The forecast isn't looking too bad for what's arguably Auckland's biggest events weekend of the summer.

Thousands are expected to descend on Eden Park over the next two nights, to see country music star Luke Combs.

The city's also placing host to Sail GP over the next two days and Auckland FC is taking on Melbourne FC at Mount Smart Stadium tomorrow night.

MetService forecaster Hordur Thordarson told Tim Beveridge it should be a mostly settled weekend for most parts of the country, including Auckland.

He says there'll be an easterly flow, reasonably warm temperatures and the odd shower, but lots of fine spells as well.

What's the weather today looking like?

Speaker 3 (00:30):
Well, we're still in this easterly flow. It's windy up
in the north in Northland and rain up there in
the far North. Other places are a lot calmer. It
is a little bit warmer than it has been. We
can expect quite high temperatures in inland parts of the
South Island, maybe even towards thirty degrees for places like

(00:52):
One o'cut today, but there are likely to be showers
in many inland places.

Speaker 2 (00:58):
Wanaka has been pretty greedy with being the place today lately,
hasn't It's what's the outloo for the weekend and Monday being.

Speaker 3 (01:07):
Well over the weekend well tomorrow there is a front
that comes on to the south of the South Island
that could even bring rain as far north as Monica,
So rain then in Southland and Otago, but other parts
of the country should be pretty much fine. With some
afternoon showers farming inland. On Sunday, there are some showers

(01:32):
around the South Island and they could also be rain
in the far North. But otherwise there's an easterly flow,
reasonably seasonably warm temperatures and the odd shower, but a
lot of fine spells as well.

Yeah, where's the place to be over the weekend? How
would you go if you could just beam there instantly?

Speaker 3 (01:55):
Yeah, it really looks like Taranaki should be great. Also,
maybe part of the upper South Island, the coast, say Westport,
even Nelson could be really nice. Those areas would have
light winds and really nice warm temperatures.

Good stuff. Hey, thanks so much for your time.
