Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hi, and welcome to If These Walls Could Talk, the
Razine podcast where we discuss ideas on decorating, color and
all things paint. Join us as we welcome guests from
across the world of design. If there's something you'd love
to hear about, email the team editor at habitat bar
Razine dot co dot nzat. Another one I really like

(00:23):
is the back of doors. I love the back of door.

Speaker 2 (00:25):
You took an interior door.

Speaker 1 (00:26):
Interior doors, Yeah, exterior doors. That's another thing too, because
you can choose to wrap that color around on the inside,
or you can actually choose another whole color that works
with the interior scheme. So that's the back of the
front door. You can talk about that, but you can
talk about the back of other doors as well. Yeah,
because that's actually a really nice surprise, little gift that
you can give to other people in your household. But

(00:49):
just coming back to that little thing that I wanted
to talk about. Smooth Surface sealer, Okay, the wonder product.
It creates a coating that allows paint to adhere to
things that are problematic otherwise then you just get your
little test bot or your whatever you know, and you
just slap it over there, and all of a sudden,

(01:11):
it's like taking the duckling and turning it into a swan.

Speaker 2 (01:15):
A gay weekend project.

Speaker 1 (01:17):
Yeah, another good weekend project that sounds great, and another
weekend project.

Speaker 3 (01:21):
Obviously, we've all got walls that are housing a few imperfections.
What could we do if we don't feel like really
prepping the entire wall of the entire room.

Speaker 1 (01:30):
So maybe you've got a wall that's a bit shabby,
so you're not really in the mood for a lot
of preparation.

Speaker 3 (01:39):
Razine effex, how would you recommend people use Razine FX
paint effect medium. I mean, I do know that some
of our listeners will be going, oh my gosh, it
sounds great, but.

Speaker 2 (01:48):
What do I do? How do I make it work?

Speaker 1 (01:50):
It's super easy. All you need to do is put
down a base color or you might even have an
existing wall bas color that will work really well. Then
choose one or two different colors. But maybe that are
tonal two so from the same family, Yes, from the
same family. So say, for example, you might choose something

(02:12):
like a color like a beautiful blue like caught a
new denim blue or new denim blue is a nice
sort of deep bas color. What you do is you
you have that bass color. So you've got razine New
Denim blue or razine court New Denim blue.

Speaker 2 (02:27):
Ye.

Speaker 1 (02:28):
Then you get a pot of this paint effex. In
this case, I might go for something like dusted blue. Oh,
Razine EFFIX Paint Effects Medium with razine dust and blue
and razine New Denim blue.

Speaker 2 (02:43):
Yeah, that we think.

Speaker 1 (02:43):
Yeah, so the new Denim blue is a solid color,
then I use as a base. Then I get the
dusted blue that's mixed in the paint effects.

Speaker 3 (02:53):
So you put your razine dust and blue into the
lit of Rezine EFFX Paint Effects Medium.

Speaker 1 (02:58):
But you don't need very much. You only need it's
about I think it's about ten to one, right, So
that's ten parts of Razine FX Paint Effects Medium to
one part of color effex is the big lot. Yeah,
So pour that into the pot. Get a good big
lot and then just mushing a bit of your color,
stir it around and it kind of looks like some

(03:19):
kind of weird almost luminescent.

Speaker 3 (03:23):
Sitting pasty thing, right and then sounding exciting.

Speaker 2 (03:27):
It is.

Speaker 1 (03:27):
It's super exciting and you can't, like, you can't make
a mistake with this stuff because you just keep working
it until you're happy with it. At this stage, what
we've got is we've got the wall with the solid
color that makes that that's dried totally dry, that's caught
a new gend and blue or new gend and blue.

Speaker 4 (03:44):
Right.

Speaker 1 (03:44):
Then we've got a pot with this luminescent Master stuff.

Speaker 3 (03:50):
So you've got the RAZINEFX Paint Effects Medium, and you
mix that with razine dusted blue.

Speaker 1 (03:55):
The dusted blue dust, the blue sted blue.

Speaker 2 (03:57):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (03:57):
And then as another domination to this little sort of
thing I'm cooking up for you here, I would get
another little pot and I'd put the same amount of
ex liquid luminescent stuff in there, and then I'd smush
in something like a wonderful color called half inside Back. Ah,

(04:19):
so really cool little light kind of color. So I've
got so I've got like few colors.

