Speaker 1 (00:02):
Welcome to Radio Hodar Keys Off the Record podcast with
Greg prim Let's have a chat with darts cured to Clark.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
Yeah mate, thanks for having me.

Speaker 3 (00:12):
Yeah, no worries, so great to catch up with you
once more. You guys have been traveling the world.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
Yeah, this is true. The Darts Boilers have become international sensations.
In the past months, we've done a couple of tours
of Australia. We've played in the UK, which was pretty
out there, and Germany, which was kind of even more
out there, got pretty.

Speaker 3 (00:29):
HICTI can you say hictig in German?

Speaker 2 (00:33):
I can't speak an your German, but I can definitely
say that we were very lucky to make out of
out of Berlin. I think we were there in two days,
and we lost two passports, a wallet, no, two wallets,
and we also lost by other band members of Berlin
for about twelve hours, which was pretty terrifying. But you know,
we all made it up. The passports weren't located after

(00:53):
a long long search, and yeah we're back. We're back
in beautiful is it today?

Speaker 3 (00:58):
You found the missing badman, but you didn't have to
replace him with some guy called Klaus.

Speaker 2 (01:03):
Yeah, welckily did dance up Sanga was Unfortunately he was
earning the thirst that day. He was walking the streets
of Berlin after a night at a some kind of
German technic club. We're an unbroken in dock Martins, which
I would not recommend to anyone who was halfway through
a European tour.

Speaker 3 (01:19):
That's right. I like the way you just dropped and
earned the first which is the title of one of
your songs, created after a party in Dunedin, I believe.
But so right, there's adventures in Berlin. The UK. Where
did you go to there? Was it London or was
it further Afield.

Speaker 2 (01:33):
We were all over the place in the UK. We
did London, we did flash it on the South coast,
and we even made it all the way up to Glasgow,
which was awesome. I think once you cross that border
and you get up into those kind of scenic areas
up there in Scotland, they really starts to feel like
you're in New Zealand again. And they've kind of got
that same attitude of just king to Chilean and have

(01:54):
a coal time, as opposed to English people who are
pretty intense, but Scottish people and it's like you're in
like Temabru Cargo or something. They're just they're ready to
get on it.

Speaker 3 (02:02):
And while you're away, a certain eccoade came through. You go,
so nominated for this year's Silver Scroll Award.

Speaker 2 (02:09):
This is true. I think we're yeah, we're a bit
surprised and see there coming. I would have normally lost
a songwriting first band for a songwriting award and maybe
Antics first or you know, bear, but it was pretty
it was pretty awesome. We're pretty honored. And there's some
pretty big guns in the list of twenty nominees as well,

(02:30):
so we were stocked as Yeah.

Speaker 3 (02:32):
Well, let's take a look at why this has been
deemed one of the twenty best songs in the country.
From Darts his Paradise Clark, just before we go into it,
is there anything we should know before we hit play listen?

Speaker 2 (02:45):
We kind of like to think of the song paradass
bit of a summer song, and I know, you know,
we're all holding out for summer, so maybe let's just
keep that in our hearts right now. You know, we're
only ten weekends away from I think the sun setting
at seven pm, you know, so just imagine you know
we're ten weeks from now. You're in the bank when
cruising down no traffic. That would be a first. No
traffic a round Papama. You're check in the summer. That's

(03:05):
what I want everyone to carry in the house.

Speaker 3 (03:07):
Oh, this is a dream. No traffic in Papa More.
Let's do it. It's done. It's an eadache.

Speaker 4 (03:28):
The smell of fin who bombs he's a Summarius just beginning.

Speaker 2 (03:33):
You and your friends look like a cold because you're
around here dressed in linen.

Speaker 1 (03:38):
There's a big asshole in on the sky.

Speaker 4 (03:40):
So I got the ESPs fifty slip slap slapping my
way out to the Bay of Plancy, Resuce racing. God,
it was nice summer Presus crashing Hodies. God, you don't
an so pas off trashing. Got it feels nice, So

(04:05):
be so trashing. You look telling your nose hit us
because you think weeds are blowing him.

Speaker 2 (04:27):
This town is bad architecture. Here's a great place to
be blows Hill. You know your pouse a stolen land.
So we're gonna reclaim the beach.

Speaker 4 (04:36):
Now, I'm a wee lost that spread out of my.

Speaker 2 (04:40):
Nineties David dig no beach shack.

Speaker 4 (04:42):
I love be soup trashing bars gonna feels nice. Don't
peace off trashing Paris gotta feels nice.

Speaker 2 (04:53):
Coll be soup trashing down.

Speaker 4 (04:57):
God, it feels nice. Fellow be so tra said backs

(05:35):
who I want be sot Si sing back.

Speaker 1 (06:25):
It's already I heard. I think that's Darts and Paradise.

Speaker 3 (06:28):
And we're lucky enough to have Clark from the band
on a zoom with us now, Cuder Clark, thanks for
bringing us at tune.

Speaker 2 (06:33):
Thank you so much, Matte not with Stokes, thank you
for playing it.

Speaker 3 (06:37):
Yeah, oh Worries. It's been on our playlist since you
guys released it, and some other people liked it as well.
Because it's it's in the top twenty of the Silver
Scroll Awards for this year. Musicians from all over the
country vote on what gets into the top five. Have
you been encouraging all your mates to amuseos to vote
for it.

