Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to Movie Crush, a production of I Heart Radio.

(00:30):
Hey everybody, and welcome to Mini Crush number nine nine
number what if it? I mean, I'm a little discappointed
it's not nine. We got a long way to go.
Here's to nine nine. Why do you think all these
red balloons are in here? Is that what color they are?

(00:50):
I'll tell you I'm red deficient. I'm colored deficient. There's
no balloons in here. Oh jeesus, your balloon deficients. So
here we are at the last Mini Crush recording of
our year, which puts this in to be released into
the new year. You were weirdly sitting across from me

(01:10):
because Ramsey is engineering this one. Oh did you hear
that I did? Uh? And uh? Can they pick you
up on that micro ram Yeah, yes, I can. Well
feel free to just fucking join in whenever you feel
like it. Then you have permission to speak. Permission to speak?
Permission granted, because nol is usually over there as the
ros to my Frasier, But we're mixing it up today

(01:33):
because Ramsey was like, Hey, I never do this, so
why not? Absolutely, And it's also the last one of
the year. We were thinking it was gonna be number
HOUNDO No, no, that's later, one later, it's one after this.
But let's maybe maybe maybe the new thing, the new
benchmarks should Why who cares about a hundred? I like
it's a more fun number anymo? No say, we still

(01:55):
got to do make gotta make it to do about
one now to so Ramsey surprised this with some Christmas gifts.
It was very kind. I didn't get anyone anything, but
you got me the the vinyl recording of emmett Otter's
jug Band Christmas, which is a special lithographed vinyl and
it's beautiful. What's the big song from that? Is that

(02:17):
one with like heat Miser snow Miser. That's different, that's different?
What is that? That's one of those ranking bass specials?
This is I mean if if they're all special to me?
But ain't no hole in the watch tub? Pretty big one.
And then of course the the river Bottom Nightmare Band
has the great song. Well, River Bottom Nightmare Band? Are
they the bad guys? Is their feuding band factions in

(02:40):
this film? The whole the whole uh story here is
there's a contest in the town, a talent contest, and
everyone it's sort of it's basically the gift of the Magi.
It told through puppet otters. So the Talent show, it's
like he gets a kid a harm Monica and the

(03:00):
kid doesn't have or something like it puts a hole
in the washtub to make a jug band so he
can buy his mother something special, and she wants to
buy him a guitar. No, I think he wants to
buy his mom on the guitar and then she I
don't want to support. No, no, no, it sounds lovely.
It's great. Yeah, classic Christmas class and it's a great
thank you. And Ramsey got me a Dumbledore Funko pop

(03:24):
toy because he knows how much I love the Harry
Potter franchise. He really did a little bit and I've
always wanted one of these. Uh. And that's weird because
I didn't realize would ever played with one. The head
pivots ever so slightly. Was it a bobblehead or no, no, no,
it's just it's just a little figure. But but he
can gaze back and forth judging lee across his student body.

(03:45):
But weirdly, you're holding the head still and you're moving
the body and stead no no, no, no, Okay, I
guess you're right. You're right, Chuck. Oh go oh goodness,
been a long year. So nol Ramsey, I have you
seen the Watchman TV show? I have one more episode
to watch. Oh well, we won't talk about the finale then,
Oh no, that's true. Uh well, let's just say spoiler

(04:07):
free that the finale was great. Yeah, we got a
bunch of stuff wrong. You told me that there were
eight episodes last time we recorded. How many were there? Six?
There were nine? Nine, So you told me. I thought
it was done, and then one more episode came up.
My bad, Like, well, that makes sense because they didn't
quite wrap things up. You know, I sometimes I just
say things. And I said erroneously that, oh yes, there

(04:28):
are even shooting season two right now, and they're not
shooting season two because there may not even be a season.
Well i'd heard that in the Watchman podcast that I've
been screaming about. He actually says that to uh, what's
his name, the guy, the Chernobyl guy, Craig Mazin. Um
uh the Lindeloff says, um, probably no season two. He

(04:49):
spent years of his life on this one. He doesn't
know that there's a meaning behind the season two. He
put all of this like political and kind of I
don't know, man, it's up to him that I I
hear what he's saying is what he's literally saying is
not up to him, though. It's up to him whether
he wants to do it or not, whether he does it.
That's right. There can still be a season two. I
guess you're right. There could be a handoff. That's what

(05:11):
I predict. You think, so I think he will remain
as EP and handed off to another show runner. That's interesting.
There's just more. I want more Sister Night. I want
more looking Glass. These are fucking great characters. I agree. No,
it's very, very good and without spoiling anything. Um he
uh saw the last frame of the season as a

(05:32):
final like this is it, whereas a lot of people
have read it as a cliffhanger. Yeah. Yeah, I agree
with him because I am a fan of an ambiguous ending,
which the comic had in and of itself. Yeah. So, Ramsay,
do you love it? I do? And you brought up
like the confusion of the episodes and stuff. Last night

(05:52):
I watched Dr Manhattan's episode. Man, that was good, and
it feels like a season ending. Yeah, that's why I
bought it. The biggest character and Watchman it's basically yeah,
you know, sure he's not though, he's just that he's
brought somewhere else for other things to happen at a
later date, which happened. But when you told me that

(06:13):
that was the finale, I believed it because it felt
like it could have been. It felt like maybe he
was vaporized or something. Yeah, but boy, that finale was great,
really good. It's really really good. And you know what, man,
I'm not a big like. I mean, there were a
few TV shows I've watched all the way through multiple times,
Party Down being one of them. You mentioned that, man,

(06:33):
But I'm gonna watch Watchman again soon, I think, because
it's one of those shows that once you know everything,
I think there are many rewards and rewatching to be had. Yeah,
you know what I'm saying. I can't even think of
a few bits already now that some reveals have happened.
When like they lay a lot of groundwork with little
pithy comments that don't seem to land in the in

(06:56):
the moment, but then in retrospect they're like, oh, that
was setting the ending up. The you know the table
for this thing that was to come and funnily uh,
a lot of the finale episode takes place Indicator Square again.
Oh it's right there like as is like with the
posts and everything. I'm gonna go by and take some
photos of that area and posted on the movie crush.