Speaker 3 (04:24):
So with that razine half inside Back, you're putting that
into the Razine EFX Paint Effects Medium. Again, the ratio
is always much more Razine Effects Paint Effects Medium to
the Razine colors.

Speaker 1 (04:35):
The joy of this product is that it gives you
the time to actually work the paint without it kngealing
and setting straight. Yeah, yeah, so's there's different sort of
variants of paint effects which give you more time or
less time. And the guys again in the color shop
are the kings and Queens of advice. They are the

(04:57):
Razine Color Shop team, always there to help you out,
especially with any weekend warrior ideas. Now we've talked about
some possible ideas for interior walls, what about exterior ideas?
What could we do there over all weekend? Quite often,
like people will have maybe pots and plants and things around.

(05:18):
Those are a really super easy, nice project to create
a bit of connection. And we might have some kind
of mismatched collection of pots, you can actually make it
all look purposeful and beautifully curated by sealing it with
some sealer from Razine.

Speaker 3 (05:36):
So when you when you're thinking about choosing colors for
those you're talking about the front door. What do you
think we're seeing trendswires and front doors these days?

Speaker 1 (05:43):
But there's a lot happening. There's like the nature driven
colors that we're seeing come through in trends, you know,
and like with the trends that we research, we look
at the overarching macro trends that tend to run the longest,
and those can and you to be nature driven, So
you're looking at beautiful nature inspired blues and greens that

(06:05):
are often quite great off. But then beautiful stone colors,
also earthy ocah colors, the yellows and gold.

Speaker 2 (06:14):
Oh yeah, like razine hot toddy and razine canary.

Speaker 1 (06:18):
Huge fan of those. And like a little bit of sunshiny,
happy yellow on your front door. Who can't love that? Gorgeous?
Absolutely gorgeous. Now that just leads me into your trend's work.
Tell me a little bit more about what you do.

Speaker 3 (06:33):
How do you select the trends of color for the future,
Like what are we going to look forward to seeing?

Speaker 1 (06:39):
Really, it's about how we interpret color and what we
find will be most livable and lovable, because everything we
do is all about making sure that people love the
ideas that we're presenting. It's definitely an organic process. It's
sort of a continuum as well, because none of us
are repainting our homes the whole time time, like my

(07:01):
possessed hallway gallery wall.

Speaker 2 (07:05):
Just for our listeners.

Speaker 1 (07:06):
Mine is of course referring to the color razine possessed
on her hallway gallery wall. It's a wonderful, rich, complex charcoal.
On the opposite side of my gallery wall, I've got
what would be one of the tried and tested favorites,
which is razine tea. There's a beautiful, rich color called

(07:26):
truffle and it's got it's one of my favorites across
all of its variants. And when we're talking about variants,
we're referring to, you know, whether it's quarter, half, full, double,
you know, so strengths. So Tea and truffle tried and tested.
But are they trending, Well, yes, they are because they're

(07:46):
also part of the warm neutrals. I think. The other
thing is to blues and greens continue to be really
really popular in interiors.

Speaker 3 (07:55):
They're so livable, yeah, and they're part of the new
neutrals palette.

Speaker 2 (07:59):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (08:00):
So I think again it's a progressive thing with color people. Perhaps,
you know, like a really nice step into inviting more
color into your home is to pick out an accent
wall and to pick a place where you can actually
try the color on see if you enjoy it, Yeah,

(08:21):
before you perhaps spread it further through your home or
create some other connections to that color and the existing
color scheme.

Speaker 3 (08:30):
It's great, isn't it, Because I think we need to
feel connected to color and we need to feel like it.

Speaker 2 (08:34):
Resonates for us. So I think it's a wonderful idea
that you're talking about.

Speaker 1 (08:38):
And you know, just coming back to your earlier comment
about the end of your hallway sort of thing or
around the corner a little surprise, it'd be so lovely
to see that, and you can over a weekend you
can jump in and go, I'm going to paint that
wall a surprise color or create your own artwork as well.

Speaker 2 (08:55):
I mean that's been happening quite a lot, hasn't it. Yeah,
People people love the test pots.

Speaker 4 (09:00):
I mean we are very very spoilt in the studio
for you know, like we try and spread things around
and we spread them far and wide because it's one
of the luxuries of the work that we do that
we have these wonderful little test pots that you know,
they just it's like marmite, a little goes a long way.

Speaker 2 (09:19):
This is true.

