Speaker 1 (00:00):
News Talk se'd b. It is fifteen minutes past seven
and it will be all go out at the christ
Church Adventure Park very shortly. And just to touch base
with the man who has had all the headaches and
probably growing the gray, here is the CEO of Crank Works,
mister Adiki Tibble.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
Good morning, Leslie. How are you?

Speaker 1 (00:20):
Oh look, we are really good and fizzed for what
is going to happen out at the Venture Park. Gosh,
I mean, how are you feeling ahead of it now
that we're finally underway here or nearly in christ Church?

Speaker 2 (00:30):
I am feeling absolutely ready. We've had a pretty incredible
few days. It's always tricky because we have all these
team and staff who come from all over the world,
whether it's production or its operations, and we kind of
storm into town and have to integrate with the local
team and the Crisis Adventure Park team in the autotahy
cracious tams. That team have just opened us with welcome arms,

(00:51):
and the team feels like one team, one dream, and
that's half the battle. So the stage is set and
we are ready to rip.

Speaker 1 (00:58):
Oh fantastic, because this is a massive international event, isn't it?

Speaker 2 (01:03):
It really is and you know, we have international broadcasts
going out exclusively in North America and then globally on
Outside and Pink Bike, which is one of the biggest
mountain bike media outlets in the world. And then domestically
it's going out on TV and Z with the three
live broadcasts this week. And those are only some of
the touch points. I mean, some of these athletes are

(01:24):
like media machines themselves, so they have followers all over
the show, and so that means that you know, from
the moment they touched on in christ Church, they are
sending content out and making an impact globally about what's
happening here this week.

Speaker 1 (01:37):
Look, I know that we have spoken to you in
the past, but just highlight again for our listeners what
can we expect out there today from these international athletes.

Speaker 2 (01:46):
So much action, Leslie, there's later this morning. You know,
the teams are out there right now getting all prepped
up for the rest of the day. But at twelve thirty,
I mean, we have finals happening in the morning with
the elite downhill riders. But from about two thirty that's
when the broadcast kicks off and the top eschelon of
those male and female riders will be dropping down the

(02:06):
Redemption Downhill, which is about a four minute track going
from the top of the portholes and finishing down in
the Crash at a Venture Park main arena. Again, plenty
of cameras, lots of drones. It's it's going to be
full coverage, whether you're on site or whether you're guinin
and on TV and Z. And then we've got a
double hitter, so later in the afternoon we'll have the

(02:28):
Pump Track Challenge that'll be at six thirty pm. Again,
that's another broadcast or a huge day for the team,
but it's a gladiatorial arena, so it's two riders hit
the hit no chains on their bikes and they have
to build momentum and you're just blown away by how
fast these riders can get. So that's just Saturday. Then
we turn our attention to Sunday and we have the

(02:49):
marquee event, the Slope Style, kicking off tomorrow morning. So
you know, there's a bit of a bit of wind forecast,
so we'll be watching very carefully about how things are
playing out. Some of those events are wind affected, mainly
Tomorrow's Tomorrow's slopestyle events, so We just encourage anyone who's
keen to come along just to keep checking the crankquicks

(03:10):
dot com website fringing updates to schedule tweaks.

Speaker 1 (03:14):
Did I hear you say that they would go from
the top to the bottom in four minutes.

Speaker 2 (03:18):
Yeah, they'll be hitting around top speeds of around sixty
to seventy kilmeters an hour down terrain you could hardly walk.

Speaker 1 (03:27):
Wow, that is you know, and we've talked about the
courage that you need to do that isn't It's a
bit like a Formula one driver.

Speaker 2 (03:34):
Yeah, it does remind me of Formula one driving in
the sense that you know, they are almost pure instincts
by the time at a level to be able to
ride a track like this. So you know, there's not
a lot of deep thinking going. The body just knows
what it knows, and they are staying in the moment,
reading the track in front. They have done their homework
over the day's past and they just just letter.

Speaker 1 (03:55):
It instinct right exactly. Yeah, have you done it.

Speaker 2 (04:00):
I've done a lot of writing. I've had probably moments
where I've hit my toes and that feeling a flow
that I think that there's writers experience on a much
more common basis than I. It is an amazing feeling,
and I think it's probably the same feeling that so
many punters experience when they just go and have their
local trails, And it's probably why the sport is growing
so much, is because I think that those little moments

(04:22):
of magic that the writers the pro riders experience are
reachable for your average punter as well. And it's quite special.

Speaker 1 (04:29):
Oh look, the adrenalinine that must flow through and the
come down afterwards would be hard to deal with.

Speaker 2 (04:35):
I reagon well, I think you know, when you're in
a place like crassatr Venture Park, it's such a beautiful setting.
If any of the locals haven't had a chance to
come down, they should check it out. But it's the
kind of setting you want to decompress and after a
ride like that, so you know the stage is set. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (04:49):
Look, it's a triumph, you know, given everything you've been through.
I mean, I know you've been up and loaded or
you know, lots of times with crank Weeks, but it's
the first time we're going to get experience it, and
it's an absolute triumph that it's going to come to
fruition at last, and you've got a decent forecast for
the two days. I don't know how that easterly will
affect you, Probably not much up there.

Speaker 2 (05:09):
Will that we think it will come in later. Well,
I mean, it'll be windy today and it's going to
affect some of the slopestyle training, we believe, but the
downhill and the pump track look like they should be
able to forge your head with what's forecast. And then
tomorrow looks like those those winds will build as the
day increases, So you know, I think our window of
opportunity will be in the morning. Yeah. Yeah, but a

(05:31):
triumph indeed. And you know, I mean nobody does these
things by themselves. It's always through collaboration. So it's definitely
been a team effort. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (05:40):
Absolutely, And just in terms of where the whole weekend
is going to finish, as are people still able to get.

Speaker 2 (05:47):
Tickets, get tickets? Are ticking along, they are. We have
had to increase security because they are going so well,
and so you know, kind of monitoring that at the
moment and may need to put a cap on if
it continues to contest deeply, But we're really happy with
what we're looking at coming through the gate and I

(06:08):
think I think it's going to be some incredible vibes
over the next forty eight hours.

Speaker 1 (06:12):
Oh well, look, it's just so good. I'm just so
happy for you because I know that you've had to
deal with all the issues that surrounded it being postponed
last year with the Porthill fires, et cetera. And the
fact that it's going here just fantastic and you know,
much kudos to you and your team and the team
down here in christ Church. But we are stoked to
have such a big international event here in the city

(06:33):
and all we can say is just have a fab
two days.

Speaker 2 (06:37):
Thank you very much. Well, we feel very welcome and yeah,
so thank for having me on and for yeah, I
feel you're very looked after.

Speaker 1 (06:45):
Oh well that's good. You deserve it. You're a good man,
RIKEI table, thank you so much. Thank you, Leslie, thanks
for joining us. Really appreciate it so early in the
morning over or up there at the Adventure Park, christ
Church Adventure Park and the crank Works is going to
get underway as fantastic. For more from News Talk set