(07:17):
It's funny because I think people would get a get
done of it. They don't hide it at all, not
at all in those posts like you would think were
brought in for the show, but they're really there. They
did something to make them light up a little more,
let him up a lot more, and they movie fight
them or whatever. But I thought it was pretty funny.
If you live around here, it's you know, it's fun.
It takes you out of it for a second. But
it's such a good show. It's very very fun. I

(07:39):
know you haven't seen this, but I just want to
say to the community at large, if you haven't seen
Parasite yet, get thee to a cinema and see this movie. Um.
I rewatched it last night. The only reason never bring
it up is because you mentioned getting benefits from rewatching things.
This is one where I got so much out of
rewatching and because there are so many little things that's

(07:59):
easy to miss the first time. Um, I can't wait,
can't recommend it highly enough. And Nola'll just notice what's
peaking out underneath your zip hoodie. That is Ralph bosh
Ky's Wizards. Nice shirt, thanks man. I think the shirt
is better than the movie. Wizards was a product of
its time, right, It's but it's it's very like you

(08:20):
think of You see this image on the shirt, which
is just kind of creepy dude on like in a
red jumpsuit, like the laser gun thing on, like this
weird kind of almost and it it's got this cool,
I don't know ethereal weirdness to it. And the movie
is kind of goofy. It's a little bit goofy. It
would be better if they made it today. I think

(08:41):
I think this was a product of its time. The
other thing I wanted to mention before you get going, Nolan,
is I have started listening to the R. E. M
version of the Scott Ackerman and Adam Scott podcast. They
started off with are you talking YouTube to me? And
then they went through all of you two's albums, The
Great Scott Ackerman, The Great Adam Scott two, dudes, I'm

(09:01):
a huge fan of Are you talking? R E M? Remy?
And I can't get enough of it? Man, it is
if you're a fan of R. E. M. First of all,
it's great because they genuinely do go through all the stuff,
but they do it in such a way you just
got to hear it because they spend an hour doing
dumb comedy bits that are hysterical to me, but it's

(09:24):
certainly not for everyone. I love this style of humor too.
It's funny too, because Adam Scott is clearly the like
lifer R. E. M. Fanatic, you know, and wears his
fandom like squarely on his sleeve, and Scott Ackerman is
a fan of like the early handful of records, but
then kind of gets a little more matt as they
go on. You know, I'm only reckoning now, so I'm

(09:45):
a kind of episode three. Well that's it's just their
dynamic evolves, is all I'm saying. Uh, And they sound
like they do sound a little bit like but it
becomes a lot of um Adam Scott being like an R. E. M.
Apologist constantly, while Scott Ackerman is kind of being a
little more real about it. You know and and it
hurts uh Adam Scott's feelings quite a bit. And you

(10:07):
can tell that it's not an act and it's really
really cool. It's really great. And then at the end
there's a new one they came out with where they
actually get Stipe and company on the show. I've heard
that's coming. It's for the Monster reissue. So that's that's
a really great show. I think I'm I think it
maybe meeting with Scott Ackerman soon about something very secretive.

(10:29):
He is a he's a hero. Really yeah, same here, man,
I'm really looking forward to that. The meeting came up
this past week. It was on a Monday, and my
boss said, can you be in l A on Wednesday
to meet with him? Which is today? It's like, no, man,
I'm recording seven podcast episodes today for the holidays bank
and I yeah, I can't. I can't just go to
l A even to meet Scott Ackerman, which broke my heart.

(10:52):
All right, So let's get going. No, I've posted on
the old movie Crush page it's and so this is
a New Year's episode. We went with some New Year's content,
New Year's movie resolution, revolution, revolution, revelations, perhaps resolutions for
the New Year. Okay, and I listed mine as I believe,

(11:15):
I put seeing at least five films that are classic
films pre nineteen fifty. That's a really good one. I
started that already the other night. I didn't finish because
I started very late. But I started watching Rebel without
a Cause. This is my resolution. I'm can I borrow it.
I think it's a good one, is all I'm saying. Oh,
you're not allowed to watch old movies. Now. Have you

(11:37):
seen Rebel without a Cause? Yeah? I have seen that one.
It's it's really cool. It's not what I expected at all.
It's very strange. It's really interesting. Yeah, it's a great movie.
And you know, if you go to l A, go
up to Griffith Park Observatory. Didn't they get that far? You?
Let's see all the famous scenes there, and there's the
James Dean statue up there. Interesting ensemble cast to begin

(11:58):
with two because it's got Thurston Howell from from Gilligan's
Island is in it, and then the chief from uh
get Smart is in it as well, and the chief
so many Young Ramsey, do you have any New Year's
Resolutions movie? I mean, I always try to do the
A F I top But okay, I did that a
couple of years ago, but I didn't really get that far.

