look back. Myles is very I care, Cary me, Jesus.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
We can we can do it like we can do
it like like you guys will all sit on each
other's shoulders and you can just be at the top
so we can put a trench coat and so it's.

Speaker 1 (00:59):
Just one sized one yeah, three person stack.

Speaker 4 (01:04):
And I got a bald head, like I can be
Monkby's head. You like Monk Wemby, You like look, yeah,
I like Monk Wemby. Can I just be a segment?
Can this be the show right now? We're just doing
Monk Wemby. Sarah, It's been great having you on this shows.

Speaker 1 (01:21):
This is just started.

Speaker 4 (01:23):
The episodes.

Speaker 5 (01:25):
It's been a real ride. I remember when you you
were but.

Speaker 4 (01:30):
A here we go.

Speaker 6 (01:35):
Alright, Oh okay, C has finally swung back after going
down to one and now leads this final series three
games to two, with teams heading back to Indiana for games.
We'll discuss that, uh and just what has been honestly

(01:57):
a great final series. I gotta say for me having
absolutely no interest with either team prior to this postseason,
I'm I'm fully bought in.

Speaker 1 (02:07):
Into the postseason heading into these finals. You were you
had your solitaire ready, Oh, you're ready to play solitaires?
Back then, I'm multi.

Speaker 4 (02:16):
Basketball was so good.

Speaker 1 (02:18):
Basketball was so good that you didn't even you looked
up from your solitaire and didn't even look back.

Speaker 4 (02:24):
Now, Jack, it was so good I decided to just
single tasking.

Speaker 5 (02:27):
Okay, I'm not even.

Speaker 1 (02:29):
Multitasking, decided to just single test.

Speaker 4 (02:33):
Anyway, We're gonna discuss that and many other huge stories.
I mean, there's actually some stuff also going on around
the league right now, Monumental things happening, uh with honestly.

Speaker 1 (02:43):
So monumental for one of our favorite monumental guests.

Speaker 5 (02:49):
Sorry, I'm sleep deprived for you.

Speaker 1 (02:51):
NBA drunk on sleep deprivation.

Speaker 4 (02:54):
Yeah, you know that's what they say. Jack, you taught
me that we're here what Sarah Todd on today's episode,
I'm I'm pretty sure I'm.

Speaker 7 (03:01):
Miles Gray and I'm Jack O'Brien. Definitely, And this is
Jack May.

Speaker 1 (03:14):
Welcome to Jakay. There's you go driving spinny.

Speaker 2 (03:23):
Number.

Speaker 4 (03:24):
That's good, John, So.

Speaker 1 (03:29):
Then on you.

Speaker 8 (03:38):
Go, NBA writer, a Utah jazz beat writer for Desert
ret News, tooth time Utah Sports writer of the Year,
one of the ogs of Miles and Jack of Manasa.
On this pan ultimate episode, Sarah Todd, thank you for
returning once more to Crasis with your wonderful president, one of.

Speaker 1 (03:56):
Our favorite guests of all time. And williams Off go
ahead keep tho.

Speaker 4 (04:03):
No, it's you, it's you, it's you. I remember the
first time we recorded.

Speaker 1 (04:07):
I was like, ft serious, No.

Speaker 2 (04:09):
I remember the first time I recorded too, because I
was I was staying at a friend's house, I think.
I mean it was the jazz off season, so probably
the rest of the NBA was playing, but and I
had gotten out of the pool to come record.

Speaker 1 (04:24):
That's right.

Speaker 3 (04:25):
I was so afraid that you guys were going to use.

Speaker 2 (04:27):
The video of like my sunburned face and my wet hair,
and I just I didn't know you guys you.

Speaker 1 (04:37):
Had very serious just got out of the pool to
record energy, yeah, which is what made us love you.
You were just like, yeah, what what's this now? Yeah?

Speaker 5 (04:45):
What are you talking about? I got this Okay?

Speaker 4 (04:47):
I was.

