Speaker 1 (00:00):
Radio and podcasts.

Speaker 2 (00:01):
Free never sounded so good.

Speaker 1 (00:04):
This show really is all over the place.

Speaker 3 (00:07):
I sometimes wonder if there's anybody left listening out there,
ding dong, Hello, Please do respond, just so I know
you're there. I don't care about calls, but next segment
eight three three four one two WSDX, let me know
that you're still listening. I am going to get a
more stuck into the Steelers this segment, the Steelers are

(00:30):
just drowning an ancillary garbage, Rogers being wonky, the media
and fans kind of turning on Mike Tomlin deservedly so.
The focus on the upcoming draft in Pittsburgh, and that
may be influencing football decisions that should go in a
different direction, like not trading a draft pick at the

(00:50):
trade deadline, the decline of what after signing that big ticket,
the flop of Metcalf, the failure that tight end room,
really the whole vision fan five and four, and on
top of the AFC nor Dully noted, this isn't going
like it's supposed to. It's getting worse and not better.
I guarantee Aaron Rodgers would agree. It's the Mark Man Show.

(01:17):
I think I'm at Carson's Tavern in Scottdale for the
game on Sunday, kickoff at one pm. You want to
watch this game with me, come to Carsons. It's gonna
be epic classic because it is just, I mean, the potential.
They could win forty nothing, they could lose forty nothing,
maybe not forty nothing. That Bengals defense couldn't pitch a

(01:40):
shutout against.

Speaker 1 (01:41):
Shaler High School.

Speaker 3 (01:43):
So join me Sunday at Carson's in Scottdale for Steelers
versus Bengals. They go to Penguins viewing party by the way,
Pittsburgh Brewing nine am Sunday morning. That's gonna be kind
of fun out there in Creighton. And then we got
the Penguins talk of the Devil versus Nashville at Sweden
tomorrow puck drops at two pm here on the X
day off. For me, I might go watch that Running

(02:06):
Man not sequel, remake of reimagining whatever it is. This
trip to Sweden, it's fun for those guys. You can
see that with all the stuff posted on the Penguins website.
But they need to get points, every single point. Cons
The Penguins found that out in twenty twenty three and
twenty twenty four by just missing out on the playoffs

(02:29):
and still notice his Brunick. Will he stay or will
he go now back to juniors? But I'm told of
a loophole. I'd keep him what youth be sird, But
I'm told of a loophole. They can't send her to
the AHL, to Wilkes, because the role the agreement with

(02:51):
Junior A hockey. He has to play in the NHL
or go back to juniors. However, if any player is
a scratch for five straight game, he can be sent
to the AHL on a conditioning assignment. And that applies
here to Brunic as well. Maybe that's what they're angling for. Hey,
I'd keep them in the NHL. I would send them

(03:11):
for that conditioning assignment. But then I'll bring them back
to the NHL and keep them. Let youth be served.
I might keep morishof too, but let's see him play
a few more NHL games and the goalie thing, that'd
be tough.

Speaker 1 (03:22):
With contracts, giant shilloffs.

Speaker 3 (03:24):
You can't store that many veterans at big money at
NHL money Don and Wilkes. And by the way, I'm
not down on shilloffs at all. I think he's the
better of the two goalies between him and Jari, He's
been very good except for shootouts, if you didn't lose
the loser point for pulling the goalie in overtime. That's

(03:46):
a role, you know in the NHL, not in Russia.
Stay with me on this one. If you pull the
goalie in overtime and lose, you don't get the loser
point if an empty neckl score. But if it wasn't
for that, I'd say pull the goalie in three on
three because the Penguins are so bad in the shootout.
Red Army does that in rushing the KHL because you

(04:06):
don't lose the loser point there, they get possession, pull
the goalie four on three power play and usually wins.
Sergei Federof's the coach he came up with that. That's
good stuff. I mentioned earlier that the NFL draft being
of Pittsburgh next year probably is affecting the Steelers' decision
making with trades, etc. And maybe even the status of

(04:29):
Tom Win, although I remain convinced that they will never
fire him. That he has to want to leave to leave,
and the biggie could be you gotta draft the quarterback
in the future after failing with Kenny Pickett, after Tomlin
has failed and failed again at quarterback ever since been retired.
I mean the Picket choice to draft him in the

(04:51):
first round when no other NFL team would have, and
when most of the Steelers' organization contradicted Tomlin and did
not want to, but he always.

