Speaker 1 (00:00):
This thing we brought to us by eighty four Humber.
Let's go over our good friend, who I'm sure will
pile on with interesting talk.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
He is the Hebrew hammer.

Speaker 3 (00:09):
Yak shamash, Hey, yuk shamash.

Speaker 4 (00:12):
Yeah, and our duty of courses were not as welcome.
But they can't afford to Funny enough, they kid has
all that money they don't want to pay. Let's call
it that to fire him and get a new coach
and pay him a buyout.

Speaker 1 (00:25):
Yeah, I mean, you're probably right, but that doesn't mean
I can't call for him to be fired because again,
everything that happened with that Notre Dame game, from him
opening his mouth to the way the game turned out,
to the garbage time touchdown after the stupid time out,
him being cold shouldered by Notre Dame's coach, Everything from
beginning to end about that Notre Dame game was an

(00:46):
embarrassment to pick.

Speaker 3 (00:49):
One hundred percent.

Speaker 4 (00:50):
Hey, what I called about was they said the refereeing
was bad. This play didn't have anything to do with
the end of the game. But it was a fourth
and one and the Steelers went for it, and they
look like they lost maybe half a yard, but they
gave him the first down, and the announcers couldn't believe it,

(01:11):
and even the guy from Washington, PA with the plumbing company,
he couldn't believe it either. So my question to you is,
how how does that happen? Like, how do the can
the referees just do whatever they want Gene's territory.

Speaker 1 (01:25):
Yeah, if you need janitorial supplies, he's the guy to
go to in Washington, PA.

Speaker 2 (01:29):
Yeah, they can't do whatever they want. I agree with you.

Speaker 1 (01:31):
I thought they clearly ignored to replay, if that makes sense.

Speaker 5 (01:38):
Yeah, they ignored the replay.

Speaker 3 (01:39):
And you know what's crazy is.

Speaker 4 (01:41):
Is that years ago people would be like, I don't know,
maybe people were betting on these games, But now you
see in the sports leagues, in baseball and basketball people
do so how could you not, like, I don't know,
your ear goes up a little bit?

Speaker 2 (01:55):
No, no, no question.

Speaker 1 (01:56):
With with gambling so pervasive and having their class sunk
into every resport, including college, you have to get every
call right via replay.

Speaker 2 (02:04):
Especially. There's no excuse because people then will wonder, hey.

Speaker 4 (02:09):
And lastly, here Washington, I would use him in the
second half because if you see the replay, he's.

Speaker 2 (02:17):
Stiff on the first guy.

Speaker 4 (02:19):
The second guy didn't even know if he wanted to
tackle him. He kind of like half tackled him.

Speaker 5 (02:24):
So I would use him to wear these teams down.

Speaker 4 (02:27):
That sounds crazy, but he can flick such pain, not.

Speaker 1 (02:31):
Just the first half, not just the second half. I'd
used him the whole game. Then again, he's so fat.
I mean, I'm fat, I can say that, but he's
so bulky. He wears down too, wouldn't you think.

Speaker 4 (02:42):
Well, he probably runs out of brown more than anything.
But the question is would you use him for the
fifth quarter show?

Speaker 2 (02:49):
That's your cue? Wharemy? I don't have a fifth quarter show?
I used to.

Speaker 1 (02:55):
I used to do that bootleg post game show on
ESPN twelve fifty by the way, breaking news and college football,
and I love it.

Speaker 2 (03:01):
God help me, but I do love it.

Speaker 1 (03:03):
So James Franklin, ex of Penn State, is the new
coach at Virginia Tech. Him and the acc with his
recruiting skills, He's going to be a force to be
reckoned with just about immediately, and Penn State will rue
the day they fired James Franklin overreacting to one bat

(03:24):
half season Terry Smith, nice guy, and not a head
coach ain't doing no better.

Speaker 2 (03:29):
Whoever they get won't do no better.

Speaker 1 (03:31):
Penn State just made a grievous error firing James Franklin.

Speaker 2 (03:36):
No question about that.

Speaker 1 (03:39):
Eight three to three four one two w xdx number
to call the next segment wide open for calls if
you want it to be Otherwise we'll just go to
the same old crap. Well, no, I'm always interesting. But
we were talking about the Will Howard thing earlier. Some
people of ocal minority think he should play, he should
get a shot.

Speaker 2 (03:58):
That's ridiculous. You're stupid.

