Speaker 1 (00:05):
Hey, this is Annie and Samantha and welcome to stuff
I never told you production. iHeartRadio, and welcome to a
special halfy hour where Samantha's debuting her spooky sick voice.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
I mean, this is hilarious because I really sound like
the crep Kipper without the high pitched version, like I'm
the death.

Speaker 1 (00:37):
You and Virgid together would make a really great crip
creeper right now, I know it would be beautiful. Yes, well,
it is the day before Halloween twenty twenty five as
we record this, so this one is pretty timely. It
is a happy hour. I am enjoying a hot tidy
because it's cold. It is cold. I had to actually

(00:59):
turn on my radiator. I hate doing that. I've put
it off as long as I can, but I had
to turn it on and I had to. So, yeah,
this will be a shorter one. I just was thinking
about this because a couple of you have written into
me about horror movies suggestions, and especially during the pandemic.

(01:25):
I just had a list. I had a spreadsheet, and
I should honestly share that with more people because I
would write in like if you don't like this, don't
watch this swamp like I had all these notes about
every movie. So what I'm going to say about this is,
I'm just going to give you a really quick hit,
but look into it before you watch it, because I'm
not going to go into the otherwise this would take forever.

Speaker 2 (01:48):
And already advised me not to watch The Good Boy
because I had a feeling I shouldn't. But that's I'm
bypassing what you're going to say.

Speaker 1 (01:56):
I do want to start with Good Boy. So basically
what I'm doing today is when I'm calling off the
off the beaten path horror movies, although some of them
are mainstream, but because we did this last year where
I just went over, here's some horror movies I've been watching,
I wanted to start with Good Boy. I did watch
it listeners. You might remember we mentioned it uh in

(02:16):
a previous episode who knows which one? But and it's
a horror movie told from the point of view of
the dog, UH. And they knew, like everybody is going
to be so worried about this dog dying that they
released a trailer that was like, no, it'll be fun.
So I go into that with that mindset and forgetting

(02:38):
that any number of other things could go wrong, and
I cried very hard. A dog does die in it,
by the way, just not that dog, and it's off screen.
It's a dog does die it, but it's off screen.
It's not like the yeah, yeah, but the funny then

(03:00):
slash really tragic. Thing is I love I actually really
liked that movie. I thought it was great. I thought
it was interesting that Dog was a really good actor.
But the interesting thing is that I had a group
of friends come hang out with me the day after
Samantha and I had hung out and gone to a
Halloween party. So the next day, so I was tired

(03:20):
and we were talking about horror movies and I bought
this horror movie up and I start crying telling them
the plot, just telling them the plot because they like,
we're not gonna watch it. So I was like, okay,
well this is what happened. And I started just sobbing,
and then they started crying too, and we had like
this crew crying session. And it was at the beginning
of the hangout too, So I was like, we've really
set a toe.

Speaker 2 (03:42):
Well for listeners who was wondering whether or not to
watch this movie. I feel like you got a good
heads up about what's going down with this movie? Wow?

Speaker 1 (03:52):
Yeah, I don't want to. I don't want to build
it up too much because you know, like I watched
it to get I've watched it more than once, and
now that I know what it is, it's still sad.
But I think because I was so like focused on
you know, the dog doesn't die, so I don't worry
about that, that I just was ignoring other possibilities.

Speaker 2 (04:13):
Well, the question is, because they've done this, they I guess,
campaign to try to get the dog to get an Oscar.
Does the dogs a Yeah, I don't know, but it
ind his name is Dy is a really good actor
and I know him last year?

Speaker 1 (04:29):
Was it last year? Recently that the dog from Anatomy
of a fall? Also, he was at the Oscars, That's right,
he was. I do think, I mean, there's something to
be said, and especially I don't know. I know they're
trying to add new Oscar categories. I don't know how.

(04:49):
It's like animal training is in there. But I that
dog I was like completely sold me. Great acting, perfect, Yeah,
and it was the creator's dog, So I'm assuming they
have a good they had a good relationship.

Speaker 2 (05:10):
But he talked about it was he had had that
movie in mine for a while, but I don't remember
if he said he'd actually trained the dog the entire time,
but he had had that like plot for a long time.