Speaker 1 (04:58):
Gets his way.

Speaker 3 (05:00):
That pick set the Steelers back four or five years,
as we're seeing right now with a forty one year
old man at quarterback and with Gruden saying Will Howard's
going to start in the league. Part of me, a
small part, could see Tom Win buying into Will Howard,

(05:22):
which he definitely shouldn't.

Speaker 1 (05:24):
But now I feel like the draft in.

Speaker 3 (05:26):
Pittsburgh dictates the Steelers take a quarterback and Art the
second gets that big moment at the podium. And by
the way, when they do draft the quarterback, Tom will
screw that up to He's never replaced man. He screwed
the Poochs by drafting Picket, like I said, when no
other team would have in the organization didn't want to
except for him. I don't trust Tom Wan to do

(05:47):
anything right. What's the last good decision of Mike Tomlin made. Seriously,
you tell me the last good decision He made a
three three, four to one two WXDX. It wasn't drafting
Broderick Jones. Wasn't drafting Pickett or Pickens or Lell in
twenty twenty two. There's your three first round picks in
twenty twenty two. Pickett gone, Pickens traded, le All just cut.

(06:12):
It certainly wasn't drafting Kendrick Green to piss benoff, it
doesn't look like drafting Caleb Johnson's gonna work the Minka trade,
the Ramsey trade, and john who comes here? He was
supposed to be the difference maker in that deal and
now he's pretty much on the payno mind list. Tomlin
is incompetent. Look at the evidence like I listed just

(06:33):
now and even more a little bit a go this
game on Sunday in Cincinnati. So what if the Steelers win,
where's it get him? And it's very losable. The offense
can stop itself like in LA, and the defense can't
stop Flacco and chasing Higgins.

Speaker 1 (06:51):
Nobody on the Steelers has a remote chance to cover Chase.

Speaker 3 (06:55):
They could triple team him and Flacco would get the
ball to him because he can get the ball to chase,
just like Rogers can't to DK. This game feels like
a Tom Win special, the bad kind. You got Rogers
being a sour puss, and the crowd cook get hostile.

Speaker 1 (07:11):
It can only be a bad turning point. Even a win.

Speaker 3 (07:14):
I mean, you want to get it, but the win
would be like treading sludge.

Speaker 2 (07:19):
You know what.

Speaker 3 (07:19):
I've seen a lot on Twitter lately, even more so.
You're too negative. You're a negative Nelly, negative Nancy, whatever
woman's name could best be applied to me. And I
do look good in lingerie, but but you know, I mean,
what am I supposed to do? John Gruden saying Will
Howard's gonna be a starter in the NFL.

Speaker 1 (07:38):
He just isn't. He just isn't. Skeen said he wants
to win here in Pittsburgh.

Speaker 3 (07:46):
He just won't. Skeen's wanting to stay. It's not gonna happen.
And too many people out there, and I think they
benefit from this, but they just rubber stamped. Oh yes,
Skeen's gonna win. He wants to stay, he wants to win.
And the and Gruden, I mean Gruden, and just like

(08:06):
every quarterback is great in his verbiage anyway.

Speaker 1 (08:09):
I don't know about in his mind, So I don't
know what am I supposed to do?

Speaker 3 (08:13):
Maybe quit like I should have What was it thirteen
months fourteen months ago? Should have quit? Should have quit,
should have quit? Still could should have quit then still
might probably not. I don't know why I hate myself.
That's why one oh five nine The.

Speaker 4 (08:27):
X Friday afternoon, the Penn's face off against the Predators.
Game time is two, Our coverage starts at one. Listen
to every game and the best Pens coverage on your
home of the Pittsburgh Penguins. Five nine.

Speaker 3 (08:42):
The X people are freaking out over this year, so loud,
but today's attribute to abba on and off all day.
With the Penguins playing in Sweden, this show gets preempted tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (08:57):
I don't think anybody is listening.