Speaker 1 (04:00):
And if you think that, he's hardly taken any snaps
since he got drafted, he was hurt in camp, didn't
play any exhibition snaps, didn't even return to practice till
three weeks ago, and he's not ever going to beat
the guy.

Speaker 2 (04:13):
He's a six round pick. Yeah, Brady, I know.

Speaker 1 (04:16):
But here's an interesting stat I had my trip cal
Hm today and it applies to this. You Will Howard Marx,
whether you wanted to or not, of the thirty two
starting quarterbacks in the NFL twenty five got picked in
the first round, three more got picked in the second round.
That's twenty eight out of thirty two that were picked

(04:39):
in the first and second round. So you can talk
about Brady, you talk about rock Party. They are the exceptions.

Speaker 2 (04:47):
That prove the rule, that prove the rule.

Speaker 1 (04:51):
Mason Rudolph has earned the number two spot. I think
the Steelers would have been better off had he become
the starter when Ben retired at the end of the
twenty twenty one season and started from then till now.
They would have done better maybe, And I know for
sure they would not have done worse because Tomlin and
the Steelers have done nothing but mangle the quarterback positions

(05:14):
since been retired, and probably even for the last how
many years of Ben's tenure. And we can talk about
what I just said that Nardoozi should be fired. I
think he's an embarrassment to the university, never more so
than Notre Dame Week and the game itself. Also, Shador Sanders,
he sucks an he comment you people who want Howard

(05:36):
to play, look at what Shador did last night. A
guy who's considered to have a higher pedigree, a guy
who went around earlier, was thought to go in the
first round until he didn't. Man that draft for every
time it lies. There are hundreds of times it does not,

(05:57):
So get your calls in now. Dustin's stay on hold
will get you in a second. And we have Phil
Bork talking hockey at the bottom of the hour. It's
the Mark Maddens Show one oh five nine.

Speaker 6 (06:07):
Every weekday at ten am. Is Travis starting your birthday
commercial freight on one O five nine X from the.

Speaker 7 (06:14):
One oh five nine the X Traffic Center nine.

Speaker 1 (06:23):
We got Phil Bork in just a little bit talk
about the Penguins trip to Sweden. They play at home
Friday against Minnesota. That's their next game.

Speaker 3 (06:31):
Thought.

Speaker 1 (06:32):
The Penguins played great fundamental hockey in the.

Speaker 2 (06:35):
Four NIERO win yesterday.

Speaker 1 (06:39):
The lost Saturday, excuse me, Friday in overtime to the Predators.

Speaker 2 (06:44):
Not so much.

Speaker 1 (06:46):
But they're right in that playoff hunt a quarter of
the way through the season. The Penguin's got to break
when Jack use the Devil Star. He needed hands surgery
after a bizarre accident at a restaurant. Steak knife, broken glass,
screwing around, stupid, whatever it was that happened. He's out

(07:06):
a couple months at least, and New Jersey is good,
but their attack revolves around Jack Hughes at center. So
enjoy your steak. Got borkidt the bottom of the hour.
Let's go to Matt and Monroeville, Matt Murraysville. Rather, you're
on with Mark.

Speaker 8 (07:23):
Hey, Mark as somebody went to Penn State and WVU.
Watching Nardoozi bungle that Notre Dame game kind of gave
me a little bit of hope that things aren't going
to be so bad. But it's going to get so
much worse for him when Franklin goes down to Virginia
Tech and takes a bunch of those pen commits with him.

Speaker 2 (07:41):
I think.

Speaker 1 (07:42):
I think Virginia Tech's going to be the preeminent power
in the ACC under Franklin, and it won't take long.
I think it'll it'll take a couple of years. He's
one of the best recruiters in football period. At the
ACC level, which is a level below, He's going to
be incredible. He could get them to where Clemson was
not too long ago, no kidding.

Speaker 8 (08:02):
Yeah, But I also think he's also going to probably
more some of those ten State recruits that be committed
with him too.

Speaker 2 (08:08):
I think he might were some Penn State players to transfer.

Speaker 3 (08:13):
That's very possible.

Speaker 2 (08:14):
Yeah, no question.

Speaker 1 (08:15):
So uh in Nordouzzi, I mean I I can't imagine
playing for Nardouzzi. I can't imagine if I were a
parent wanting my kid to play for Nardozzi. He is
an execrable jackass. Let's go to dust and Dusty. You're
on with Mark.

