Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to Movie Crush, a production of I Heart Radio.
(00:28):
Hey everybody, and welcome to Mini Crush October fright Edition. Nol.
We're getting into it. We're gonna get spooky check. We're
gonna get spooky man, and I looked at the calendar
and this is gonna be out in October, So we're
gonna start with some spooky content. Now. We're gonna also
get back into some of these roundtables for the Friday
(00:49):
episodes which you'll be involved with. I'm gonna get Joe
back in probably and Lauren and Robert Lamb and my
buddy Joe Garden I think is hopefully going to do
another another thing. We're gonna I love this month. You know,
we're gonna keep some spooky content going. Well, Chuck. If
there's one thing I love more than just run of
the milk content, it's spooky content. It's spooky content. Yeah,
(01:10):
so keep it coming. I'm on board. Well, we have
a few things here to go through on the Movie
Crush page, so I say, we don't dally and we
kind of get down to business as they say, uh,
And we're gonna start it off, NOL with a very
simple question, which is what are your favorite lesser known
horror films? Uh? And this is all in the eye
(01:32):
of the beholder, of course, some people's lesser known might
be other people's. Uh. Everyone's seen that, but I thought
i'd throw it out there. Do you have any lesser
knowns Oh? Gosh, um, I mean, I don't know. I'm
assuming by this point the uh my, my horrible attempt
at at at a Chuck's Holes weirdo horror addition has
(01:54):
come out. I really wasn't trying to like overly stump you,
but those are some of my probably le s are
known horrors that are you know, things like A Tale
of Two Sisters, the Amazing Korean Horror and How Sue
And that's not really horror, it's more of like a
psychedelic weirdo horror comedy. But yeah, there's a bunch of
really cool ones that I found when I was young.
(02:14):
A lot of that stuff on that list, Chuck, came
from my, you know, college days of really getting into
Asian cinema. And there's so much good horror that comes
out of Asian cinema that eventually gets sort of half
acidly remade by American directors because you know, we're afraid
people don't want to read some text. Sure, well, here's
the thing, Nolan, I asked um, and it said, it
(02:36):
doesn't even have to be a horror movie as long
as it's scary, Like sometimes a thriller can be super
scary and it's not necessarily thrown into the horror genre.
So I kind of just widened the uh, widen the pool?
Can you do that? You can widen whatever you wish, Chuck,
widen the lane perhaps, Yeah, yeah, there you go, widening
(02:56):
a little bit. So it doesn't have to be horror
exclusive as long as it was kind of scary you Yeah, yeah,
for sure. For instance, we'll start bottom up again. John
Thorpe says Alien. Uh, some people consider that a horror film.
I consider it consider it a sci fi with a
tinge of horror. Yeah, it's scary. Yeah, it's a good point,
(03:16):
like it does feel. I don't know. I think I've
seen it officially categorized as science fiction horror. What I
have not seen it categorized is lesser known, lesser than
what lesser known? Oh that's the category here. No, that
is definitely not lesser now, but you know, who knows?
Maybe Thorpe is from Mars and he does. That's that's possible.
(03:38):
Christie Harrison's Donnie Darko. I'd say that could be a
little lesser known to some people. Perhaps it was. Certainly
it was a called hit and in its time it was. Honestly,
I I I never even notice noticed it getting a
theatrical run. I didn't discover it until it was in
the video store. Yeah, that's not in the theater. And
then I saw the directors cut in the theater too.
(03:58):
I think we've talked about that. Ye. I haven't seen
it in a while, though, maybe I'll pull that out.
This October Kimberly Halloween sequence. There's like a really great
like Halloween party kind of you know, with them riding
around on their bikes on Halloween night and their masks
and stuff. It's yeah, good Halloween. Uh. And at least
in Folly of course. Autumn autumnal that is my favorite
(04:21):
part of the year. When the when the weather story
and Georgia especially, it's such a relief. It broke last week.
It's such a relief, dude. It feels like California weather
for like a month. It's like someone just flicked a switch.
