The historical marker unveiled here features a huge picture of
what this neighborhood on Prince Street looked like between around
nineteen o eight to nineteen twenty eight, when there was
a huge natural gas tank here more than one hundred
feet tall. Robin Reid, president of Friends of De Filippo Playground,
says the group pushed for this memorial to preserve history.

There's so much pride and community involvement here in the
North End. We thought it was important for tourists and
everyone that lives here to know the history of this playground,
above and beyond Paul Revere and the Old North Church.
This is a small area, but a really important piece
of history of the North End.