Speaker 1 (04:49):
Today yeah yeah, but coherent, yes, more intentionally drunk and
less drunk on s. Well, we're sure to have you
back here for as the show is winding down to
talk about the finals, to talk about what we can
expect coming up with the with the draft, with the

(05:11):
off season acquisition of Desmond Baine by the Orlando Magic.
But let's talk about the finals. Everybody, everybody's enjoying it
enough to actually watch.

Speaker 2 (05:21):
Yeah, I have no dog in this fight. And all
of a sudden, I'm a lifelong Pacers fan.

Speaker 1 (05:27):
I wo yeah, they're so yeah. I just I really
enjoy them. I really enjoyed watching their run through the
Eastern Conference. It's just been They've been a super fun team,
like one of the most fun offensive teams, and so
it has been a little bit like just watching them
get run down, slash walked down by Okay, see and

(05:50):
just watching the you know, I believe I can. I
think I can. I think I can, like flying, like
just watching that magic wear off as they run into
this wood chipper cliche.

Speaker 2 (06:02):
Cliche or just the known phrase whatever you want to
call it, is that like only one team gets to
win the championship every year, right, and.

Speaker 3 (06:10):
It's like that's the obvious thing.

Speaker 1 (06:11):
Let me let me think about it first. Actually, let
me go back through here. No, no, yeah, now you're
on some.

Speaker 2 (06:21):
But like for so many teams in the NBA, like
getting to the finals is such an accomplishment, right, And
I love that this Indiana Pacers team has kind of
shown the rest of the league like you don't need
a number one guy. Nobody before today these finals this
season would have ever been like oh the ending of Pacers.

(06:42):
All they need is like a couple of number two
or three option guys. Yeah, and Andrew Nimhard, right, Like
the Als weren't the guys that everybody thinks you're going
to build a team to go to the finals, But like,
yes you can if you just fill out your roster
with a bunch of dogs. Yeah, are going to run
constantly like you can get there. Whether or not they

(07:04):
can win is a different question, but like I love
this story for the rest of the league.

Speaker 1 (07:09):
Yeah, exactly do we think something has changed or is
this just like a special team at a special moment,
Like do we think that there's something about just like
how dynamic the offense is and like how you know,
just how much talent there is across the league that
means that like this is the future that it's not

(07:30):
about like compiling the three Stars, it's about just like
having the best bench, you know, the most scoring. Like
what do you think that this is the new direction
of the league or is this just you know, a
very special team.

Speaker 2 (07:43):
I mean, frankly, I think that the doesn't in Vain
trade shows that maybe there is a shift, right because
if you're a team like the Magic and you're like
you're in kind of the playoff field, but you're not
quite there yet, Like that is a team that I
think in years past ownership ship front office would have
been like, oh, we need to go get like the

(08:03):
guy now, right right, Desmond Bane's not that guy, but
he's a guy. And so I think if you're willing
to give up like for first and you believe in
that trade so much that those are the assets you're
willing to give up.

Speaker 3 (08:16):
Then I think that that's evidence.

Speaker 2 (08:17):
That like, no, we just want to fill out the
roster with the right guys, right, Yeah, I.

Speaker 1 (08:22):
Have a total bias against Desmond Vane just based on
he has too much muscles. I'm like, that's not that's
not what NBA player look like. Yeah, he has too
much muscles. He can't be that good.

Speaker 4 (08:33):
His mindsets are so thick it makes his arms look small.
That's right, there's like a visual mystery going on like that.

Speaker 2 (08:44):
Yeah, I'm a firm believer that, like people aren't allowed
to have more than one thing, like you know, like
the Ryan Goslings of the world. That's not fair and
you don't deserve anything because it can't be like a
good singer, a good actor, a good athlete and good looking.

Speaker 3 (08:59):
No, you get to help one thing.

Speaker 2 (09:00):
So like, no, you can't be desnmet being to be
like an incredible shooter but also have like the biggest
muscles in the world.