So great, and especially these days, like I think any
change is good. Yeah joke, you know. Uh. Kimberly Crawford
(04:44):
sip tech. Great name, says Cube, a movie I've seen
and I know that you're a fan of. Yeah, I
like Cube. Not a horror movie, It's it's a it's
just such survival kind of sci fi. Yeah, it's definitely
more sci fi, but it's but it leans a little
heavily on the gore and the traps. So it's sort
(05:06):
of like a final destination science fiction thing. Okay, like
you could call it horror. I think maybe a little bit. Yeah,
I mean it was scary. Here's the movie I have
not seen from two thousand two, and this is from
Margie with Tech says Dog Soldiers. Have you seen this movie? No, Soldiers,
(05:27):
I've heard the name and I'm trying to remember film.
It certainly looks creepy. Oh. It looks to be about
where wolves a couple goes camping in the Scottish highlands.
All right, well that's all you need to know. Uh huh,
I mean that's a scary setting. It was. They made
it for two million bucks, written and directed by Neil Marshall.
(05:52):
He Neil Marshall, Right, did he go on to do
anything else? He did the Descents, suh, and this is
what he did this for The Descent, So this is
obviously that one where he made a pretty cool movie
for no money and then people took notice and and
the rest is history. Yeah, the Descent. That was good,
very creepy. Michael Reid says, pen p I N do
(06:16):
you know this movie? These are good lesser knowns everybody.
Nice work, very well done. Oh. Neil Marshall also directed
that Unfortunate. David Harbor hell Boy reboots boy Pen looks
fucking creepy, isn't it something? Isn't there somebody with like
no skin on the cover or something like that? David
(06:37):
Hewlett Ontario quinn, I mean he looks great. Based on
a novel Dr fran oh Man, Dr Frank Lindon has
a life size, anatomically correct medical dummy in his office,
which he calls Pin, and he uses a pin to
teach his children about bodily functions. Oh lord, oh boy,
(07:00):
I gotta check that out. Yeah, looks pretty twisted. Yeah,
this I'm gonna leave this list up. This is good.
This is a good place to go. Unfortunately, the doll
begins to take over Leon's life and his sister's life
as well. No, thank you, but but thank you because
I thank you. Joshua Ramsey says, Layer of the White Worm.
(07:20):
I've heard of that. I'm not seen what I always
saw in the on the video store shelves, because it's
got a very uh sultry, spooky lady on the cover,
if I'm not mistakenly. Yes, you want to be in
her layer maybe potentially Layer of the White Worm nineteen eight. Yeah, definitely,
(07:40):
there's a she kind of looks like Isabella Rosalini, and
she's coming out of like a one of those cobra
baskets that you'd see like in a marm market where
they've got the flute, you know, she's like got the
little lid over her head. I guess she's the white Worm,
but she's wearing a very low cut black dress, so
the title confuses me. And she's in a cobra basket. Yeah,
(08:01):
she's in a cobra basket. Where of the White Worm? Oh,
I see her. Yeah, she isn't a cobra basket. H Well,
that certainly looks scary. She's got big fangs. I know,
it looks cool. Another picture Uh. Here's a couple, Colin
heffern and old pal and Justin Ratliffe, another old pal.
Both say Session nine the movie I loved, knowl and
(08:21):
and very much underseen. I think, yeah, I I certainly
didn't see it, do boy? You gotta watch Session nine, dude,
fucking scary. I haven't seen it in a long time. Actually,
that's when I might dust off this October. And you know,
I say this every Halloween. It's hard. It's hard to
get Emily on board a lot of these movies. So
we end up sort of splitting up a lot during
October because I want to watch these movies on her thing.
(08:44):
Ken Russell directed Layer of the White Worm, who directed
Tommy and You, Altered States and Devil's Yeah. Well known
for directing weird movies for sure. My old friend and
former guest Mike Anderson, says my real old friend in
real life. Clownhouse, Sam Rockwell's debut film and the cause
of many uncomfortable dreams. Do not know about Clownhouse without
(09:08):
the name alone gives me pause? It looks like kind
of a schlocky Uh, like a like one of those
direct to video or uh? Was interested? Interested? Yeah? Grant
Stewart says, has a threesome. I wouldn't see. These are
a little super lesser known, but they're all great. It
follows movie I loved, h the Witch movie we loved
(09:31):
and Bone Tomahawk. Boy, did you ever see that? I
didn't see the whole thing, but I did look up.