Speaker 5 (08:31):
Ah yes, uh I yes, I don't agree with you
saying that Penn State shouldn't have fired Franklin. He's had
what ten eleven years to win a pir SE playoff
game against Ohio State.

Speaker 2 (08:44):
He won two playoff games last year.

Speaker 5 (08:46):
And you say the Steelers.

Speaker 2 (08:48):
He won two playoff games last year.

Speaker 5 (08:52):
Well again too, though they're not those aren't exactly?

Speaker 1 (08:55):
He won two playoff games last year. He got to
the final four last year. What n State shouldn't tolerate
one bad season? It was the first bad season he had,
and what's happened since indicates to me it was the team,
not just the coaching. That the players aren't very good
plus you and all are falling apart and then getting hurt.
You got to forgive a coach with Franklin's track record
one bad season.

Speaker 5 (09:17):
Well, Tomlin beats the Ravens once a year. They're a
playoff team.

Speaker 2 (09:21):
Yeah, good for Tomlin. Anything else.

Speaker 1 (09:25):
Nope, Yeah, I mean you're so full of crap on
every level. I mean, Penn State, it will turn out
they blew it, and the Steelers have blown up by
keeping Tomlin as long as they have. Just because the
similar the situations appear to be similar to you, they're
really not. Right now, though, I want to talk about
the bet Parks online casino and sportsbook. It's the only

(10:31):
you gotta be twenty one and in PA, New Jersey
or Maryland you got a gambling problem called one eight
hundred gambler. Next we talked penguins with Phil Bourke here
on one O five to nine.

Speaker 4 (10:42):
It's the Woody Show weekday morning six to ten one.

Speaker 2 (10:46):
The Well, the super genius Mark.

Speaker 5 (10:48):
Madden, Hey, Mark great show.

Speaker 1 (10:51):
When you got a young trophy white ohs money that
I can't even quote, the big o'bowski right, goodbye.

Speaker 6 (10:56):
Dx A one.

Speaker 1 (10:58):
Penguins are back after success full trip to Sweden three
out of four points. Joining me now color analysts for
the team, two times Stanley Cup champion, the old two
niner Phil bork Borky, How is Sweden?

Speaker 2 (11:10):
Did you go to the Abba Museum? I did not
go to the Avenueuseum.

Speaker 9 (11:16):
So yeah, I'm expecting I expected that, of course, But
to answer your question more specifically, it was tremendous. If
you ever get a chance, head on over. The people
are They're so friendly, they're so down to earth. Everybody
speaks English. The architecture was incredible. You just I mean
my neck is sore from just you know, seeing so

(11:39):
many different things. The old town there. You would absolutely
love Mark. I don't know if you've ever been to
kind of the old part of Montreal where they have
the cobblestone roads and of course European. Yeah, of course
that's that's where it was. But probably the highlight of
the trip, besides the hockey was the food. The food
was incredible. I dined it a couple of really nice restaurants.

(12:02):
I knew they were nice because the first place I
went to did was there with all the boys, and
then the next place I went to with Josh Yetzov
of getting Malkin rolled in with Archer Sheeloffs and Sergey Mershoffs.

Speaker 3 (12:15):
I know if Sidt and.

Speaker 9 (12:16):
Gina were picking those spots, they were a one and
they were off the charts.

Speaker 1 (12:20):
Could I loved the game yesterday, the four nierl win,
as evidenced by Morishoff got his first win and shut out,
but didn't have to work too hard. The Penguins managed
that early lead very intelligently.

Speaker 3 (12:33):
Yeah.

Speaker 9 (12:33):
I love the adjustments, not only the adjustments made by
their head coach Dan Muse as far as the lineup changes,
there was about seven different changes if you include the goaltender,
whether it's personnel in or out or more importantly, just
kind of the shuffling of the lines, and it just
seemed like all the pieces of the puzzle snapped into

(12:55):
place Mark and you're right, the details were back in
the Penguins game.

Speaker 3 (12:58):
They were doing everything with purpose.

Speaker 9 (13:00):
They're playing Morris five man units, they were fundly pucks
to the net, they were getting traffic in front of
the net, all the things that seemed to be lacking
in that first game. And I can't put my finger
on why it was lacking in the first game.

Speaker 3 (13:13):
I don't want to say it was nerves. I don't
want to say was traveled.

