Speaker 1 (00:01):
It's daily highlight from Elvis Duran in the morning show.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
So much to talk about today, I don't even know.
Speaker 3 (00:07):
Hey, wait, where were you Gandhi when you were basically
kidnapped by a cab driver A taxi driver.
Speaker 1 (00:14):
Oh my god.
Speaker 4 (00:14):
It was when I landed here at the Columbus Airport.
So on Friday, because the Memorial Day weekend holiday was
huge and everyone wants to travel. I have never seen
the airport as crowded as it was on Friday. So
the line to catch the shuttle bus to the rental
car facility was hours long. I mean, people were falling asleep.
Speaker 1 (00:33):
It was chaos.
Speaker 2 (00:34):
Wow.
Speaker 4 (00:34):
Across from that was a taxi stand. So I was like, hmm,
I wonder if I ask one of the cab drivers
if he will give me a ride to the rental
car place and I'll pay him, you know, like twenty
five bucks because it's half a mile. Will that work?
So they have people who kind of dispatch the taxis.
I asked that person. That person said, yeah, no problem,
they do it all the time.
Speaker 1 (00:54):
Hop on in. I hop in.
Speaker 4 (00:56):
As soon as I'm in and the door is shut
and we start moving, the cab driver shuts off. The
meter and says forty five dollars. I was like, what
what absolutely not. I said, oh, no, you can just
let me out.
Speaker 1 (01:09):
That's okay. Because I didn't want to haggle with him.
Speaker 4 (01:10):
I didn't want to argue. I said, that's fine, just
let me out. He wouldn't let me out. There were
three different places where I could have gotten out safely.
He would not stop. He passed the rental car company
and goes to the highway. So now I'm getting very nervous.
I started recording it on my phone and I was like, oh.
Speaker 2 (01:24):
My god, Oh my god. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:27):
So he pulls over on the side of the highway
and goes get out. I said, what you want me
to get out on the side of the highway, He said,
I told you forty five dollars. If you're not going
to pay me forty five dollars, get out of my car.
So you're not getting anything at this point. But what
you are doing is very unsafe. I'm going to call
the police because I'm not sure what else to do.
I'm not going to stand on the side of the
freaking highway.
Speaker 1 (01:47):
This is crazy.
Speaker 4 (01:47):
It's dangerous for you, it's dangerous for me.
Speaker 1 (01:50):
This is a bad idea. This is not good.
Speaker 4 (01:52):
He finally turns around and goes back to the rental
car place. And as I'm getting out of the car. Now,
once we got there, I got a little more bold
because I was really agree at that point. So now
we're yelling at it. We were yelling at each other.
He was telling me I'm a bad person. I'm going
to hell, I'm the worst. But that's crazy, right, that
is kidnap. He took me away from the place, and
I was trying.
Speaker 2 (02:12):
To without doubt, okay, without doubt.
Speaker 1 (02:14):
So what do you do in that situation?
Speaker 3 (02:16):
Like what it was? What did you do? You got
out safely, then this is the good news. But what
did you do to follow up on this thing?
Speaker 4 (02:22):
So? I got his phone number, I got his license plate,
I got his name and the name of the company.
The company doesn't seem to care or want to do
anything about it. It's like a family owned type of
thing where you call, you get the voicemail, nobody calls
you back.
Speaker 1 (02:34):
I left a Google review about it.
Speaker 4 (02:36):
A couple of people were saying I should tell the
police what happened because that's super dangerous.
Speaker 1 (02:41):
But I don't know.
Speaker 4 (02:41):
I don't know if I want to escalate it to
that level. I'm not sure what to do. But it
was definitely scary and crazy, and I'm pretty sure that's illegal.
You can't just shut off your meter and then tell
somebody a different price than the initial quote right when
they're in your car.
Speaker 3 (02:55):
Well, look, look there's a disagreement over the price, obviously
I get that. Yeah, but you don't just drive and
not let someone out.