I saw the scene. Yeah, we won't spoil it for anyone,
but boy, there's a scene in Bone Tomahawk that I
thought I had seen it all as far as gross
things you can do to a person, but that one.
(09:52):
And I actually watched that scene again the other day
for some reason. It was relevant and uh for Catlan
scary that part was. It's really well done. I mean
it's like us just cutaways really well. And now we
don't want to spoil anything. Just check it out or done.
You see that guy's other films, see like Dragged Across Concrete?
I think is well. We've talked about it with Casey before. Yeah,
(10:13):
he mentioned that in the game, and that's the movie
I have not seen. Was it good? I haven't seen it.
I would like to see this guy's whole cat I
can't remember the dude's name now, and that I'm that
I'm I'm talking about him. I'm blanking on him. Well,
if Casey, uh, Casey loved it, I think that was
a heist movie, if I'm not mistaken, that's right, that's right.
His name is s Craig Zler. Yeah, good things from
(10:36):
that guy. Sam Comber says. A couple of more recent ones.
Oh interesting. Sam has some pretty obscure taste. I haven't
heard of any of these. Uh we are what we are,
jug Face, Baskin, the Ruins, and November, uh five movies
I haven't heard of. Yeah. Baskin is like movie where
(11:02):
these cops essentially descend into Hell and it's got some
real nasty tortury kind of bits and it's very very
intense looking. That's one of those ones that I was
intrigued by enough to read about it, but I just don't.
I don't go out for that super tortury stuff, but
it does. It looked like it was genuinely scary, and
(11:22):
there's a scene at the end that's very similar to
a bone tamahawk that gave me just kind of the
heb gbs just reading about it. So, yeah, this is
a good list, uh man. I can't wait to see
some of these I'm not going to see my wife
for a month. No, yeah, man, let me see here?
Uh sean uh splay splee No, how would you pronounce this?
(11:49):
Give me a spelling s c h b l e
y s blay. I love names like this, No idea?
What are you watching? Are you watching? Watching the clip
and watching the clip of those are some amazing recommendations
and I'm going down a rabbit hole. But yeah, give
me what what does splay have to say? Splay has
to say murdyrs the French version. Yeah, that's another one
(12:13):
of those that's got like a really twisted, funked up
tortury kind of ending. Uh, I know it, Yes, I
do know it. It's um it's It's one of those
ones that it's hard to describe too deeply without spoiling it.
But I will say, if you're a fan of twisted,
kind of nihilistic, existential dread kind of cinema, this is
(12:34):
for you. And if you're not, then it's definitely not.
Here's what I've seen from old pal Trevor Southward. The
autopsy of Jane Doe was so good and if you like,
no one has heard of it. Did you see that whole. No,
I did not. I have not heard of it. I did,
and you know what, it was good. It had a
good set up. I think it fell off the rails
for me a bit, if I remember correctly. I didn't
(12:55):
end up loving it, but it was pretty damn creepy.
Any movie that's sets sort of and an overnight at
a scary job situation, in this case a corner like
one night setting, those are always scary to me for sure.
That's the sort of waiting for the sun to come
up kind of premise. Oh yeah, it's always good, like
(13:17):
running out the clock. It's a perfect such a setup
for like a survival kind of horror type situation. Boy,
here's what I also saw that was really really scary.
Benjamin Clement says, Wolf Creek. Did you see that one?
Nol No, it's about a crazy survivalist kind of grizzly man,
isn't it Australian backpackers? Really really good. Wolf Creek highly recommended.
