think that I understand that like it can be. I
don't know. I I'm really fortunate to be comfortable in
New York. Like you know what I mean. It's not
comfortable for everybody.

Speaker 2 (03:05):
No one's comfortable in New York. Billionaires are un comfortable.

Speaker 1 (03:08):
I'm freezing, yes, yeah, and I it's it's cool. I
like taking the train. I like, I don't like paying
so much for ubers this nine dollar like congestion or whatever.
That's that feels like it should not be legal. But
I don't know, I'm really into it. It feels good

(03:29):
to be back on the East Coast. I'm from Massachusetts,
so my family is nearby and I can just hop
on a train and be with them, and it's it's great.

Speaker 2 (03:38):
Well, so you live uptown, I live downtown Uptown. Yeah,

But actually bought your tickets to go see you in
San Diego. It cost me a lot of money, go
do it, but I'm definitely gonna do it.

Speaker 2 (05:50):
How much how much your tickets for? I'm kind of curious.

Speaker 1 (05:52):
They're not that crazy.

Speaker 2 (05:53):

Speaker 3 (05:55):
I mean it was the VIP package to meet the
to meet there meeting.

Speaker 1 (06:00):
That's right.

Speaker 3 (06:02):
But then I got to fly over to San Diego.
I gotta flash somebody into fill in for my shift
while I.

Speaker 1 (06:07):
Go, oh my god, Chris, Well, I appreciate that dedication.
That is really Chris.

Speaker 2 (06:15):
Let's be honest. She's right.

Speaker 3 (06:16):
I do it every time. Thank you, guys, Thank you Chris.

Speaker 1 (06:20):
We'll see you in San Diego.

Speaker 2 (06:21):
You're the only call we're putting on.

Speaker 1 (06:23):
But thank you.

Speaker 2 (06:24):
Gandhi has a safe Gandhi has an appropriate question.

Speaker 1 (06:27):
Inappropriate.

Speaker 4 (06:28):
I really just want to know.

Speaker 5 (06:29):
You said you drive a bus for celebrities, so you
meet celebrities all the time. What is it about Jojo
that you love so much?

Speaker 3 (06:35):
Oh god, everything I've been I've been in fancys for
you know, she came out with the swag like I mean,
she started a lot of trends. I think she's beautiful.
Everything about her just I love her.

Speaker 2 (06:51):
And sometimes she hits that note sometimes I do you
never fail? You never felt well, Chris. That's so cool.
She see you in San Diego and she's wrapping up
her tour here in New York. I believe we.

Speaker 1 (07:03):
Extended We're going to Miami. Actually we're going to seven days.
It was going to be New York. We said we
can't stop.

Speaker 2 (07:10):
Now, Well, I don't know. I'm to spend the wheel.
I may see you in both anyway, Chris, thank you
so much for listening to us. And you have the
best day ever.

Speaker 3 (07:16):
Okay, thank you, guys, appreciate it.

Speaker 2 (07:18):
There you see he wasn't a stalker. Nice Okay, Okay,
it's so mean what Nate said. Hey, so, jo Jo,
the last time you were here, you were in Mulam Route.

Speaker 1 (07:28):
That's right.

Speaker 2 (07:29):
How was your Broadway experience?

Speaker 5 (07:31):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (07:31):
I loved it. I think I thrive in like high
Cortissoult environments. Actually right, yeah, And there's nothing like that
Broadway schedule. It's I was doing seven shows a week,
a lot, and it is typically I think, I mean,
some people do eight shows a week. It's unbelievable. It
is a lot. But I love the community. I loved

(07:53):
doing the same thing every night. I loved getting to
place a teen and it was so much fun. I
liked it so much that I am developing a digital
musical and I'm working on another one that's been in
development for a long.

Speaker 2 (08:04):
Time based for you.

Speaker 1 (08:05):
Yeah, I'm really really excited, so that's gonna continue, and
I'm just like overjoyed. I feel like a little kid.
What's harder is touring harder? No? I think Broadways the hardest. Personally, Yeah,
I have. I've always had the most respect for people
that do musical theater, but I never knew how many
times a week they actually do it. The two show

(08:26):
days are really something else, like two shows on Wednesdays,
two shows on Saturdays, sometimes two shows Sunday, depending on
what the schedule is. And that's especially with a if
it's a show that has a big sing, like Wicked
or you know, the color purple or even uh, you know,
it's just like unbelievable how vocally taxing it.