Speaker 9 (13:17):
Because Nashville had the same thing going on, and they
had an opportunity to get the full two points, and
you almost felt like, you know, the way they lost
the game in overtime with the Sam Coast blast that
you know, Josh Getzov's kind of said this, and I
had to agree with them that they kind of got
what they deserved, where yeah, you know, they they played
kind of good.

Speaker 3 (13:37):
Enough to get the point.

Speaker 9 (13:38):
They didn't certainly didn't play good enough to get the
full two points. And if they walked out of there
with the full two points, you felt like they probably
put a put a ski mask on.

Speaker 1 (13:49):
Yeah, it would have flattered to de See for sure,
But yesterday's game fully deserved victory for the Pens.

Speaker 2 (13:55):
Is it just me?

Speaker 1 (13:55):
Or is Ryan Graves after starting the year in Wilkes,
is he born again under Dan Muse in a more
basic system.

Speaker 2 (14:02):
Perhaps?

Speaker 3 (14:05):
I think so.

Speaker 9 (14:06):
I think it's a combination of yah system. But also
I just think he had a big old piece of
Humble Pie and I think it's given him back that
urgency in his game.

Speaker 3 (14:22):
And I think he's taken.

Speaker 9 (14:23):
A giant deep breath and exhaled and just simplified his games.
And he's just doing so many little things right and
even just getting involved physically. And I know, you know
that that moment when evangelist just Stick came up and
cut his lip, it was his own stick to hit him,
but it was you know, six foot five, two hundred
pounds defenseman Ryan Graves throwing his body around. And I

(14:47):
know it's not natural for him, but I think he's
realized that my team needs it at some level.

Speaker 3 (14:56):
It needs it.

Speaker 9 (14:57):
It doesn't have to be you know, a bruiser that
goes over the boards and thumps his chest. That's not
in his DNA, But one thing he has to find
and injected into his DNA is.

Speaker 3 (15:09):
A bit of a rough style of play because we.

Speaker 9 (15:12):
Don't have a lot of that on the back end.
And when you're given that size and the strength that
he has, I think he's got to reach down every
single game and pull that in some fashion out. And
I find that when he plays physical marks a lot.

Speaker 3 (15:27):
Of other things seem to line up.

Speaker 9 (15:28):
He's not the only player that's ever happened to It
just seems like whether it's between the ears or the
skates or the hands and everything working together. I think
when he plays physical, he's a much well rounded defenseman.

Speaker 2 (15:41):
I agree.

Speaker 1 (15:41):
I think it gets the adrenaline pumping and that always
leads to good things. And in that vein, I can't
get over Shay and Watherspoon and what they've done so far.
I never ever saw them as top four, but I
think each is a good fit for his partner and
that goes a long way.

Speaker 9 (15:58):
Yeah, A little tip of the cap to Kyle and
his crew to identify these guys with different organizations, where
Shay was with Dallas and Woldspoon with Boston and are
identifying that, you know, maybe these are not the best players,
but they could be the right players, right And you
know Shae being able to play with Tanger and woldesspoon

(16:23):
between those defense pairings, and you're right, they're not overwhelmed
by the amount of minutes because if you play with
Tanger or you play with Derek Carlson, you're going to
be north of twenty just because that's who your partner
is and that's how much he plays. But that you've
got at this point and we hit the quarter pole
this weekend, mark that you got two goals from each
of those guys as well as a few points. That's

(16:46):
bonus time, right, because they kill the penalties, they're physical,
they move the putt quick, they do all as you
mentioned that one's able to play with La Tang, the
other is able to play with Carlson. You factor in
all those things, you're like, what a bonus. It'd be
great to just have one of those guys, And now
that we have two of those guys, it's it's double bonus.

Speaker 1 (17:06):
You mentioned the lineup shuffling switching. Some of the combinations
are on. I loved Kevin Hayes with Gino and Mansa
with Razoot, Go Bigger, Go Home, stay big in this case.
And and Gino he really fits in with those big guys,
doesn't he.

Speaker 3 (17:23):
Yeah?

Speaker 9 (17:23):
Amen, brother, And you know hazy, he's you know, Gino
isn't the guy that a lot of times initiates the
conversation on the ice or on the bench. And Anthony
manthis kind of a reserved guy. And so I think
it's healthy for Gino to have a chirpy guy. And
that's what Kevin Hayes is. So that's kind of the
intangible part. But the more you know, obvious parts that

(17:47):
you're talking about. He's got size, he's got skilled. Yeah
he's not lightning quick, but he makes up with it
with his hockey smarts. And so yeah, I like that.
I also like Connor dr up with sit because nobody
else seemed to fit real well, I know kindle at
the beginning. But I think we'll both agree Mark that
Ben Kendall plays his best hockey in the three C

(18:09):
right's center.