(13:44):
Lauren Duke says the original House on Haunted Hill. Old
black and white movies are just inherently creepy. Interesting. Vanessa
Lopez maybe a lesser known because it's older, but event
Horizon still holds the crown. It's the scariest movie I've seen. Yeah,
that was a pretty scary movie. I think that one
was so scary to me when I was as I
saw it in the theaters when I was a kid,
(14:05):
and it's marketing really just made it seem like a
sci fi movie, you know, like and and it had
Sam Neil in it, who you know as as Dr
Alan Grant from Jurassic Park, and he just seems like
a real safe character, and in that one he becomes
like this demonic, you know, evil monster creature that's all
cut up and there's there's really fucked up gore in
(14:28):
that movie. It just really was not expecting it. So, yeah,
that was one that I saw probably too early, and
it definitely left an indelible mark on me, no question
about it. All Right, we're gonna finish up with let
me see here Katie Scott way too many account but
as a recent The Lodge, she says it's on Hulu.
The twist at the end was so unsettling. I had
to go watch some old SpongeBob afterwards. The Lodge Boy,
(14:52):
I got a lot of trailers to watch nol Yeah seriously,
and I gotta get a list going. Yeah, this is
a really great list everyone. So I'm gonna leave this up.
I'm gonna take a look at it myself. Yeah yeah, yeah,
good stuff everyone. This was a little bit of a
(15:13):
dark thread, Knel, Okay, but I asked people, what would
be your own personal worst way to be murdered in
a horror movie? Do you have one? I? Um, I
think I've mentioned on the show before. I am very
averse to cutting, Like I don't I don't like slices
(15:35):
in in close ups of it. I don't like throat slashes.
It would be it would be being slashed. Maybe death
by a thousand cuts would be like the worst, the
worst possible way to die from. Yeah, you know, being
stabbed to death might be mine because I don't like
stabby things. That would be really horrific to see a
(15:58):
knife going in you multip times, ah, I know, right, Yeah,
just just the way you said that a matter of fact,
that I'd rather be shot, choked out, pushed off a cliff,
run over by a car. Yeah, I don't think I
want to be stabbed at death. That that's what about
drowned though, Chuck? What about that's a scary one pretty scary.
You have this impending sense of what's happening to you
(16:21):
and then yeah, yeah, I don't know. Yeah, but you
know the thing of being drowned is is eventually you
black out. Um, that's the only merciful part of it.
I think that's what Brooks Hudgens says, actually going bottom up,
being drowned. And I think for a lot of people
that's that's pretty common. Ellis Porters is buried alive. Scott K.
(16:42):
Hill says bone tomahawk, just bone Tomahawk's pretty bad. Uh
oh boy, a lot. It's quite a few people say
eating alive. Michael de Lessandro says, eating alive. I don't
even know what that entails. Like well, I mean because
off parts of your body while you're seeing it happen. Well, no,
(17:02):
like like like a dinosaur or a beast or something
like they start at your feet and they work there.
You know, you're literally seeing yourself being consumed and you
don't die right away. Maybe you bleed out and they
just toy with you or something. You know that would yeah,
like Jurassic Park style, you know, yeah, yeah, that's good. Um.
Ashley Stewart says being burned to death by your own child. Okay,
(17:26):
that's very specific. Sure, well how about this being me
being stabbed to death by ruby? That would be even
worse than regular stabbed to death. Did you get another
one that just well, that's exactly but that to my point.
That another one that really messed me up, and I
think I've mentioned before is the original version of pet
(17:47):
Cemetery with the little cute kid that becomes possessed and
like eats you know, Herman Munster's throat and stabs him
in the Achilles tendon. And it's like that one that's
a bad one for me, that the Achilles tendon slice
is one of the worst, dude, because it's just a
little I feel it viscerally. Uh huh, Well, you don't
want to hear a little fun fact, nol uh. The
(18:08):
other day when I went hiking at Arabia Mountain and
you were there just after me, apparently almost had another
weird bump into each other in the great outdoors Arabia Mountaineer,
where we live and very close to where I grew up.
Pet Cemetery too was filmed there was it really an
Arabia Mountain Those shots of you know, the big rocky cropping. Yeah,
(18:33):
that's cool. Pecimetry two is one that I maybe saw once.
