Speaker 1 (00:06):
Family Secrets. It seems just about every family has them.
Some secrets are kind of small and insignificant, and some
are shocking and massive. But I know one thing for sure,
when they come out, and they always do, our new
knowledge has the power to change our lives. I'm Danny Shapiro,

(00:31):
host of the hit podcast Family Secrets. Welcome to our
fourth season, launching October one. There are secrets we don't
know how to speak aloud. It was a really strange
way to be in the world, because not only do you
you have the sense of yourself of being different and

(00:52):
having a problem that you can't solve, but you also
have a pretty big secret. You have a an atomic
secret that you don't have a language for. You don't
know how to to share your what's in your heart,
your most fundamental truth with the people who love you.
Secrets we only understand in retrospect. I hadn't really felt
the terror of it, or the recklicness of it, or

(01:13):
the the layers of the danger of that until until
that moment. And it's strange to say it compelled me
to see it, or what force to sear was that
my daughter turned the same age I had bed I
so looked at her when she was set and I
was just like, wait, that's that's a really that's kind
of a crazy thing to do, to set a house
on fire with a kid in it, secrets whose legacy

(01:34):
we have to contend with. When my cousin plopped those
books on the counter, I was shocked. I was horrified.
I was certain I had never seen them. I couldn't
believe that anyone would want to bring them into a
house with this two year old child in it and
let him see them. And I didn't believe that my

(01:55):
father had written them. And she said to me, no jewels,
look in the back and her mom had written written
by George wool on the back so that everyone would
remember plasterity and secrets that shape us from the inside out.
I just felt like I was having an out of

(02:16):
body experience. And the next thing I know, you know,
I realized this man, this pastor, has been talking for
several minutes because I was just like, what's going on?
And I just realized she said, this is my grandson,
said he's from Texas, his mother's do best and he
basically he basically put a curse on my mother, join

(02:37):
me and our millions of listeners. As we dive deep
into the stories of this new season's amazing guests. We
will explore the secrets that are kept from us, the
secrets we keep from others, and the secrets we keep
from ourselves, and most of all, most of all, we
will connect with one another on that deepest level, heart

(02:58):
to heart, and reminded that we're all just human beings
doing our best, trying our hardest, longing to be known
and loved. Family Secrets launches on October one. I can't
wait to share it with you. You can listen and
