Speaker 1 (00:00):
Was also a lovely evening for one of the highlights
of the year for me, tootling on down to the
showgrounds for the County Lions. Toot for attuckn now in
its twenty fifth year, collecting across wide Ashburton, Lake Hood
and Hines and operation that organizer Julie mckimmey says, continues
to grow.

Speaker 2 (00:19):
It's huge now and there are so many different groups
from the community who come in and help us. So
it's just amazing the number of people have been here tonight,
so very very thankful for that.

Speaker 3 (00:30):
Yeah, it's a well oiled machine and the County Lions
are the ones that certainly help bring it all together.
That must be a bit of an effort behind the scenes,
just even put the tables out in the signs.

Speaker 2 (00:39):
Yeah, we've been here since about three o'clock this afternoon
and there's a couple of months of just organizing things.

Speaker 3 (00:46):
So remind us again, how are we helping tonight?

Speaker 2 (00:49):
So the food is going to three food beats, So
it's the Presbyterian Supports, Vincent to Paul and Salvation Army.
So they'll come in shortly and load up their trucks
and bear and trailers and off theago with all the
boxes of food.

Speaker 3 (01:03):
So I noticed that property brokers are so generous they
must donate the bags. Is that they went out with
the courier a couple of weeks back, and then you've
got a table over here of the ladies folding the
bags almost like bed sheets.

Speaker 2 (01:15):
What's happening there, Well, we're saving the bags. They'll be
recycled so the food beats will get some, and then
we save some for our projects during the year, so
that you know, they get used a game.

Speaker 3 (01:26):
I almost had a heart attack, and I'm blaming the
baby brain. I've got a bit too confident with the saucers.
I had about five or six tomato sauces lined up
and almost lost. And I didn't though if I had
of what I have been the first.

Speaker 2 (01:38):
Ah No, that's why we have one or two rubbish
bags down here to pick up the messy things.

Speaker 3 (01:45):
Yeah, and the mop and bucket. Seemfully that hasn't had
to come out tonight. It's not, no, and I'm glad
I kept it that way. Another novelty of the night
has been working alongside the cadets. There's been a number
of times I've been referred to as sir. I could
get used to that.

Speaker 2 (02:00):
It's one thing I've noticed tonight. There are a lot
of children working here and from different groups around town,
Mayfield's School. All of those people have come in and
the children's menners have been just lovely, you know, pleases
fair Cus And.

Speaker 3 (02:17):
On this occasion, I feel like it's more forced moseur
from Soesai Rogers, but hey, I'll take it. It's still flattering.
Closing comments, she's doked.

Speaker 2 (02:24):
Absolutely stoked. I always am at this time of the
night when you see the stacks out there that have
been all organized, but it's not an easy time for
people these days. And just to see everybody and hair
helping and parents and children together, it's great. No, it's
been really good.

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