(12:19):
But I think like a good benchmark would be to
listen all the movies that you guys do the round
table on before Yeah, I record them. Yeah, so you know,
we've been doing these Oscar round tables, and sadly Ramsey
his it's been the kind of thing where he can't
sit in or engineer them. I don't even know if
you're editing them. Quite frankly, yeah are you? Yeah, but

(12:42):
you're seeing the movie and then editing. I'm trying to
go trying to write otherwise, it's just like spoiler city
for you, right, I get it. It's hard to get
to the movies. So that's why Knives Out hasn't been
edited yet, which I'm so happy. I saw that, right,
he saw it last night or something I saw that
last night. Would you think how many times out of five?

(13:02):
I give it nine? Nine thumbs nine four and a half, okay,
four and a half. He was on a tens. How
many thumbs did you give it? I gave it five thumbs.
Great for what it was, you know, pres independently, Oh, yeah,
and not compared to other films, that's the thing though,
But it was like it was the quintessential that thing
that it was, only like it took all of the

(13:23):
nostalgia bits of it and then ramped it up to
eleven and like gave you this kind of like modern
retelling of this thing. Uh. My kid even loved it. Dude,
My eleven year old followed along every beat and was
super invested. I could tell, like we were like looking
at each other the whole time. That's gonna happen next.
It was really it was fun, a fun time at
the movies. Do you have any resolutions movie wise? Are
you just gonna steal mine? I only steal it because

(13:46):
I started it already the other night. You know. It's
one movie, though. I mean in general, I would love
I feel like I have a gap in that respect
and inspired being to do that. I don't have to
call it a resolution shock, if I remember correctly, an
eighties gap. Yeah, the eighties whole. Well, that's not entirely true.
I guess I haven't seen as many of the fundamentally eighties,

(14:06):
you know, tent pole type movies like John Hughes could
drive his car through your hole, John Hughes, what is
He probably has a very large car. He drives like
a he's passed away station wagons. That's not ill complimenting
the size of his car in life. Wow, sir, large car,
you must be somebody exactly. That's how they measured it

(14:29):
success in the eighties, right, the size of your car
eighties beatle. That sums it up clearly, don't know anything
about the eighties. Alright. So here we go with Tasha
Hamilton's watch one movie per week, maybe hopefully with my husband,

(14:52):
uh three year old opposite schedules. She's fallen off her game,
so she's going to get back on h oldest of friends.
Yuvon Bodette says, never been to the movies by myself?
Perhaps try that, well, Yvon, You've got a lot of
responses there. There's nothing better than going to a movie alone.
To me, you do it a lot. I do. I mean,

(15:14):
if I can't get Scotty to go with me, he's
my other matten Ae buddy, then I go alone and
I have I never saw it as like. And people
go to dinner alone too, so I'm not knocking in,
but people classify both of those sometimes it's like a sad,
lonely person thing. And I'm always like, no, it's just
if you can get to the movies. Of course, just
go get you to the movies. It doesn't I mean,

(15:35):
it can be a social thing, but to me, I'm
going to see a movie. The last movie I saw
of myself was it was the only one I see
about myself in a very very long time. Uh. It
was Once upon a Time in Hollywood at the uh
Alamo Drafthouse in Brooklyn, and that was a really cool
solo movie going experience. It was early too. It's a
long movie, so by the time I got out of it,

(15:55):
this the whole day was ahead of me. I had
just had this nice solo experience. It was good. I
love it. And you masturbated and this, of course I do,
which is fantastic. Ramsey, do you go to movies by
yourself and it's great, right, Yeah, yeah, you enjoy yourself. Yeah,
no one bugs you, No one bugs you. You don't
have to talk about the movie after, which is the worst.
Well yeah, normally obligatory like outside the thing unless inspired,

(16:21):
but you know, sometimes it's a little much, all right,
So we're all in favor of it. I love it, Yvon,
go to movies by yourself, liberate myself. E j Alivac says,
I'm going to get through as much of Mystery Science
Theater three thousand back catalog as humanly possible. I love it.
Mike Sam's top fan an old friend. Part of my

(16:41):
twenty whoa is to see twenty movies in the theater
and write reviews on Letterboxed. Okay, Ramsey, are you on Letterboxed? Okay?
I just signed up for letter box and they've gotten
a decent amount of followers just from the movie crush community. Um.
I've liked hand full of movies, but I haven't write
any reviews yet. I'm not writing reviews. I'm just sort

(17:03):
of listening and banking. That's what I'm gonna probably do.
I don't know how much value there is to to
be honest, I don't know to actually write the reviews.
I think that might be a lot of effort, but
uh for not a lot of payoff. But just I
like to see other people's lists, you know, and then
I can decide for myself. I get it. Alicia Diet's

(17:23):
old friend says, I recently filled the shining hole in
my life, So I guess I'll go with go into
the movies more by myself. Ah, yeah, for sure. Old
friend Zack Pointer pledged to get Disney Plus once it's
released in Japan. John millsap Old Pal says gonna work
through at least ten Best picture winners that I've never seen.

