The Pit in Harvard Square was a popular open space
for college students, skateboarders, misfits and everyone in between to
hang out and to fit in. But now it's a
literal pit. As construction crews dig up the plaza.

Well, I do wonder what it's going to be that
continues to be a sort of anchor for Harvard Square.

Good thing for that guy who's worked in the area
for decades. That is the goal. Denise Joson is with
the Harvard Square Business Association.

The new iteration of the pit, which will be basically
ground level to the Cambridge Savings Bank sidewalk, will be
a similar place. That's our expectation.

Pit bricks that were salvaged have been auctioned off, with
proceeds going to Bridge Over Troubled Waters, the nonprofit that
