Coastal erosion has been a growing problem for some MA communities like Salisbury and Plum Island. This year, Salisbury Beach residents spent $600k out of pocket and trucked in 15,000 tons of sand for protective dunes. Contrary to initial reports, a large portion of the sand deployed by local residents last month remains in the beach’s littoral system, and it once again provided valuable protection during this storm. That sand, however, is sacrificial and continues to erode from the coastal dune. Plum Island has also been facing extreme erosion in the last couple of years, seeing some of their homes get destroyed by the ocean. MA Senator Bruce Tarr joined us to take calls and discuss the action MA is taking to assist coastal communities tackling erosion.

Former U.S. Senator Scott Brown also called in to weigh in.
