New Zealand households have experienced a significant increase in their cost of living over the past four years, led by higher interest rates, transport, food, and housing costs.

2024’s minimum wage rise is one of the smallest in recent decades, when compared to the rate of inflation, from April 1st the minimum wage will lift 2% from $22.70 to $23.15 an hour. So do employees deserve more, and if so how should you go about negotiating a pay-rise.

Annual core inflation dropped from 5.7 percent to 5.2 percent in Q3. Employment dropped in Q3 and pushed the unemployment rate to almost 4 percent.