It's not very good and not nearly as scary as
the first one. Um, but it wasn't there, It wasn't well.
I don't think nobody has that scary accident anymore. Uh, yeah,
I love it. Uh canum true X says buried in
(18:53):
slugs while Donald Trump stood over me, laughing holding a
Trump Oh, Heavenly Lord, these buried in slugs. He's buried
And that should be a movie from the eighties, just
called Buried in Slugs. Yeah, oh boy, here's one. Jesus
Justin Wright having to watch my loved ones get tortured
(19:16):
and murdered before getting killed myself. Mm hmm, that's hard
to even think about. Rough rof roff roff Rouff. I
think Justin wins this one. I think so Arl Palevsky.
Austin Deevski says, skinned alive. Uh, those cinobytes are real dicks. Yeah,
I don't know what a cinobyte is. What is that? Oh,
(19:37):
it's well, it's it's the it's the mini version of
a cinnabon. Um, it's a it's just a cinebyte. Now,
the Cinabytes are the demonic race or breed or whatever
of creatures from the hell Raiser franchise. So Pinhead is
a Cinabyte or maybe he's the leader of the Cinabyites.
(19:58):
But they're they're all these sort of dead like leather
boys and girls that they all have like s and
m E type costumes, very leathery, and they're all about
killing you with hooks and chains and uh and skinning. Yeah,
they're all about some skinning is a dark threat. Sherry
Lynch says, drawn and quartered. I imagine that's pretty bad.
(20:21):
Mike Sam says, naked, Do what you will, but please
leave my clothes on. Yeah, there's something about being naked
while you're being killed. It's even more vulnerable and like, yeah, no,
thank you. I don't like being naked anyway, So no,
I'm like, I'm practically one of those never nudes like
Tobias and interested development. Ear old friend Ethan you Evans says,
(20:45):
steam rolled from the feet up. So just yeah, slowly,
just sort of flattened. That's kind of like you alive, yeah,
because that would be a slow death, like you would
have to it wouldn't kill you until it got to
your organs, so you'd have to your feet and legs
and everything would go, and your your pep and your
and your butt, oh my god, and then finally you
(21:07):
would get death. But yeah, that'd be pretty bad. It
would take a while, I got. I gotta wonder like
the threshold for that for pain before you just go
into shock and don't don't know what's going on anymore. Um.
Also how much blood you would lose from having half
of your body steam rolled in that way? If you
might just already be dead before it reaches your like
(21:28):
heart or head? Dark dark Buddy Johnson has thrown from
any height, so Buddy uh is probably scared of heights?
Would be my guess not to get too down. No,
but I had a very good friend that fell off
a building and died, and uh, I have relived that
(21:50):
in my head and what that must have been like
too many times and it's um always been very hard
to except that one of your good buddies. No joke,
I mean just the realization as you're falling of like,
what's happening to you? How are you with heights? Chuck?
Are you do you have a fear of heights at all?
Or you know? I don't have a fear of heights,
(22:12):
but I think everybody gets a little weak need standing
on a tall roof and looking over you know. So,
But I'm not like I wouldn't say I'm afraid of heights.
I'm afraid of falling off of something tall. No, well,
that's just that's just good old self preservation. So what's
what's your deal. I've talked about my my squeamishness with birds,
(22:35):
have I not? Yes, yeah, that link to the heights.
