Speaker 1 (00:00):
As I mentioned a little earlier, the Anti Independent this
morning are revealing more posts which reportedly contained misogynistic, homophobic
and extreme right political posts on social media. The Minister
Brent Potter has shared or liked in addition to post
shared yesterday, including one containing a derogatory slur against gay people,

(00:21):
another that's promoted toxic masculinity, and a number of them
having a crack at the Labor Party. Now joining us
on the line is the Independent member for Ara Lun
Robin Lambley. Good morning to you, Robin, Good morning Katie Robin.
What do you make of these posts?

Speaker 2 (00:38):
Well, they're horrific and I just cannot see that this
man has a future as a minister or as any
part of the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly. These posts were
put up over quite a long period of time, about
six or seven years twenty thirteen to twenty nineteen, so

(01:03):
there was a systemic and he was an adult. Like
people are seemed to excusing him in part because he
was a young person, but he was. It was between
the ages of twenty five and thirty one that he
put up these racist, homophobic and misogynistic posts. So look,

(01:28):
he has to own up he has to take full responsibility,
and like the former Chief Minister, he has to fall
on his thought. I just cannot see any alternative because otherwise, Katie,
it's going to impact on them all. I mean, he's
deeply offended three quarters of his team who are women,
who are Aboriginal and who are gay, and that makes

(01:50):
up most of those people in the Labor Caucus.

Speaker 1 (01:55):
Robin, I mean, how do you think the remainder of
the Labor Caucus would be reacting to these these posts
and what he's put on social media over the years.

Speaker 2 (02:04):
Well, I think they'd be very, very disappointed at the least.
I mean, he's not only offended them morally, ethically and
very personally, but he's also put their entire team in
a very bad position going into the election. He came
out just last week and gave us all a wonderful

(02:27):
speech about how there's no place for racism in Northern
Territory politics in Parliament, how he is appalled by it all,
and here he is a week later being found to
have put up multiple posts over multiple years. I mean,

(02:47):
it's not just a sort of off thing or a
case of a one off case of bad judgment. Years
ago The most recent posts were as Reasons twenty nineteen.

Speaker 1 (03:01):
Apparently, So, Robin, I don't disagree with you. I don't
disagree with you. I mean I think when you're posting
homophobic things, when you're posting, if you're sharing racist things,
I don't agree with it. I wouldn't do it either.
But I am going to say, you know, from twenty
years ago, ten years ago, like I would like to think,
I haven't shared anything that will come back to bite me.

(03:23):
But you know, and I never use the end word.
I never call people, you know, I never say derogatory
things towards people that are homosexual. But my views might
be very different to Joe blows down the street. So
I mean, are we all sort of at risk here
of something that we've maybe shared ten years ago coming
back to bite us.

Speaker 2 (03:44):
Well, potentially, but we have to live with that, Katie.
And when you're an adult, and he was twenty five
when he first started putting these posts up, you have
to take responsibility for your actions, whatever they may be,
and if things come back to bite you, then so
be it. We're not just talking about any Joe blogs.
We're talking about the Minister the Northern Territory Minister for Police,

(04:07):
the Northern Territory Minister for Police, having a substantial history
of posting highly offensive posts on his Facebook page. Look,
there's no way out of this for him, and I
just cannot see how his colleagues consider in the same
chamber as him. He is a disgrace, He has disappointed

(04:28):
himself and his team and he has to go.

Speaker 1 (04:31):
Robin, how do you think the actual Labor Party is
going to respond to this, right, because obviously we're talking
about the Labor Caucus, which is the team that sits
up there in Parliament. But how do you think the
rest of the party is going to respond to this
whole situation?

Speaker 2 (04:48):
Well, though they will feel completely conflicted, confused. They've probably
spent the last forty eight hours thinking trying to come
up with creative ways of rescuing him him, looking at
every single alternative there is to sacking him, what the
implications are to sacking him, And don't forget, in the

(05:09):
last sittings we installed a new speaker. Darren Young is
the new speaker, the most inappropriate person probably in the
chamber if become speaker, because there's no one else. And
at the time I said, well, it's possible. There'll be
another reshuffle in a couple of weeks and there'll be
another speaker put in there if he's having to be

(05:31):
promoted into a minister's position. All these things are now
back on the table. Another reshuffle, another new minister appointed,
all these changes just months out from an election, and
the lasting labor needs well, it's.

Speaker 1 (05:46):
The last thing the Northern territory needs. It's the last
thing territory ins need. And Robin just to share a
couple of couple of messages that I'm receiving this morning,
because we're getting a real mixed bag here. There's one
here that says, slow New Tuesday, Katie, what an absolute
croc of shit social media from over a decade. Give
us a break, Katie. No one cares. I mean, that's

(06:09):
one of the messages that I've got here. Another one that.

