Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hi. I'm Holly Fry, host of Stuff You Missed in
History Class, and as a woman podcaster, I know how
important it is to amplify women's voices in this space.
That is why I am so excited to be talking
with two women who are on their way to being
some of tomorrow's leading voices in podcasting. Their podcast is

(00:23):
one of the ten winners of Seneca Women to Hear
search for the Next Great Female Podcasters, created in partnership
with P and G and The Card by Seneca Women
powered by MasterCard and Deserve. After six weeks of training
at the Seneca Women Podcast Academy, they will be launching
their own show on the Seneca Women Podcast Network with
My Heart. I am so excited to talk about this

(00:47):
podcast we're discussing today. First of all, Carrie, will you
introduce yourself and tell me about this show that you're
working on. Absolutely. My name is Carrie Carpenter. I am
a romance author, and my name is Jenny Mitchell. We
are doing the Hallmark Junkies. We're gonna be reviewing all
things Hallmark, going through the movies, talking about what we like,

(01:09):
what we don't like. We're gonna get some Romance, one
oh one, insights from Carrie from her history as an author,
and then we're just gonna have a little free for all.
We're gonna talk about all things in this movie, the
most ridiculous, the best, anything you can talk about, you
can think about. We're gonna go over Carrie. You have
been writing Romance for a while. What made you think

(01:31):
that you and Jenny should have a podcast together where
you rehash everything that goes on in Hallmark movies? Well,
that is a great question. Ever since Jenny and I met,
we will talk about how we loved these Hallmark movies,
which you know, now there's about forty a year just
during Christmas time alone, but back in the day there

(01:53):
was like maybe one year and not that many people
watched it. But Jenny and I before we ever met,
we both watched them. So as we became friends and
our friendship developed, we also just kept watching these movies
together and I just thought that they were so much fun,
and our friends started joining us, and besides watching the movies,

(02:13):
we started playing homework channel bingo and just have our
homework viewing parties, and of course text each other NonStop
when we're not together about these movies, so this seemed
like a natural fit for us. Jenny, you and Carrie
were selected to be part of this Seneca Women to
Hear program from among a massive group of applicants. What

(02:33):
did it feel like when you found out you were
going to get to be part of this? Honestly, it
was so surreal and I really thought, maybe until middle
week last week, that we were being duped. But no,
there's no we could not have won this. I mean,
I entwered it and I thought it was a good idea,

(02:54):
but Carrie was like, you know, here's an angle. I'm
an author, but I just was never expected doing anything.
And then I get the female and Carrie. I text
Carrie and I'm like, um, we should talk. I think
we won. And we're both so excited, and I mean,
it's just such a great opportunity and and you know,
we just can't think I heard Radio and Seneca Women

(03:16):
enough and we're just we're just over the moon about it. Carrie,
I am wondering because you are about to embark on
this sort of multi week boot camp where you're learning
all about podcasting, how to put your podcast together, and
then getting that out into the world. So what are
you most looking forward to in that learning experience, and
what are you most hoping for? I am looking forward

(03:39):
to just learning as much as I can. I love
learning new things. Um So, I've always wanted to kind
of a venture into the podcast world, but to be honest,
I just had no idea where to start. And you know,
you can google how to start a podcast, but it's
pretty overwhelming. So this opportunity has just been amazing that

(04:00):
I'm actually from like really cool people going to learn
what to do and how to podcast. And I'm most
looking forward to doing this with my best friend Jenny
and getting to hang out. Jenny and I used to
be neighbors until last year, and even though I only
moved probably twenty miles away, if anyone knows the DC

(04:21):
area traffic, it might as well be on you know, Mars,
and I just miss seeing her every day and now
she has to come out to me and it's spend
lots of time with me. Thank you so much for
spending this time with me today. And I cannot wait,
as I said, to see where where we ended up,
and I cannot wait to listen. Thank you so much

(04:43):
for your time. Thank you so much, Holly, and again
thank you to I Heart Radio and Seneca Women. Inspiring
words from two of the winners of Seneca Women to
hear search for the next great female podcasters. So excited
to hear their podcast Lawn Sing later this year, alongside
nine other amazing podcasts from talented, up and coming female voices,

(05:06):
with support from the Card by Seneca Women, powered by
MasterCard and Deserve. It's the first credit card that rewards
you three percent cash back when you shop from women
owned businesses in the marketplace by Seneca Women. The Card