Speaker 3 (09:22):
But it's wonderful because you can create, like of an afternoon,
you can create a beautiful piece of wal art that
perhaps could just create a real focus in your home,
but or as a surprise, as you were saying, you know,
just around the corner at the end, you create this
beautiful wal art that you possibly hadn't thought about doing.
I think sometimes people get a little bit nervous and
they're like, oh, you guys can do that, but.

Speaker 2 (09:43):
I couldn't do that.

Speaker 1 (09:44):
But I think they can, you know, with a little
bit of understanding of how things work, you know, understanding
as you were saying earlier about getting the right tape,
making sure you get the right tape, getting advice about
how and when to take the tape off. I mean,
I got to say I've done it before, and you
go take the tape that was too late.

Speaker 2 (10:01):
You're taking half of the paint with you. So again, always.

Speaker 3 (10:04):
Ask at your Razine color shop. They are absolute, they
are a wealth of knowledge.

Speaker 2 (10:08):
They're about how and what to do the other.

Speaker 1 (10:10):
The other thing I really love and I think you
know in New Zealand and Australia we don't realize that
with Razine we have got a global leader when it
comes to information about surface coatings and sharings and the
wonderful we call it collateral, but it's you can get

(10:33):
a brochure on just about anything from a Razine color shop,
and you can get inspiration and get your own fan deck. Honestly,
best investment you'll ever make out their next nothing and
the fun you will have with that fan deck, Oh
my goodness. The other thing, just dipping back to talking
about trend is you know you might fancy something that

(10:55):
you haven't got. I mean, you know, don't we all
archers have been trending for for quite some time.

Speaker 2 (11:01):
And love painted ut beautiful, it's quite European.

Speaker 1 (11:04):
Can paint it. You can paint your own arch, you
don't have to have one to get one. You can
actually paint an arch into a wall space. You can
maybe put one of those beautiful little floating shelves into it.
We've done a few what I would call you our
studio projects where we've done exactly those kind of things,
and I'm shocked myself at how easy it is, and

(11:27):
it's so easy. So just one thing that I do
think would be really helpful to share is when anyone's
looking at the the project images in the studio, in
the habit and created by our Habitat team, then those
are actually all created in one day before our shoot.

(11:49):
So if you think that you can't do something on
a weekend. It's something that our tiny little team of
dynamos who are all supercharged on razine color. That's us
we like we Yeah, we do have coffee as well,
but we are super charged on razine color. We can't
wait to whack it up and see where we're going
with it. But we do all of that in a day. Yeah,

(12:12):
I mean that's actually something. Obviously we have a team
of highly skilled professionals, but you can do something in
a day. We just we just want to know what it's.
You know, it's really nice that you say we're highly
skilled professionals, but we actually just a little bunch of
can do problem solvers. Yeah, and we all work together
and so anybody can do it. Honestly, trust me, it's

(12:34):
not that hard. Just go to the color shop, take
the photo, take a photo of what you've got, take
a photo of what you want, and magic get to creating.

Speaker 4 (12:45):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (12:45):
Boom. Another thing I just want to just talk about
quickly is another really good little weekend project is frames.
Like you know, there was there was a whole kind
of period where people used mirrors a lot in their
homes and to create a sense of space and distance
and mirrors are great for that, but if you want
to actually bring that forward, then you can actually just

(13:08):
use paint. And do you want to go for something
like a kind of greeny gold or another secret thing
I have to share seen rust effects?

Speaker 2 (13:21):
Oh wow, yes, good.

Speaker 1 (13:23):
Now, this is a special product that is really good
to use on surfaces that are non contact. So over
time it just gets better and better and better and
the beatina develops. So do a little test first, do
a little test test on a pot.

Speaker 2 (13:42):
Yeah, so it's not.

Speaker 1 (13:42):
A spot, So how do you do that? I mean,
how would our listeners create that? So they've got their pots,
they've got their razine FX faux rust effect. It's used
a lot on guard and trims and things. It's it's
there's there's a whole kind of trend in itself. So
you can just use the But just if you want
to try it at home, just wack it on a

(14:03):
pot or a frame and watch it develop over the
course of days weeks. It just gets better and better
as it ages.

Speaker 2 (14:14):
Sounds brilliant.

Speaker 1 (14:15):
Well, thank you so much for joining us more on
if these Walls could talk and sharing your wisdom about
wonderful ideas for what you can do over a weekend
and thank you for joining us on if these walls
could talk. Remember to send those questions through to editor
