Speaker 1 (00:04):
Good afternoon. I'm Malcolm Jordan and this is your midday
news fix for Monday, the seventeenth of November. The Prime
Minister says foreign interference is happening at a massive scale.
Australia's spy chief, Mike Burgess, has accused Chinese sponsored hackers
of attempting to infiltrate their critical infrastructure and has warned
they now face a threat of high impact sabotage. He

(00:26):
referenced Salt Typhoon, which saw Chinese sponsored hackers penetrate the
US telecommunications network for a strategic spying operation. Chris Luxon
told Mike Cosking, we've been too complacent. We are doing
everything we can to make sure we toughen up our defenses.
You're seeing us get sensitive about the Cook Islands because
we have security intelligence responsibilities there. Police say it's too

(00:49):
early to determine the cause of a fatal house fire
in one o Vertu Sanson. A man and three children
died in the blaze on Saturday, with investigators still looking
for the body of one of the children in the wreckage.
The father's death has been referred to the coroner. Area
Commander Inspector Ross Grantham says, it'll take some time to
figure out what happens.

Speaker 2 (01:09):
We are having to keep you go through the whole scene.

Speaker 1 (01:11):
As you can imagine, it's pretty risky with part of
the structure still there and the dust that's generated from
the fire. Many New Zealand schools and early childhood centers
have been forced to close today for urgent asbestos testing.
It comes after the last week's recall of a number
of Kinetic sand products. MB says anyone who has those

(01:31):
sand products at home should also stop using them immediately
and get in touch with their council for advice about
safe disposal. Katrina Lowe, the Deputy Chair of the Australian
Competition and Consumer Commission, has been speaking to the ABC.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
Asbestos is a problem when it's inhaled and that means
microscopic fibers. There isn't an indication that that is what
we're dealing with here.

Speaker 1 (01:56):
The Police Minister says his priority is delivering on government
its promises over the jevn mcskimming scandal. An Inspector General
of Police is being established after an IPCA report found
senior officials failed to act on sex allegations against the
then Deputy Police Commissioner. It says executive leaders prosecuted a
woman for harassment without investigating her serious complaints. Minister Marc

(02:21):
Mitchell says works already underway to enact the report's nineteen recommendation.
I know this has rocked the nation and it is
absolutely right because of the behavior. That behavior does not
reflect ninety nine point nine percent of their frontline police officers,
non sworn or sworn. Police have charged a fifty seven
year old woman with murder after the death of a
man in Kaitaia yesterday. Police are continuing their search today

(02:44):
for a man who went missing in a boat off
the Funga A coast on Friday. Their boat and the
body of another person were found on Saturday. One person
has died following a single car crash in Natawawahia, north
of Hamilton. Emergency services were called to the sea about
eight pm. Real Estate Institute data shows housing sales rose

(03:05):
steadily in the year to October, up six point four percent.
The median house price has fallen just over one percent.
To Sport. Henry Nichols has been called into the Black
Caps as cover for Darryl Mitchell ahead of Wednesday's second
one day cricket International against the West and Desit Napier
Mitchell's getting scans on his groin. Jarlick Sinner has clinched

(03:25):
the season ending EIGHTP tennis men's singles title in Turin,
beating Carlos Alcoraz in straight sets. And euphoria from the
Island football side after clinching qualification for next year's World
Cup with the last kick of the match in a
three to two win over Hungary via Group f action
in Budapest. I'm Malcolm Jordan. That's your latest news fix.

(03:47):
We'll be back with the next update at five pm
from the news Talk ZB newsroom.

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