(17:45):
These are all great goals, good movie goals. Let me
see here. Celest Edwards canna Get says I'm gonna try
and fill some of my holes Godfather, Matrix and pulp fiction. Boy. Celeste,
I'm not one to talk about a ladies holes in public,

(18:05):
but those are some pretty big holes. Can you believe
those three? Knowl I think those are all kind of
fundamentally required viewing. I would say whether you're whether you
think they're the end all be all of all cinema.
It's important to have seen them, I think, to be
part of the conversation the cultural canon in well, Adrian
Crane got Disney Plus and plans to catch up on

(18:27):
Disney and Pixar classics. It's kind of fun scrolling through
there and seeing what all is available on Do you
have it yet? Ramsey? Yes? Oh yeah, you like it?
You've been playing through stuff? Yeah, bed nobs and broomsticks. Uh.
I haven't done any of those yet. Yeah, like I
mean not if you saw toy story for the forkey shorts, No,

(18:47):
I love fourky though. Yeah. Oh there's a whole little
like a mini series. What's the computer? I mean, they're
like two minute shorts, but they're really well produced. Speaking
of the shorts, I love that all of the because
our shorts are available on Disney Plus, so there's so
many of them and they're all so good. I saw
the one that everyone said was such a tear jerker,
the Dumplings one. No, I had seen that before pre

(19:10):
one of the movies in the theater. But does it float?
What's the one with the kid that floats away? It
may be called fat Remember that one? You're all kind
of tear jerky. Yeah, there's one where there's a father
and his he has a kid that floats and his
job as a parent is to keep his kid from
floating away. Oh, floating like in the air, yes, okay,
got it. Yeah, and that's yeah, not floating like in water.

(19:32):
I don't I don't recall that one. Another one that's
really feels e is the one with the volcanoes um
that are in love or whatever. There's like seen that one.
That one was the one before Mowanna and it's it's
so it's like a musical kind of it's called I
Lava you. I think that's what it's called. That sounds about.
It's it's pretty cute. It's pretty damp cute. Mo Wana
was good. I love Molanna. We watched that again the

(19:53):
other day. That's a good movie. They're really it's funny
watching some of these older Disney films, even the cartoons
animated one are you know, the message isn't always on point.
They thought they were on point, but not necessarily, like
especially if you're a young girl. There's just a lot
of you know, damn Selinda stress boy Anita man to

(20:13):
come along and make for me. But I mean they
didn't exactly invent that, but they were sort of jumping
off of the source material they were from. I mean,
it's it's a time as old as can be. But
like they're doing the right thing now, I think and
empowering these carters. I agree completely. I mean I think, uh,
I love everything that Disney has put out in the
in the past, you know, several decades and good stuff

(20:34):
it's all quality entertainment. Kirk Castor says he's going to
watch all the Best Picture nominees for the first time
ever all of this year, I think for this year.
Probably probably not all of all time. No, that would
take forever, although you could do it. Old friend Making
Carrolls is trying to watch one new to me movie
a month. I become more of a TV adventer, so

(20:57):
I really miss sticking into the films. That's easy to
get side tracked with a good TV. These days, you know,
there is a lot out there, and it's easy to
kind of start something and then if it doesn't grab
you completely kind of drift away because there's just so
much out there too, you know, too much, I'd say,
too much. All right, we're gonna move on then too
coming attractions. I asked the movie crushers what movies they

(21:20):
were looking forward to most in UH and gave them
a little link to a Collider article detailing those releases.
Is a cheat sheet. Do you guys have any off
the top of your head that you know of. I'm
looking forward to that Black Widow movie. Okay, same Black
Widow like scar Joe Marble, isn't it gonna be r rating. Boy,

(21:44):
I hope so I heard it was gonna be like
a little more intense, Like, yeah, I could use some
more intensity because they've had some success with those now
with the Deadpool and Logan and all that, so interesting,
would be a fun thing to see. Yeah, what about you.
I know Dune is really up there doing is ian.
I just like, I just love villanev so much and

(22:05):
I think he'll handle that. Like I thought that this
Blade Runner was so genius. I think we've argued talked
about this. I'd argue it's better than the original. I think.
Obviously there's a lot of people that have issues with
David Lynch's Dune. It was a problematic, kind of imperfect.
I'm not a Dune guy, but I'm a fan of
the director of the French Canadian director that did uh

(22:29):
Blade Runner and uh Enemy and um Cicario and everything
he's done has been Oh also, uh is it um?
What was the one with the aliens and the language
barrier and stuff? Oh? The early one. No, it was
like maybe a couple four or three years ago. The Aliens.
It was about language. It was the name of it,
the alien and the language barrier. What the heck was

(22:50):
that Arrival? Yeah? Also great Now I love it. Um.
I think he's a percent club. So I'm actually a
fan of the original Dune. The only person when I
was a kid I watched it. Well, it's a fun
it's a fun, weird movie. It's a David Lynch sci
fi movie. But it's like, I think they ran out
of money, and it becomes very clear that they ran
out of money because the movie just kind of screeches

(23:11):
to a halt um. It was like, what's that guy's name,
Dino de laurentists or a big producer. I think he
financed it and it was going way over budget and
they just kind of like it feels like they jump
from like be two X really quickly because they didn't
have enough money to at the end, with the end
between part no more from Dino. Lynch turned down Jedi

(23:34):
to direct Jedi to do Dune. That's right, Like he
was going to do Return to the Jed. That's right.
He was asked. He was asked directly by Lucas Boy.
I can't imagine what that would have been like, I mean,
he would have had obviously, I'm sure they would have
had to rain am in a little bit or yeah,
would have been killer, yeah, because well he might have
saved Jedi looking back, because I'm not a fan, not