Speaker 2 (08:46):
Can the big sing because those like those money notes.

Speaker 1 (08:52):
Yeah, And I.

Speaker 6 (08:53):
Sometimes will watch a show and I will say, oh
my gosh, how are they going to do this again
in a couple of hours and put that much emotion
into it.

Speaker 1 (09:00):
I'm thinking about my friend Nicole Scherzinger and like how
she is doing Sunset Boulevard and like leaving everything on
stage and sounding like an angel bird and like just
ascending to the highest heights of vocal perfection. And I'm
just like, how are you human?

Speaker 2 (09:21):
Yeah, it's amazing. You know, if you're going to leave
everything on the stage, this may get gross. Leave everything
on the you know what I'm saying, Just just lose
control of your bowels.

Speaker 1 (09:34):
Nobody wants to see that. Do you know what?

Speaker 2 (09:36):
I feel like I'm getting my money's words.

Speaker 4 (09:37):
If you give me that much, it would be an experience.

Speaker 1 (09:39):
Have you went to a place called the Box. I've
seen some very strange things, someone leaving everything on stage
at the Box. If y'all know what I'm talking about,
you know what I'm talking about. And something I can't
unsee it I had to share with someone Google. We
went to the Vault once, but.

Speaker 2 (09:55):
Not the boy. They were licking Daniel's toes.

Speaker 5 (09:58):
I saw you in rouge and it was incredible and
I was astounded because I wanted to hear you sing,
and all I could hear was the people around me
singing so loudly because they had all seen it five
to ten times.

Speaker 2 (10:10):
What do you think about that? Because they were the show,
the sing along show.

Speaker 1 (10:14):
No I was not.

Speaker 2 (10:15):
It turned show.

Speaker 1 (10:18):
I'm like, oh no, you went to the sing along
that was something else.

Speaker 2 (10:20):
How do you feel about that if it's not technically
the sing along show and they're all belting it out
to me, I mean they're into it exactly.

Speaker 1 (10:29):
She hated.

Speaker 5 (10:31):
But I was like, this is my first time piped
down people. But it was it was like Deanna who
has seen it five times, a couple of other people
from here who have seen it so many times, and
there's an obsession with that show that I absolutely understand.
And then I went home. I thought, I'm going to
watch this movie unavailable to stream anywhere. Rude. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (10:48):
I love Baz Luhrman. Yeah, I love that movie.

Speaker 2 (10:50):
As what an interesting guy. We've had him on the
show several times.

Speaker 1 (10:53):
Yeah. Interesting. I got to meet him. He came came
into my dressing room and I'm like, are you Baz Luhrman.

Speaker 2 (11:00):
Crazy? And his mind is wired in such a very
fun way. Remember that's you know that song that we
played by him? Song screen? We played that all the time.
I'll play it for you can play your music. Let's
talk about your music. Jojoe is here, by the way,
if you're just turning us on. Her EP is out tomorrow.
I believe it's called me ng L, which stands for

(11:21):
not Gonna lie, not Gonna lie. Yeah, okay, let's talk
about EP versus album. Sure, okay, there's an album has this,
I guess typically an average number of cuts on it.

Speaker 1 (11:31):
It's nine or above nine or above. Yeah, I think
this is eight or seven. But like an interlude, Jojo,
can't you just commut? Like squeeze up?

Speaker 3 (11:38):
Can commit?

Speaker 1 (11:39):
No?

Speaker 2 (11:40):
Squeeze out? Two more songs?

Speaker 1 (11:41):
I have so many songs. But the thing is, I
just I have been uh in the music industry since
I was a fetus and a lot and I am
like currently unsubscribing from old ways of thinking and like
old you know things that I put on myself or
haven't been put on me, so EPs and mixtapes. I
feel more free.

Speaker 2 (12:00):
Doing okay your way, don't you help me? I do
my thigh Jojo. I'm just thinking what would sound like?

Speaker 1 (12:10):
You can hear me as a fetus on Leave Get Out?
I was wow, like, yeah, you know, I ever think
of redoing that?