Speaker 3 (08:59):
I asked at the last if anybody listening could call
to confer there was any point in me continuing.

Speaker 1 (09:04):
To talk, because I'm not sure anymore.

Speaker 3 (09:06):
Like I said, this show's all over the place, but
I like it, and that's what cons the most.

Speaker 1 (09:10):
I mean.

Speaker 3 (09:11):
John five Motley Cruz guitarist, Screw the Steelers, Screw the Pirates,
screw the Penguins, even Skeens Howard f them all. I
got to talk to Motley Cruz, guitarist and don't forget
fives at Jurgles on Monday Night along with Richie Cottson.
I like this Terry Bradshaw SoundBite. He says that we

(09:34):
shouldn't just assume Tom Brady is the best quarterback ever.

Speaker 5 (09:39):
I always said, whether Tom Brady is the greatest quarterback
they ever plays?

Speaker 1 (09:43):
Okay, is he really? Oto Graham might be the greatest
quarterback they ever played. How many titles Doato win him?

Speaker 2 (09:52):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (09:52):
Look it up? And then Tom lost three.

Speaker 5 (09:57):
I was touring out Montana was four and oh Tom
was seven and three seven minus three is four four
four four the way I look at it.

Speaker 3 (10:13):
I love Terry a child to her hero on mine
and that four four four stuff.

Speaker 1 (10:19):
That's kind of the way I look at it too.

Speaker 3 (10:21):
And Brady is assumed to be the best quarterback ever
because he won seven Super Bowls. But Terry got this wrong.
Auto Graham also won seven championships for Cleveland. He won
seven championships for Cleveland. That's like winning seven hundred for
any other team. I got that's actually the bad analogy.
It's like, yeah it is, I got it right. And

(10:44):
five MVPs too. Bradshawn Montana wore four O, Brady won
seven and three. Brady was dink and dunk. Really, that's
what he was. Bradshaw made plays, Bradshaw went don Field.
I'd pick Bradshaw to win a big game before i'd
take Brady. And I'm gonna say that again just so
I'm sure you hear me and you believe it when
I say I would pick Terry Bradshaw to win a

(11:06):
big game before I take Tom Brady. And I'm one
percent positive that Dan Marino was a far better quarterback
than Tom Brady. Championships don't mean nothing, but nor do
they mean everything. We got Josh Joey in just a
little bit why from Sweden, hopefully live from the Abbe Museum. Sir,

(11:31):
you know, I don't think he's listening. I think that
happens sometimes. If you're listening, call I won't even put
you on the air. I just need to know that
you're listening. Actually I don't need to know. Don't call
who cares? Uh the Rogers thing, because I'm thinking Rogers
is probably ready to crack this thing. With Rogers is
maybe Sunday at La was just a bad game. But

(11:52):
Rogers is a little odd dark room ayahuasca, anti vax,
flat earth and all that. And he's forty one, and
there's it's a phantom wife's story in the New York Post,
which I hear has him upset. I'd bet that he's
disappointed with the situation in Pittsburgh not being what he'd
hoped for.

Speaker 1 (12:12):
And Saturday at La was real bad. Rogers was real bad,
real bad.

Speaker 3 (12:18):
Two picks that comes, He's safety, and he ditched on plays,
didn't want to get hit.

Speaker 1 (12:24):
Bad stats, no stats at all till garbage time.

Speaker 3 (12:27):
And given the body language in the booboo face, it's
easy to think that Rogers might fall apart Mits Mits
maybe not, but Mites eight three to three. We do
have people calling. We're not going to put you on,
but at least I know people are listening. I don't

(12:49):
know what to do with my day off tomorrow. Probably
watch The Running Man, the remake, go to maybe you
know what I hate about going to movies with his
die though Awaken one eighty is performing miracles. I went
to my doctor today. This should be an Awake of
one eighty commercial. I went to my doctor. My blood

(13:10):
pressure is so low it's ninety over seventy that he
is cutting the dosage of my blood pressure medicine in
half because my blood pressures dropped that much thanks to
losing weight with Awaken.