Oh no, not at all. I'm sorry. I thought you
were asking if I had any particular phobia heights. So,
for example, like I really do like roller coasters, but
the part of it that does freak me out is
the height aspect of it. Like I don't particularly care
for the click click click click click click click up,
(22:55):
you know, the steeply inclined ramp. Once once it it's
going and flying and I'm loving life. But there's a
there's a roller coaster at six Flags over Georgia called
the Goliath High. Yeah, but it's particularly high and there's
all these humps, So that one gives me the creeps
because it's more like you said, it's just a feeling
(23:15):
of like, well, if I were to fall from this height,
I would surely die. And there's that apprehension, you know,
it's I think designed that way. That slow climb is uh,
you know, it gets everybody. I think a little thing,
So I think so stuff. But like I had a
friend who had his mom was afraid of heights and
she couldn't stay above like the second floor of a hotel,
that kind of thing. Richard gear and pretty woman was
(23:38):
afraid of heights until Julia Roberts changed his life and
made him trust again. You know, So there's there's always
a way out. Yeah. Garrett Keels very simply says anything
where I didn't know what was happening, Okay, that just
sounds creepy. Yeah yeah, maybe there would be a blindfold
involved or something I don't know, stacked over the head
(24:00):
will be pretty scary. I think having a sack over
your head and stripped down, naked in a room and
tied to something and not knowing what was coming, that's
that's pretty much nightmare fuel Oh god, yes, yeah, no,
thank you, all right, how about a couple of more?
This is this is getting so so scary. Alison Cameron
says burnt at the steak. I have an irrational fear
(24:21):
of this past life. Maybe yeah, being burned alive would
not be fun, and then lots of suffocations and drownings
and being buried alive tortured to death. Let's just put
this one to bed. Oh my god, please bury it
alive for God's sakes, Chuck dymare Fuel. We're gonna move
(24:49):
on to something a little lighter, but still in the
Halloween e vein is. I asked people, Noll, there's a
good thing to finish up with. Just what some of
your annual October scary movie traditions are, whether it's rewatching
something every year or just what do you you know?
Some people might have horror movie specific rituals like I
(25:10):
gotta get that extra thick blanket pulled up all around me,
and I gotta pull those feet up on the couch.
You know, people don't want those feet down there so
the thing under the couch can grab him. Uh. Emily,
I've seen her cover her eyes before. I've seen her
cover her ears before, So some people have stuff like that.
Or no, No, Emily covers her head, which is interesting,
(25:34):
Like she'll put a pillow on top of her head
when she's watching a scary movie. Do you have anything
like that? I cover my ears? Do you I hold
my ears? Yeah? I think I knew that. Actually, yeah,
I hold my ears. And it's really funny because I
don't know if you know about this game the kids
are into. It's called Five Nights at Freddie's. Do you
know about this? And no, this sounds awful? What is it? Well, no,
(25:54):
it's it's it's I mean, it's basically a jump scare game,
um where you're like the night porter or like whatever
janitor or caretaker at this like show Biz Pizza Chucky
Cheese type place, but like all of the animatronic creatures
are possessed by like the souls of murdered you know,
(26:15):
people that I want revenge, and your job is to
like you have these cameras that you can switch to
and you're basically seeing like when they're approaching you in
your room, and you've got these doors and you have
to close them at the right time. I actually don't
fully understand the mechanics of the game, but the point
is when you don't do a good job, the thing
jumps out at you and like, you know, full screen
(26:37):
jump scare, spooky fest and Eden wants me to play
it with her, And yeah, I mean I'm literally covering
my ears as I'm waiting for this spooky animatronic bear
to pop out and like scare us, And Eden's like,
you are useless to me, Dad, Like, I don't like
jump scares. I definitely don't don't a thrill to it,
(27:00):
which is why people indulge them. But yeah, jump scares
are tough. No one likes to be scared. You go
to haunted houses. I was about to say never once
in my life if I really to a proper haunted house.
I've always been too too much of a chicken for it.
But I don't go to those either, Dude, like the big,
the big ones that they put like warehouses and other
(27:20):
another world here is the big one? Not for me. Well,
I just don't like being touched by strangers or the
idea of someone jumping out and grabbing me or chasing
me around isn't appeal to me, not one bit. No, Yeah,
I'm not really into it. I mean I would if
the right group of people went. I think I might
have gone to one in l A one time that
was a sort of a neighborhood one but not for me,
(27:43):
and boy, I could not pay Emily enough money. There's
not enough money in the world to get right at
one of those places. Got it? That makes sense. Glad
we're all on the same page, Chuck, Louie, we cannot
go to haunted houses together this Halloween, all right, So
let's get going on some of these Halloween rituals. Uh
shy Lindbergh says, the shining on Halloween. Benjamin Clement says,
(28:04):
can't go pass Shaun of the Dead. Kathy Fisher interesting
for rituals, she says watching them only during the day.
