The Auckland Aces have beaten the Central Stags by 91 runs in the men's one-day elimination cricket final in Dunedin.

The Aces made 327 for nine off the back of an impressive 128 from all-rounder Jimmy Neesham.

Then they bowled the Stags out for 236 in the 44th over, with Neesham taking three wickets.

Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the All Sport Breakfast podcast with Darcy
Waldgrave from News Talks EDB.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
Seven forty five The All Small Breakfast on News Talks
EB to Cricket We Go Now final coming up tomorrow
in the Ford Trophy. It's between Auckland and Canterbury and
oddly it's in Otago at the University of Otago Oval.
What a beautiful ground that is as well. We're joined
now by Jimmy Nisham, who helped Auckland pull apart the

(00:33):
threat of Central Districts. They won by ninety one runs.
Jimmy joins us nag morning.

Speaker 3 (00:40):
Good morning. How are you going to us?

Speaker 2 (00:41):
I'm going very well. I'm looking forward to tomorrow's game,
the traditional rivals a Canterbury taking on Auckland after you
guys managed to Is it fair to say demolish the
Stags last night because you will look at a little
scratching towards the start of things?

Speaker 3 (00:55):
James, Yeah. I think it's probably one of those games
where you know, you look at the end result and
it's quite a big margin and you think it was
a I suppose a bit of a cruizy victory, but no,
there was certainly some moments in the game where we're
out of the pump and very pleasing for the guys
to I suppose handle that that pressure and sort of

(01:16):
come out and get get the win and then obviously
look forward to the final tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (01:20):
It was great for yourself. What one hundred and one
hundred and twenty eight, I want to say, off only
a handful of delivery, So obviously to your liking. What
clicked for? Do you think?

Speaker 3 (01:34):
Oh, look, I think it was a good surface for
a start. It's sort of nibbled around a bit earlier
we were three or four down, you know, in the
first ten or fifteen overs. But yeah, I wasn't betting
on the same worker that the guys at the top
were betting on. It certainly did flatten out a little
bit under the sun, so I'm very thankful for them
to take the shine off the new ball. So yeah,
it was a good surface. Obviously, been playing a lot

(01:57):
of cricket recently around the world and and sort of
been challenged by a lot of high quality bowlers, and yeah,
I suppose you work on a few things, and yeah,
I've been pretty happy with harbing him the ball. Well, jeez,
for a couple of years to be fair, and yeah,
so obviously happy to have put that together in a

(02:17):
pressure game, I guess. And yeah, the guy's stackers as
well came out and got fifty at the end of
about it incredibly well. And Devan Jacobs, who's yeah a
name you're going to hear a lot of in the
next ten or so years, obviously got a fifty as well.
So yeah, very happy with a couple of young guys
contributing as well, and hopefully we can do the same tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (02:37):
This whole hired gun thing works quite well for you,
doesn't it, James Nation. You quite like the idea of
cruising around the world and no longer having a national contract.
That seems to do the trick for you.

Speaker 3 (02:50):
Yeah, it'd be working better if I wasn't Dubaie at
the moment, but yeah, yeah I think it. Yeah, I
mean for me at the stage of my career, you know,
a couple of years ago when I had to make
the decision, it was a no brainer. Really, I don't think,
you know, you serve one hundred people with that decision.
One hundred people would make the decision I made, so

(03:11):
you know, it's not really a level of regret there.
I think it just is what you have to do,
I guess when you get to the stage of my career,
and yeah, it's an enjoyable way to make a living.
It has its moments. There's obviously a lot of time
away from home and a lot of different environments and
that kind of thing. But yeah, I think it's definitely,
you know, improved me as a cricketer a lot, I think,

(03:32):
especially playing spin, which is probably a weakness of mine
a few years ago. You know, having to go to
Bangladesh and Nepal and Dubai and Pakistan, all these places
you basically can't get runs if you can't play spin.
So yeah, helps in that development a lot. And then
obviously very very happy with Bob Nickel, our coach at
Auckland here is very open to guys like myself in

(03:53):
the finel and pevn Jacobs going out and sort of
playing those competitions and coming back and playing for Auckland
when we can too. Obviously it's working for both parties
at the moment, so long way they.

Speaker 2 (04:05):
Continue defensively, Like with the ball, you didn't do bad
as well, you took yourself a couple of wickets early
on the piece what three for fifty odd, which which
is good going, but you needed to be aided and
a betted by the rest of the team who pitched
in because the final result was comprehensive.

Speaker 3 (04:23):
Yeah, the bowling attack obviously did as well, where we
probably didn't bowl our best against Canterbury you know a
few days ago, and Rang you were it, albeit in
a shortened game. So yeah, we talked around execution and
they're having a bit more intensity and to be fair,
we were really typical Awklanders in the last game. We
kind of rocked up and didn't really have much interest

(04:44):
and didn't do the basics rail and got beaten by
Canabry who did turn up and show a bit of intensity.
So you know, that was a thing that we talked
about before the game today around actually turning up and
showing a bit of fight. And yeah, the guys as
a whole group that they did that really well, which
is obviously pleasing. And now the challenge obviously after you

(05:05):
have a good game to back it up again a
couple of days later.

Speaker 2 (05:08):
And against the team that you fell over against a
couple of days beforehand. You couldn't ask for more as
far as a rematch is concerned, I think this is
on both sides. Both of you teams will be feeling
confident about a positive result tomorrow surely.

Speaker 3 (05:22):
Yeah. Absolutely, you know they've they've earned the right to
be a bit fresher than us. Obviously, they've had a
few days off leading into the game and you know
we're going to have to get a bit of recovery
done today, but that's that's the right they've earned by
qualifying one. So you know, it's a double edged sword too,
where we've got a bit of momentum and played on
the wicked already, so yeah, it's a pretty even matchup,

(05:42):
and yeah, I think it's fair to say as the
two best teams in the competition too. They've got a
high quali line up, a very very good scene bowling
attack with guys that have played for New Zealand recently,
and you know we've got you know, a pretty good
team too on paper. So yeah, it's certainly going to
be a good matchup and yeah, hopefully we can put
another trophy in the cabinet.