Speaker 1 (13:21):
One eighty Okay, let's take this one called Steve. What's up?

Speaker 2 (13:27):
Hey, Mark, was just letting you know that I was
looking it out here. Might be all alone, but I'm listening.

Speaker 1 (13:33):
Might be all alone. Well, that's encouraging.

Speaker 3 (13:35):
Up next, we talk hockey live from Svenska.

Speaker 1 (13:39):
I think is Sweden called Spenska in Svenska. I don't know.
Josh Owe up next, one O five to nine, one
O five nine.

Speaker 6 (13:45):
The ex says, your shot at eggs, drink cash money
like that, Luccho dineroad, I'm rich, rich, rich, give me
listen all day for your chance.

Speaker 1 (13:58):
Has some extra one nine if you can't get enough.
If you're a pitch.

Speaker 3 (14:07):
Putting us style alive from Sweden. He just sent a
photo of the entrance to the Abba Museum. He covers
the penguins for the Athletic. He's Josh Ohey, Josh, by
the photo, I'm assuming you've been to the Abba Museum,
and how great was it?

Speaker 2 (14:22):
It was absolutely magnificent. It was so great, In fact,
I think it might go back on Saturday when the
Penguins have another off date. You could literally spend all
day there. And I'm a little disappointed, Marky that you
didn't make this road trip, because I think he would love.

Speaker 1 (14:37):
The Abba Museum.

Speaker 3 (14:38):
Had I thought it through, I would have gone just
for the Abba Museum, not so much the games. I
see games all the time. But but you're right, I
just I don't know. I don't know if I thought
it through. Now, what's up with Brunick. He's on the trip,
He's played nine games, one more activates the first year
of his pro deal. Why are they taking so long
to decide?

Speaker 2 (15:00):
Well, it's a really good question, and there's a part
of me that thinks they're not sure what to do,
quite honestly, and I can tell you this. The plan
at the beginning of the season was to keep him
in Pittsburgh all year, and his first couple of games
were outstanding, did nothing to change anyone's mind, And obviously

(15:20):
he has struggled quite a bit his last three or
four appearances. I think we all know that there is
a loophole that I think. It's if he misses two
more games as a healthy scratch scratch, Yeah, they're allowed
to center to Wilkesbury for a stint a condition to
them doing that. That's right, and who knows, maybe they

(15:40):
let him go play in the World Juniors in December
against obviously high level competition, then bring him back to Pittsburgh.
I think everything is in play right now, but I
kind of still feel like if they were going to
send them back to juniors, they probably just would have
done it by now.

Speaker 3 (15:54):
Yeah, I think they're considering their options, but I think
that the wilkes loophole makes perfect sense. He could go
there for two weeks and you're kind of slow playing
for first season because I don't think he benefits going
back to junior.

Speaker 1 (16:05):
I just I just don't see.

Speaker 3 (16:07):
I mean, it's kind of it's the situation where I
wish the rule that goes in place next year existed now,
where they can send one nineteen year old to wilkes
instead of back to juniors.

Speaker 2 (16:19):
That's exactly where he should be right now, because I
don't think he is going to learn much more playing
junior hockey. As we all know, but let's be honest,
if the Penguins are going to keep playing the way
they have, if they're going to be in some kind
of a playoff race in February or March, you know,
if he's going to struggle and hurt them, I understand
why they don't want him in the lineup. So it

(16:39):
really is kind of a rough situation for everyone. And yeah,
the Wolfsburgy Lukole is starting to look I think, more
and more attractive by the minute.

Speaker 3 (16:47):
Does Sergei Morisheff the goalkeeper, does he automatically go back
to wilkes when Jari heels up? It's a contraxt thing too,
isn't it, with too many vets and Wilkes making too
much money.