(23:55):
a fan. I mean, it's fine, but now I was
is that the one where you feel like they just
through the k and sink, you know, and just like
kind of we're just trying to you know. My problems
with Jedi were mainly that Luke became a badass and
I didn't like seeing him that way. I like the
Luke of a new Hope and empire vulnerable Luke. Yeah,
and then when he came out wearing all black and
he was a tough guy. It just it was such

(24:17):
a character shift for me. I didn't buy it, uh,
And that was my biggest problem with it, and it
was it was a bit of a mess to me.
It definitely seems like it's hit or miss for even
the biggest fans of the of the Zack Pointer says
Bill and Ted Eternals and Black Widow. Dude, have you
seen Kumalan, Johnny, I'll jack looking. I saw that for

(24:40):
the first time yesterday and I almost fucking fell out
of my chair. It's like border line upsetting. Yeah, like
I thought it was. I thought it was a photoshop.
First of all, it's just it's not it's bought crazy. Yeah,
it's that Marvel like Super Soldier program they've got going on, man,
and somebody put me in a Marvel movie. Yeah, so

(25:01):
I can look like that, I mean look like it
takes a year of like just you know, complete obsession
and like live in trainers and all of that. The
same thing happened with uh, what's his name from Parks
and rec Um, You know when he when he did
the Guardians of the Galaxy movie star Lord with his name,
yeah Pratt, Pratt. Yeah, he went from like shlubby Andy

(25:21):
to like Paul Rudd. Jack's up a little free a man.
Not like he didn't go come on gihnni style, but
he's in eternals. That was the reason I bring it up.
Come on Johnny's and internals, which is why he did
it right exactly. Yeah, it's weird, man. I hope he
doesn't get less funny because usually people look like that
can't be funny too, what I mean it since the

(25:42):
humor has gone. Um, Samantha h else is wonder Woman
is at the tippy top of my list. It looks
fun did you see the trailer? Yeah? Man five, I
mean the first one was great, it was I want
to see more of that. This is like they're taking
the first one question together with like stranger things, you know,
shoving it out the door. Shoving it out the door.

(26:02):
Uh men, Old Data says, now that I know David
Harbor is in it. Black Widow and Wonder Woman is
a close second. Yeah. Harbor looks so good in that.
Did you see his hell Boy? No, I didn't didn't
get Did you see it Ramsey? Yeah? He gave it
two thumbs way down. It was it's yeah. I mean

(26:27):
you look at the cast or like, this is gonna
be great, but it was awful. Yeah, shame because the
ones the the um there's a lot of problematic stuff
on this set though, I think, well I heard that,
but what's what's the director? Of course Del Toro. The
first two are just so delightful. They're fun, they're exciting.

(26:48):
There's like intrigue and mystery, and there's just a lot
of good writing and the visuals are awesome, and it
just seemed like they really ship the bed on this one. Yeah.
They took the first those first two movies and put
it into one movie. They did too much interestation had
just taken one part of hell Boy and done a
movie about it. You know it sounds like a mess.
Yeah bummer, But yeah he got jacked for that movie.

(27:10):
He did. He did. Uh, he was fairly jack by
the way. David Harbor. Fantastic apartment he was in. It
was either architectural Digest or dwell or something, and they
did a little if you're into home decor in architecture.
He redid this apartment New York. It's very lovely. Advise
you to look it up. Christine Scott topped Gun and Dune.

(27:32):
The new Top Gun trailer is out and it's you know,
hitting all the nostalgia buttons. For me, that's what everyone
seems to say. I only saw like the original teaser
that had like inside cockpit view I think, and then
like some tricks and hearing the internal monologue or whatever.
It's good and the just if you're a fan of aviation,
just seeing the what's going on flying wise in this movie,

(27:55):
it just looks off the charts amazing. Dan Maynard Old
Friends is so many but the New Ghostbusters and New Mutants,
if it actually happens, it's gonna be great, Amy Boss Is,
wonder Woman and Ghostbusters. Would you guys think of the
Ghostbusters trailer? It looked pretty cool? Yeah, I'm down. I'm intrigued. Yeah,
I think it was a good teaser. People are like,

(28:17):
it was gonna be funny and stuff. I like, of
course it will be here putting that Stranger Things kid
and everything that I'll tell you. Then wolf Hard, Yeah,
what else was he? He He was in it? Right? Yeah,
it's almost like he can act or something. He's pretty good.
He does a good job. Old pal Gene Van Valence
says the New Coming to America. Yeah, I'm very nervous
about that. It's not that here. Oh did they Eddie

(28:42):
Murphy was in town? I didn't get him on I guess,
so that's so surprising. What do you think about it?
I haven't even seen the trailer trailer? Man, Do you
think the original is great? Yes? You do? Okay, it's
one of your favorite comedy type of I think it's
really holds up, is very funny. What is it about
it that does it for you that you would they
wouldn't be able to get right in a in a reboot? Well,
what I'm worried about with the sequel, is uh that

(29:06):
it will be the worst kind of sequel, which is
doing the same thing over and like the same jokes,
even in the same setups. Like that's the laziest, worst
kind of sequel you can do, kind of like the
Zoolanders sequel. I'm not sure if you saw that. I
didn't even see that. I heard what they did essentially, Yeah,
why bother? I didn't see the Anchorman sequel, especially with