Speaker 1 (09:06):
No, what's really annoying to me. I was talking to
somebody who runs a like a couple basketball games around
l A and like has hooped with a bunch of celebrities,
and I was like, who's the best. He's like played
with Sandler and like all those people. And he was like,
you're not gonna like this answer, but he's really he's

(09:28):
taller than you think, really quick, Timothy. I was like,
what he's like, he's really quick, man, He's like hard
to stay in front of one and he's like he
can like put it in. I was like, are you
sure it was the Timothy Shallo May?

Speaker 5 (09:45):
Like, what are we sorry? Timoth tim Hardaway is what
I meant to say?

Speaker 1 (09:50):
Yeah, Jordan and Timothy Shallo May. I was like, Jordan
is like that that he's got the name. He seems
very athletic in the movies. But yeah, Timothy shall May
did not see that one coming. Should like again, that's
not fair.

Speaker 4 (10:09):
When you hear someone is taller than you think, what
is that actor?

Speaker 1 (10:14):
That means they're five ten?

Speaker 3 (10:16):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (10:16):
Yeah exactly.

Speaker 4 (10:17):
I'm like looking at him like he's five ten. I'm like,
that's service if an actor.

Speaker 3 (10:20):
If someone says it's taller than you think, it's anything
over five eight.

Speaker 5 (10:23):
Yeah, exactly right. Tom Cruise showed us what is shall
May listed as five ten? Is he really yeah.

Speaker 1 (10:29):
Wow. The person I was talking to not not a
super tall individual, so it could just be one of
the tall to you, yeah, friend, I would have gobbled.
I would have been gobbling them shot.

Speaker 4 (10:40):
Yeah, try and bring that nonsense in the Painton Timmy,
see what you got because I know that frame can.

Speaker 1 (10:45):
Dunking on me. I know. Yeah, Brian Goslin's at the
point where like if he could dunk, he would just
have to hide it because otherwise it would like just outrage. Yeah. Yeah, yeah,
your smoke is too tough and fat. Yeah. The CIA
has run the tests and the smoke is too tough.
They will actually kill you out it's too much. All right?

(11:09):
Oh man, we've covered the finals.

Speaker 4 (11:12):
Yeah, I mean, Sarah, what are you feeling now that
it's you know, the thunder are the game away?

Speaker 2 (11:20):
You've I long ago, before it all started, said that
it was going to be Pacers and seven wow, and.

Speaker 1 (11:28):
And you stand by it.

Speaker 3 (11:30):
I absolutely stand by it.

Speaker 2 (11:31):
I make I make all of my NBA predictions, not
with any institutional knowledge that I have sure, but with
the outcome that I hope happens because it would make.

Speaker 1 (11:43):
Me happiest, would be so fun, and just give me
a game seven please, Yeah, yeah, we'll deserve it.

Speaker 3 (11:51):
We don't we need something nice.

Speaker 4 (11:53):
And what's the status of Tyrese Haliburn Because like I said,
I'm sleep deprived and then I was like, oh is
he is he going to be out He's going to
give it a calf's going to go.

Speaker 2 (12:02):
But I mean, if I'm if I'm Haliburton himself, his
trainer Rick Carlisle, we're not talking about like this is
the second round. We don't want you to hurt yourself.

Speaker 3 (12:13):
Yeah, yeah, hit it out there.

Speaker 4 (12:14):
I want to see.

Speaker 1 (12:15):
I want to see.

Speaker 5 (12:18):
He's like, we want that thing spoon tender.

Speaker 2 (12:22):
If we're talking game two of the second round. I
don't want him to strain the calf anymore than he
needs to know. We have to run him out there
and see what he has do it.

Speaker 4 (12:33):
Yeah, I feel like, you know he's got and I
believe in him to really bring it together because you
know he was he was caught lacking the last game,
and I do this is what this is when it
this is what we don't need as somebody who became
a bandwagon Pacers Van suddenly.