Speaker 1 (03:06):
Dump them on the highway.
Speaker 4 (03:07):
Yes, there were three places, like if you know this airport,
there's a hotel, there's a McDonald's, and then there's a
rental lot or a car like a shuttle lot, whatever
it is, on the way over there. He could have
stopped at any of those places, and he didn't, and
then he passed the other place where I actually wanted
to go and was trying to extort me for the
forty five dollars. Now, my sister says, I'm an idiot
and I should have just paid the forty five dollars
(03:28):
and gotten out, but.
Speaker 1 (03:29):
I was so mad.
Speaker 4 (03:30):
I maybe I should have in retrospect, but it was
just so crazy to me, and I did record it
so I have his face.
Speaker 1 (03:35):
I have all of it. I just don't know what
to do.
Speaker 2 (03:38):
Wow, all right, Well, I'm glad you're safe.
Speaker 3 (03:41):
But I would say if any of us or anyone
listening was in that same situation, I can see how
it would be like, this is not happening. It's not real, right,
It's like, yeah, is there a camera on me? I mean,
this is not real right?
Speaker 1 (03:54):
Yeah, why aren't you stopping? Let me out here? Let
me out here? It was nuts.
Speaker 4 (03:58):
And the fact that he was screaming at me and
being a nut about it, then it made me, you know,
very defensive too. And it was it was just not
a good situation.
Speaker 1 (04:06):
It was terrible.
Speaker 2 (04:06):
What what's the name of the taxi company? Do you
want to get here?
Speaker 4 (04:08):
Well, I would love to hold on one second. Let
me make sure that I don't get this wrong.
Speaker 1 (04:13):
It is hold.
Speaker 2 (04:14):
On, I have to look for This is in Columbus,
by the way, this.
Speaker 1 (04:17):
Is in Columbus.
Speaker 3 (04:18):
It is Oh my god, there's all these taxi company
owners that are going please don't say my name.
Speaker 1 (04:26):
Columbus.
Speaker 4 (04:26):
Hold on, Yeah, yeah, sorry, I want to make sure
that I get the right one.
Speaker 2 (04:31):
If you've sort of kidnapped our entire show, right.
Speaker 4 (04:34):
It's just called Airport, Columbus, Ohio taxi. So if you
go there, you're gonna see my horrible review, and then
the two numbers that you get to call them. It
was going immediately to voicemail both of them. So I
left messages at both and nobody has called me back.
And I do have all of this guy's information.
Speaker 2 (04:50):
Good wow, I'm glad you called him out. Text message
is coming in.
Speaker 3 (04:54):
You should absolutely call the police, someone else says, and
this is kind of an interesting way of looking at it. Uh,
maybe you should get thee police involved, because what if
this had happened to like a young girl who really
couldn't figure out how to maneuver through it as smartly
as you did. It could happen to anyone and maybe,
I mean you may have said the right things or
did the right whatever, the right thing to be safe
(05:14):
and get out of there. Maybe someone in that same
position would not have maneuvered the same way, and it
could be a dangerous situation.
Speaker 2 (05:20):
So I don't know.
Speaker 1 (05:21):
They tell you, well, I just don't.
Speaker 4 (05:23):
I definitely don't want it to happen to anyone else.
I think it was ridiculous, the entire thing, And you know,
I was really torn when he pulled over on the
side of the highway. Do I get out and stand
here on the side of the highway?
Speaker 1 (05:32):
What do I do? That's amazing. I see a review though,
you see it?
Speaker 3 (05:36):
Yeah, did you use foul language?
Speaker 1 (05:40):
I did not.
Speaker 4 (05:41):
But I gave his name, I gave the phone number,
I gave the license plate, all of it.
Speaker 3 (05:44):
Yep, good, good, you know, and not everyone has a
radio show where they can talk about this kind of
stuff and call people out.
Speaker 1 (05:50):
You know, Yeah, that's right there.
Speaker 2 (05:51):
You have