M hmm. I mean, I get it. It certainly lessens
the effect. But I gotta watch those things at night.
If you're gonna go there, you gotta go there, or
at least I do. Molly Thibodeau, old friend and top fan, says,
(28:25):
I wait until I'm alone like a psycho. For some reason,
I have some wine and all dark. Oh, Molly, brave lady.
Do you like having someone with you or can you
go to Yeah? Yeah, yeah, I mean yeah, I look.
I do like scary movies. I definitely do, but I
tend to kind of um cheat a little bit sometimes
(28:49):
where I look up the big twist or the big
leg jump scare moments so that I don't care fully
fully spood. Yeah. Man, oh my gosh, I'm revealing so
much about myself and then elisode. I do like horror movies, though,
Bonita Bauer Hummel says this, have a mind escape plan
prior to watching, like, have a comedy movie lined up
(29:11):
to watch immediately after the horror movie ends. That's not
a bad idea, No, it's cute. That's good. Like It's
almost like a palate cleanser. Exactly, thanks chuckos. I was
struggling for that. Let me see here. Mark Glaski says
Will Smith's After Earth doesn't get any more horrific than that.
That was a little zing. Mark Evan says we usually
(29:34):
watch Night of the Demon and then follow that up
with a quote scary mystery science theater three K, so
another palate cleanser, of course. Carrie O'Neill, one of our
old pals, says that she watches in the dark, usually
in bed with her husband, and most of the time
a nice alcoholic drink to sip on. Sure, why not
(29:57):
Intrigued by Night of the Demon? Oh, Night of the Demons?
So like a like a teenage slumber party situation with
demons running wild or Old Pal the robester Rebecca Robes says,
I rotate goofy with Spooky and never seen uh and
(30:18):
never seen with Old Faithful's. It's a mixed bag of
Halloween delight in this house minus the candy corn. What
am I a monster? Earl pal Gaston Caroline says this
for all the legit scary horror movies that I adore.
Also have to watch Casper once a year, and we
put on a Simpsons tree House of Horror marathon for
(30:38):
pumpkin carving. That's fun. I love it. We're decorating for
Halloween this year and all we haven't done it in
a long time, but ah, that's fun. We're just trying
to mix it up and do some different stuff. Now,
there's this really amazing local pottery um what do you
call it, like studio, I guess in the hometown of Augusta,
Georgia called Tire City Potters. Uh. They set up in
(30:59):
this old tire like uh storefronts kind of. It's like
a garage that they make bought and converted into this
amazing pottery place and they you know, they are working
artists and make stuff and they sell it. But they
also have a lot of community events where people come
in and they teach them how to make pottery. And
every Halloween they have people come in and make what
they call Forever pumpkins, which are basically just you know,
(31:20):
clay pumpkins that they have kind of designed around this
like particular style, but then the kids can paint them
however they want and the like these jack landers. But
it's really sweet and I think if I highly recommend
you guys check it out. You can probably order online
from Tire City Potters in Augusta, Georgia. Joe Simmary says
Universal Horror Classics on October nice old school. I'm actually
(31:44):
really dreadfully out of touch with a lot of those,
Like I. I think that'd be a fun marathon to
kind of get in there and watch like the old
Frankenstein and you know, the Mummy and all of that
stuff with Boris Karloff and the you know, I haven't
seen any of those. I should check those out. Uh,
Bow just be oh. Bow says this thirteen Nights of Horror.
(32:06):
Uh it's basically a calendar. Uh. And he does this
at his friends at his friends three season room. What's
a three season room. It's a room that you can
sit in every time but winter. Maybe a screened porch.