Speaker 1 (12:50):
But I mean this is like I do feel like
we're seeing what happens when you try and play against Okay, see,
like they they are history great, like specifically perimeter defense.
You know, like they will gobble you up. They will
make you look foolish. And I feel like a lot

(13:11):
of people are like, where's Haliburt? Why is Haliburt not
stepping up? I'm like, if you just like put if
you could, like somehow clone SGA and put him on
the other team, I feel like he'd be looking terrible
right now too, because that, like their defense is the
best thing that any NBA team currently has right now. Yea,
And I mean I do hope Haliburton like solves it

(13:32):
or like figure something out and has like a game
six like he had against the Knicks. But I don't know,
I feel like that to ignore how good their defense
is and how much they're causing that is a little
I don't know, short sighted. But one thing they can't do. Okay,
so these defense, they can't stop TJ McConnell. Nobody can't.

Speaker 4 (13:53):
What, No, not even the guys at LA Fitness.

Speaker 1 (13:56):
How do we think it feels as an NBA player
to get scored by TJ McConnell like he's.

Speaker 9 (14:01):
Been doing it for he doesn't everyone, but like it's
I feel like they should have a support group for it,
because like his game looks like the most average his
point guard.

Speaker 1 (14:13):
His shot is just like real, like twenty four hour
fitness looking. Yeah, it's just like a normal good shot.
Like he's like dribbling around in the paint, not even
like thinking about shooting, and then you know, will hit
a fade away turn around like I don't know's it's
so wild, Like that's the.

Speaker 2 (14:32):
Beauty of it is that he makes it really is
he's not thinking about it. Yes, he's one of those
guys where like he's just dribbling around in circles and
you think that he's just trying to stay alive down
in the paint and like he really is seeing his
two pass options and like ooh there's a floater.

Speaker 1 (14:48):
Yeah, he just takes it. His game is like the
uh Woody Harrelson and white Man can't jump, Like if
he could wear.

Speaker 3 (14:57):
I've never seen a movie if he didn't.

Speaker 1 (14:59):
Wear that hat on his head, like you know, the
silly little running cap, Yeah, running cap, Like I feel
like that's the energy that it gives. And then he's
still Yeah, he had a really good game six. Yeah,
it is what Like I came into this series believing
like you're never safe against the Pacers, and now that

(15:20):
magic is starting to I don't know, I feel like
I'm believing less and less because of okay See and
just okay See is doing what the Pacers did. Like
Haliburton was like, we walk you down, and like it
feels like okay See's walking them down now.

Speaker 2 (15:35):
I think that, I mean, okay See deserves all of
the praise, especially what you were saying about their defense.
Like I just I can't imagine being an NBA player
and being like, uh, okay, they're gonna put cruise on me,
all right, he's out of the game.

Speaker 3 (15:49):
Okay, Fine, they're gonna put door on me.

Speaker 2 (15:51):
Okay, well well now Cason Wallace is gonna come double
teamy with Door. Like I just can't imagine what that
feels like as an NBA player. And so they deserved
so much credit, and Shay obvious like well deserved MVP
all things.

Speaker 3 (16:06):
But I just don't think that like.

Speaker 2 (16:07):
A series that is this close three to two heading
to a game six, like the Pacers deserve credit too,
Like yeah, absolutely, I think you know, a forty plus
point game from Jalen Williams is not guaranteed every night, Like, yeah,
they could have the they were, what three shots maybe

(16:28):
from Jalen Williams a beat away from being in that
game at so many points, they could have taken the
lead in the fourth quarter.

Speaker 1 (16:34):
Like Game five was really like felt like or sorry.
Game four was really like Indiana was in control and
then like some really strange decisions downstretch and like huge
missed free throws, strange calls, like a lot of stuff
happened to like tip it in the direction that we're

(16:54):
in right now. So, yeah, I don't think it's over
by any stretch of the imagination.

Speaker 3 (17:00):
Yeah, I hope not.

Speaker 4 (17:01):
Yeah, that Jay Dub performance in game five, it's crazy.
It shook me to my core, to the point that
I was hitting our group chat with Jabari and Jack
talking like an undercover cop. I'm like, Jalen Dub is
a problem right now. I'm like, why did I just
put it Jalen Dub, Jayleen Dub, excuse me, sir, I'm
not a police officer.