(29:26):
so much time having passed, Like unless there's a real
compelling reason to bring back these characters and like see
what they've been up to, it's maybe there will be that.
What worries me is I think the plot is his
prince Akim's son now wants to come to America to
find his wife. And it's like that does like, uh,
you gotta you gotta do something different with it. Is

(29:48):
there anybody worthy attached to it making directing or you know, okay,
come to America too. I don't know. I know this
is all bringing back to all the same casts. Um, yeah,
the people that are still alive obviously, uh Brewer, Craig
Brewer did it. Yeah, okay, is he good? Yeah? He
did hustle and flow and I think he did the

(30:11):
foot Loose remake which he sort of hustle and flows good,
hustle and flows great. The Dolomite movie that any Murphy
did was was awesome enough, you guys, I haven't seen
it yet. It's a Netflix jam, right, Yeah, yeah, I
need to see that one I have. I'm nervous about
it too. Just like the Bill and Ted movie, it
just doesn't it seems really forced, like they're bringing back death. Yeah,

(30:33):
it's like, why I bring back the same characters when
you can have new characters, new stories. You know what
I've said it on here before. My dirty secret is
I never I thought Bill and Ted was that great.
It was fine, it's whatever, But I'm not one of
these people that it's just like it's not super funny.
It's just kind of kitchy and like I was that
saw that it was fine, but um, if you rewatch it,

(30:56):
there's actually some problematic language in it, kind of they
call each other uh F word a lot, like you know,
the the not not the fuck no, the bad one
that we don't like to say. That's a pejorative that
they used to say in the nineties a lot, just
like Willie Nilly sure frogs, that's the one. Um, Michael
O'Neil says, The Color out of Space. I haven't heard

(31:18):
of that one. Oh, it looks good. Really, yeah, it's uh,
it's got something to do with some of the production
team behind Mandy and I knew you were a little
lukewarm about that one, but visually you can't deny that
it had a cool thing going on. Esthetically, like it's
really beyond and like crazy looking. This looks very much
like that. The Color out of Space is a HP
Lovecraft short story about like literally an alien invader that

(31:43):
is is experienced in the form of being a color
And the trailer looks real kookie ye and fun and
it's Nick Cage Nick caging out. Yeah. I think Pam
our colleagues share that on her Facebook wall, and I
watched it because Pam shured it and I trust Pam.
Trying to get Pam back on here. Yeah, she's she's
given me the high hat. I've never heard that expression

(32:04):
move for Miller's crossing, giving me the high the high hat. Yes,
that's right. I don't even know what it means. Let
me see here, Kevin Clark says, Angelica Houston isn't excited
about the Witches, so I don't know how I can
be Wait a minute, there's a there's Our Witches remake sequel.
I'm not sure. Uh. And then let's finish up with
our old pal culver Matthew. He just has a two

(32:27):
word list, fucking dune. Yeah, totally, it's gonna be good.
Is there anything out there about doing Is any video
any nothing? I don't have anything. Um. I did see
the new Bill and Ted photos were released yesterday, and
the deal is their daughters are in the movie as

(32:47):
the I think the main protagonists. So I'm down with that.
But we are going to finish up here everyone with
an addition of Chuck's Holes. Because I saw and you
saw as well, Nolan the movie Crushers page. They thought

(33:10):
it would be a good idea to on their own
come up with movies that they would force us to
watch that are our holes. And we're both down with it. Um,
as long as it's not the Harry Potter series, right,
that's my only stipulation. No, you know, it would be
the Harry Potter series for me exactly. But you I
mean your no, your your holes are our legendary at

(33:32):
this point they are and very well far and wide.
But my holes are a little more secretive. Good lord,
Uh so I thought I could expose my holes more today,
maybe give aid to this list that they're going to
come up with stuff that they're gonna make me watch.

(33:52):
Ramsey has the traditional sharpie. Unless you have your own method,
I don't. I seed a slip of here if you
can use this all right, Oh it's column shaped already,
I love. So what do you do? You just tally? Well,
I do a y on one side and then in
on the other knoll, and then I do the old
one diagonal five. But you do what however you want.

(34:14):
But you make you number it. Do you make a
numbered list all the way to twenty? Uh No, I
don't do that. I just read them out loud. But
you do what however you want. No rames. He's laughing
at your methods. So I'm out of I'm already out
of room. Um. You know what I'm gonna do, well,
say am just because since we have a finite number,

(34:35):
I'm just gonna make a tally of the of the
just of the yeses, and then we'll buy product of
the process of elimination. Determine how many knows there were
after the fact that some complicated math is at a
certain point. I'm gonna ask you what the score is,
no ol, so just get ready for that. That's comedy, okay, alright, fine,

(34:56):
all right? But what if I get it off kilter
and I kiss? Is amazing everybody? What's happening right here?
Put a y on one side, and then and on
the other. Okay, and then just moved down. But what
if I need twenty spaces though that's a lot. This
is a very short piece of painting. Ramsey was just
videoing this. I think, all right, you know what Nolan
is now looking for another piece. Wow, you really can't

(35:18):
figure this out. I have I figured it out. Check.
You threw me for a loop when you said I
had to tell you what the score was halfway through?
I could tell you anyway. All right, let's just get
to it, shaw we man, this is great. Okay, I
had no I didn't see this coming. Well here it
is all right. Here it is exposing more of my holes.
They're called math holes. Um okay, number one on the list.
We've got a sort of a niche Japanese sort of