Speaker 6 (12:20):
Like I was telling him before, like Justin Bieber made
one of my favorite Christmas albums ever, but he did
it when he was very young. I'd love for him
to redo that now, to hear what he would sound like, Now,
would you ever think do that?

Speaker 1 (12:32):
So in twenty eighteen, I re recorded my first two albums.
So that's what I did, said like a Taylor Swift
lawsuit thing. No, I did it before. Actually, yeah it was.
It was before My first two albums weren't available on
streaming services because my label didn't do a deal with
the DSPs, so it was anyway boring stuff. But I
was like, I'm tired of feeling like I'm you know,

(12:53):
a victim of circumstance. Is like, what can I do?

Speaker 3 (12:55):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (12:56):
I can cover my songs? So anyway, you hear my
twenty seven year old voice, and you know my first
two its, and my fans have supported it in a
phenomenal way. And you know, there were number one on
iTunes and you know they were they streamed super well,
so they have really kept me aflow.

Speaker 2 (13:10):
Find those get them. We walked in this morning Jojo
and I said, we're gonna play a song today. He said, well,
I got a couple of songs, so we have, and
so we The first one I hit this morning was
ready to Love, Oh nice, and.

Speaker 1 (13:25):
It's gonna drop at midnight, along with the EP it.

Speaker 2 (13:27):
Hasn't dropped yet? Is this legal?

Speaker 1 (13:30):
Yeah? Probably ready to love and too much to say?
Were those the ones?

Speaker 2 (13:36):
It kicks in? It kicks in in a second, and
it feels good right here, right here? Can the phone anymore?

Speaker 1 (13:47):
It's like waiting stating.

Speaker 2 (13:49):
Just sounds good. I'm gonna play the whole thing. Really,
I'm sorry, sorry about that. I like to hear so
I can see you in a studio with the big speakers,
all the buttons and knobs things, yeah, with producers and writers,
and you turn it really loud and you're like, well, hey, guys,
this turned out really great, right undred percent? Is that

(14:10):
what it's like being in the cockpit when when you
hear almost like a final mix, and you're like yeah, yeah.

Speaker 1 (14:16):
I mean, you know, when you write a song and
then you step away from it, sometimes there's the chorus
A I mean, sometimes you're like, wow, this is really good,
and then you're like do I suck? And then you're
like nothing I do is good, and then you're like, no,
this is really good. It's such a rollercoaster. But I
like to like write a song, take some space away
from it, and then see how I feel, and so

(14:37):
I wrote this at the end of twenty twenty three
and then lived with it and decided that I did
want to put out a project. And then to hear
the evolution of these songs has been really, really cool,
and like fine tune the production and say, you know,
can we turn this up? Can we do this? I
love that whole process.

Speaker 2 (14:53):
It just sounds so lush. I love that word the background.

Speaker 1 (14:58):
You know, I am from an era where I love
a lot of a rich, thick, lush background treatment.

Speaker 2 (15:04):
Things have changed a lot since you started. They have today.
I mean, you can throw something out there and right
right now, for instance, we're gonna play your music in
a few minutes and you're gonna get immediate feedback. Yeah,
good and bad, evil, right evil, It's all yeah. Do
you like this version of the music industry a lot
more than the original that you started it?

Speaker 1 (15:25):
I like it because, well, not only is the music
industry different, I'm different and I'm more adaptable, and I'm
just like I roll with the punches, and I think
that there's a lot more opportunity for artists to connect
directly with their fans. It's not easy. I'm very fortunate

(15:45):
that I have a really loyal, amazing, enthusiastic fan base
that you know, I'm really have a great relationship with.
But I imagine it's challenging to like start and try to
get some traction on tick talk and Instagram and stuff.
When you I mean, there's so much. Ten thousand songs
are uploaded on DSPs every day. That's insane. So it's

(16:08):
it's a crazy time, But I think it's there's less.
It doesn't genres don't matter as much. You know, artists
are just making a unique synthesis of all their influences,
and I think that's it's a fire time to be
a creative person.

Speaker 2 (16:24):
Looking back, Jojoe, from your roots, your beginning in the industry,
is there something that happened I'll go here. Is there
something that happened then that kind of broke your heart
and you're still heartbroken over it? Something that kind of
shattered your heart over when you started.

