Speaker 1 (00:00):
Looks they'll be eighteen away from nine, bit later than usual,
but let's preview the day's action in Wellington Club Cricket.
The Sun's out. Matt Wilson from Cricket Wellington back with
us morning, Matt, morning, how are we good? Thanks? All right? Well,
we'll get to finding out the latest champions in Division
two in just a moment, Matt. They had their T
twenty finals last Saturday. Let's start though the Top Division
Premiere one men's cricket Matt. And there'll be a few
(00:22):
rounds into the one day competition, now, weren't they.
Speaker 2 (00:24):
Yeah, that's right. Two rounds in so far and onto
round three today. Just to go through some of the
results from last week, which was officially round four if
we take into account the T twenty they've already played.
But the second round of their fifty Easts were up
against Tony. That one was at Kilburnie Park and East's
got a very close whin there by just twelve runs
(00:47):
over Tony. So Tony really did battle but just couldn't
quite get themselves over the line and fell away towards
the end. So East will be rapped to get a
close win there and get on the board. Heart District
they played Karori up at heart Wreck, Karori getting a
two wicket win in that one, so that's two defeats.
Now for Heart to start their fifty overs the Peace
(01:09):
Cup holders, so they'll be looking to almost certainly get
back on track today. And Upper Hearts they were up
at Barton Oval again it's time against vic Uni. They
got a fifty five run win against vic Uni dere
so good win for Upper Heart to take them to
the top of the table. And Onslow and Tider they
had a bit of a run fest at Nionville Park,
(01:29):
but Onslow getting getting over the line there by eight wickets.
So after two rounds the table is starting to take shape,
but it's very close indeed, Upper Heart leading by a
points over Easts and then Krori and Zack on five
rounding up that top four. But yeah, just only a
couple of points separating sort of the top sticks at
the moment, with Hart and Patni yet to yet to
(01:51):
trouble the scorers with two defeats as we move on
to the next round round three today, Karori they're up
against Onslow that one at Karrori Park, so Karori's first
first home game of the season Tighter they take on
Upper Heart that one at Fraser Park. Tighters also their
first home game this year and Vick they've got Easts
(02:12):
at Calbourn once again. First home game for Vic's a
few first first home games today for a few of
the clubs and hut District they're back on hut Wreck
again and they're hosting per TONI all.
Speaker 1 (02:21):
Right, looking forward to those games getting underway and well
this time last week, Matt, there are still a few
teams in the running for the Premiere two T twenty
competition and of course, by the end of the day
champions the Crowns.
Speaker 2 (02:35):
Yeah, that's right. Johnsonville were crowned Premiere two to twenty champions.
They went through the entire round robin unbeaten and then
managed to get past their semi final and final opponent
to lift the silverware. So they'll be stoked to get
off to a good start to the season. They've certainly
got ambitions to get promotion this year, so they'll be
very very happy with that result. They their semi finals
(02:56):
up against Wellington Collegians and they won that one by
six wickets. Alex Moore Park and the other semi final
it was North City against Sri Lankans Sports, and we
should be noted here that North went into that one
very much a strong favourites, having finished seconds behind Johnsonville,
and the Shrilankan's got an outstanding result there, winning by
six wickets. North had made one to eighty one and
(03:17):
in reply the Srilankins got home with just under an
over to spare, so they were, as you'd understand, very
happy with that result to make the final. And then
later in the afternoon Johnsonville, as I've said, did get
over the line in the encerely comfortably by thirty six runs.
But the Sri Lankan's in their first season and Premier
Cricket are certainly asking a few quest questions and battled
(03:38):
incredibly hard, so they should be very happy with the
performances they've put in so far.
Speaker 1 (03:43):
Yeah, great, it's good to hear, all right. And Women's
Division one, where are we at with that?
Speaker 2 (03:47):
Matt yep? So we move on to another round of
T twenty today for the women. They are up at
Trenton Memorial Park for a one of their festival rounds.
For that is back to back T twenties morning and
afternoon quickly on last week for the women. It was
a win by eighty five runs for North City against Collegians,
so that the defending champions getting back back on the
(04:10):
scoreboard and back to winning ways after an opening day defeat,
so they'll be happy there. Good win for them. Johnsonville
City Suburbs did battle. City Suburbs got home by four wickets.
There they go top of the table and Upper Huts
and Potoni they were at Trenton Memorial with Patoni getting
an eight wicket win. So a couple of the teams
that lost in round one managed to picking up manage
(04:32):
to pick up wins in round two, which has made
the competition naturally very tight after the first couple of rounds,
which is great to see. On to today in that
festival round we have got the morning fixtures. North City
up against Upper Hut, City Suburbs there against Collegians and
Potoni played Johnsonville and then in the afternoon Johnsonville are
up against Collegians, Upper Huts against City Suburbs and Potoni.
(04:53):
They clash with North City, which of course could be
an interesting one with based on the battles they've had
in a few finals over the last few seasons.
Speaker 1 (05:01):
A great all right, well, plenty happening and we they're
looking pretty good to so Matt, you have a great
weekend to appreciate your time as always and we'll chat
neck Saturday.
Speaker 2 (05:08):
Absolutely. Thanks, Thanks Adam.