Speaker 2 (06:56):
Yeah, we have. But here's the thing, it's not a
lot of I made some musicians. You know, we're not
I want to say we're the We're not. We're not
a musician's band, if you know what I mean. We're
a band of the people. So it is a bit
hard for an award that is mostly voted by other musicians,
who are, you know, a lot more concerned with your
your fine tune details of your songcraft and your fine

(07:18):
tuned elements of production, et cetera. You know, we're just
getting in a room and smashing some rock music out,
so we'll see if they're like it. Hopefully there's some good,
hard working musician Kiwis who can you know, swing it
right our.

Speaker 3 (07:33):
Way, some real backbones of the music industry. Is that
what you're saying exactly?

Speaker 2 (07:37):
That's what I'm hoping there is out there. You know,
I don't want to be carried I don't want to
I don't want to say data the you know, I
don't know what's the piece of what's the piece of
the backbone the sternum is that I don't know. I
don't want to say that darts sternam in the New
Zealand music industry. But I'm hoping that someone else, can
you know, get in behind us and help us carry
this load.

Speaker 3 (07:54):
Who are you up against? Who are some of the
other other finalists.

Speaker 2 (07:57):
I think I've read that Stan Walker's got four nominations,
so I mean, you've got to start there, which is rough.
You know, he's a bit of a titan in the
New Zealand music industry. Obviously king of woman are we
I think at this point. So that's that's probably our
main competition. I say it darts for the stanle Walker,
but obviously got a few other heroes in the mix
dateline who are one of our ferite pans from Wellington

(08:18):
and there Banko Skiller from Auckland that we're good mates
where they also aren't there. But yeah, it's kind of
a bit of a I wouldn't say who's who, but
like a who's up next? I reckon that Silver s
Girls list. It's pretty cool, pretty cool to be on
it for sure.

Speaker 3 (08:30):
And when do you find out who's won?

Speaker 2 (08:33):
The finals are October the seventh in Wellington at Sant
James Theater. So I'm hoping that we can make that
top five. You know, see the darts boys and some
custom line brown suits on the red carpet. That is
the dream for me. We'll see if that happens. I
won't get the Tayloring done yet, but you know, fingers
crossed that we get some we get a good result
and we can alf be there for the Grand Final.

Speaker 3 (08:53):
Previous years it's been in Auckland, but this year, how
handy that it's in your hometown in the capital city.

Speaker 2 (08:59):
Exactly, I can. I mean, you know, if they do
put us in that top five musicians, all I'm going
to say is, you know, we've got where the perfect
people to host out after party. The Lion Browns will
be in the degrees or ready to go, you know.
So yeah, fingers crossed a right.

Speaker 3 (09:13):
So that's October. Anything happening between now and then for darts.

Speaker 2 (09:17):
Yeah, So we just announced this week we're heading off
for another big Australian tour Indo August start of September.
We're playing with a couple of bands called Fiddler and
Jim Rats, who are like, it's kind of you. It's
a little bit of a dream couture for us because
it's kind of like the the bands that listened to
just before we started this band. So it was very
very kind of full circle and good advice for us

(09:39):
to get asked to go play that. And yet that's
our next kind of a month and a half is
doing some Australian to our own.

Speaker 3 (09:44):
Yeah, Fiddler and Junior, it's so good bands man, and
where are you going to go with them? Where about
some Australia heading.

Speaker 2 (09:49):
To pretty good. It's like not just the main centers,
but it's got some places and they've got gender buying
and they're a bit of a ski resort area I think,
really got Talkey and on the Victoria we've got kings
Cluff I think, and South of the Gooka, so kind
of getting all over the place.

Speaker 3 (10:05):
Wow, you really are getting to see some real backbone
Australian places, aren't you. You're going to get out.

Speaker 2 (10:12):
We've only done for Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne so far. So
stops to see a little bit more of the country
and probably not geting by a spider, but come close
to it.

Speaker 3 (10:21):
The look out for the snakes too, and then home
for some summer shows perhaps.

Speaker 2 (10:26):
Yeah, that's the that's the plan. I'm trying to line
up some horrifically small talents to punish the boys thinking
about Whys or thinking about doing Greymouth. You know, I
just want to get out there and you know, show
these people who don't normally get rock shows. You know
that someone's to win it. So that's that's my plan
for summer, is doing some doing a small kind of
talents and just having fun and backing up a van

(10:47):
and get some startup.

Speaker 3 (10:48):
Well we can well if we can maybe have it
with some suggestions right now, if you're listening in a
small town in New Zealand and you like Darts to
come and play your place this summer flickerstecks now on
three four eight three and we'll pass it on to Clark.
You please all the best for the Silver Scrolls and
for that tour around Australia and everything else that's going

(11:09):
on for you guys. It's great watching you just go
from thing to thing.

Speaker 2 (11:13):
It's a lotto Matt. I think that we have just
so stoked out. So many people around in it have
got in behind us a cier and helped get the
albums number one and all that kind of stuff. It's
been such a cool year.

Speaker 3 (11:23):
Well done Clark from Darts, thanks your time and Hedache.
