Speaker 1 (00:00):
From the Mercedes Benz Interview Lounge.

Speaker 2 (00:02):
Just speaking with Alessia Kara, who's here. By the way,
Alessa first started visiting our show when she was around
eighteen years old.

Speaker 1 (00:12):
Yeah, yeah, even though not toddler status, it was it
was ten years ago. Yeah, I can't believe it. I
can't believe it's been this long. And thanks for having
me back.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
Well, thanks for being had I guess, but no problem
you and asked Gandhi asked Daniel, You're one of my
all time favorite guests because you're just so real and
your light is bright and you can sing too. There's
there's artistry as well.

Speaker 1 (00:38):
Thank you.

Speaker 2 (00:39):
So obviously we're celebrating Valentine's Day with your new album
Love and hyperb Hyperbole. Yeah, it's a tough one, she said,
say hyper Bowl.

Speaker 3 (00:48):
See now so.

Speaker 1 (00:51):
Many people say hyper Bowl.

Speaker 2 (00:52):
It's funny this album. I thought this album was coming
out months ago, so did I. What happened?

Speaker 1 (00:59):
No, no, no, it was it was my choice. It
was my choice. Okay, sorry, what were you gonna say?

Speaker 2 (01:03):
Well, what happened?

Speaker 1 (01:05):
What happened is that I just wanted to kind of
just like I realized it was going a little fast
and I wanted to just let these songs breathe a
little bit, because I've been sitting on this music for
about three years now. So I just felt like I
didn't want to like go onto the next thing and
go into the next thing in order to just rush
the album. Like even though I was excited, I was like,
if I waited three years, maybe let me just push
it to the new year, give these songs like a

(01:26):
chance to breathe before I just like pump out stuff
just so they just have their own little moment and
I can like take my time. So that's why we
pushed it. But it actually fell perfectly because you know
it's called love and hyperbole. It falls on Valentine's Day.

Speaker 2 (01:39):
How many tracks fourteen.

Speaker 1 (01:41):
Tracks, and it's fourteenth of February, so laring.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
Dip it is, you see a lot of people are
in traffic going to work right now, to work for
an accounting agency or sales department somewhere, and they have
quotas to me, they have deadlines. To me. The great
thing about being an artist, obviously you've hooked up with
a company that it's like, she's an artist. Maybe we
wanted an album in October, but she needs to let
it breathe. She needs to work with it and sit

(02:07):
with it for a while. Okay, let's let her do that.
And aren't you happy that they were like, cool, Okay,
do what you want to do. Yeah, I think so.

Speaker 1 (02:14):
I think they were also probably happy about it too.
Everybody likes to have more time, right like, just to
like get things sorted, you know. So it was good
I think for everybody just to like figure things out
and to just, I don't know, just like have people
sit with it. I think we rushed things too much,
Like you know, especially in pop music, it's very like okay, next, next, next,
and this music that you take years to work on
just like goes so fast, and I don't know, I

(02:36):
just I like for it to just have a little
bit of time to float around before we move on
to the next.

Speaker 4 (02:41):
Did you did you change anything about it in those
months or did you just sit with it?

Speaker 1 (02:45):
No? No, I just sat with it. I just yeah,
I just had.

Speaker 2 (02:48):
Just stared at it from across the road.

Speaker 1 (02:50):
Yeah, yeah, stared at it on my phone, just waiting
for it to come up here. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (02:54):
And you know, there's a lot of love. There's a
lot of love. Love tracks love thoughts and lyrics.

Speaker 1 (03:00):
Oh wait, is it from real life love? Yes, but
also a bunch of different facets of love. There's of
course a little bit of romantic love in there, but yeah, hatred, divorce, yeah,
divorce trial, No there, you know, there's like familial love, friendship,
love even like I talk a lot about self love
and just like looking at life in a different way too.

(03:22):
I think, you know, it's kind of a bit of everything,
all the facets of love. Yeah, and hyperbole and hyperbole, yes, hyperbole,
hyper You know your music.

Speaker 2 (03:32):
It's funny interesting anyway how an artist's music evolves with
them if you're true to your heart and honest and
out there artist, not afraid to show your emotions this
and that. So if this album Love and Hyperbole is
actually talking about you and your life? Is it in
the past, is it current? Is it in the future?

(03:54):
Is it when you hear these songs you're thinking, oh,
that was a great song then when I wrote it
and saying it, But now I'm off to a whole different,
different life, Like where are you with this album? Same lane?

