Speaker 1 (00:00):
One who's been in quite a few Canniby teams is
John Radamakers and our golf segment, thank you very much,
in association with the Mble Trading Company, Marty Fuller and
his team. Touchy, good morning, Nice to chat again.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
Yeah, same really good.

Speaker 3 (00:15):
Gosh.

Speaker 1 (00:15):
We've had a lot of sport to watch the last
few weekends, haven't we have?

Speaker 3 (00:19):
We have. I had a chat with Nick Bewley last
time this time last year, so we're very much at
the similar, similar point in time. So your timing is impeccable, excellent.

Speaker 1 (00:28):
Well that's thanks to Mike god and they, let's face it,
because he tees it all up and we're very grateful
for him for doing that. But you are the convener
of the men's selection panel here for golf, and you've
had some warm up games already, right correct.

Speaker 3 (00:41):
So we've had the matches against a Rangy, and we've
had the Town Business Country, and we've the whole season
started right back in January, so we've whittled out our
team down to about a dozen players, eight or nine players.
So now it's a time where when they really have
to start showing the ability on the paddock.

Speaker 1 (01:04):
So your fellow selectors Mark Patterson and Matt MacLean. So
you all got to choose the fact there wouldn't be
many you know, there wouldn't be many hardcore chats, would
there you'd all be of a similar elk.

Speaker 3 (01:16):
Well, Matt Matt McLain is a professional, and he's playing
up at the Childs of End and Mount Loungerui at
the moment. So here is a different perspective on players'
ability from a professional standpoint. And I'm more of a
player that's played at sort of interclub level and more
the amateur status he's his symput is really invaluable. And

(01:39):
Mark Patterson's from Otarga. You played Representative golf as well.
So we're a good mix.

Speaker 1 (01:44):
Oh, excellent, that's good to hear. So are we expecting
any new talent to burst through or is it pretty
much what you had last year?

Speaker 3 (01:52):
Two players that that surface so far, Yuki Maya and
Cooper Moore. They're playing up at the Childs of End
and Mount at the moment, one sitting at fourth, Cooper
sitting at fourth and after two rounds, and Yuki sitting
at sixth place, and they're playing against the top pros
in New Zealand. So they're doing okay from an amateur standpoint.

Speaker 1 (02:11):
So for you, though, what are you looking for when
you're packing these players? You must go back and have
a look at how the inter club's going and the
nitty gritty of the results.

Speaker 3 (02:20):
Correct. So what we do is the season starts at
January when they have a lot of Canterbury Open tournaments
between January and March at the local clubs and also
some of the Child's events, some of the New Zealand
events occur. And so what we do is we track
their order of merit scores, their stroke scores, we average

(02:41):
them out and then we identify probably about a dozen players.
It includes players who have represented Cannoby at national level
and then that doesn't players will follow later on in
the season when inter club starts and we'll look at
the win loss record and who they beat on the way.

Speaker 2 (03:00):
What are you looking at at the moment, what's happening
for you?

Speaker 3 (03:03):
So what's happening is they are going to get selected
for a team. There's a six man team there's due
to play Wellington and that's in November, and then we
picked the five man team plus reserved for the New
Zealand Interprevincial, so that's what's left. So we may have
to use the Child's event down here in christ Church,

(03:24):
which is that Pegasus to sort of determine the final
sort of forts two or three spots. So it just
means there's a bit of pressure on some of the
fringe players. But at the moment we've got two sets
which are Yuki and Cooper, and then we've got about
well six to seven players playing for about three spot,
three or four spots, so it's pretty competitive. It's at

(03:45):
that point the end of the season and that's what
we expect.

Speaker 1 (03:48):
Oh, that's what you want, that's for sure, because in
the end it comes down to who handles the mental
pressure as well.

Speaker 3 (03:54):
Mostly there's a lot of factors. There's you know, their experience,
their fitness, the ability to fit in a team, and
the performance on the paddock. And I just think it's
important from a selector standpoint, and we make it clear
what we require from players and we try and sort
of introduce a blueprint for them to perform and they

(04:17):
need to know that because they're preparing for the season.
They in the off season and they need to know
what's required for the following year.

Speaker 2 (04:24):
Did you tell me where the endo provincials are?

Speaker 3 (04:27):
No, I haven't done it. One or two golf course.
I don't know the course myself, but that will be
factored into the type of course. Who fits that type
of course or that type of layout and will packed accordingly.

Speaker 2 (04:44):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (04:44):
Got one thing that we know about the golf and
we honestly say it's like not a broken record because
it sounds like it's boring because it's not. Is the
number of high profile golfers that are performing so well
around the world with the New Zealand name side them,
and also the young talent as you've mentioned, I mean
Cooper Moore, what a year, what a couple of years,

(05:05):
three years he's had a.

Speaker 3 (05:07):
Story about him. I mean when Nile was tracking their
scores between January and March at some of the open
tournaments here in christ Church and also some of the
events around New Zealand. His average is average score this
is average was sixty seven point eight, which is four
or five under and that's an average. I mean, that's

(05:27):
pretty impressive and age and he's not even a lan yet,
so he's well supported by his parents and he's certainly
someone to watch for in the future.

Speaker 1 (05:38):
He has certainly got the focus. Hasn't he anything else
we need to know?

Speaker 3 (05:42):
No, I think it's we don't even know who the
team is apart fer in Uki and Cooper, but you
know it just and the players won't know, but they'll
know what's required and they'll know what events to participate
and to put their hand up. So that's really interesting
and really competitive and makes it look good for a
good season. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (06:00):
Well, they're lucky to have you there at the at
the very top, making that all the things match up
and doing all your due diligence with all those reports.

Speaker 2 (06:08):
Fantastic, John Readamaker's.

Speaker 3 (06:10):
Thank you, Leslie and all the best.

Speaker 2 (06:12):
Are you still playing?

Speaker 3 (06:14):
Yes, I am playing, just I am playing competitive golf
and your club golf, so I'm still still hanging in there.

Speaker 2 (06:25):
And what's your Do you have a handicap?

Speaker 3 (06:27):
Yes? I sort of range between one and the three,
so that that keep me out of trouble.

Speaker 2 (06:31):
Oh, you have to play a lot to keep it there.

Speaker 3 (06:33):
Oh, yes, you've got to keep it. But I played
as a kid so that if you've got a foundation
that helps.

Speaker 2 (06:38):
Yes, skilled in so many sports.

Speaker 3 (06:41):
Thank you, Leslie, and don't talk about basketball. While you're
just showing your age.

Speaker 1 (06:44):
Yes, well I'm allowed to because you were magic times anyway.

Speaker 2 (06:48):
But thank you very much. We always love your input
on our program.

Speaker 3 (06:51):
Thank you, thank you.

Speaker 1 (06:52):
That is John Dutchy Dadimakers of course, back in the
day the Canoby Rams. They reign supreme with players like
him in it.