Speaker 2 (06:12):
He isn't over a decade. These he was continuing to
post these offensive posts right up until twenty nineteen. That's
only four or five years ago or five years ago,
rob another one started.

Speaker 1 (06:24):
Another one I've got here from Sam. It says, hey, Katie,
how are you? I'm not really keen on all this
attacking politicians, pass or these shares. I just want the
politicians to get on with their jobs and making it
safe for us territorians and making youth have consequences for
their actions.

Speaker 2 (06:42):
Look, I couldn't agree more with this guy that guy.
But you know, this could all be cleared up, so
when we all found up to Parliament on Tuesday morning,
it's all done and dusted. Pot is not there, We've
got a new person in as police Minister, and life
goes on. It's the last thing I want to do
is spend my time talking about some idiot that puts

(07:02):
up these offensive posts and upsets everyone in the territory
and beyond. I mean, it's just embarrassing. It's more shameful
stories about the NT politicians talking about politicians. It really
is quite unacceptable. Who would step in?

Speaker 1 (07:18):
I mean, who would step in as the police minister?
Because to me, if he goes, the only acceptable option
here is the Chief Minister evil all stepping in as
the police minister.

Speaker 2 (07:28):
Yeah, you're probably right. I did think Kate Warden. I mean,
she's a worn out old police minister who they got
rid of a few months back. They could bring her
back in I mean, desperate times, Katie. But you know,
we're not desperate enough to have someone with this sort
of history remain in the job. Territorians deserve better and

(07:50):
we really aren't at the point where we need a
person with this sort of history sitting in a top job.

Speaker 1 (07:56):
Robin, what do you reckon's going to happen at nine
p forty five this morning when he fronts the media.
I mean, do you think he's going to step down?

Speaker 2 (08:05):
Well, he's as bold as brass, he's a smooth talker,
he's got an answer for everything. He's a liar. He
hasn't told the truth about who he is and what
he is in his history. He will try, probably desperately
to further dismiss it and try and pin it on
something else or someone else. I'd imagine he probably won't
step down. But from where I'm sitting, I think Evil

(08:28):
Laula has one option, and that is to just get
rid of him, delete him completely from the Parliament, from
the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly.

Speaker 1 (08:35):
Robert, I don't know if they're in a situation where
they can at this point, Hey, so close to the election.
I'm not saying, you know, stay on his minister, but
what do they do asked him from the party, and
then we wind up like you know, people are getting
to the point now where they're like, we'd rather go
to an election early.

Speaker 2 (08:51):
Well, that just won't happen. That's the government's decision. But
don't forget over the years, Labor have got rid of
four of them men for doing a lot less than this,
Mark Turner for his sex scandal, sex cocaine scandal alleged.
And then you had the three amigos. You had Kenny

(09:12):
Vows and Scotty McConnell and what's his name, I can't
think of his name, Jeff Collins, all thrown out on
their ears because they upset Michael Garner. I mean, they
did nothing like this. They learning Apart from Mark, there's
a question over what happened there. But the other three,

(09:33):
all they did was upset poor little Michael Gunner. He
threw his toys out and threw them out as well.
Look at this bloke, he's offended. All in sundry, it's
all in black and white. It's all been uncovered. He
tried to hide it all. He dumped his posts and
never never put his hand up and took responsibility for
years of these posts. It really is quite incredible. And look,

(09:57):
you know Labor said they wouldn't do this. I think
they're proving to be more disreputable than the formacy or
p government.

Speaker 1 (10:06):
Well, tell you what we have got. We've got so
many messages coming through and there's a real mix bag,
but a lot of people saying the trouble is Polly's
not getting on with their jobs. And you know, people
are pretty upset I think at the moment in terms
of as we have been for such a long period
of time when it comes to issues like crime. You know,
you've spoken at lengths about those issues in Alice Springs

(10:29):
this week. Up here in the top end, you know,
we've seen kids as young as seven years old involved
in the mugging of an eighty one year old woman.
You know, that's the kind of stuff that we are
absolutely concerned about it at this point in time.

Speaker 2 (10:45):
But as the police minister, we're talking about the police
minister here. You're absolutely right. I couldn't agree with you
more And that's more reason why it needs to go.
Crime is the number one problem front and center of
people's minds and for this blow to be sorting it
out on our behalf is just not going to work anymore.

Speaker 1 (11:00):
Well, Robin Lamley, I always appreciate your time. Winning you're
back on Monday.

Speaker 2 (11:06):
Yep, I'm doing Monday all right.

Speaker 1 (11:08):
We will talk to you when you're in town. Thank
you so much for your time this morning. Thank you,