Speaker 1 (16:42):
I don't know that I'm still shattered by it. But
like I've been in therapy for ten years, so that's
a lot of money. You know, that's a long time.
Well spent money, well spent money. But I think what
was really heartbreaking for me is I'm an only child.
I come from a you know, quote unquote broken home.
Like I already had that foundation, and I was like
bullied in school and all that stuff. And then to

(17:03):
have people tell me from a young age that they're
like my you know, be my uncle figures and my
brothers and my father figures and all this stuff, and
then tell them, you know, them telling me they love
me at like twelve thirteen, fourteen and really believing that
we're a family, and then for them to just like
jump ship and be like, oh, this doesn't make I
can make more money over here or do that. That

(17:25):
is a heartbreaking thing to learn very young, and that
definitely skews the way that you look at life and
people and relationships. And that's something that I'm still dealing
with now, but not.

Speaker 2 (17:36):
Forevermore probably and forever mon, we're all we're still we're
still kind of trying to figure it out.

Speaker 1 (17:43):
Yeah. So trust is a challenging thing for me because
I put my trust in people from a young age
and then I had to learn really quickly that business
is not personal. And I think that made me a
cold blooded person for a long time, and I applied
it too much, like too liberally and I was, but
sometimes things are personal.

Speaker 4 (18:02):
Yeah, it feels personal when someone screws you over it does?

Speaker 1 (18:05):
It does?

Speaker 2 (18:05):
But how you write a song about it?

Speaker 3 (18:07):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (18:07):
You do. I felt super disconnected from it. I was,
I was numb. But you know, now now I have
outlets that I that make more sense for me.

Speaker 6 (18:13):
What about social media? Like when you started social media,
wasn't you know?

Speaker 1 (18:17):
Really I launched on MySpace, so social media was like
just at the precipice, right, So what it is now
as to what it was then?

Speaker 6 (18:26):
Like, you know, you know how people can be cruel
to everybody, and how do you like weed out that
or or ignore the negativity which you know everybody gets.

Speaker 1 (18:34):
Well, I'm a grown up, like so it's I mean,
that doesn't mean that I'm don't have feelings. I do,
Like it impacts me when people are like say mean things,
but I feel really bad, Like I couldn't imagine being thirteen,
which is the age that I put out my first
single at like now. But I think that kids deal
with it across the board. I think everybody probably feels

(18:57):
the pressure that I felt as a kid because social
media gives you that feedback loop and like someone will
post a picture and immediately they're like, oh, should I
take it down because it only got twenty likes? Like say,
you know, it's just a kid in school, you know,
and they're like, oh, maybe that's not good scary guilty No,
but like lunacy, what is that doing to the developing

(19:20):
mind that's squishy and impressionable and stuff.

Speaker 2 (19:22):
You're an adult now, yeah, we got to take her
out of the kid boxy, you know.

Speaker 1 (19:26):
No, I'm just saying I like, I'm grateful that I
I don't know, I'm seasoned.

Speaker 2 (19:31):
You're doing fine, fine, Yeah, living in your own place
in New York City. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (19:37):
On a scale of one to ten, how devastated were
you with the disappearance of TikTok for like twelve hours?

Speaker 1 (19:42):
I was fine with it. I'm so glad. I'm sorry
that I was sorry with it, like I was, you know,
I'll be honest, though I was. I was sad for
the people friends of mine, who you know, like built
their their careers on TikTok, And I'm like, dang, I
know it does It's not just it doesn't just transfer
over to another app. So I'm like, what are they
going to do? But I'm like, I don't know, you know,

(20:03):
as far as for me, that's okay, but it's not
just about me. So I was definitely thinking about the
people that have built amazing lives and careers on TikTok
living back.

Speaker 2 (20:11):
So it's back. Yeah, Jojo is here. We're going to
play some music from m g L. Not Gonna Lie
her EP, which is released tomorrow. But why wait, let's
play it all now? So okay, the checklist of things
you have to understand living in New York City?

Speaker 1 (20:24):
Oh, please tell me because I'm brand new.

Speaker 2 (20:26):
No, you know you know some more than me, probably, Okay, Well,
you know, when you're walking down the sidewalk, don't look
up at buildings because you're going to run into someone.

Speaker 1 (20:38):
Yeah, that's tourist behavior. You gotta. Yeah, go and watch
the bikes because they do not care. They will run
right over.