Speaker 2 (18:11):
He needs to play in the middle.

Speaker 3 (18:13):
Yeah, right, right, And so it was great.

Speaker 9 (18:15):
We had fun, you know, the first couple of games
up with Sid yippie y aha. But in the meantime
you get him back where he's number one natural position
and number two natural place puzzle piece on this team,
and everything seemed to fall into place. And I like
the job that Connor do It did. He's got a
little bit of a Chris Kunitz and a Pascal Daplee.

(18:38):
Maybe not to finish, but he's good enough. I think
until he can get Ricard kel back in the lineup,
I think Connor Doer can do a lot of the
little things that can help Sid and Rusty keep on
keeping us.

Speaker 2 (18:53):
We're talking to the old two nine or here on
the X.

Speaker 1 (18:56):
How about the PK lately four out of four yesterday,
thirteen out of fourteen over its last five games.

Speaker 2 (19:02):
Who have been to catalysts there, BORKI.

Speaker 9 (19:06):
The first person I think of is blake O's ott,
you know, especially with no Lachari, you know, somebody had
to step up. Connor do has blocked more shots than
I think any of us realize in kind of a
quiet way. And then you throw Rusty out there, you know,
I just think that it's all hands on deck and

(19:27):
the defense, even putting Eric Carlson out on the power play.
I don't know if there was much of a conversation
or I think it's just, you know, almost by us mosis,
you know, like he'll figure it out. Like we're going
to put them in that position because he's you know,
paid like a top defenseman, and we're not going to
shy away from it. We're not going to insulate you

(19:48):
and just sit you on the bench in the PK.
We're going to kind of force feed you a little
bit here. And I think that Eric has responded to
that a bit of a challenge, whether it's verbal or
non verbal, whatever it is. I think Eric Carlson is
raised this game.

Speaker 3 (20:00):
And you mentioned why this boon. You mentioned Shay.

Speaker 9 (20:03):
You know, those guys have really stepped the game up
on whether it's winning puck battles, puck retrieval, and I
think probably the most important thing that's been lacking in
the last few years is clearing that net front. Right
the net front presence we hear about so much in
the offensive zone for the Penguins, I think it's been
more important in the defensive zone having a net front

(20:23):
prince presence. And I think that Shay and Roldespoon and
now Graves have brought you.

Speaker 2 (20:28):
More of that.

Speaker 1 (20:29):
Yeah, and one last thing about carl on the PK two,
I was surprised when when mus decided to try it.
But one thing he's brilliant at. Carl's great on clears,
and I think that's an underrated science. I don't remember this.
Borky Dan Bogen used to analyze clears like where the
clear was most likely to be, how you could do
it blind like you sometimes got to do on the PK,

(20:50):
and where the good spots would be. I think Carlson
has that instinct for where the open ice is to clear.

Speaker 9 (20:57):
Yeah, and the common denominator there is dann Us and
Dan Bosma are kind of both, you know PK specialists.
You know Bosma when he played that, I mean that's
why he played in the National Hockeyague. He was so
good at blocking shots and killing penalties and doing all
that grunt work. And a big part of that is,
you know, taking a hit to make a play to

(21:18):
get first to the puck and get it down two
hundred feet right, And you're right, I think Barrick Carlson, listen,
he's not He's not built to be a bruising guy
and take a lot of physical contact and he knows that,
and so to survive in that environment, he's got to
use his great wheels and instincts and quick feet to
get the loose pucks. So that's part A right of

(21:38):
the equation. Part B is what you were just talking about,
of finding the lane, whether it's off the glass, right
the defense, and that's trying to hold his own to
shoot it right, his teeth, whatever it takes to get
it down two hundred feet and more times than not,
when Carlson gets that puck on his stick on the PK,
it's going down.

Speaker 1 (21:56):
Now you've got three games at home against struggling teams.
You got to get five points at least. It's time
to make Kbarki.

Speaker 3 (22:03):
No. And you just look at the month of November.

Speaker 9 (22:04):
I mean that was the Penguins win on the other
night was only the second win in the month of November.