Speaker 1 (04:06):
I think, honestly, like the first I tried to make
this album as chronological as possible, and so it starts
off a little bit sadder, you know, and it's it's
kind of about my journey, for lack of a better word,
through just like a hard time and learning to find
joy and and learning to reshape pain in different ways.
So I think that's, you know, thankfully I'm at, you know,

(04:27):
the second half of the album, I think now where
I've learned a lot and I feel a lot happier
than I was when I first started. So some of
those songs on the early side of the track list
I kind of can look back on with a different view.
But also like it's interesting how things kind of pop
back up into your life and develop new meanings, Like
I have songs that I listen back to now that
mean something totally different.

Speaker 2 (04:48):
Give me an example, Like give me the song example
you're thinking of right now.

Speaker 1 (04:51):
I'm thinking of, honestly, a song called Subside, which is
about not to get too dark, but like anticipatory is
is that a word anticipatory grief? You know, because I
tend to be a person who like grieves moments and
things before they happen, and so a lot of my
grief in my life has been anticipatory. But now I'm
experiencing since you know, I wrote that song real life
grief from someone who passed away, you know, very close

(05:12):
to me, And so I listened back to that song
now with a totally new view, you know, because I've
experienced the other side of grief in a really serious way.
So it's interesting how these songs ring true in different ways.
Not to get dark. Sorry, good morning everyone.

Speaker 2 (05:27):
So I'm just sitting the tracks one through seven are dark.
Tracks through fourteen, I'm gonna started track eight.

Speaker 1 (05:36):
I know I have so many downers, right, I'm the most.
I'm the most. I'm the biggest downer of all.

Speaker 2 (05:41):
You're not has happened?

Speaker 3 (05:44):
Yes, no, not all.

Speaker 1 (05:46):
I have red shoes on. I got red shoes on.
Aren't they so cool? They're like a weird shape, They're
like weird asymmetrical bottoms. Yeah, they're cool. So that's in
on of the album. And are you going on a
like global world tour or something? I am so exciting.

Speaker 2 (06:05):
Yes, it's in my notes. Go ahead, it's in your notes.

Speaker 1 (06:09):
Yeah, I just announced it yesterday. We're going all over
the place. We're going to Europe, North America, Australia, Asia,
so many places. I've I've never been before, and so
many places I've never performed, so I'm really excited. It's
gonna be really cool. I'm gonna be exhausted the world.

Speaker 4 (06:24):
Yes, you even get time though, when you're on this tour.
You go to these places you've never been to explore
and have some time to yourself.

Speaker 1 (06:31):
It depends if I have an off day in that city.
If it falls in the right way, then yes, if
not not. Usually on a show day, you can't really
go too many places because you're doing promo or warm ups.
You can't really like, I don't really talk to preserve
my voice, so I can't really do much. But off
days are the best I love.

Speaker 5 (06:48):
Can't you say to them, Okay, we're going here. I've
never been. I really want to see it. Can you
please slot in some time for me to go and
you know, explore. I mean you you can, But when
you're routing a tour, it's tough because you've got to
make sure that venue is available, so you have to
route it in a way that the dates fit. I
can't just be like I'm going to be off for
three days here and.

Speaker 1 (07:05):
Then the next city, but that next city might be
booked like another band might be playing there, you know,
so it's you have like it's really hard to route
a tour, and I know so many fans are so upset.
They're like, you're not coming to my city. But it's
so hard to to route everything, and there's so many
factors that go into it that you know are so
out of your control. So I'm going to try to
go to more places though, don't hold me to that,
but I'm trying. I'm trying.

Speaker 2 (07:25):
Unless your Kara is here. The album it's out today.
I'm looking at Jonas Brothers notes, they're coming up in
an hour. You're celebrating your twentieth anniversary of the Jonas Brothers.
I am actually, yes, we put these over here. I
am celebrating the hy hyper Purpoly. I can't say the
stupid word hyper Bowl hyper Bowl. It's out today, Yes

(07:51):
it is. And uh, your Max is here performing with you.

Speaker 1 (07:54):
Max is here me, Yeah, I just saw him. He
just got a guitar.

Speaker 2 (07:59):
Max has two microphones. Hello. Hello. We're always in awe
of artists that come in here and can make it
happen at this hour and sound as great as you
always do. Pressure We'll see.

Speaker 1 (08:13):
I was gonna say I haven't done it yet.

Speaker 2 (08:15):
We'll see we had someone and go, let me start over.

Speaker 1 (08:19):
Yeah, I know, Chris, Chris Martin always does that. He
loves he loves to start over.

Speaker 2 (08:24):
But I love that.

Speaker 1 (08:24):
I think he plans those you think he's like, let
me to give it a moment, a.