I've never heard of this before. Yeah, it's a room
for for most seasons, not for all seasons. Like I
gotta I gotta TV on my screened in porch now
(32:28):
so we can do outdoor movies. And it's really great,
and I imagine that scary movies out there would be
even better. Totally. Old friend David Barlow says, my wife
and I watched Tricker Treat and Cabin in the Woods
every Halloween. It's a good one. I sure did like
Cabin in the Woods. I haven't seen Trick or Treat.
That's one that's like a got a couple of stories
in and I think it's like a little anthology situation.
(32:48):
I haven't seen it either. It looks pretty cool, and
I know a lot of horror buffs that have that
pretty high on their list, so I'll check it out
this season. Our old pal The Danger of In Gail
Kuntz says, we always watched the classics Halloween, Texas, Chainsaw,
mascare of the Exorcist, etcetera. I make pumpkin chocolate chip cookies.
I gotta have Sura Patch kids popcorn and plenty of booze.
(33:09):
I'm just gonna move in with Gale and Mark her
I like it, adopt me. I love the idea of
pumpkin chocolate chip cookies that I've never heard really pleasant,
sounds amazing. Yeah, plenty of booze, you got me? Oh definitely.
Uh Luis Silva or old pal Louis says, lights off,
locate my pets so they don't scare the crap out
(33:30):
of me. Well, that's the classic fake out jump scare,
and movies do and they still they still use it
to this day. Is there's like spooky, foreboding doom tone
and then all of a sudden the cat pops out
of the closet or whatever. It's always a cat, though,
it's never a dog. It's always a cat. Yeah. Dogs
are too sweet and come around the corner and lick
your face. All right, let's do a couple of more
(33:52):
of these and get out of here. My friend Sheila
Hartwell says, not a horror fan, but I do have
a few that I will watch. Usually watch Killer Clowns
from Outer Space on Holland mean, I can do Child's
Play or Nightmare on elm Street movies since I watched
them as a kid, and of course anything by Stephen King.
I find movies that, uh, they aren't so bad if
I've read the book already. That's exactly what I'm saying.
(34:12):
I gotta gotta give yourself a little bit of a
leg up so you have like the upper hand for
those jump scares, you know. Uh. And then finally, Jeffrey
Alexander rays Ray says this, I try to start. I've
tried to start some, but my wife is not a fan.
I used to have a hell Raiser marathon, the Big
Three Slasher Franchise marathon and Scream marathons, whichever when I
(34:34):
felt at the time. So, Jeffrey, you can't do this
anymore because he's married. I don't know if I mentioned
this on the show. I think I did. I watched
all maybe not the third one, but I watched the
first two Child's Play movies with my daughter, and she
thought they were hilarious. We just had the best time
cracking out. They are not scary at all. Is that's
(34:56):
clearly this weird little floppy doll, except when he's like
in close up, and he's flying around like he's just
like like this dummy flying around, you know, and he's
jumping at people and biting them and you know, trying
to stab them with this weird little child's butcher knife
for some reason that he has. I gotta see those.
I'm interested to see. Uh when my daughter gets interested
(35:16):
in uh scarier stuff and kind of how she wants
to handle that, I'm gonna I'm just gonna follow her
lead there, you know, certainly not gonna push anything on it.
Oh no, no, no, but I'm not gonna deny her.
If she's like, I mean, I think there's certain age
appropriate movies that she wants to see, slasher movies when
she's eight, I'm gonna say no, not yet, maybe not
maybe not maybe wait till you're twelve. Yeah, but you
(35:38):
know she's into it, she's into it. I gotta follow
their lead. No, you can't keep it from them either,
because they'll just go into it even more hardcore. Yeah
that's true. All right, Well, thank you buddy, and uh,
we've got more scary stuff coming. Um. I would love
to see some ideas, so crushers throw up some segment ideas.
Roundtable ideas. We're always looking to to do new fun
(36:01):
stuff during uh Scary October. HALLOWEENI a month spooky content.
Spooky content, all right, thanks Buddy by everybody. Movie Crash
is produced and written by Charles Bryant and Meel Brown,
edited and engineered by Seth Nicholas Johnson, and scored by
Noel Brown here in our home studio at Pontsty Market, Atlanta, Georgia.
