person is, because
the truth don't have emotions, it's just the truth.

Speaker 3 (30:18):
I just hate when people attack people.

Speaker 4 (30:19):
They don't like and then stay quiet and shy away
from attacking somebody that they kind of do like who's
doing the same thing.

Speaker 3 (30:26):
That's not right.

Speaker 1 (30:28):
I totally agree with that. If you didn't say anything
for all these years about nepotism, don't start now for sure.
All right, interesting story. Kyle phillip Kowski, star players at
Cut Yeah, who you know, was viewed as a top
ten pick and fell to the second round, drafted by

(30:49):
the Utah Jazz at the top of the second pick
in the second round. It's an interesting story as to
why he felt. We get into that. Next, it's The
Odd Couple Christian Shawn. Fox Sports Radio.

(31:33):
This is gonna be interesting. Rob G. Kyle Philipkowski, one
of the best players in the country, played at Duke
sixteen points eight boards a game for two years was
viewed as a top ten pick by many, or at
least a lottery pick, and he falls all the way
to the second pick of the second round. Give us
the summary of what happened with Oh, this story is bizarre.

Speaker 7 (31:55):
So it all kind of came to public light on
Thursday after round one when Jonathan excuse me on yeah,
head of round two, Jonathan Gavoni from ESPN was on
TV and they were asking him why Philipowski feil because
you said he was a lottery talent and one things
he said it was that NBA teams had question marks
about him, specifically regarding his girlfriend. There had been rumors

(32:19):
in scuttle But that she was a little bit older
than him and that he was a strange from his family.
So they had questions about the situation and they were
not satisfied with the answers he provided in interviews. Well,
on Thursday night, after all of this kind of leak
out a little bit more public, two of Philipowski's family
members went on Twitter and started to explain their story.

(32:40):
His brother Daniel put out on Twitter look up and
read on Mormon grooming and brainwashing you'll find some introductory
details in there to connect some of the dots of
the story of what's going on here. He added that
his brother confirmed that he's not talking to him and
that he can't get in touch with him outside of
Instagram messages because his page is public and they kid's

(33:01):
a public figure. Later on, his mother, Kyle Philipowski's mother
chimed in on Twitter as well, said, you talking about
the media are opening a two year issue and she
the girlfriend, is twenty eight, which make her about seven
years older than him, with an endgame three years ago
to have a diamond ring on her finger when Kyle

(33:22):
left Duke. He was still in high school when they
started seeing each other.

Speaker 1 (33:28):
Sean, what do you think about this?

Speaker 3 (33:29):
This is bizarre.

Speaker 7 (33:31):
Yeah, oh well making the cherry on top, guys, is
the whole thing is. They're blaming it on the Mormon
grooming situation. He got dropped by the Utah Jazz which
has a very high Mormon population.

Speaker 1 (33:42):
Just saying, let me say quickly a couple things, Sean. One,
Aaron Rodgers has had obviously in his strained relationship with
his parents, and it didn't stop him from being a
great player. Jalen Brown was until recently. He's twenty six,
maybe twenty seven now. He was dating a woman that

(34:03):
was forty two up until recently. You know, he obviously
has been a great player. But I think so those
things in and of themselves, I mean, that shouldn't stop
you from drafting a guy. But I think what they
probably looked at Sean is they questioned, kind of is

(34:24):
everybody's not a leader. Every great player isn't a leader.
But you know, just wow, this guy is being led
around by his girlfriend to the point where he allowed
her to actually make him family right like that? That
is kind of that makes you wonder about And I
don't want to castle spurge is on Philipowski, but that

(34:47):
does make you wonder about a guy's character that you
would let a woman take you away from your entire family.

Speaker 2 (34:56):
Now.

Speaker 1 (34:56):
I don't know if they hurt her, they did something,
but that just that would give you pause. And if
he hadn't answered it in a way to satisfactory to you,
I can kind of understand why teams might want to
shy away from that.

Speaker 3 (35:09):
And listen, a lot of people don't know this.

Speaker 4 (35:10):
I'm a diehard Duke men's basketball fan, Like literally so
you watch him a lot. Yeah, way back, Johnny Dawkin's
Tommy ammerker Day's like always been.

Speaker 3 (35:20):
He might be the most spoiled rotten kid we've had
since Grayson Allen.

Speaker 1 (35:25):
Oh, y'all had a lot.

Speaker 4 (35:26):
Yeah, I mean he's Luca. He's luca ish during the game,
always whining and arguing. But now it makes sense. He
getting babied at home. The thing is, is it legal
if she's seven years older than him.

Speaker 3 (35:38):
I heard she took him the prom.

Speaker 1 (35:40):
Well, yeah, no, I mean that's a good obviously is
legal now. But he's twenty years old now, right if
this was all getting arrested, Yeah, that's it makes sense.

Speaker 3 (35:53):
Now it makes sense.

Speaker 4 (35:54):
He behaves like somebody that went home, and I thought
he just was a mama he acted, But in some sense,
I guess he kind of still is a mama's poison.
He's considering the age difference. But I mean, it is
what it is. I knew something happened. He had done
enough I thought to be a first round pick, but
I good riddans. The only person I was glad to

(36:17):
see leave Duke was Grayson Allen. That was the only one.
They're very similar in characteristics, how they handle themselves. It
makes sense now.

Speaker 1 (36:25):
Yeah, and unless your game is like magical, you know
what I mean? There are things like this will matter
to teams because I mean, he is a good play
seven feet and he's got some ability. I'm not I
don't think he's gonna be a star, and so teams.
But he's a big guy that can shoot. There's a
spot for him. Oh yeah, Yeah, he'll have a career.

(36:47):
But I mean, do you think he's gonna be a star? No?
All right, So that's my point. Like to put up
with all of that, or even to put my job
in jeopardy, you better be like great.

Speaker 4 (37:04):
And there's no dow tunnel like old Boy's wife back
in the table for the Kings.

Speaker 1 (37:12):
Oh uh, Doug Christie, she's still on the Basketball Wives too.

Speaker 4 (37:18):
Oh she was always is miss Philips in the tunnel.
She's gonna be in practice.

Speaker 1 (37:22):
Well, it would be interesting to see if they get married.
You know, I thought they were married already. Are they
drop g Are they married? Philipowski?

Speaker 3 (37:30):
No, they're not married.

Speaker 1 (37:31):
Okay, okay, what are your thoughts on still?

Speaker 3 (37:35):
What are my thoughts?

Speaker 1 (37:36):
This whole situation is kind of crazy?

Speaker 3 (37:38):
Number one?

Speaker 1 (37:39):
But number two.

Speaker 7 (37:40):
I'm personally I don't care what he does with his
personal life and his girlfriend. If he can play and
he's not impacting the team, I don't see why they
were causing to fall in the draft.

Speaker 1 (37:48):
I do, but you don't see like people. I think
they're looking at his mentality. They're looking at his mental I.

Speaker 7 (37:56):
Mean, Jalen Green is dating a woman who's you know,
kayling in the round with several and he's in the
middle of a lost a lot of them and he's
gonna get a max contract from the Rocket soon.

Speaker 1 (38:06):
Yeah, but he's proven in the NBA he can get
it done. This guy hasn't proven that in the NBA.

Speaker 3 (38:11):
Hey, get your house back, by the way.

Speaker 1 (38:13):
Now, if people thought he was going to be a superstar,
then that's that's I think that's different. But sometimes it
just gives you a window into a guy's mentality and
people look at that. All right, Sean, great stop brother,