Speaker 2 (08:28):
Fake crack of the voice to go, oh sorry, I'm
a human.

Speaker 1 (08:33):
I love him because he's he's so talented and crazy.
He just is like from the stars. He has to
remind people that he's a person. Sometimes forget maybe he's
an alien.

Speaker 2 (08:42):
I don't think he is. John Billion, John Billion started
to go love him. He's amazing.

Speaker 1 (08:49):
But I might start a couple of times out just because.

Speaker 2 (08:53):
If you could act more human that would be a plus. Okay,
but you always sound awesome. You want to do, you
want to try.

Speaker 1 (08:58):
This, whatever you guys want to do. I don't know
how whatever.

Speaker 2 (09:01):
Okay, then screw it, let's just sit here.

Speaker 3 (09:02):
Okay, no favorite voices. I love your voice so much,
Thank you so much.

Speaker 1 (09:07):
It's a little gone right now, so let us pray
you're one of those.

Speaker 2 (09:11):
You're like my mom and no dinner said. This is
gonna be the most God awful dinner. It was always great.
You do that. You always say my voice is cold, No,
but this always sounds awesome. You're an angel, said you.

Speaker 1 (09:21):
Were one of our favorite co hosts. Like when you
took over the show that day, that was so fun.
I have this like secret dream of doing like having
a radio show since I was a kid, and so
that really fulfilled my childhood dreams. Anytime you guys need seriously.

Speaker 2 (09:35):
Like in five minutes, okay, I.

Speaker 1 (09:38):
Will literally be here. This is I would rather be
doing this, honestly.

Speaker 2 (09:40):
I love it. My ass running out that door. Let's
get cars on.

Speaker 3 (09:43):
I gotta we should do a job slap. You can
host the show one day, and we can do a
day on your tour. Yes, people love that.

Speaker 1 (09:49):
That would be fun, you guys.

Speaker 2 (09:51):
That's called refunding, all right, so you do fire Yeah,
all right. So I'm not going to ask you what
it's about. I'm gonna what the words tell me, okay, and.

Speaker 1 (10:01):
Then I want to ask you what you think. I mean.
It's very, it's very It's an obvious one. It's not
like you know, well I'm a little slow. No no, no,
I think.

Speaker 2 (10:09):
It okay, scary you gonna push the buttons on So
with Max with Max from Love and Hyperbole, which is
out today.

Speaker 1 (10:20):
Thank you, damn thank you.

Speaker 2 (10:24):
You're on fire. I'm on fire. Yes, yes, yes, Max
sounds awesome. Back there. There was a moment scary is
on the mix. He didn't have your MinC up loud enough. Okay.
Alessia open her eyes and looked over like, where's the mak.

Speaker 4 (10:39):
You with a bad voice?

Speaker 1 (10:41):
Yeah, thank you. It's like I'm holding on fire.

Speaker 2 (10:45):
That was dreadful. Why you're crying. I'm not the only
one you Wow.

Speaker 1 (10:54):
Wow, Nate names on Fire. I actually wrote that about
having Halloween your pizza.

Speaker 2 (11:02):
After I've never seen express the emotion ever.

Speaker 1 (11:05):
That's so sweet.

Speaker 2 (11:08):
All the people in their car right now quiet the
text say. Her voice is so beautiful. Maxell's great. The
guitar is just about break ups. They're asking, No, it's
actually quite the opposite the second half of the album.

Speaker 1 (11:27):
That happens she's jumping in. Yes exactly. It's about being
like reignited, feeling color again and feeling you know, like
you're being expanded by.

Speaker 2 (11:36):
That's what I got from it. Yeah, I love fire Fire.
You know you can look at all the elements, but
fire to me is my favorite do you have? Are
you a water girl or fire girl? What are you?

Speaker 1 (11:45):
I'm a water I mean I'm a water sign, and
I'm definitely I think I feel like more water and
more like sensitive. Go with the flow right a little bit. Yeah,
I'm like fire.

Speaker 3 (11:56):
All three of us we have the three fire signs.

Speaker 1 (11:57):
Yeah, what are all your signs? You guys?

Speaker 4 (12:00):
That's no A Leo Elvis is Leo, Leo, Danielle's aries
and I'm a Sagittarius.

Speaker 1 (12:06):
I actually I'm not just saying this, can see that
for all?

Speaker 2 (12:09):
Yeah, Okay, I got, okay, I got. I have to
call partial bs on that.

Speaker 3 (12:14):
I hear you lea.

Speaker 2 (12:17):
Someone who's going, what's your sign of I'm a Leo?
And they'll go, oh god, oh what do you mean?
Oh god? Oh what does that mean? Oh god? Oh?