(35:43):
schlocky action slash Yakuza picture called Ichi the Killer Nope
by Takashi Mika. Is there to this list? Not really,
So that's a no okay um. Just so everyone knows,
no one was writing and wise right as what would
what would you recommend you? I already told you what

(36:05):
I'd recommend, But what did you know? What to remind me?
What was it? I thought you want to see you
do it your way? I know that's great. I love it.
Pooh pooed all my other methods. I'm just loving It's
a big in over there. Yeah, all right, what's the
next movie? The next one is a very long engagement.
It's a French film by the directors of Amalie. And

(36:25):
I've seen that. I don't think I have no I'm
gonna have to say no okay, so I've got two
ends here now yell for nose um all right. This
is a very famous animated anime film. This is not
a niche one though, it's just it's pretty commonly people
have seen this one a Kira no okay um. Next

(36:49):
we have a um Emilio Estevez and Mick Jagger uh
vehicle free Jack free Jack. Yet you've seen free Jack?
That was shot in Atlanta. Actually was it really? Yeah? Okay, alright,
how about um a little British gangster picture called layer Cake. Yes, okay,

(37:14):
I like this, uh free free form. Yeah, it's good. Yeah,
it's all over the place. Without I figured we'd we
would want like a nice look into your overall whole
escape as opposed to, you know, just one genre focusing
on the single hole exactly. Next, Chuck, sir, we have

(37:35):
a little film, a science fiction film from the eighties
starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, based on a short story by the
Great Stephen King called The Running Man. You've seen The
running Man. My goal is to predict the title before
you even say it. All right, I'm gonna try to
be a little more vague then. Uh. Next, we have
another kind of man. Okay, Uh, he's not running this time?

(37:57):
Or is he kind of is? Technically he's participating eating
And what a running event, Chuck, A running event and
he is h he is. He is tortured by a
Nazi dentist, the marathon Man. You've seen the marathon Man. Okay,
that's with that's is it safe? That's with the great
Laurence Olivier. Yeah, he plays the said Nazi dentist. That's right. Okay. Um,

(38:23):
here we have something of a a mock buster. You
can call this the original mockbuster. It was a mockbuster.
Is sort of a movie that mimics another type of
more famous movie. Um So, instead of transformers, you've got
trans morphers. Instead of snakes on a plane, you've got
snakes on a train something like that. This isn't exactly that,
but this was infamously known for its McDonald's product placement.

(38:47):
Um and also for Paul Rudd playing a clip from
it every time he's on the Cone and O'Brien show.
It's called Mac and Me. Yeah that you're you're not
missing anything. It's it's an awful, awful well it's the
scene where the kids in the wheelchair and he goes down,
he rolls down the hill and then the break breaks
off and then he flies through you know, clearly a
dummy falling off of this cliff. And then the bad

(39:09):
looking alien sits up and go one of the great
recurring bits. Very good from the great Paul Rud. Okay. Um,
Next we have a sequel, a holiday sequel, Home Alone Too,
Lost in New York. Yes, of course, you've seen that one. Okay, great,
but only once. I think you're doing quite well. Chuck,
you're doing quite well. And next we have this is
sort of a be kind of cult science fiction film

(39:32):
starring the great Jason Robards. It's called A Boy and
His Dog, also starring Don Johnson. No, okay, it's serve
a post apocalyptic sci fi schlock kind of fest. All right,
we've got that one as an end. My system is
working just fine, Chuck. I love it. Took a picture
of that later. It's interesting how your brain works. Well,

(39:53):
I guess I could have just did then I'm in
a line I didn't have to. I'm you're getting a
g since in my brain processes. All right, Um, I
think I remember you saying that you have not seen
this one, but we'll see hell Raiser the movie. Uh yeah,
I saw that the original hell Raiser. Was there a sequel?
Because there's there's a lot of sequels, there's a lot
of secret pinhead. Okay, great. Next we have another Clive

(40:19):
Barker film from probably the late eighties, possibly very early nineties,
Night Bread. I have not seen. You have not seen
night Bread. It's not great, but it was clearly very expensive.
It's an interesting movie. It's it's got David Cronenberg plays
a big villain in it. Um, he's a sort of
a slasher character. It's it's a fun Ramsey nodding, enthusiastical.

(40:41):
Do you like Nightbreed Ramsey? I did when I was
a kid. It's right, it's it doesn't hold I don't
think it holds up. But it's a fun Uh, it's
a fun monster fest. There's a I don't I don't
know see the lead. I don't know, I don't know.
I didn't know him super well the lead anyway. Um, okay,
I have a friend who had sex with him. Wow,
that's a claim to fame. How was he? Well man,

(41:06):
there's more to the story. I'll tell you guys after
fair Fairer is pretty good in it, though he is
very sex wither no way. I once went on a
tender date with the girl who had a friend who
has sex with Quentin Tarantino. And apparently he really does
have a foot fetish. Really interesting, of course he does.
That's all I got. That's not a surprise. Next, we

(41:27):
have a film starring David Bowie who he also did
the soundtrack for it, and it's called Absolute Beginners. Yeah,
that's a great movie. You enjoy that movie. I've heard
mixed things about it. I haven't seen it, but yeah
I haven't. I mean, it's it's been many, many years.
What's it about. It's like about like high society ballroom
dancing or something, you know what. I don't recall, but

