Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's the return of the Hottata Highland Games. There's been

(00:03):
a real Scottish theme this half hour, hasn't there? Back
to do battle? Craig manson Morning Bard. How many is
it for you?

Speaker 2 (00:10):
Now? This will be my ninth ninth Games. It'll be
the eight years as a pro.

Speaker 1 (00:17):
Yeah, right, and what have you got lined up for tomorrow?
What are the challenges ahead?

Speaker 2 (00:23):
It'll be a big day. A few Australians coming over.
We've got yeah, well we've got the classic Kibatis, We've
got you know, a few different stones. We've got the
Manhood Stone, so those heavy stones onto barrels, farmers walks
and yeah, so a lot of fun.

Speaker 1 (00:44):
The Manhood Stone. Explain that one a little more for us.

Speaker 2 (00:47):
Yeah. So that's a range of five stones from ninety
kilos which is the first stone, right up to one
hundred and forty five kilos which is the last fifth
fifth stone, and you've pretty much it's a timed event
and you've got to just load the stone onto on
top of the barrel and you know it gets heavier.

(01:11):
I think it's ninety and then one hundred and twenty
one thirty one forty five and that's right at the
end of the day, after you've already competed for about
seven hours.

Speaker 1 (01:20):
Oh mate, and it'd be hot work too if the
forecast does ring true. And then are you doing all
this and you're and you get up, you're kilt and
your big socks.

Speaker 2 (01:29):
Yeah that's the Yeah. The mckensey McKinsey kilt is the
one that I represent. So yeah, it is a sports
kill though, so it is a lighter weight. It doesn't
have the full.

Speaker 1 (01:40):
What they had these different types of kil.

Speaker 2 (01:43):
Yeah, that's right. Yeah. Sports Kills is an American company
that most of us wear, and it's just a lighter
weight kilt, doesn't have all the buckles stuff.

Speaker 1 (01:52):
Ah right, the Scottish equivalent of lycra I love how
the Scots have managed to make a sport out of
pretty much anything.

Speaker 2 (01:59):
Yeah, well, I think I think anything can move sport
if there's alcohol or whiskey.

Speaker 1 (02:06):
It originated a wee bitter hag us there too. Do
you compete solo or are you part of a team solo?

Speaker 2 (02:12):
So it's there's about eight of us in the open
or pro division tomorrow. And it's similar points to like golf,
like the lowest, the lowest point, we'll take it out.

Speaker 1 (02:24):
Gotcha, and then remind us again is this a punintended
stepping stone? Is this qualification for something?

Speaker 2 (02:31):
No, this is actually the Oceania champ So this is
one of the biggest games in both New Zealand and Australia,
so it's quite a big one and it's quite lucky
to have it just up the road as well.

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