Speaker 1 (12:25):
Because well there's like a there's like a you know,
every sign has like a negative connotation. I'm a cancer.
They say cancers are like moody and emotional and like
over sensitive, and they say that Leo's are like a
little bit a little cocky. Well but I think that's
a beautiful thing to be, you know, to be confident
in yourself.

Speaker 2 (12:44):
You know that only one I do definitely see right there.
Geminis geminis.

Speaker 1 (12:51):
Yeah, my brother's a gemini nuts right yeah yeah, nuts and.

Speaker 2 (12:54):
A married one really, so who's the nuts?

Speaker 1 (12:59):
What do you love?

Speaker 5 (13:00):
Do you believe certain sign shouldn't date other signs?

Speaker 1 (13:03):
Not necessarily, because I do think. First of all, I
think there's like you know, there's a whole birth chart,
so there's like all kinds of different signs within one person.
But I also think like there's personality there that's separate
from your side, Like I think people can still very
much get along if there's signs don't necessarily Like, I'm
not that heavy into it, but I do feel like
there's so much truth to it because everybody I meet
really matches their sign. Like I feel like you's not

(13:24):
that you're not cocky at all. And I don't think
leos are cocky. I think that they're confident and expressive.
And I love you, and I.

Speaker 2 (13:30):
Think we should please We should play Family for you
with less.

Speaker 1 (13:33):
Yes, I went on that show, Oh My Family, and
it was crazy.

Speaker 2 (13:36):
We won, of course, but you and your family were
on Family for You.

Speaker 1 (13:40):
We were on Family Food Canada, so a little.

Speaker 2 (13:44):
Different that is that a thing? Are you excited about
becoming the new state in the United States?

Speaker 1 (13:50):
Oh my god, I'm so excited to join you guys.

Speaker 3 (13:52):
Yes, it's a great time.

Speaker 1 (13:54):
Yes, great time to jump in exactly. Yeah. I'm not
even gonna say anything back because now I'm one, I'm one.

Speaker 2 (13:58):
Of you guys.

Speaker 1 (13:59):
I'm just going to be to be here. Thank you
for having the possibilities.

Speaker 2 (14:03):
The possibilities are less now we will own the world
all way have to Alaska? Yeah, yeah, I know. Okay,
so there's that world tour. Is the info all out?
Are the venues booked?

Speaker 1 (14:14):
The venues are booked? Yeah, yeah, yeah, I think some
of them aren't announced yet. Okay, for whatever reason, I
don't know the logistics behind these things, but I believe
they're all booked unless they show up and there's no venue.

Speaker 2 (14:25):
See. I would rather than seeing you in Boston, I
would like to go to Warsaw, Poland Diseasion.

Speaker 1 (14:29):
Yes, oh my god, I was thinking that, like how
cool is those cities are just the coolest because it's
just like, what is that place? I'm so excited.

Speaker 2 (14:36):
What's your favorite foreign city?

Speaker 1 (14:37):
My favorite?

Speaker 6 (14:38):
Four?

Speaker 2 (14:38):
The one that really moved you? Maybe to tears maybe
to giggling.

Speaker 1 (14:41):
What something Argentine. I went to Argentina in twenty twenty two, Yes,
oh yeah, because it's not a city that's beautiful. No,
Buenos Aires is amazing and I played a show there
like a festival and it was the best show I've
ever played. The crowds like energy was It brought us
all to tears. My whole band, everybody was crying.

Speaker 2 (15:03):
And you can't really explain it all the time, and
which is the energy of the of the spot. I'm
I'm I've become a huge Vienna fan. I love it.

Speaker 7 (15:10):
I love.

Speaker 1 (15:13):
Yeah. And it waits for you, It waits for you.

Speaker 2 (15:17):
I I just got that. Alyssa say good morning to
Alessia Kara, whose new album is right now out.

Speaker 7 (15:28):
Hi, good morning, Hi, good gradations on the new album.

Speaker 1 (15:32):
Thank you so much.

Speaker 7 (15:35):
So I'm talking.

Speaker 2 (15:37):
Were you weeping as along with Nate over there?

Speaker 7 (15:41):
Yes? Oh my goodness. I just like the second the
song started. Your voice is just so beautiful and it's
just personally for me, it's been, it's done it. It's
been a tough goal lately for me. So just having
new music today like this is such a surprise. I
didn't even realize you had a album coming out. So
the second Elvias said it, I'm like Apple Music download,

(16:03):
I can't wait to listen to the rest. I'm just
this is a gift. It's it's I've just been having
a hard time, so this is such a gift. I
can't wait to listen. And I'm like in tears driving
to work right now. But oh my god, your voice
is amazing and I can't wait to listen to the rest.
I know it's going to be the album.

