Speaker 1 (00:00):
Let's crack on straight into it though and get to
our club sport raps, and as always we start with
bowls on a Saturday morning through the summer months. Jason
Putick is with us. Morning, Jason morning.
Speaker 2 (00:09):
Goops.
Speaker 1 (00:10):
All right, plenty happening and first let's look back Jason,
and we'll start with the National fours. Had some competitors
locally for men's and women's, so give us how things
played out.
Speaker 3 (00:21):
Yeah, so these have played a couple of weeks ago,
and the fours.
Speaker 2 (00:26):
On the women's side of the troll.
Speaker 3 (00:27):
We had Dale Rayner and Karen Guildford who were the
deadfending champs going into this event. Unfortunately went down in
the quarter final, leading to a team skip by Mandy
Boyd eighteen thirty, but a good run by them to
try and defend their title. On the men's side of
the draw and the fours, the beast we got to.
There was the last sixteen that was a team skipped
(00:47):
by Black Signal with Ben King, Jordan Keene and Steve
Ditford going down fourteen to nine in their game to
a team which included Seamus Curtain and then net the
mixed peers. We had a pretty good lineup. In the
quarter finals we had Shavannah Williams and Jordan Keene, who
of course were the runner up in the National Champion
(01:08):
Champion Mixed Peers last year. Unfortunately they went down on
an extremes a really tight game there, twelve ten the
finals score there, Rob Ashton teaming up with Linda Ralph
again a very tight game, losing twelve eleven in Dale
Raina teaming up with Arli Forsyth, the current New Zealand
blackjack but unfortunately going down ten nine as well. So
(01:31):
some raally tight results there, a lot of what could
have been to the Wellington players but unfortunately didn't quite
get over the line in those quarter finals.
Speaker 1 (01:38):
Yeah, very competitive by the sounds all right. And also
since we last spoke, we've had some Masters Rep competitions.
Speaker 3 (01:44):
Yes, so a women's Master's Rep team played earlier this
week in the Capity Coast on Monday and Tuesday and
that was competed by six different regions around the Lower
North Island. Coming out on top of that event was
from the Nui with fifteen and a half wins. Kepiti
was second on eleven wins men to teen wins. Wellington
(02:06):
finished fourth on nine and a half wins, with Hawk's
Bay and Wirappa filling the last two spots, so not
a great result there. And then next week on Monday
and Tuesday were their Men's Masters teams heading up to
the men were two to play the same teams up there,
so good luck to those guys hiding the way.
Speaker 1 (02:24):
Yes and d all the very best. All right in
the club playoffs time, Jayson.
Speaker 3 (02:29):
Yeah, we've worked all year to get to this point.
So today we crack into the top four playoffs for
the men. Victoria hosting this and that includes obviously themselves
along with nine to Eye Stakes Valley and Patoni Central,
so they'll be battling it out all day in Victoria
(02:49):
and the woman this will be hosted by Stakes Valley,
so the Stakes Valley Women along with Johnsonville, Victoria and
Patoni Central making up the top four playoffs. So they
are well get through today and we'll find that winners
and they'll go on to represent the Wellington region in
the National Winter Club Finals in a couple of weeks time.
Speaker 1 (03:08):
All right, very good, Yeah, we'll go in terms of
getting those nominations through, we'll keep eyes on that through
the afternoon here on Newstalk z'b as well and National
Intercenter competition as well.
Speaker 3 (03:20):
Yes, a national interesting to coming back to Wellington next week.
We've got twenty five men's and women's teams from around
the country. This will run from Sunday to first Thursday
to Sunday, with the finals and semi finals then played
at nine I on Sunday. So the region's welcoming the
beach bowlers from around the country, so there's a lot
(03:41):
of good bowls to be played over those four days.
On our women, they begin their campaign on Thursday. They'll
be at nine I on Thursday, Island Bay on Friday
and Wilton on Saturday. Trying to get out the take
the top two out of each section and then these
section is a tough one which includes Canterbury which is
led by current blackjack Taylor Bruce and also why Kaddow
(04:05):
in the section which is current national singles champion Gab White,
So a tough section.
Speaker 2 (04:09):
To get out of. So we have been played some
pretty good bowls over those those days to get out
of there. And the men they were space to playing
at Massiev on Friday when they start, but that's been
changed to split them split this one so the singles
and people will be at Stakes Valley and the fours
will be at still Stream on Friday, and they had
up to Paparam Beach on a Saturday to finish the
(04:32):
section play and again another tough section for these guys
includes Taranaki and we play Taranaki a lot, so we
know what they are capable of. But also Southend wore
very strong led by Sheldon Backery Howell is current news
on Blackjack and Aiden Takerilla who finished runner up in
the national sorry the World Championship champions Singles earlier this year.
(04:54):
So a couple of tough sections for the Wellington teams
and of course the Wellington men are going for three
in a row, so are they going to be ended
up to the weekend.
Speaker 1 (05:02):
All right, yeah, looking forward to watching that take place
over the coming days. Well jays lot's happening on so
many levels and all our very best all the Wellingtonian's
taking part in those national level tournaments and of course
locally for everyone at Into Club today as well for
the playoffs. So thanks for bringing us up to speed mate.
We'll chat again next Saturday.