Speaker 1 (05:23):
Yeah, and it's basically like, how do dogs receive the world?
And you know all the videos of you see a
dog marking it nothing? What is it? What is that thing?
If there is anything? But it was a really interesting premise.
I say, go in. I recommend it, go in for
warn I'm show me certain people know. I don't think

(05:47):
for you, Samantha. But I did really really enjoy it.
But I was surprised. I mean, I've never it's been
a long time since I've started crying talking about the
plot of it.

Speaker 2 (05:59):
It's a good like it's obviously a well made movie.

Speaker 1 (06:03):
Yeah, who uh huh. So there's that. There's my review
of that. Okay, So I'm just gonna run through these
real quick. These are horror movies that I watched usually
during a Halloween season. They're not really related to Halloween, though,
but you know, horror movie. I love a good time
travel horror movie. I love time travel. I love trying

(06:27):
to figure it out. It's like a fun puzzle. So
One of the ones I really like is Triangle. This
movie does have some abuse in it, so again like,
look up all these movies before you watch them. But
I like the puzzle of the time travel in it
and I really enjoy figuring it out. And it's a

(06:47):
small you probably not.

Speaker 2 (06:49):
Is this the one with the same woman from Amiteville
with Ryan?

Speaker 1 (06:54):
And maybe it's got me Hinsworth in it, That's what
I know.

Speaker 2 (06:57):
I think that it's the safe because she's in so
role like horror movies, weirdly or actually movies.

Speaker 1 (07:04):
Probably, uh, but it's one that I kind of just
stumbled upon and really like. Another one like oh, yeah, well,
I mean Thirty Days Later or u oh Throwback.

Speaker 2 (07:21):
Days of Night thirty Days of Night Oma. Yeah, she's
like she's in several horror movies.

Speaker 1 (07:26):
Yeah, well this is one and I liked it. Uh.
Coherence is also a time travel slash weird science fiction movie.
It's not scary, but it's it's unsettling and it's like
a dinner party gone wrong. You know. I'm into dinner
parties going wrong these days. So that one's one I like. Uh. Oddity,

(07:47):
which is a new one. That one that one did
get a lot of traction amongst a certain group of
horror people. But I really like it, and it's kind
of twins and one of the can you touch something
and see what's going on? Red rooms? This one is

(08:08):
a French movie about true crime podcast, but it delves
into the really disturbing side when people get obsessed with it,
which we have discussed before on the show. So it
is upsetting. That one's upsetting, but I liked it. Presence

(08:28):
is a horror movie told from the ghost point of
view and it's one shot, I believe. Yeah, yeah, that
was a big one, and it has Lucy Lewin. It
just a family breaking apart, you know how you know
how it goes. Companion which is also kind of a

(08:50):
big newer one, but that one is about AI and
robots and bad dudes. Honestly, uh not great dating scenarios,
but I liked it. The New Final Destination actually really

(09:16):
liked I thought it was kind of funny in a
weird way. It was very meta, like very like, surely
this would never happen, and then you know, of course
it does. But it did make I'm glad we went
to Seattle the Seattle Space Needle before I saw that
I have to say I would have been nervous. Oh no,
I would have been so nervous. That's those movies are

(09:39):
so effective. I mean that there's like I don't know
if it was a study officially, but a lot of
people didn't even see the second one and still are
afraid to go behind log chucks because they saw the trailer.
They're just that effective. But yeah, yeah, it was that.
If I had gone up the Seattle Space, you'll after

(10:01):
saying that, I wouldn't have been on edge the whole time.

Speaker 2 (10:04):
The one thing they do is they play on people's fears.
They know you already have this fear, let's actually actualize it.

Speaker 1 (10:09):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, very effective. Stop motion is another. This
is a strange one, but it's it's about a woman
whose mom was like really renowned for making stop motion
movies and was very abusive towards her. And after her

(10:33):
mom dies, she gets really caught up in finishing her
last project and it, as you imagine, goes out, it
gets out of hand, it kind of comes to life. Oh.
Another French movie, Climax. This one's also very strange. I

(10:54):
it's kind of an experience watching it. I don't even
know how to describe it really, but basically, some drugs
were ingested that weren't meant to be ingested, and things gone. Yeah,
I guess I should say, no, these are sponsors. These
are just random, random movies I've found. I did like Cuckoo.