Speaker 1 (16:22):
That's so sweet. I'm sorry you're going through a rough
time hanging in there, and I hope that the album
gives you some company and you can find something in
it for you to.

Speaker 7 (16:31):
You know, you know, I'm sure I will. I always
do all of your music. It's it's always amazing.

Speaker 2 (16:35):
Thank you, Lisa. It's so great knowing you're listening to it.
Do you listen every day?

Speaker 7 (16:41):
Oh?

Speaker 6 (16:41):
Every day?

Speaker 7 (16:42):
Every day? On my drag work, I try to listen
to the replay channel. When I was out on maternity
leave for a few months, I was always trying to
listen and like catch up on things.

Speaker 2 (16:50):
And look at that we're interviewing a listen to car,
but I made it all about us. Thank you so much,
and we we agree. Alysia is awesome, Thank you very much.
Oh wait, how's timing looking? Because I found a secret
piece of.

Speaker 1 (17:09):
Sound, A secret piece of sound.

Speaker 2 (17:12):
This is you playing fast money on Family Feud.

Speaker 1 (17:14):
Canada brother, Me and my Gemini brother. We nailed.

Speaker 2 (17:23):
Paid him. Okay, let's see how they did.

Speaker 6 (17:26):
Name an instrument people play sitting Wait.

Speaker 2 (17:28):
Who is that? That's not Steve Harvey.

Speaker 1 (17:29):
No, that's Jerry d imagine Steve Harvey flies back and forth. No,
it's Jerry d.

Speaker 2 (17:34):
We do Steve Harvey of Canada.

Speaker 1 (17:36):
And Canadian comedian legend Jerry d O.

Speaker 2 (17:39):
Here, name an instrument people play sitting down?

Speaker 1 (17:42):
Good piano?

Speaker 6 (17:43):
Name something every pirate has a name, a royal title king.
Name the worst day of the week for traffic on Monday.
Name something in the bathroom that fills with water.

Speaker 1 (17:58):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (17:59):
Canadians are so easy, They're so easy.

Speaker 3 (18:02):
I thought guitar for the worst one because I saw
maximin down.

Speaker 2 (18:05):
This is why it went in Canada, so relaxed. Because
on Family Few they give him easy questions.

Speaker 3 (18:08):
Please, I'll make that up somehow.

Speaker 2 (18:11):
Here's here's the thing. We're all we know, we're all brilliant,
but under the spotlight your the IQ level goes down.
It's like going to an airport week.

Speaker 5 (18:20):
I was on the weakest link and I got voted
all first. You were on the weakest and I was
the weakest link.

Speaker 2 (18:25):
Bye.

Speaker 1 (18:26):
Yes, Wait did the ladies say that to you? Yeah?

Speaker 5 (18:28):
She did, and it was because and it's so hot
under those lights and you're so nervous.

Speaker 1 (18:33):
Of course I forgot everything. Of course, yeah, I forgot
how to speak. I feel like even when I do that, like,
did you win? We did before charity?

Speaker 2 (18:41):
Imagine?

Speaker 1 (18:41):
Yeah we pocketed all No, no, no, we went it
for a charity. Yes.

Speaker 2 (18:46):
Tell you what if you want to hear the studio
version of Fire, I'm about to play it for it.
In the music business, because of this two spins Alesia Kara.
Her new album is Love and Hyperbole and it's out today.
How do I quickly find out where you are traveling
to for your concerts?

Speaker 1 (19:05):
You can go on my website alessiacard dot com, slash tour,
or on my Instagram. I have the poster up I
believe I think I pinned it to the top of
the of my page. So you can go there as well.

Speaker 2 (19:15):
Did you do that or did someone do that for you?

Speaker 1 (19:17):
No, no, I do it. I do everything. I do
my own. So that's why I pose everything late. For
the people listening wondering why my social media might be
a bit disorganized, it's because I do it all. I'm like, okay, Twitter, okay, Instagram,
I'm doing it all myself.

Speaker 2 (19:29):
But I asked for it.

Speaker 1 (19:30):
I asked for it.

Speaker 2 (19:32):
I just asked, who did your stuff? I see, that
was me venting, that was okay.

Speaker 1 (19:39):
I needed to release that.

Speaker 2 (19:40):
There should be some punishment you guys for a Look,
we love you, We will always love you. We always have,
we always will. So please understand you always have an
open invitation to come with us over here, and I
