Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the All Sport Breakfast podcast with Darcy
Waldegrave from News talks'b.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
Great to Every Company, Nice and earlier this Saturday morning,
January eleven. It's nineteen past six here on the All
Sport Breakfast. Adam Cooper were here this morning talking football
Now week thirteen of the Men's A League. Auckland FC
still at the top of the ladder. Two points is
their buffer though over three teams who are tired on
points per seconds, so pretty congested. Their important phase for

(00:34):
Auckland f C. I reckon to maintain this lead. They
have the trip over to person tonight to meet the glory.
Now that's second to last on the ladder with just
one win. Now the time zones made it a bit
hard to get the team over in Perth. So to
look ahead to this game and just chat with you
know how it's all playing out in the camp. You're
going to catch up with one of Auckland's injured players

(00:54):
who's remained in New Zealand this weekend. Center Back Dan
Hall was having a great strong season for the newcomers
before breaking his ankle just before Christmas. Dan joins us
now morning to you mate, thanks for your time. Firstly,
just wanted to check in and how is that recovery
going after that unfortunate sit back your faced just before Christmas?

Speaker 3 (01:13):
Yeah, no, firstly, thank you for having me on. Yeah,
I wasn't obviously a Christmas present. I was hoping for
to do my ankle the way I did. But reallyhabs
gone well, I'm tracking pretty good, so touch wood, it's
not too long and recovery goes quick and I'll be
back out playing soon. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:31):
What is the latest time frame obviously, you know, I
think initially a few months was said as per broken
ankles normally. What are you looking at at the moment.

Speaker 3 (01:40):
Yeah, so I'm actually one month today down from when
I did my injury. So I'm getting a scan today
after this. Actually hopefully that goes all well and shows
that the bones healing and tracking nicely, and then it'll
be working towards getting off the crutches and then eventually
out of the boot as well. So at this rate,

(02:00):
it's probably another probably roughly eight weeks i'd stay, but
you know, with a bit of luck, it might be
a bit shorter. But yeah, we don't want to rush
these things, that's for sure.

Speaker 2 (02:10):
Yeah, great, well, all the best done with that over
the coming weeks as hopefully get on get on track
for a return very shortly, and I imagine pretty disappointing. Obviously,
you made the move to Auckland FC from Central Coast
and the off season and things were going incredibly well
for you individually on the park as well as the
team in the early stages of Auckland FC's life. It

(02:30):
must have been hard to leave and have to tap
out while things we're looking so strong.

Speaker 3 (02:34):
Yeah, you know, obviously I wanted to play my part
for the team. We're doing very well, and you know,
I was really enjoying my time playing with a new
team and a new environment. But I mean, this is football.
These things happen. There's a lot worth going on in
the world than me not being able to play football
for a couple of months. So you know, it's just
it's just a little hurdle that I'm happy to get over,

(02:55):
and you know, I'm just here for the team and
you know, there's doing me proud, so it's good.

Speaker 2 (03:00):
Yeah, what were you enjoying about the team? You're obviously
able to play a pretty pretty big role getting some
good game time. So with the systems under Steve Kreker,
they were complementing you pretty well.

Speaker 3 (03:10):
Yeah, definitely. You know, I think with this team, first
and foremost is good people involved. So that was the
main thing, a big thing for me when coming to
a new team. You know, you want to be welcomed
and it's hard sometimes settling in, but I settled in
pretty quickly just you know, with good people around me.
So yeah, and obviously they're good talented footballers as well.

(03:30):
You know, you can see the local New Zealand products
and also with the mix of foreigners as well, it's
a good mix and you can see by the results
that they're doing something right.

Speaker 2 (03:39):
And you'd be happy watching on to see the twenty
eight getting the win against your old team over there.

Speaker 3 (03:45):
A yeah, yeah, it was obviously ideally I would have
liked to be a part of playing in that game,
but you know, I was very proud of the boys
to get the three points over my old team. I
have a lot of great mates in that old team,
so yeah, it's a bit of a bragging right, you
could say.

Speaker 2 (04:01):
Yeah. We hear a lot of about the mental impacts
of players that have to set out due to injuries,
and especially at the start of an exciting new season.
It must be hard for it to all just suddenly
pause for you. How are you able to remain involved
with the team in some capacity, especially when they're back
at home and preparing for home games. Is that sort
of a role you're sort of trying to figure out
just that you can stay involved in some way?

Speaker 3 (04:22):
Yeah, I think, you know, the club's been very good
in keeping me occupied and helping me with my rehab program.
I'm in most mornings with the team. Obviously when they're
on the pitch, I'm in the gym, so you know,
they're keeping me busy, and yeah, it's just good to
be around the team still, even though obviously I can't
be out there on the pitch with them, but to

(04:43):
you know, have some sort of impact on the team
and being around them it's you know, helps recovery go quicker.

Speaker 2 (04:49):
How did the team cope with that? You know, they
were on such a good run, unbeaten through so so
long through the early stages of the first season, then
that four nell defeats to Western Uniteds at home, and
then more recently the nil all draw, so you know,
there's been a a few slight blips. How has the
team responded to those after such a dream start.

Speaker 3 (05:10):
Yeah, you know, I think credit to Hamish, our mental coach.
He does a lot of things behind the scenes with
you know, just mentally fortifying the mind if the team.
I think obviously football, football has its ups and downs
and you can't always win every game unless although we
will always want to win every single game, but you know,

(05:31):
that's football. And I feel like after that loss against
Western United, the team really bounced forward, not backwards, so yeah,
you know it's just a it was a little blimp.
But you know, the results are tracking well and I
think the performances are coming along nicely.

Speaker 2 (05:46):
And Perth glory for the Saturday night kickoff late one
for us in New Zealand time. But from your experience
and the league, what is the key to making that
long trip to Perth and hopefully coming away with four points.

Speaker 3 (05:59):
It's obviously a long travel and yeah, it's it's time
zone adjustments, but I think that's the beauty of football.
You know, you get to experience different challenges in such
a single game. So it's yeah, I think they're looking
forward to the challenge ahead and looking forward to trying
to get those three points.

Speaker 2 (06:17):
And as the team sets that are still at the
top of the late latter at the moment, what is
the biggest strength approaching this next phase of the competition
where I guess maintaining the lead at the top is
probably a focus for everyone.

Speaker 3 (06:30):
Yeah, for sure, you know, we want to win games.
We said that from the start and obviously Perth you
know they're not as high up on the ladder as
they would like, but we don't take that. We don't
take that easy on any team. You know, we're prepared
to fight all ninety minutes for the points, and yeah,
we don't look too far ahead, and you know, we
stay humble and just work towards getting the three points

(06:51):
each week.

Speaker 2 (06:53):
Yeah, brilliant. Well, leaving forty five kickoff New Zealand. Time
for the game, Dan, Really appreciate your time here on
news talks. He'd be good to hear the recovery as
sort of on track and taking those early boxes. So
hopefully we'll be seeing you out on the field soon.
But appreciate your time and your thoughts and have a
great weekend.

Speaker 3 (07:07):
Appreciate that. Thank you very much.