Speaker 3 (22:10):
So you have a great opportunity here.

Speaker 9 (22:12):
You got a few days off and then you get
the back to back home games against Minnesota and Seattle.

Speaker 3 (22:17):
You're right, very winnable.

Speaker 9 (22:18):
And then you got Buffalo and you got Columbus, right
very winnable. And then you finish off the month with
a Saturday night home game against Toronto, which you know
will always be rockets, right, And so that's that's your
month of November. So a lot on the table, and
I think the Penguins have realized enough is enough here.

Speaker 3 (22:35):
We're we're not.

Speaker 9 (22:36):
Looking for you know, moral victories or you know, Mormon
fuzzy games and moments.

Speaker 3 (22:41):
We want points.

Speaker 9 (22:42):
We want to keep going up the ladder. This is real,
this is tangible. In the locker room, they're feeling that mark.
They know they have something special. They know they have
the injection of youth and multiple layers. They have depth
guys that can actually play and contribute, whether it's in
the goaltender position or throughout the lineup. They realize we've
got to keep piling up points and chasing down with

(23:03):
the devils. I heard you talk about Jack Hughes Carolina.
You know they're going to be there.

Speaker 3 (23:07):
But all of a sudden, you've got.

Speaker 9 (23:09):
What four or five teams all scrunched in now by
four points, and the Penguins are one of those teams,
the top of all those teams, and very winnable games
to finish off the month of November. And it didn't
start very good, but the Penguins have a great chance
to finish it really good.

Speaker 1 (23:26):
And I got to stick with the Metro Division for second,
because while I hate to draw conclusions after just twenty games,
New Jersey's whole attack revolves around Jack Hughes and their
power play too. With him out for two months, that's
going to hurt a great deal. I'm not saying the
New York Rangers are done, but I know what done
looks like, and it looks like them. I think washes

(23:48):
out of gas without the adrenaline of OVI chasing Gretzky.
I think there's a lot of things that could be
done in this division, and if the Penguins arrive earlier
than we expected, I'm okay with that.

Speaker 9 (24:00):
Yeah, so am I as long as we don't end
up in the muddy middle, right. I mean, if if
you're gonna do this, let's go, and you know, it'll
make for some hard decisions, you know, whether it's you know,
during the Olympic break or more importantly, at trade deadline
day in March. I think if if Gino and Sit

(24:21):
they're going to continue to play like this, we get
healthy again with Brezo and Raquel, I just would love
to see them make a run and at least get
into the playoffs because you almost feel like, especially for Gino, right,
you feel like, not not that he doesn't need to
make a statement, but I think for his personal pride

(24:42):
with not knowing what next year holds, I think he
he doesn't want that game number eighty two to come
and then just be sitting in a stall in half
his gear on, just kind of staring off into space.
I don't think he wants that, And I think he's
realized that's a lot realer than it's ever been, and
so I want to make sure I do something about it.

(25:03):
So if this is the last year as a Pittsburgh Penguin,
I'm gonna make it a memorable one.

Speaker 1 (25:07):
And I think dude is trying stuff we haven't seen
him do. BORKI he's like the two bank shot goals
in Sweden? How often has Gino even tried that? From
behind the net? Usually it has to be like a Picasso.
But now he's settling, and settling sounds like a bad things,
but sometimes it's not.

Speaker 9 (25:25):
Yeah, we allow me to throw simplifying in with your
settling exactly. I think that's right, that's where it is,
and you're right sometimes you know, from up top, we
kind of look at each other and just be like
you know why is he trying to do that? And
we do know if we know Geno like I know,
you know him, a lot of the mistakes he makes,
it's because he cares too much and he tried to

(25:46):
do too much on his own. I think he's now
trusting his teammates. He likes his linemates, and I think
that the new voice and the respect that he has
for his new head coach, Dan Muse, I think that
whether it's saying the same thing and it's just a
different voice, it's premeated with a Guinea Malkin, and he

(26:07):
simplified his game.

Speaker 3 (26:09):
He's got He.

Speaker 9 (26:10):
Just looks in shape, he looks like there's joy back
in his game, and maybe that's helping energize him.

Speaker 3 (26:16):
Whether it's the new head coach, whether it's.

Speaker 9 (26:19):
The new linemates, whether it's the young players that are
on this team that are helping, you know, lighten the
load for the guys that are thirty eight and thirty nine,
whatever it is, check all those boxes. As Guinea Malkin
just seems energized and just as having a blast playing
hockey for the Pittsburgh Prangments.

