Suffolk Downs Redevelopment Project Opens First Apartment

It's the very first step in a very ambitious project.

Speaker 2 (00:02):
Basically, when we're done, there will be approximately fifteen thousand
people living here and maybe twenty five thousand people coming
to work here every day.

Speaker 1 (00:09):
HYM Investment CEO Tom O'Bryan says his company is building
an entirely new neighborhood, really a city within a city
here at the old Suffolk Downs racetrack. This first building
Amaya opened this summer. It's mostly studios in one beds,
geared towards younger communities who take the Blue Line. Right
next door to Boston.

We just noticed the entire industry that really helps support
Revere's commercial infrastructure was dotting to fill.

Speaker 1 (00:30):
Mayor Patrick Keef says the city wanted something to happen
with this land when Suffolk Down shuttered in twenty seventeen.
When all the buildings in this project are completed, they'll
raking up to thirty million dollars in tax revenue every
year for the city.

It gives us the ability to really think big. Recently,
we just approved a brand new, state of the art
high school.
