Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's begun our Saturday regular club sport previous for the
weekend and we start with bowls as always. Jason Puddock
swung by the studio as always, Monte.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
Jason morning Adam.

Speaker 1 (00:11):
Another weekends here we go. But let's look back firstly
and lower huts after ours Open Fours has taken place.
Give us some of the results for starting with the.

Speaker 3 (00:19):
Women's Yeah, so this was played last weekend, got through
the weekend nicely, whether it was really good on the
last couple of days.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
In the women's quarter finals we had.

Speaker 3 (00:28):
Christine Gosling from Miramar beating faey Cox from t Taybay
seventeen to fourteen, Helen King of Victoria beating Kath Thompson
of Plymington nineteen eighteen, Aliet Tavulu from nine I beating
Kaiwong from Pattoni Central twenty two eight and Rosanna Murowai
from nine I beating Pat Povey of Tawa twenty to ten.

(00:49):
So in the semifinals we had Helen King beating Christine
Gosling twenty two to nine and Rosanna Muroway beating Alie
Tavulu winning the Battle of the nine IE teams here
fifteen on an extre end.

Speaker 2 (01:01):
It was a tight game. Arlie had picked up five
on the last thing.

Speaker 3 (01:04):
To get to an extreen, but unfortunately went down by
one and that left us in the final. We had
Rosenna Murowai, Lil Renata, Anne Robinson, Karen Ewett from nine
I squaring up against Helen King, Jane Henderson, Jackie Foster
and Robin Rental from Victoria. Helen King on thirty four
titles going for thirty five unfortunately came up a little

(01:26):
bit short and the nine iteeen took that one out
twenty two to fifteen. That gave Rosanna her fourth center title,
Lil her second, and great Ann and Karen who won
their first center titles.

Speaker 1 (01:38):
I of all well, congratulations to them and the nine
I club. And over in the men's.

Speaker 3 (01:43):
Yes and the men's we had Alex Rennie from Silver
Stream beating Barry Brown of Island Bay nineteen eighteen, Logan
Aymer of Johnsonville beating the defending champs also from Johnsonville,
Phil Todd sixteen to four, Peter Ballinger of nine I
beating Peter Rental of Island Bay seventeen to eight, and
Blake Signal of Stakes Valley beating Ben King of Victoria

(02:04):
seventeen sixteen. In the semifinals, we had Logan Ama beating
Alex Rennie eighteen fourteen, and the other semifinal Blake Signal
beating Peter Bellinger eighteen eleven. That left us with the final.
We had Blake Signal, fim Bar mcgwig and Mike Carroll
and Sonny White from Stakes Valley up against Logan Amer,
Craig Walker, Trevor Ross and Brady Amer from Johnsonville, with

(02:28):
the Stakes Valley team coming out on top fifteen eleven.
So that gave Blake his second title of the season
after winning the mixed pairs a few weeks ago, and
gives them title number twelve overall. Fimbar picks up his
sixth title, Mike picks up his ninth in Sunny White
stepping in for Caleb Hope at the last minute on
Friday Night, picks up his first Center titles.

Speaker 2 (02:48):
So great win there for Sonny.

Speaker 1 (02:50):
Yeah, great, and congratulations all of them. It's a real
haul of combined titles, isn't it.

Speaker 2 (02:55):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (02:55):
Look, I went through some of the numbers, especially on
the ladies' side, and there's some really big numbers Helen's
actually chasing down Judy, how which is two titles behind
her at the moment, so suld be no doubt looking
for those two later in the season.

Speaker 1 (03:08):
Yeah, fantastic. All right, let's move on to looking ahead
the New's only Community Trust Para Bowls Wellington Championships. Tell
us a bit about these jays.

Speaker 3 (03:16):
Yes, is one of our new events that we've added
to the calendar this year. So that gets under way
at nine to eye today. We've got players coming from
obviously Wellington, players from christ Church Hawks, Bayan Y Katto
as well joining in, so it's great to see players
from outside of the center coming and participating in the singles.

Speaker 2 (03:35):
A couple of standouts there.

Speaker 3 (03:37):
We've got Darren Willin and Peter Horn who played each
other recently in the christ Church at christ Church in
the New Zealand Para Bowls Championship with Darren winning that one.
So a couple of players to watch there. That's on today.
On Sunday the Peers take place. Those two will be
playing again with different partners. We also have Anne Baker

(03:57):
who recently won a bronze and the Peers down in
christ Church, and another one to watch out for is
a Richard Warwick who's a well known identity in the
power of bowls, and in bowls a man who's completed
the New York Marathon and the Mountain Run on the
Coast to coast in his career, so that you'll be
looking to add a bowls title to those two great events.

Speaker 1 (04:19):
Wonderful, all right. And that's across the weekend and also
further north the Oceania Challenge.

Speaker 3 (04:24):
Yes, so this is kicked off on Thursday, and that
involves nine nations from around the Pacific. We've got a
New Zealand under twenty sixteen, the Australian Pathways team, the
aytroa Maori team, a team from Newway, Cook Islands, Samoa, Tokilao,
Tonga and Norfolk Island. So a great mix of Pacific

(04:47):
island countries there. It brings quite a colorful event to
be played.

Speaker 1 (04:53):
How big is bowls in some of those countries.

Speaker 2 (04:56):
Not overly big.

Speaker 3 (04:58):
A lot of those players will be BA in Australia,
all New Zealand, so they're sort of drawing from from
not necessary in their own country, but players from that
are associated with those countries.

Speaker 1 (05:09):
Nice and a few Wellington players spread across those coming.

Speaker 3 (05:13):
A good number of Wellington players in the New Zealand
under twenty sixteen we've got Finn bar mcgwigan and Jordan
Keane and they're also joined by two Australian based Wellington
players being Seamus Curtain and Natasha Russell. And in the
a Era are Mary team we have Lisa White playing
for Tonga. We have the husband and wife duo of
Ben and Helen King for Tokelel again a husband and

(05:35):
wife team Alietta and Ralph Fulu, joined by Joe Motty
and Eliafosio. And so they'd be good, quite good to
watch those those events that will be on Sky Sports
this afternoon at around four point thirty and on Sunday
around four thirty you'll see the final of the fours
and the pears and the triples.

Speaker 1 (05:54):
Right awesome. Yeah, the coverage that I think Bowls has
led the way with streaming options and and TV coverage,
hasn't it over the years. It's been ready impressive and
seeing other sports slowly catch up.

Speaker 3 (06:04):
Yeah, Look, I think they've taken bolts. You take great
advantage of YouTube, right, and that's where they've they've set
up their platform from there, I remember it wasn't that
long ago. A few years back, they were filming the
Nationals with a with a cell phone essentially on a stick,
you know. And they've invested time and money into getting
some really good equipment. Now they can produce their own

(06:27):
product and it's a great quality product, and then they
can sell it on to the likes of Sky Sports,
which actually opens up that sports a lot more viewing customers.

Speaker 1 (06:36):
Yeah, exactly, brilliant stuff. All right, Well, the big weekend
are heads are up and up in Auckland down here
in Wellington as well at the nine o'clubs, So good
luck to everyone taking part. Thanks as always Jason, Well
see next.

Speaker 2 (06:45):
