As players flee the New Zealand netball game for greener pastures in Australia, one young home-grown shooter has chosen to return home to play.

Hannah Glen has signed on to play for the Tactix in the 2026 season – returning to Christchurch after playing for the Mystics.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Well, some good news for the Tactics. And we all
know that there has been an exodus over the last
few weeks since the championship win, the premiership title in
twenty twenty five and Hannah Glenn is coming back home
and you're going to play for the Tactics in twenty
twenty six and Hannah joined us. This is good news. Hannah,
well done, great decision.

Speaker 2 (00:19):
Thank you. Yeah, it's certainly wasn't an easy decision, but yeah,
obviously super excited to be back home. I feel like
I'm always always going to be a red and black
person thrown through, So yeah, excited to be home and
see what next season has to hold.

Speaker 1 (00:35):
In the Villa Maria community, we're happy as well, won't they?

Speaker 2 (00:38):
Yes, yeah a little bit. Yeah. Have actually since being back,
done a couple of coaching sessions with them before they
headed away to South Island. So I think they finished
up yesterday in sixth place, which was great for them.

Speaker 1 (00:52):
So yeah, nice. Oh thanks for the heads up on that.
That's very good. So what did you learn up there
playing up there for the Mystics.

Speaker 2 (01:01):
I think quite a bit about myself to start off
with that, completely aside from netball, I've always grown up
in christ Church, so just the opportunity to get out
of my comfort zone a little bit was great. First
and foremost, learned that Auckland isn't as bad as it
often gets the REP. I actually really enjoyed the city.
And then I guess from a netball perspective, you'd just

(01:24):
learned so much being surrounded by, Oh, the likes of
Petter especially, she is the biggest wealth of knowledge when
it comes to netball. She sees it differently to anyone else,
I think, so yeah, just being able to play alongside
her and constantly learn off her was amazing.

Speaker 1 (01:42):
Did you get the amount of court time that you
thought you would?

Speaker 2 (01:47):
Definitely one of the things My move up there was
focused around court time and just like getting a new
opportunity in the first season one hundred percent there. Obviously
Grace hadn't pretty early on in the year, so yeah,
got a good, good opportunity out on court to have

(02:07):
to fill her shows, I guess, which obviously came with
lots of pressure. This year it was a little bit
more difficult. I was juggling a couple of injuries that
I had throughout the season. I had one in pre season,
and then a bit of an ankle niggle later on
in the year, so that certainly hindered my chances to

(02:28):
get on court a little bit. But yeah, grateful for
every opportunity I did get. But yeah, obviously it is
hard to keep learning and developing from the sideline to
a certain point.

Speaker 1 (02:40):
Oh, absolutely. And do you think that there was any
great style difference between what they play ati Mystics or
what you've learned growing up or playing or you know,
on the periphery of the tactics.

Speaker 2 (02:51):
Yeah, for I don't know if this is necessarily a
style difference, but probably something that came just from being
older as well. Certainly, the Mystics game is a very
fast style. The biggest gift of their play is bull
speed and having that sort of intuition or where to

(03:13):
go in that sort of thing, which is great when
you've got it, but yeah, sometimes a little bit challenging
to coach up, I guess. So for the first part
of my time up there, it was definitely building those
connections to get the bull speed and stuff going. So yeah,
that was probably the biggest biggest difference that I noticed.

(03:34):
They don't know if that was necessarily a difference from
team to team. But yeah, definitely something that I've picked
up on.

Speaker 1 (03:40):
Oh interesting, And are you fully fit now? No injuries,
no niggles.

Speaker 2 (03:44):
No, yeah, fully good at the moment. So yeah, just
in the depths of off season, enjoying a little bit
of break from netball and doing things that I enjoy.

Speaker 1 (03:53):
Oh, fantastic. Well, I know that you've got a job
that you keep as well. Is that how many hours
do you do that when the netball's.

Speaker 2 (03:59):
On during the netball season the season just been I
did about twenty hours. Looking to increase that a little bit.
I don't know how much I'll be able to increase
it by, but potentially a little bit more so sitting
around that twenty five mark for the next season. It
obviously gives a little bit more income. But also yeah,

(04:22):
I like being able to switch off from netborn and
focus on something else.

Speaker 1 (04:25):
Fantastic, Well, anything else we need to know.

Speaker 2 (04:28):
No, I think that pretty much covers it, Leslie.

Speaker 1 (04:30):
Yeah, and just good news about Eric Kanner as well.
I know the rest of the team will get named
during the week. But great that she is staying on
a skipper.

Speaker 2 (04:38):
Oh yeah, it's great. When I first was with the
Tactics she was in there as well, so she's always
been someone I looked up to but also got on
with really really well. So yeah, the news that she
is back again for another season is obviously yeah great
and yeah, super excited to reconnect with her.

Speaker 1 (04:57):
Can. I can't wait to see you out there in
the tactic streets. Good news. Thank you for more from