Speaker 2 (16:58):
Yeah, I think that's the case. Jari is not looking
at a particularly long term injury. It looks like he'll
be back in a couple of weeks from everything we
have heard. And you know, the plan all along has
been Formrishov to play most of the season in Wilkesbury
and just kind of get comfortable dominating at that level.
I mean, I guess things get interesting if he goes

(17:21):
out and his lights out his next three or four
appearances at the NHL level. I'm sure there will be
a temptation to keep him, and I actually thought he
was pretty good against the Kings on Sunday, Mark the
thing was just in play a very good game in
front of him. But at all likelihood, yes, I think
he goes back, even though we all know totally a
matter of time before he's at the NHL on a
regular basis.

Speaker 1 (17:42):
Yeah, the contract thing.

Speaker 3 (17:43):
I don't know the exact figures, but I know only
so much money on NHL deals can be stored at Wilkes,
and if Graves goes back, that probably figures in as well.

Speaker 1 (17:52):
Although well, let me kind of jump in there.

Speaker 3 (17:55):
I think he's played okay after a real bad first
game after being summoned.

Speaker 1 (17:59):
Could he stay in the bottom pair, Sure he could.

Speaker 2 (18:04):
I mean, I can't believe I'm saying this, but I
think he's been their best player on the third pairing
left side quite Frankly, Owen Pickering clearly isn't ready. He
was horrible. They don't have many left handed defensemen in
general in the organization behind Brian Shay and Parker Watherspoon,
who have been exceptional, but that they need someone else there,

(18:26):
and I think Graves has played very well. He hasn't
been great, but he's been solid. He hasn't been a
goals against issue the way he has been the last
two seasons, and hey, maybe the new coaching staff has
something to do with that.

Speaker 3 (18:39):
Mark.

Speaker 2 (18:40):
Clearly, what we're seeing out of Eric Carlson is a
compliment to Dan Muse and his staff. He's a much
different better player this season. Maybe that will be true
of Graves. Now, I didn't see it in training camp.
I didn't particularly like what I saw from him, but
to his credit, I think he's played very good hockey
for the Penguins.

Speaker 3 (18:56):
See, here's what I'm thinking is kind of a convoluted out,
a left field notion. If you keep Graves, that means
you could send Jari in his contract to Wilkes. What
a morishof is a good enough to stick and B
I already know he's the best shootout goalie because he's
not Jari or shilloffs, because if they lose every shootout Josh,

(19:18):
they're not going to make the playoffs. And right now
I don't see either goalie ever winning a shootout.

Speaker 2 (19:25):
You're probably right, I just don't see them sending Jari
down right now though, because aside from the last game
that he played in Toronto, he's been pretty darn good
and I think they're aware of that. And I also
think there is still an element of not wanting to
rush Mirrorshovs, which I understand because we all see the
tantalizing talent that he is. And just talking with guys

(19:47):
in the locker room today after practice, by three or
four guys just unsolicited started talking about Jesus Mirishaw's unbelievable
like that. They are clearly very impressed with him, but
I still think they would like to get him more
starts in the AHL until he is one hundred percent ready.

Speaker 1 (20:04):
We're talking to Josh Joey live from Sweden.

Speaker 3 (20:06):
Josh, you're not at the Abbey Museum right now, are you?

Speaker 1 (20:09):
No?

Speaker 2 (20:10):
I believe it's closed as it's about a nine forty
pm in Sweden. I'm just roaming the streets of downtown
Stockholm as we speak.

Speaker 3 (20:17):
I kind of feel that that should be open twenty
four to seven. Staying with the shootout subject, the Bends
are finally practicing shootouts. Didn't do it at all under Sullivan,
first time under the new coach, and it's about time.

Speaker 2 (20:31):
It certainly is. It was funny they were on the
ice for a long time here on Tuesday when they
first arrived, like they had a forty five minute practice,
and we thought they were done with practice, and then
they practice shootouts for gosh, it had to be thirty
to forty five minutes. And I think it's about time
they start doing that at a more regular basis for
everybody involved. In By the way, the most impressive shooter

(20:53):
in the shootout was none other than eighteen year old
Ben Kendall.

Speaker 3 (20:57):
Yeah, they were in a stupid Viking helmet, that's right. Yes,
it's dumb, okay.

