Speaker 1 (00:00):
Well let's go over to Guwatti and to the ICC
Women's Cricket World Cup. Lea to who who joined us,
Good morning, oh good evening. Congratulations on your one hundred
run win over Bangladesh.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
Hey Leslie, thank you very much, thank you.
Speaker 1 (00:13):
Oh what a game? First of all, posting at the
white fence posting two hundred and twenty seven Sophie divine.
What kind of form is she in?
Speaker 2 (00:22):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (00:22):
It's pretty good to watch at the moment, isn't it?
The way I think she's able to sort of assess
the game and then play at the tempo like she
did today. I think it's the first time in a
long time I've seen her probably get to forty runs
without having hit a boundary. So just the control that
she has at the moment, she's doing a fantastic job
for us, sort of rebuilding in that middle order.
Speaker 1 (00:41):
Tell us what the pictures like?
Speaker 2 (00:43):
Yeah, look, it actually wasn't too bad.
Speaker 3 (00:44):
I think there's many a couple of games here before
in it, and it was a used wicket and we
knew that Bangladesh were going to come in with a
lot of spinners. There's been a lot of wickets taken
by spinn here, so we were prepared for that, but
I think we obviously bold second and underlights. That's skidding
on quite nicely for us.
Speaker 1 (01:01):
When you look at that total two hundred and twenty seven,
at one stay duty on, you were thirty eight for three.
Then that wonderful one hundred and twelve were on partnership
between Sophie Divine and Brooke Halliday both getting sixties. How
hard were those half centuries to get?
Speaker 3 (01:15):
Yeah, the way that they grinded it out there was
fantastic to watch. I think they just assess the conditions
beautifully and knew that if we put a big partnership
together it would get us slightly easier towards the back
end being able to I guess have the hitters come
in later on, and they set that up wonderfully for us.
From a bit of a precurious situation. I think we're
thirty five for three or something like that, but it's
(01:37):
been a couple of games in a row now where
they've at least given us a target to bolto.
Speaker 1 (01:41):
This is a great picture actually doing the rounds and
the media here of Brooke and Sophie leaning on their
bats and it must have been so hot.
Speaker 3 (01:49):
Yeah, it was incredibly hot here. We're looking at about
thirty two degrees. But it's the humidity that really stats
you with the energy and for them to bat I
think forty odd overs out there, a lot of singles run. Yeah,
the way that they actually put their body on the
line for the team, and obviously Sophie has diabetes as well,
and there are a few medical stops for her and
bits and pieces, so there was a lot going on.
(02:09):
And yeah, look the way that they just put it
all out there for us was incredible to watch.
Speaker 1 (02:14):
So to two seven, were you confident at the end
of the fifty overs, Yeah, we were.
Speaker 3 (02:19):
We knew he had runs on the board, and we
know that this venue it's been difficult to chase and
I think the highest score here in a couple of
games so far had been one hundred and seventy eight,
So to give over two hundred and we knew we
had runs on the board that Bangladesh had to go
out there and try and get.
Speaker 1 (02:34):
So the bowling eight bowlers used, and I would be
really interested how Sophie managed to rotate the bowlers. I mean,
that's looked awesome because obviously being so hot couldn't have
long spells.
Speaker 3 (02:47):
Yeah, we had a small situation there, I think about
fifteen overs in. We thought there might be some rain coming,
so we put the spinners on to work in tandem
to get through a few more overs quickly. So we
did probably use a couple more bowlers there, but we
also knew going in that we'd probably use a few
more slower bowlers. So someone like Maddie Green getting a
first opportunity of the World Cup, and Brook Holliday obviously
(03:08):
as well, bowls a few slow balls and variations, so
on that perch, we sort of thought it might be
quite effective there.
Speaker 2 (03:14):
So yeah, I guess sometimes as a I guess a
full time.
Speaker 3 (03:17):
Bowler, you're a little bit like, come on, give me
the ball instead. But it's also nice to get some
overs into other bowlers as well.
Speaker 1 (03:23):
Or you'll be pleased. You picked up three Gess Curve
picked up three Rosemary. Ne're a couple of top and
it just seemed to be perfect synchronization.
Speaker 2 (03:30):
Yeah, I think we bowl really well together.
Speaker 3 (03:32):
Having obviously Rosemary back was a big boost for us
as well, the way that she started off in that
power play, and she's obviously quite a skiddy and quick
bowler at the top of the order there, which is
really important for us. And I think as well, Gess,
you know, probably wasn't that happy with her first couple
of games, but I think the links that she hit
today were really important and showed the real skill that
(03:53):
she's got for us. So yeah, it's always nice to
get off to a good start, that's for sure. We
hed to Sri Lanka tomorrow, so we've got two games
in Sri Lanka in the next sort of eight days.
Speaker 1 (04:03):
Any messages to home.
Speaker 3 (04:05):
Yeah, look, hello kids, Oh Amy, I hope you're going
good now.
Speaker 2 (04:09):
I've been speaking to them quite a bit.
Speaker 3 (04:10):
They sent me a nice message today with playing one
hundred games, so got a little bit teary at the
start there, but yeah, wonderful support from back home.
Speaker 2 (04:19):
So thanks to them.
Speaker 1 (04:20):
You've played your one hundred throw d Yeah.
Speaker 3 (04:22):
One hundred oad eyes today, So yeah, it was pretty
cool and took a moment out in the field to
sort of think, wow, you've you've got to do this
one hundred times and ample on the shit for one
hundred ODI eyes, which was a pretty special moment.
Speaker 1 (04:34):
That is amazing because there's been quite a lot of
milestones haven't there between Susie, Sophie yourself.
Speaker 3 (04:39):
Yeah, I think all the old girls obviously putting a
few hundred games up on the board all together, which
is I think as well. It's really special, you know,
bringing it up in a World Cup, but also bringing
it up having you know, those guys here who have
played every game with I'd say it has been played
alongside either Sophie or Susie, So yeah, really special for
sus a little bit of a presentation this morning.
Speaker 1 (05:00):
Rest up. Loved what we saw. I mean, it's just
been tough, hasn't it, starting against Australia then the South Africa.
These games in Tri Lanka are going to be really important.
Speaker 3 (05:10):
Yeah, we knew it was going to be a tough
start and we certainly didn't play the way that we
wanted to in those first couple of games. But really
nice to sort of get a little bit of momentum
today and hopefully that can kick start us into this
tournament for the next couple of games as well.
Speaker 1 (05:24):
Fantastic Thank you so much for finding time to talk
to us again. Congratulations on the win on your one
hundredth Odi lea to who Who and keep up the
fantastic work.
