Speaker 1 (00:00):
From the cricket field to the cow shed.

Speaker 2 (00:02):
It's the Country Sport Breakfast with Brian Kelly on gold Sport.
Joining us this morning, Jason Walls out of the Pals
in Wellington News Dog Zby's political terday morning.

Speaker 1 (00:13):
Jason, Good morning, b K. How are you doing?

Speaker 2 (00:15):
Yeah, great, mate. I guess there'll be quite a bit
of interest on the British elections. Labor expected to win
in a landslide over there.

Speaker 1 (00:22):
Oh, absolutely. I think it's it's interesting with Europe because
Britain's going one way politically and it seems like the
rest of Europe is going another way entirely. And back
home in New Zealand, I mean, we obviously have quite
a connection to the UK, just culturally, and so we
tried to get the Prime Minister on this yesterday, say, oh,
who would you want to win? So, Kia Steimer or

(00:43):
Rishi Sunak and he wouldn't give an answer either way,
but you would expect it, you know, him being a
conservative and Rishi being a conservative. You'd probably prefer Rishi
was in. But you know it's the sort of thing
he says he could work with anyone. And it's the
same over in the US where the question is a
little tough of Biden or truck and he said it's
sort of the same thing there. But yes, no, we'll

(01:05):
be watching that one with great interest today.

Speaker 2 (01:07):
And the Prime Minister, I believe, is going to NATO
next week. Hopefully not in one of our Air Force planes.

Speaker 1 (01:15):
No, no, no, he's going on the Air New Zealand
and New Zealand flights to get there. So he's leaving
on Monday going along as well. So I'm pretty sure
I'm on the same plane as him, so if there's
any issues, I can let the population know from the
plane if it's got free WiFi. But yes, he's going
over to the NATO summit in Washington, d C. Where
he I mean if the UK elections are obviously going

(01:38):
to be wrapped up by then, so so Keith Steimer
might actually be there as the British Prime Minister and
he might secure a meeting for the first time, so
that would be very interesting for the Prime Minister. Obviously,
New Zealand, being a Commonwealth country, would be one of
the first on the lists for the new British PM
to meet. Chris Luckson's also talked about hoping to get

(01:59):
to meet Joe Biden as well, not in any sort
of formal bilateral meeting, just in maybe like a pull
side in the corridors of the unit of the Natal summit.
But honestly, you know, at this point it might it
might be fine to miss that meeting, is all I'm saying.
I'm depending on how things go in the US election.
So yes, he's leaving on Monday morning and coming back

(02:21):
on Sunday, and then he's doing a stop in San
Francisco as well. So it's all on for the Prime
minister next week.

Speaker 2 (02:27):
Yeah, it's all on for you as well. Hey, I
want to ask you about the Greens now, we're still
waiting for the report to come out on Darlene Tana.
Is there anything being done or said about that?

Speaker 1 (02:38):
Well, not really. I mean this is really unprecedented that
this is taking this long. I mean it's now been
more than one hundred and ten days that a sitting
MP has been away from Parliament on full pay under investigation,
and so we don't know what's going on. We consistently
keep asking the Green Party and they keep telling us
that we have to respect the process this and we

(02:59):
have to wait the outcome that. But it's a terrible
look for the party, and we don't know what's happening
behind the scenes. We don't know if Darlene has actually
got her own legal representatives and now is fighting the party.
We don't know any of these questions because we're not
being or the answer to any of these questions, because
we're not being told by the Greens. And I think
it's time for them to really step up and provide

(03:20):
a little bit more clarity because it's just not good
enough at this stage. I mean, it was being paid
for by the tax payer for a number of weeks
in it. I think the total bill was about forty
to forty five thousand dollars. Since then, it's been paid
for by the party itself. So that means that anybody
that's donating to the Green Parties to help their efforts
in terms of fighting the RMA reforms or whatever that

(03:43):
they want to do in Parliament, that money is instead
going to a legal battle with one of their own
bit MPs. Well, we don't know. It's a llegal battle.
I should clarify it, but what's going on behind doors
is not known. So it's a really really bad look
for the party at this day, and I think it's
time that they stepped up and clarified what was actually
going on.

Speaker 2 (04:03):
I totally agree with you. I mean, as you said,
she's on full pie and hasn't been in the house
for how many days one hundred and something.

Speaker 1 (04:09):
Days, one hundred and ten days or so, is that
she's been or maybe a bit over since she's was suspended.
And I'll not like she was suspended because they were
investigating her knowledge of migrant exploitation at her husband's e
bike company. So there was no it was never anything.
There was never any allegations about what she did. It

(04:30):
was more about her knowledge of or involvement with something
which we at this stage we're still in the dark about.

Speaker 2 (04:37):
And yesterday Chris Bishop and the government making the big
announcement regarding housing as well.

Speaker 1 (04:42):
Indeed, yes, there was one of a number announcement of
announcements yesterday. They also had a mental health one. And
even though it's a recess week, it's a big three
week recess plate weeks, so the politicians aren't here, but
they were pretty busy in these making these announcements. So
this one the Prime Minister and Chris Bishop, Bill said
it was designed to spree up more land for housing.
I believe the phrase that was used by Chris Bishop

(05:03):
has flood the market with housing, and you know, it's
easier said than done. I think successive governments have been
trying to do this for many, many years now, and
the way that they're doing it, by trying to eliminate
some of the red tape and working with counsels, you know,
it might work. But and I hate to music clichhe here,
the proof will very much be in the putting in
terms of how it comes out in the next couple

(05:23):
of years. So it's a bit of a wait and
see on this one. I think that most people will
look at any government making moves in the housing space
and say that's probably quite a good idea, but we'll
have to see just how well it turns out.

Speaker 2 (05:36):
Jason, great to chat mate. Enjoy that trip with the
Prime Minister to the US survey and we'll talk again soon.

Speaker 1 (05:42):
Thanks Matte.

Speaker 2 (05:42):