Speaker 2 (21:05):
But uh, Kendall. You know, a lot of times you
see these young guys come to the league that they
just have a way on the shootouts. It's been that
way for a long time. So I wouldn't be shocked
if we see him get an opportunity if indeed the
Penguins have a shootout soon. But yes, that practice was
still for the goaltenders more than anybody else, and she
loves more than anybody who has just been unbelievably bad

(21:25):
in the shootouts, which is a shame because otherwise he's
been very good. Marcus say percentage is nine to sixteen,
But you can't look that incompetent and shootouts all the time,
especially when you're a fringe playoff team like the Penguins
might be.

Speaker 1 (21:37):
Who's been the most surprising Penguins so far this year?

Speaker 2 (21:42):
Oh boy, Well he's hurt right now, But Justin Braso
is the first name that comes to mind. He's putting
up a point per game. Perhaps playing with the red
hot of Guiney Malkin had something to do with it,
but I think the pair of hands that that guy
has are legit. But other than him, I have to
look at mother Spoon and Shay. I mean, listen, we've

(22:03):
been talking all offseason about how horrible the left side
of the blue line is, and it hasn't been at
all because those two guys have an incredibly dependable and
they're playing with Carlson and Lapang respectively. That those are
not easy guys to play with at all, and yet
they have helped out the fort in very impressive fashion.
So I don't know where the Penguins to be without
those two, but they're a much better team because of

(22:25):
how they've played.

Speaker 3 (22:26):
I agree with all those picks, but I would also
throw in there Anthony Manta, because he's got eight goals
and he's recovered so well from that knee injury that
was major surgery less than a year ago. And I
would say Eric Carlson too, because for the first time
in this uniform, he's not mailing it in.

Speaker 1 (22:44):
We'll not mailing it in. That's a bad phrase.

Speaker 3 (22:46):
But he's not playing totally to his own satisfaction as
opposed to doing which right by the team.

Speaker 2 (22:52):
Oh No, he's been great. He's been their best defenseman
by far. He's looked like Eric Carlson. This is the Carlson,
but the ones hoped they were getting two and a
half years ago and that trade was made. So you're right.
And Manta is second on the team in goals. You know,
he's got eight goals, most of them coming even strength.
He clearly has a chemistry with malkoln They've been very
good together. And I like the fact that he dropped

(23:14):
the gloves the other day when he thought a liberty
was taken, whether it really was or not, they just
haven't had enough guys who would do that in the
last few years. I liked his hands up for his teammates,
that he's a big guy, and uh, yeah, he's been
really impressive.

Speaker 1 (23:28):
Uh who's been the most disappointing peng within so far?

Speaker 2 (23:32):
Boy, I can't say anybody's been all that disappointing on
this team so far.

Speaker 3 (23:36):
Mark, I'd say Brunick. I expected Brunick to at least
step in and be comfortable. I don't wrong. I'm not
blaming or bashing. I just I just hope for better.

Speaker 2 (23:49):
No, especially the way he looked in training camp. When
he looked like a star in training camp in the preseason,
so I think everybody's expectations went up a little bit.
But I he's been to his point. And if I
had to pick one other guy too, not that he
was ever going to be a great player, but Philip
Thomasino has been horrible and he's been benched numerous times.

(24:10):
And he's a guy who has certainly flashed some talent
and he did some good things last season. Boy, he
hasn't been good at all. Just a real problem.

Speaker 1 (24:18):
What's the reception like for the Penguin and Sweden? Is
this the big deal the NHL hopes for when they
do something like.

Speaker 2 (24:25):
This, I guess, I mean, I don't know how that
translates long term to growing the game. It's not like
the game isn't popular in Sweden already, but I can
tell you just walking around Stockholm and the last couple
of days, there are number eighty seven jerseys everywhere. Some
of those are people who have come from Pittsburgh. But
Sidney Crosby is a true worldwide star and he is

(24:48):
hugely popular in Sweden. You would think it would be
Eric Carlson all the big life sized posters around Stockholm,
but it's not. It's Sidney Crosby. That's who people really
want to see. And yeah, but he's into it. I
mean in both games are sold out immediately. Secondary ticket
sales are really really expensive if you want to get
in the building Friday or Sunday here in Stockholm. So

(25:10):
now it's been taken pretty seriously here. It does feel
like a big deal. People here are really excited about it.
I think especially because sid is here.