Speaker 2 (26:37):
What was your beverage of choice in Sweden, BORKI.

Speaker 9 (26:42):
I had a couple of cold beers, but I really
went with the wine.

Speaker 3 (26:50):
And that was about it. I'll tell you the one thing.

Speaker 9 (26:52):
I mean, there's a different kind of beverage that you
think you were talking about, but the coffee's over there.

Speaker 3 (26:57):
I don't know what it was.

Speaker 2 (26:58):
Italy too, it's the same thing.

Speaker 1 (27:00):
Yeah, the European coffees in a particular Sweden and like
I said, Italy are unbelievable.

Speaker 9 (27:05):
Yeah, you just felt like in a lot of it
leans into the espresso right where you drink less, but
we get more of what we're looking for from our
coffee here in the US.

Speaker 3 (27:16):
Right.

Speaker 9 (27:16):
That's a little bit of joke because we're all walking
around like zombies, sleep, depride, right, So that's mostly why
we drink coffee right over there, you know, there's nothing,
it's nothing to drink, you know, five or six espressos
in the middle of the day, just to kind of
give you that ooms that you're looking for.

Speaker 1 (27:31):
One last thing working because it applies to the Steeler
game yesterday.

Speaker 2 (27:34):
Did anybody ever spit on you during your career?

Speaker 3 (27:38):
No, but I spit on Adam Graves.

Speaker 2 (27:40):
You did. Oh, that's good. Was it ever he broke
marios and it.

Speaker 9 (27:44):
Was the first game back. It was the only time
I ever did in my career. At the you know,
I kind of wasn't proud of it, but at the moment,
I was proud of it because you know, that's when
Scotty Bowman looked us all in the eye right before
that first game, because you remember he missed the game,
but then when he came back, No, he actually played

(28:06):
the first game, and then he missed the second game
after breaking back.

Speaker 2 (28:10):
He got suspended after the fact, which was weird.

Speaker 9 (28:12):
After the fact that he actually played the game. But
Scotty Bowman walked around the room and said, nobody, nobody
touch him. We're just gonna win the game, win the series,
and move on. So I was like, the hell with that.
And so this is when there was only one referee
and when he wasn't looking, I hawked a big old
luber right in his face. And you know, it's the
only time I ever did it. But you have to agree, Mark,

(28:34):
I don't know how many things in the NHL or
all sports is more disrespectful than that.

Speaker 1 (28:40):
Well, I can't endorse what you did, Borky, but I
do appreciate the target. Great stuff, and we'll do it
again next week.

Speaker 3 (28:46):
Sounds good double, I'm enjoyed that time together. This was
good duck talk.

Speaker 1 (28:50):
That's Phil Bork and by the way, Jamar Chase suspended
for a game for spinning at Jayalen Ramsey. We'll talk
about that more in just a second, but that is
breaking news here on one oh five nine the x

Thanks to BORKI not time to ask Mark Anything. Brought
to us by People's Hyphengas dot Com. I'm going to
see John five tonight, who was on the show last week.
He said, Juggles, if you see me, don't talk to me. Well,
you can talk to me, just not while the music's playing.
Then definitely don't talk to me. My buddy Fab five
Freddy will be there too, Freddy Kowalo, Nikki Six's base

tech who's a local guy. So I'm looking forward to
checking out five and Richie Cotton up in Jurgles this evening.

Speaker 2 (30:10):
If we're just tuning in.

Speaker 1 (30:11):
The breaking news is Jamar Chase got suspended a game
for spitting at Jalen Ramsey. But Jalen Ramsey apparently did
not get suspended for punching Jamar Chase. I would much
rather be spat upon than punched, but hey whatever, it's
the macho thing. There's nothing worse than spitting on somebody,
at least that's what the popular opinion seems to be

(30:34):
locally today. Again to repeat, I don't get the outrage
over spitting. It's saliva, not battery acid. Ramsey should have
walked away and finished helping his teammates win. People talk about, oh,
it's so degrading, Well, there's lots of stuff that's more degrading.
I can only refer to the popular Brawser series. Hey

(30:54):
that's my wife, you guys cuckholding multiple participants, wide angle shots,
spit roast, fingercuffs. It's really not too bad and nobody
spits well, I mean they do, but that's not the
focal point. But good to Tom and Franklin Park Tom
ask Mark anything.

