Speaker 1 (00:00):
And we've now found the four finalists after pretty challenging season.
We've had lots of those you imagined. The spring weather.
It's been very strong, windy days and rainy days, so
it's been a pretty tough but we're wrote route to
the day but we're looking forward to the competition tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (00:20):
So tell us a little bit about those four teams
that have made it through.
Speaker 1 (00:23):
Well, the semi finalists Clearwater versus christ Church and Water
Kry versus Sorry, Clearwater versus Hereward and Water Kerrey versus
christ Church. It's just running through the teams. Clearwater the
defending champions. They've got a pretty strong team and filled
with some stars and the lights of Cooper Moore who's
(00:47):
well known in the New Zealand team and just been
just come back from the World's team event in the
Eisenhower in the Age of Pacific Amateurs. He paid in
recently and he's also so yeah one of his first
professional Charle staw event as an amateur at Mount Mongooermy recently.
So he's an absolute star. But he's backed up by
(01:08):
Sam McGill who's our Kenneby Rep and Kenneby Next Play
Champion along with Brodie Ferguson who's a Taraniki Rep as well,
so that there'll be a tough, tough team to beat.
But they're up against Herewood which is a pretty solid team.
They were semi finals two years ago, actually drew with
clear Water last Sunday, so they'll be looking to go
(01:30):
one better. This is coming Sunday, and they got the
likes of Scott many Weathers who's a Kenneby Rep, Josh
Smith also a Range representative, and backed up with the
likes of Jamie Howard who's the Kenneby Master's match Play Champion.
Speaker 2 (01:47):
So that is what about the White Cuddie christ Church.
Speaker 1 (01:50):
Match up yep near the whitter Carey christ Church match
will be also a keenly forty aut competition. Whiteter Carey
second this year and they've been a very well performed team,
largely made up of some older, more experienced players and
the likes of Aaron Forsyth, Warwick Davy, Karen Shavin and
(02:12):
Brett Turner. It'd be interesting to see how they go.
The McClain's course is quite a tight tree line course
and water Carey is similar in some respects to it,
so it could be a course that mcleans might suit
the water Carey guys. But the only disappointing thing for
(02:33):
the water Carey team one of the star players, Tony Boone,
was the best Woodward Cup play with for the year.
He ended up with eight out of nine wins in
one the salver. He's unfortunately not available overseas at a conference,
so they're going to be without one of the star performers.
Speaker 2 (02:50):
Just going back to Cooper Moore, My goodness, has he
not played a lot of golf this year already?
Speaker 1 (02:56):
He has played a lot of golf and he played
last Sunday and I think he might have been a
wee bit tired because he ended up having a half
with a guy by the name of Scott Tobin. He's
certainly an outstanding player, but yeah, you can't play well
all the time. And I'm sure that he's freshened himself
(03:18):
up this week and we're looking forward to getting out
and performing well for clear Water on the day. No Rusley,
No Rusley. Russeley missed out a beaten by christ Church
in the final round. But look, it's such an even competition.
In the semi final. In the round robin, there were
six teams that could have made that top four, and
(03:41):
unfortunately Russeley missed out. But look, they've got a great
strong junior program and I'm sure they'll be back in
contention again next year.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
Sure they will. You talked about the McLean's Island golf course.
How will that suit Who will that suit the most?
Speaker 1 (03:55):
It will suit the guys that are the reasonably straight.
You've got to be able to work the ball both ways.
There's a couple of holes that are dog left and
dogly right, and so it's the powerhaders might have to
rain there enthusiasms to work it out there because it's
(04:18):
about keeping the ball in play. So it is might
a clear Sorry McLean's Island is of course that not
many of the guys play on a regular basis, so
it'll be about playing smart play around there. The percentage shot,
so anything could happen on the.
Speaker 2 (04:35):
Day, absolutely, What time is te off late?
Speaker 1 (04:39):
The semi finals start in the morning at eight o'clock
and we're looking to have the finals away by one
o'clock in the afternoon. So look, I mean there's some
really good golfers to go out there and watch, and
we welcome many spectators to come along it's obviously free
to get in, but you'll see some Kennaby's top golfers
(05:00):
for those people that can't make it out of there,
if you go to the Kenneby Golf website, we've got
live scoring so you can see how the matches are
unfolding as the day progresses.
Speaker 2 (05:09):
Excellent. Well, let us a very good rundown, Thank you
very much, Peter McDonald. That is fantastic and all we
can do is watch the golf as it's going to
be extremely competitive out there at McLean's Island, and you've
got a big job because you, as we mentioned, you
are the tournament director for finals day, so good luck
with that. I hope there's not too many things that
bother you now.
Speaker 1 (05:30):
Well, it's the fortunate thing. The weather forecast is looking good,
so that'll make things hopefully go reasonably smoothly. So we
looked forward to a really exciting day and are sure
it'll be a great day for involved.
Speaker 2 (05:42):