Speaker 3 (25:17):
Well is he the biggest star among the players from
both teams in Stockholm? Or is Carlson the bigger star
because he's Swedish?

Speaker 2 (25:25):
Sure feels like it's said to be honest, I mean,
Carlson isn't just from talking with a lot of the
Swedish reporters. This might seem silly because the National Predators
don't exactly moved the dial, But Philip Forsburgh is a
really big deal here. He's a Swedish guy, great player
and just really well liked tourist. I think Carlson, much
like in Pittsburgh, people kind of like Carlson here, but

(25:47):
he's still kind of a polarizing figure and he's not
from Stockholm. He's from a few hours away from here,
whereas Forstburgh's popular. But honestly, everybody wants to talk with Sid,
all the media here, all the fans that the team hostess,
hell like, that's who they're here to see. But by far,
I think.

Speaker 3 (26:05):
I see that Carl hagelwoods around. I would take him
in the bottom six right now.

Speaker 2 (26:09):
Oh boy? Yeah, could they ever use him? Nick Benino
behind the bench. Those two guys were once part of
a pretty nice line, as I recall, So yes, I
couldn't agree more. Uh.

Speaker 3 (26:20):
You mentioned on Nashville is not a very good team,
and they're not. I thought when they got Stamcos and
Marchiso a couple of years back that that could put
him over the top of Barry Trotz as a GM
isn't nearly as good as Barry trots the coach. And
that said, you've got to get at least three points
from this trip to Sweden, because the Penguins have been
traded sludge lately, not collapsing, but but dropping more points

(26:42):
than they're collecting. These town conference sucks, but it's tight.
You need points. You need to think about points all
the time when you're in a precarious peripheral situation like
the Penguins are.

Speaker 2 (26:55):
No, no question, Nashville is not very good. They're one
of the worst teams in the league. I would agree
the Penguins do need three out of four points over here.
And when I look at their schedule, they have a
pretty soft schedule for the next couple of weeks. I
know they've got home to Buffalo the night before Thanksgiving
home to Seattle the next weekend. They're not very good,
like there's a lot of really winnable games. I bring

(27:16):
that up because the Penguin schedule in December is an
absolute nightmare. They've brought trips to Tampa, Dallas, Toronto, Montreal,
Autowa where they never win. Really really hard schedule then,
so I think it's important for the Penguins to make
some hay in November with this fairly light schedule that
they have, and that starts with getting at least three

(27:39):
points this weekend, because obviously they're not in a tailspin,
but they haven't played as well the last week.

Speaker 3 (27:44):
I look at those Eastern Conference standings, which are packed
tight from one through sixteen, and I look at some
of the teams I thought would be good to suck,
some teams I thought would suck that are good.

Speaker 1 (27:54):
And I have no.

Speaker 3 (27:55):
Idea who's gonna wind up in the eight playoff spots
the season's end. But one thing I do tell the
Rangers stink in Toronto stinks, and I'm not sure either
is going to get a ton better.

Speaker 2 (28:07):
No, I agree, and I'm kind of interested in Washington too.
I don't think they stink, but I don't think they're
nearly as good as they were last year.

Speaker 3 (28:14):
I think they ran out of gas this year like
we thought they would last year, and the ode chase
of Gretzky adrenalized them.

Speaker 2 (28:22):
And oh we God blesshom He's accomplished everything there is
to accomplish. He doesn't look like the same player this
year either, But you're right that at the bottom of
the standings, though nobody in the East is truly terrible.
So you know, the Penguins are one five game losing
Stirk away from being at the bottom of the conference.
That that's how tight things are right now, and that's
why every point does matter. And it seems like every

(28:42):
single game is a three point game right now. I've
ever seen anything like it.

Speaker 1 (28:47):
What's happened with Toronto.

Speaker 3 (28:49):
My theory there is that Mitch Marner was their best
player and didn't know what Dili was gone.

Speaker 2 (28:55):
Well, they thought they could just let a guy go
who gets one hundred points every year and who a
great penalty killer. How many guys in the league can really.