(41:47):
I definitely saw it. I'm not cheating on this one.
You know, you're doing what you're doing? Great, Chuck, you're
doing great. You're it's a pretty even split. I think
you're the yeses. Are you in favor of the yes?
Is here? Um? The yes column looks like seven to
six to me. Don't look at my paper, Chuck, don't
look at my paper. Should we do it a little?
Let's say so for knows, you've got with a one
in six, six nos and seven wise, So yeah, you're

(42:10):
very neck and neck, neck and neck, Chuck. All right.
Next we have another rock star film turn with Under
the Cherry Moon. Uh you know what, man, I want
to say, yes, but I don't think i've ever seen
it all the way through. Prince, I'm gonna have to
say and yeah, uh wait, and Absolute Beginners. I think

(42:30):
she's an absolute beginners. Excuse me, I'm m getting mixed
up here, but yeah, apparently Under the Cherry Moon is
quite bad, but I have not seen it, so we're
gonna give that a no. All right, thanks for being honest.
I cannot say that I saw that one all the
way through. Okay, Next we have I only just learned
about this movie because there's a there's a new series
on Netflix that explores the creation of movies that went

(42:51):
on to become kind of iconic, but with the time
we're sort of underfunded in a little bit like Fledgling.
And this was the making of Home Alone one. Uh.
And it was directed by Chris Columbus, whose only other
feature to that point was an Elvis movie called Heartbreak
Hotel from nineteen and it did get a wide release

(43:11):
but apparently bombed and it wasn't good. Okay, I know
the movie you're talking on, A Heartbreak Hotel was the movie, right, yeah,
Heartbreak Hotel? Al right. Next we have The Phantom of
the Paradise, the kids movie. No it's not, no, it's
not it's not a kiss movie. It's uh, it's the
guy that did the music like the Phantom of the Park.

(43:32):
Yess a kiss movie. Yeah, but no, I know Phantom
of the Paradise, but I have not seen that. It's
that guy Paul Um. Paul Williams did the music and
it's like a rock opera kind of thing. He did
that one too. Yeah, he did a lot of them,
The Muppet, the Muppet music, Rainbow Connection and all that stuff. Okay, great, Um. Next,
I don't think you added to know though, that I

(43:53):
did know because I'm keeping up there. Yeah, because you
you had not seen Heartbreak, Hotel or Under the Cherry Moans.
That's three ends in a row. Yeah. Man, I'm I'm
getting hammered here. Next, Uh the Seminal Nineties. Uh. Computer
What would a computer look like in a movie? Approximation?
Electric Dream, Hallmark is Hackers. Yes, you've seen Hackers. Okay,

(44:15):
good movie. It's fun, it is, certainly. What doesn't hold
up is the way the internet looks. Yeah, you can't
make a movie about your technology and expect that to
ever hold you. Sure camp Okay, Next, we have um,
a film from a director who went on to do
a lot of big Marvel pictures but kind of got
his start doing more low budge kind of horror comedy.

(44:38):
This was somewhere in between those two worlds with a
movie called dark Man. Oh sure, okay, I feel like
we're near the end all I think we need a
tally to see how we're gonna Yeah, you got you
got two left? So we're at one, two, three four
or five six seven eight nine? Yeses one two three
four or five six seven eight nine Nos. Yes it is, Chuck.

(45:01):
I'm just confirming my figures here. You know, all right, man,
this is really it always comes down to the wires
to the wire. Um, you've you've you've been a worthy
adversary here, Chuck. Um, despite shredding my tallying methods, which
is absolutely fun, what are you gonna post? What's what's
what's so comical about this? Chuck? This is helpful for me.
I wack and differentiate between the wise and you know,

(45:22):
it really is a peak though. I think you may
work spatially in your brain more. Yeah, yeah, you might
be a spatial learner. I'm definitely a spacey learner. It's true. Um, Okay,
next we have That was a drum roll, Howard the Duck.
I never saw that stinker. Oh that could have gone
either way, Chuck. That could have gone either way Howard

(45:42):
the Duck. Even young Chuck knew that was a bad movie.
All right, Well, I can either equalize or be defeated.
I'm pretty sure you've seen this one, hocus Pocus. Yes,
in fact, I just saw that for the first time
this year. It's a dead heat, Chuck. Yeah, there's that
the expression heat or is it a dead heat or

(46:03):
a dead heap? It's a dead heat, a dead heat.
What does that mean? Though? What is a dead heat
a dead heap? You don't want to come across a
dead heat. What is a dead heat? Though? A dead heat?
Heat is a race, So a dead heat would be
a race where it is a tie. A dead heat
would be like a pile of bodies. That would be terrible.
Should we do a tiebreaker from Ramsey? Maybe? Oh no,

(46:24):
we don't never tiebreak. We'll just keep it at my
ten holes. You can pick from that list if you want. Um.
But yeah, I'm eager to get involved in this crusher
thing where we are forced to watch movies occasionally. How
should we do that? How they hold us accountable though?
The owner system? I told them they could design it

(46:45):
however they want, So we'll just leave it to them
and see how they Absolutely, yeah, I'm gonna do it.
Power to the people, Power to the crushers. That's right,
all right, everyone, thanks for listening, welcome to Thank you
Ramsey H for a great nineteen and knowl and to
look forward to more to come this year. Indeed, for
