Jack “Ranfurly Shield” Taylor touches down — and Southland is fizzing!

Fresh off the plane and carrying the mighty Log o’ Wood, Jack Taylor landed in Southland with the Ranfurly Shield in hand — bringing it back to the south for the first time in years. I caught up with him at the airport, and it was exactly what you’d expect: the boys were buzzing, the region was electric, and Jack was right at the heart of it all.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
They have just touched down at the Invercargo Airport. I
would say, I mean, winning the ran Furley Shield is
pretty bloody special, but celebrating it right, well, that can
only be done one way, and there's only one man
who's leading from the front, taking charge of the celebrations.
Jack Taylor, Mate, how are you feeling?

Speaker 2 (00:18):
Yeah, I'm feeling pretty good, to be fair, I didn't
get to heap asleep last night, but no, going good
and ready to go celebrate a bit more tonight, I
think rightly. So it's unreal to have the shield back
down here.

Speaker 1 (00:31):
It would have been incredible to be up in Hamilton,
you know, on Sunday night. That would have been unreal.
The changing rooms. I heard morts and spars crew snuck
in to do some celebrations. But talk me through that
plane ride you there was other people, not Stags players
on that plane where he's pretty cool come and collected

(00:52):
coming back down south.

Speaker 2 (00:54):
Or was there a bit of fizz.

Speaker 1 (00:55):
Going on around in the air.

Speaker 2 (00:57):
No, we keep things pretty harm on the way back
down to be boys are all probably pretty dusty and quiet,
So no, we hit it pretty good on the way
back down here. But no, we had some good celebrations
last night up there. Aaron Pinna opened up his spats
Ale house for us and keep it open quite late,
so that was real good.

Speaker 1 (01:12):
And then obviously the word went out. Spoke to a
very well I'll throw them under the bus Dusty Morgan
Mitch this morning and he said, you know, three thirty
bea at the aport, be there. Did you expect what
you just walked into?

Speaker 2 (01:26):
Yeah, it's unreal. Well, I remember when we when we wanted,
like years back, when I was a week kid, and
you would have been like, yeah, I remember coming here,
and you know it's unreal to actually done that. Now
as a player, Ye're just so proud to be south
from there, and you know, it just shows how much
it means to the people. People turning up here on
their Monday afternoon to welcome my son, and we're just

(01:46):
extremely proud to have it down here and we'll be
defending it like a life depends on it this weekend
against Kennedy.

Speaker 1 (01:51):
And over the wind in the gale in the crowd,
could you hear your anti Kim screaming from the car park?

Speaker 2 (01:59):
You can hear you who we are?

Speaker 1 (02:00):
Thank you Aley? Did you hear at Hamilton. All right mate,
we are so proud of you, not only the job
ended up there bringing that shield home, but the way
you boys are just representing it and so proud to
bring it home to I think that's what it's all about.
So hey, embrace every moment and just just celebrate the
like Phone and Jack Taylor can shill you

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