Speaker 4 (20:44):
You and they go a multiple directions.

Speaker 1 (20:46):
Yeah, the bikes, I've learned that the hard way.

Speaker 2 (20:48):
Yeah, sure, right in the subway? Yeah, what have you
learned on the subway? Right?

Speaker 1 (20:52):
You know there's a lot of smells, there's a lot
of sights.

Speaker 2 (20:55):
Yeah, there's a lot of mystery liquid.

Speaker 1 (20:57):
And mystery liquid. I always I always think it's when
people bring their own soundtrack and want to share it
with you, you know what I mean. Like I've been put
onto a lot of new music that way. Like I'm
like people, it's like with a boombox, you know, I'm like,
you have a boombox for real?

Speaker 2 (21:15):
They still made.

Speaker 1 (21:15):
I didn't know they still made.

Speaker 2 (21:16):
They live with light shows on them all stuff.

Speaker 5 (21:19):
You can never stop outside a revolving door. You keep
going and then you stop, and obviously at the bottom
or top of any escalator. But that's just common sense
for anywhere.

Speaker 1 (21:27):
I agree, that's everywhere.

Speaker 2 (21:29):
Well, think you have any issue with New York City,
I think you've owned it. You own it already, And
I've always said ever since I moved here, everyone should
spend at least a year of their lives living in
the city. And sometimes we're trapped. We can't get out
of it, all right. So the tour, Yeah, you've added
more days of course in our Miami, which I'm so
excited about. So tell me where you are kicking on

(21:50):
February twenty second.

Speaker 1 (21:51):
Okay, so twenty second in Nashville. So super excited, And
I'll be out till mid April. Come see me. I
I just think this is going to be the best
tour I've ever done because I'm having so much fun
in my life and everything translates, like the way you
feel translates to the way you perform, and so I'm

(22:12):
looking forward to it. Like moving here and having the
experience of being on Broadway, it sharpened me. It made
me be like, ooh, I want to go do my
own music now. So it's been a minute. It's been
four years since I released my last project, and this
this I'm like, what is it called? This tour is
going to be yes the new music, but also taking

(22:34):
it back nostalgic, and every single time we put together
a completely new set list, like it's not just we're like,
we're calling it a new tour and we're doing the
same thing. It's never that.

Speaker 2 (22:44):
So I'm going to ask you something I've never asked
anyone because I don't ever go down this road because
I don't like it when interviewers do it. So I'm
gonna go ahead and throw it out there. Are you
dating anyone?

Speaker 1 (22:54):
I am?

Speaker 2 (22:55):
Okay, Okay, next question, Well, because I've never died, I've
never ever got you go down that road with me. Okay.
The thought process was on the road, you want to
take me out, I'm trying to. I'm sure you're dating
lots of old gay guys before.

Speaker 1 (23:17):
But he's married to.

Speaker 2 (23:20):
You can date him too. I don't give Okay, here's
the more my thought process was. And as an interviewer,
I guess I when thinking hitting the road going out,
I'm looking at all these dates. You're starting in February,
and you're rolling around l A. And you're going home
to Boston, and you're doing Chicago and everywhere New York
and then Miami. Is that good for a relationship.

Speaker 1 (23:43):
TVD I'll let you know no, I actually think I
don't know. If somebody understands like what that is like,
then it's probably helpful.

Speaker 2 (23:52):
Okay, okay, good, Yeah again, next question, So is my
Mike so long? I never do that. It's weird.

Speaker 4 (24:00):
You really don't get.

Speaker 2 (24:01):
I get you just.

Speaker 1 (24:02):
Felt comfortable with me. Well we're old friends.

Speaker 2 (24:05):
Sure, okay, I'll take that.

Speaker 5 (24:07):
So any more personal questions about what is his name?

Speaker 4 (24:10):
What's the social security?

Speaker 2 (24:13):
Don't don't let them ask any questions because they're the
worst and the best. Hey, I want to play some music. Yeah,
we just heard like a little hair of ready to Love,
but we didn't hear start over, and I've heard start
over is well, the difference between the two is.

