Speaker 1 (00:00):
Mackay on sport with Farmlands protect your crops from nasties
this summer. Well, welcome back to the country. Twenty six
after twelve beautiful day in christ Church for day two
of the Canterbury amp Show. Now this is a great
honor to have him sitting in on the show. He
is believed or not. The Royal Shows Supreme Livestock Judge

(00:25):
Richard Lowe. What is that job?

Speaker 2 (00:27):
Entail? Great title? Isn't it? Nothing? Was taking? What is
it entitle that entitles?

Speaker 3 (00:33):
After each section judge their supreme animal? Which down the
cattle have done? They've done the sheep, the meat and
wall sections. I suppose I saw one out the horse,
the gray. The gray mayor won that or golding? I
think it was one that. So after a get all,
I have to somehow judge who's the supreme of all

(00:54):
the supremes.

Speaker 2 (00:56):
It's a bit of a poison chalice, but it'll be fun.

Speaker 1 (00:58):
Well. I hear that the President of the Royal Show,
Brent Chamberlin, was a wee bit worried that you might
be open for brides.

Speaker 2 (01:05):
I am.

Speaker 3 (01:05):
I am just put it out there. All I've been
offered so far is a cold steiny afterwards, which is
a bit ranked.

Speaker 2 (01:13):
Really it should have been a box at least.

Speaker 1 (01:15):
What are you up to these days? Because you're sitting
in for your good mate Hamish Mackay. Today he's been well,
he's kind of been sinburn because we could get you here,
we weren't quite sure where homeless.

Speaker 2 (01:24):
And much cheaper.

Speaker 1 (01:26):
You're much cheaper.

Speaker 2 (01:27):
Yeah, well he clips the ticket on this scheme.

Speaker 1 (01:30):
I think I figure he owes you somebody.

Speaker 3 (01:32):
Yeah, he does owe me a lot, but he has
to earn a buck somehow.

Speaker 1 (01:35):
Oh well, he's I think he's doing a pretty fine job.
I'll get remains and there he's doing. He's doing very well.

Speaker 2 (01:42):
What do I do?

Speaker 3 (01:44):
We've just built a new home up on the hills
there and just around the corner a couple of valleys
over got a small grazing block of graze, so that
keeps me out of mischief. But then I do a
few days a week for Excel breeding their seamen and
embryo business.

Speaker 2 (01:59):
So what do you do? I'm a Gotha? What does
that do? Go and get the bulls in help with this?
Do that? Fix that just keep you out of trouble?

Speaker 1 (02:06):
Are you getting a bit dry on the porthills, no
or up.

Speaker 3 (02:09):
The top there were still springs, so that's fairly good.
The old porthills have been getting a bit of moisture.
It was North Canterbury that was sort of with that
win the other week when what do they say, seven
hundred odd center pivots lost bits and they were feeling it.
But I hear old David Carter said thirty five meals
up at Catthill.

Speaker 2 (02:29):
That's just up the Hernu, so they'll love it.

Speaker 1 (02:32):
Let's have put on your other hat. As a former
All Black, how do you reckon we're going to go
against England twicking them Sunday morning out of time.

Speaker 3 (02:41):
My big worry is and it's that you take their
first half. Last week they played well, got a couple
of opportunists tries and then they come out after halftime
and if you look at all the Test matches. I
don't know who's saying what in the break, but they
come out for that first twenty minutes half to halftime and.

Speaker 2 (03:02):
They look confused.

Speaker 3 (03:03):
Who do we do we do his suggestions first or
his I think there's too much noise. So if they
can get that play a good first half and carry
on in the second half, we'll be right.

Speaker 2 (03:15):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (03:16):
The England have named a bit of a bomb squad
on the bench six two split. We haven't. And also
they've picked guys like George Ford in the half back
whs name I've just forgotten. Ben Humphrey might better help
me here. But they've picked aerial specialists, so our back
three are in for quite a big day at the office.

Speaker 2 (03:35):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (03:35):
But the old story, Jamie, even at your high level,
if you gain the ball, you retain it. Eventually you'll
score a try if you're going to kick it away
all the time. That's what I can't put up with
their box skating all the time. Keep the ball in hand,
have faith in your ball carriers and keep on, keep
on and put them under pressure because you look at that.
The reason they've got a bomb squad is their starting

(03:57):
fifteen players are not good enough to play eighty minutes.
We see fellas like Cameroy guard Richie Mccaorr always did
it played eighteen minutes eighty minutes. If you're playing well,
stay out there and do the job.

Speaker 1 (04:08):
I absolutely agree with you on that one. You and
I are probably rugby dinosaurs now.

Speaker 2 (04:12):
Lowe and Garry.

Speaker 1 (04:13):
Yeah, but I mean, I'm with you. I think that
the bomb squad it's a fifty to fifty proposal at best.
Why wouldn't you keep the ball in hand?

Speaker 3 (04:21):
Yeah, And if you're putting it in the air like
that and contesting it, there's a good chance someone will
be taken out. And I know they were just coming
in in my day, but really yellow cards read cards
were shockers. And you know the way the referees or
those individuals sitting up in the office watching it second
time round, the consistency is that poor

Speaker 1 (04:43):
Okay, Richard Low, thank you very much for sitting in
for your good mate, Hamish mackay mckaye on sport for
you here on the country

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