(11:15):
That one got a lot of traction too, and that's
kind of about like a bird species, a humanoid bird species. Uh,
that's just wow. That's hard not to spoil. But there's
a lot of like creepy ski loarge vibes and then

(11:36):
this bird humanoid bird species that you were trying to
figure out what's going on. I did like the new
Alien Romulus Isabelle mercead, isn't it? I watched Alien Earth
and I like it, but it makes me want to
break everything in my apartment, which I think is purposeful.

(11:57):
You're supposed to be mad. It's because it's like Elon
Musk is just there's a character based on Musk essentially,
and he's like, isn't this a great idea? And you're like, no,
that sounds right, terrible fact. I love this movie. This

(12:17):
is a Japanese movie. One cut from the dead. I
can't really talk about it without fooling the whole thing.
But I have to tell you watch If you're getting
like annoyed halfway in, just watch the end because like
the end makes it work. But if you don't watch
the end, because I remember being like, what is this?
You have to commit, You have to commit, but trust me,

(12:39):
it's worth it if you do commit. And that's like
a horror comedy. Mind Body Spirit. This is a found
footage film of a yoga influencer and you slowly watch
her just make a horrible decision because you're like, no,
probably shouldn't go in and mess with all these things
you're rest with. Yeah, uh huh okay, perfect yep yep,

(13:03):
yep yep. She's like in this big creepy house and
that she inherited from her grandmother and it's just becomes
clear that her grandmother was maybe involved in something she
shouldn't have been evolved. But I enjoyed it. Uh disappear completely.
That movie is really upsetting. That does have a death
of a dog in it, so I wouldn't recommend it
for you. That is a Spanish movie and it's very creepy.

(13:28):
It's very very creepy, and it's like got one of
the ah, it's just one of my biggest fears that
I hope is irrational, but it's of you. Basically, he's
losing all of his senses one by one and then
essentially becomes a dead body, but he's still alive. It's
worth the journey, even though I've just boiled the hell
of it for you. It's like worth the like horror

(13:51):
of how it happens. Oh, and they do it with
the effects so like you start losing your hearing, are
used to losing your vision, Like yeah, here are the
two Australian ones I mentioned in our recent episode on
Dangerous Animals, So Hotel Reale, that's the one I said

(14:11):
where they're like in the middle of nowhere, these two
women who are travelers and it's just like a really
misogynistic place and they kind of accept it because that's just,
unfortunately the reality. But it becomes apparent there's something much
more sinister going on, and then you'll never find me.
Is like a horror movie set in a mobile home

(14:35):
and it's just all moody and atmospheric and dark, and
it's lighting's all red and you don't know what's going on.
You don't know who's the villain. If there is one,
So that one's fun. Taking of Deborah Logan is a
good found footage. I love that One's a good one. No,

(14:57):
that was my two. Okay, okay, yeah, we're moving out.
Oh but this next one is Lake Mungo. I really
like that one too because it has a fun twist.
We're in like quotation yea very strong quotation. It gives me.
It gives me chills every time I see it. But

(15:19):
if you watch that movie, watch the credits because that's
when the answer kind of comes out. So those are
some of mine. I actually have a huge list in
front of me, but these are I can't go into
all of them, but like I said, if you want them.
I used to just send this to people during the pandemic,

(15:40):
and I would love to hear from listeners you're off
the beaten path horror movies or any any that you
thought were interesting that you've seen lately, because obviously some
of these were pretty new and pretty big. But you know,
we love good suggestions. So happy Halloween, if you celebrate
a happy horror movie times always if that's something that

(16:01):
you're into, and I'm very happy to give you, like
the honest tell me more about any of you like,
how sad will I be if I watch Good Boy?
Like if you I will, I will write it out
for you.

Speaker 2 (16:15):
So if you're on my level, don't watch it.

Speaker 1 (16:18):
No, don't, don't, don't don't. Even if you know the
dog doesn't die, it feels like he's a mortal peril
the whole time. Yeah, which is a stressor stressor enough,
but yeah, I would love to hear from you. Listeners.