Speaker 1 (29:03):
Do thatch and probably made Matthews.

Speaker 2 (29:06):
Yeah, I mean exactly, so they let him go. You know,
you don't replace him. That that's a real problem as
far as I'm concerned. And just from seeing the Maple
Leafs in person, boy are they slow. And that's one
of the slowest teams in the National Hockey League. You
can't win in twenty twenty five when you're slow. And
I'm not saying they won't recover, but I don't like

(29:26):
the looks of that team. I don't think it's any
lock that they're a playoff team, quite honestly, and old
Boy with a fallout in Toronto be something else if
that happens.

Speaker 1 (29:34):
What about the Rangers.

Speaker 3 (29:35):
I know Drewelry is not a good GM and I
think he'll have the axe fall on him first. But
Sully looks like a real bad fit there. Looks like
these guys just aren't buying in.

Speaker 2 (29:45):
I would agree. I'm speaking of teams that look slow
it to the Rangers. They're also one of the older
teams in the league. They've got a lot of guys
in their thirties, more than people realize. I'm not so
sure their window hasn't already passed. And I agree it
doesn't look like they're buying into what he's selling them.
That is a notoriously difficult locker room to deal with. Now.

(30:05):
One of Sully's strengths has always been dealing with difficult personalities.
Till Kesse will probably be in the ultimate example, though
I'm sure we're talking had something to do with that.
Sally can usually deal with big egos and get the
most out of them. He's not doing that in New
York right now, and then they played a little better lately.
I mean, they're still right in the thick of things,
but when you're talking about the eye tests, they fail

(30:27):
just about as bad as anybody in the East. Right now.
I really don't think they're a playoff team. I don't
discount them because of Shasturkin, as great as he is,
but I really don't like the looks of that team
at all.

Speaker 1 (30:39):
Did any Penguins go to the Abbey Museum any players?

Speaker 2 (30:44):
I didn't see any there, but I've been told Saturday
might be a possibility, and I'm gonna I'm gonna have
a chat with the captain tomorrow and let him know
that he needs to go if he hasn't yet. I
know he loves Sweden, but if you're going to enjoy
the Swedish experience, I don't know how you don't go
to the museum at least once.

Speaker 3 (31:01):
Anybody who doesn't go given the chances from Jerkwater, Canada
or wherever, and has no culture. What's what's the food
like there? The only Swedish food I've had is Swedish fish.

Speaker 2 (31:13):
The food's pretty terrible, actually, I will say the breakfast
food is magnificent, best pancakes I've ever had. The pastries
are great, the cinnamon rolls are great. Goes decidedly downhill
after that. They do pizza better than you might think.
The pizza in Italian is kind of a safe way
to go here. The actual traditional Swedish food, I can't

(31:33):
say is all that great.

Speaker 1 (31:35):
Well, here's two things I would recommend.

Speaker 3 (31:36):
The alcoholic beverage Glug and I'm not sure what's in it,
but a friend of mine I knew from hockey in Chicago.
His dad was a former professional player in Sweden. He
made glug and to put me on my ass a
bunch of times. Also, reindeer steak.

Speaker 2 (31:54):
Reindeer steak. Well, I'm here for a few more days,
so I will be trying out reindeer steak after I
go back to the Adam Museum once again.

Speaker 3 (32:02):
If it comes down to Santa delivering the toys or
me having a reindeer steak, break out the a one.

Speaker 1 (32:06):
Josh, good stuff, enjoyce Sweden, all right, see you Mark.

Speaker 3 (32:10):
That's Josh Hooey from the Athletic. We got Jim Florentine
at the top of the hour, the great comedian. He
has two shows locally over the weekend. Don't forget the
River Hounds are in the Eastern Conference Final. That's at
Heimark Stadium in Station Square on Saturday, and we have

(32:31):
Luke Biassi from the Hounds joining us in the five
o'clock hour.

Speaker 1 (32:35):
I'm Mark Madden one oh five nine. It's The Woody
Show weekday mornings at six.

Speaker 6 (32:40):
Of course, X Music on one The X The Long
Goodbye

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
