Rob Aldridge - Armistice Day

It's Armistice Day - the 11th hour of the 11th month marking the end of WW1 back in 1918. There's the chance to reflect on that this morning at Ashburton RSA. Luke caught up with President Rob Aldridge for the deets.

Welcome into Amistere Day marking the end of World War One,
and from an Ashbert at Arisa Rob Aaldridge.

Morning, good morning, Look how are we doing?

Speaker 1 (00:10):
You're good? What's the day? I mean for you?

Speaker 2 (00:12):
So it's a very poignant day obviously Amasturs Day, so
it's the official end of World War One, the eleventh hour,
eleventh day, eleventh month, nineteen eighteen. So it's a yeah,
very poignant service of a small service at the Ashbert
and RSA. But as I said, still by no means

(00:33):
anything less than what it should stand for. Yeah, it's
a global obviously the UK we just had it on
Romote Sunday, so obviously many people probably would have seen
it on social media for a very large turnout. But yeah,
the Ashbert and RSA we just have a small poignant service. Basically,

(00:54):
it's yeah, quite special.

Speaker 1 (00:56):
Let's taught the details on that in a sick But
it must have been such a surreal feeling after four
years of fighting for the guns to fall silent all
at once at the at the moment in.

Speaker 2 (01:07):
Time, correct, correct, it would have been. I mean we
can't even begin to imagine nowadays what everybody went through
at that time. And yeah, yeah, something you just can't comprehend.
You just can't.

Speaker 1 (01:19):
Comprehend in such a steep price paid. So we can
reflect on that at the I say, I'm assuming it's
eleven o'clock this morning.

Speaker 2 (01:26):
Yes, so eleven o'clock this morning to put people normally
start to turn up by quarter to eleven, ten to eleven,
and then yeah, we have two minutes silent at eleven
o'clock and then the service will begin.

Speaker 1 (01:41):
Have you got a special gift speaker or somebody on that?

Speaker 2 (01:44):
So this year we'll have our new mayor, e. Lizabecmillan
and she'll be laying one of the reefs as well,
and then we have Sergeant Ruby and Darrell retired he
was there last year. He'll be doing a speech as
well and obviously laying a wreef. And then we have
Elizabeth from the Sally Army that we're doing a short

(02:07):
prayer and reading. And of course obviously we have the
Army Cadets and the Egg Debts making us proud as
normal with their doing what they do. So yeah, like
I said, it's just a nice service, it really is.

Speaker 1 (02:22):
How long do you expect it to go?

Speaker 2 (02:23):
For? Rob on ourverage anything from sort of like fifteen
to twenty minutes, so again by nomanlessness, not a long service,
but as I said, it's just a simple service, just
to commemorate those that pay the ultimate sacrifice and for.

Speaker 1 (02:38):
Those who do have a little bit of time are
The clubroom is going to be open for a week.

Speaker 2 (02:43):
So afterwards there'll be a morning tea for anybody that
is there an attendant so people are more than welcome
to come back to the club after for a cup
of tea. I'll be something to eat, or even the
beer if they fancy it.