Speaker 7 (31:14):
Hey Mark, I'm a big Liverpool and Riverhounds fan too,
and I had a questions for you about the deep
run Riverhounds are making right and I'm wonder of them.
Might be about coach Lily his maybe his tactics and demeanor.

Speaker 1 (31:30):
Have no idea how they changed things. I know that
the coach now, whose name, what's the coach's name now.

Speaker 3 (31:37):
I can't even remember.

Speaker 2 (31:38):
I'll top in my head, well that doesn't speak well
from the job he's done.

Speaker 1 (31:42):
But but yeah, you know that. I don't think they've
changed tactics. I think they might. I mean, you can.
I heard somebody on Serious XM sayt Rob Vincent is
the interim coach, good player for the Hans.

Speaker 2 (31:53):
A while back.

Speaker 1 (31:54):
I heard somebody on on Serious XM saying they've opened
their tactics up, but they have one goal in three
playoff games, so I'm not sure that's true.

Speaker 2 (32:02):
Thank you for the call. Let's go to a talkback Hey, Mark,
did you ever go to a Flyers game in their
house and sit in the stands.

Speaker 1 (32:13):
I've never gone to a Flyers game in Philadelphia sat
in the stans. No, always in the press box. Why
would I be scared? Hell, I'd go there wearing one
of my Flyers T shirts. Well, I'd get a hoodie.
Made I look better in hoodies. Let's go to a talkback.

Speaker 7 (32:28):
Hey Mark, just curious what you thought of the Shrek
movie franchise.

Speaker 1 (32:32):
Thanks, have never seen even one Shrek movie, which makes
it in line with most movie franchises. Franchises generally don't
interest me.

Speaker 10 (32:42):
Let's go to a talkback super genius Eric in Toledo. Hey,
want to know your thoughts on the band Breaking Benjamin.
I actually liked some of their earlier stuff about fifteen
sixteen years ago, but I haven't heard much from him since.

Speaker 2 (32:55):
But did you ever like them?

Speaker 10 (32:57):
What were your thoughts on them?

Speaker 3 (32:58):
Thanks?

Speaker 2 (32:59):
As a bit and on the X playlist. I do
like Breaking Benjamin.

Speaker 1 (33:02):
Yeah, like you said, their best stuff was how many
years ago? But every band I liked? Their best stuff
was how many years ago? But I saw them live once.
I was impressed, actually more impressed by their live performance
than their output on vinyl. But yeah, I mean they're
not a bit I'm going to travel to see, but
if they're in Pittsburgh.

Speaker 2 (33:21):
I will go see him.

Speaker 1 (33:22):
Good drum sound, really good drum sound, both on record
and live, really just bang good drum sound.

Speaker 2 (33:30):
Let's go to a talk back.

Speaker 9 (33:31):
And mark DK Metcalf has six penalties called against them
this year and six drop passes.

Speaker 2 (33:36):
That's one negative play a game.

Speaker 3 (33:38):
Why don't think there's more emphasis on all of his penalties.

Speaker 1 (33:44):
I think DK Metcalf's been a disappointment by any definition
of that word. Although Matt Williamson brought up a good
point when he was on the show earlier. He said
that we think of DK Metcalf as a number one receiver.

Speaker 2 (33:57):
He said that Metcalf's just a level below.

Speaker 1 (33:59):
He pointed out, and rightly, I believe that there's only
about ten or twelve legitimate number one receivers in the NFL,
guys like Justin Jefferson and Ceedee Lamb, et cetera. And
that we tend to think that every team has a
number one receiver, but most don't, and the Steelers don't
because DK Metcalf ain't. It now is he handicapped by

(34:20):
they're not really being a true number two receiver. Absolutely
he is, but I don't think that excuses the drops
or the penalties.

Speaker 2 (34:29):
And maybe that's about it.

Speaker 1 (34:30):
You tell me, who would you add to that list?

Speaker 3 (34:35):
I would think, well, I would.

Speaker 8 (34:38):
Probably say in New Jersey because of their youth.

Speaker 1 (34:42):
Uh No, they could beat New Jersey because of their youth,
and plus New Jersey they might have trouble making the
playoffs with the two months still be crippled by this
Jack Hughes injury. Thank you for the call up. Neck's
going to talk to Tim Bens from the trip.

Speaker 2 (34:54):

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