Speaker 1 (24:31):
Oh, between ready to Love and start Over. Yes, start
Over was when I was like in this on again,
off again thing for like ten years, which is not
a good idea. But I don't always, you know, make
the best choices always, and so that's that's what this
is about. I was like, you know, what if, just hypothetically,
what if we could go back in time and you know,

(24:52):
see the mistakes before we made them. And then Ready
to Love is being like, you know what, I actually
see that you are no longer not emotionally available, and
that's not attractive to me. I actually want to like
set myself up for success. I'm too grown for like
doing the same thing expecting different results. So I'm actually

(25:12):
going to make room for somebody. That's where I'm at.
So it's like a progression within that journey.

Speaker 2 (25:19):
Jojo, I'm kind of wondering who's driving to work right now, going,
oh my god, that's me. I'm in the same seat
that JoJo's.

Speaker 1 (25:28):
Haven't we all? I mean, I'm like so many of us.

Speaker 2 (25:31):
Yeah, I'm I'm tired of begging someone to fall in
love with me, yeah, or be with me.

Speaker 1 (25:35):
Or begging for forgiveness or like you know, just to
see me in a different light, or enough of that. Yeah,
enough of that.

Speaker 2 (25:41):
I'm growing up now. This is the second time you've
said that, since you said.

Speaker 1 (25:44):
I need to stop driving that home like it's obvious. Actually,
why am I What do I have to No?

Speaker 2 (25:47):
No, no, no, I think no. It's great because there
are people listening right now. They're going, oh my god,
I so appreciate where she is. Dang it, I'm in
the same place too. This is great, This is awesome,
very relatable.

Speaker 1 (25:59):
Yeah, I mean, why do you what do you.

Speaker 2 (26:01):
Want to write something down? Just tell me what? Okay? Yeah,
apparently you've got things to do. You're you're cheating on
this with other outlets today. Never makes me mad. I'm
not gonna play your stupid music.

Speaker 5 (26:20):
Music.

Speaker 2 (26:20):
I'm having abandoned issues. You should understand this. I want
to play start over Yeah, all right, scary. Why are
you gonna put it over there? It works over here,
it works both places.

Speaker 3 (26:30):
All right.

Speaker 2 (26:35):
There's a problem with the sound. It's garbled.

Speaker 1 (26:37):
I like to start off my songs garbled.

Speaker 2 (26:39):
Okay, yeah, it's like, what did she say underwater? I
didn't know it was a zero intro? As we say, so,
uh is this? It is this goodbye?

Speaker 1 (26:45):
This is start over. Oh we're not doing it.

Speaker 2 (26:47):
Okay, a song called goodbye. The song is start over.
But this is time to say, Okay, well I'm gonna
play it again. We're gonna play the garbled part and
then hopefully it'll kick in. Yeah, maybe the sound in
you had a little problem that day. I'm kidding.

Speaker 1 (27:03):
We'll make where choices Elvis. I don't want to tell
you I like my garbled sound.

Speaker 2 (27:06):
You have a busy day. Apparently, when's your next when's
your next schedule or whatever? Like in ten minutes? One minute?

Speaker 1 (27:13):
Oh my god, so we should just sit here for
a minute. It's just one minute meditation over there.

Speaker 2 (27:19):
Let me give you the details. NGL not gonna lie.
The new EP from Jojo released midnight tonight, and we're Kenna.
We're only giving you two of the seven cuts.

Speaker 1 (27:32):
Yeah all right.

Speaker 2 (27:33):
She could have put two more on there and made
it an album. Everyone's doing that. You want a quick
final thought for Jojo before we play the song?

Speaker 4 (27:43):
Good luck with everything?

Speaker 1 (27:43):
Thank you?

Speaker 4 (27:44):
I think it's gonna be awesome.

Speaker 1 (27:45):
Thank you, keep being fabulous. Oh you guys, don't forget us,
don't forget don't forget it, Never forget you.

Speaker 2 (27:51):
When you get that Broadway show. Oh you already did that.
Are you gonna be doing Broadway anytime soon? You talked
about developing next year? Next year?

Speaker 1 (28:00):
Oh so New York is a show already out.

Speaker 2 (28:06):
I could see you in Oklahoma.

Speaker 1 (28:09):
Okay, I never say no, sorry with the fringe on
top Oklahoma?

Speaker 2 (28:13):
All right, Jojo. This is from the new EP called
m g L. This is start Over
