Speaker 1 (00:01):
Hi, Family Secrets. Family. It's a wrap on season twelve
of Family Secrets, and I'm here to say thank you
for making us the longest running seasonal podcast on iHeart,
with twelve seasons in counting. We're continuously blown away by
the stories we're able to share with you all. It
turns out that family secrets are like snowflakes. No two

(00:23):
are exactly alike. That's what keeps us coming back. But
most of these stories do have one essentral sing in common.
When secrets are kept from us or when we keep
secrets ourselves. The relief and sense making that happens when
we're finally able to truly see what's been going on, well,
it's profound and often liberating. We're getting to work on

(00:46):
season thirteen, which will drop in November. In the meantime,
next week, we have a special bonus episode for you
with the journalist, author and host of the Happier Podcast,
Gretten Reuben. Gretten's most recent book is called Secrets of Adulthood,
and we can think of no better way to say
thank you to our Family Secrets listeners than a conversation

(01:08):
with Gretchen. After that, we'll be back in the fall,
and if you'd like to spend an inspiring weekend with me, Danny,
check out my weekend retreat at Kripalu in the Berkshire
Mountains of Massachusetts, which will be held December twelfth to
the fourteenth. You can sign up for it by going
to criplu dot org that's k r i pa lu

Danny Rider for details and links. Stay cool, stay grounded,
keep your spirits high, and know that together, anything is possible.

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