Speaker 1 (17:20):
Jay Jayleen Du my man, uh, Jalen Dubb, as we
call you on the streets, a good brother.

Speaker 2 (17:31):
Yeah, in the group chat when I have like, you know,
friends and colleagues of mine that are saying, like, man,
when Jaln Williams is going downhill, like he looks like
young Lebron and that's not something that I immediately laugh at.

Speaker 1 (17:44):
I'm like, hmm, like that's bad for the rest of
the league.

Speaker 3 (17:48):
Yeah, it was an incredible performance. It was just beautiful.

Speaker 4 (17:52):
How old is he?

Speaker 3 (17:53):
Not old?

Speaker 1 (17:54):
Not old at all. Yeah. The whole thing is this
whole thing is twenty four set for They were probably
about to win the title. They are the only team
that like seems like they haven't figured out in terms
of like what a second apron means. And I'm sure
other teams know that part, but like and like how

(18:15):
it fits into their future, Like it feels like they're
gonna be able to keep their core together in a
way that personally, I think isn't fair. I also was
reading about the draft because I'm a Sixers fan. This
is the most hopeful that I get to be, is
like when we're as far from the next season as possible.
I was reading about the draft and I got to
the Jazz and they were talking about how the you know,

(18:37):
the Jazz might be able to pick somebody who is
more of a project because they lose their pick next
year if it's not in the top eight, and if
it's not in the top eight, it goes to Okay,
see the exact same situation that the Sixers were in
this year, like, except our ours was like top five

(18:58):
I think or top six. PERTI like, yeah, this is
just like how things are now. Every year a team
that is bad has to give their picked. Oh okay,
see if they're like they're too good, it's yeah, so wild,
how set they are.

Speaker 4 (19:12):
It just feels like, you know, Presty is playing like
the most evil uno hand ever, Like like we're just
like wow again, Nah, you're holding all of them, all
the picks.

Speaker 5 (19:24):
Yeah, man, I mean at.

Speaker 3 (19:26):
Least in the in the Jazz's favor.

Speaker 2 (19:29):
I think that they're just gonna be bad enough to
where it doesn't matter, so the Thunder won't get that one.

Speaker 1 (19:33):
Yeah, that's right.

Speaker 5 (19:35):
I do have breaking news from past guests.

Speaker 4 (19:38):
Magan Gaily obviously are our most loyal Pacers fan on
the show. She messaged me on Instagram because she she's
in Indianapolis right now and she went to a couple
of games. She said, I just saw coach Jenny Jenny
Busick because we were talking about her the last time.

Speaker 5 (19:52):
She's like and I.

Speaker 4 (19:52):
Said, good luck, We'd love you. And then my son
said go Pacers, and she was so nice with the
crying emotion.

Speaker 1 (19:58):
I was like, oh, I knew Jenny Busick was the
all right, well, I mean that is inside information. I'm
not sure if the NBA is gonna allow us to
give that out, but then that's.

Speaker 5 (20:06):
We get scoops. We get scoops.

Speaker 4 (20:08):
You know.

Speaker 1 (20:08):
I hope no sharps are listening, because that's gonna move
the line a little bit. Jenny Blues a good person,
is really nice and and heard good Go Pacers. I mean,
this is this is gonna change some things.

Speaker 2 (20:23):
Yeah, and then when when man Boostie's is gone. These
are the kind of scoops that you want.

Speaker 1 (20:27):
Yet exactly, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. We're just speaking truth.

Speaker 4 (20:31):
And I'm just gonna have to bother people on the
bus like I used to with these things.

Speaker 5 (20:36):
I think in.

Speaker 1 (20:36):
Both cases, the fan base like the vibes around both
of these teams are really fun. The Pacers fan base
feels like they just found a bag of money, like
they're just like unhinged so happy, whereas like, okay, see
seems a little nerds, Like they found a bag of
money last year and now they're like a little bit
like scared of losing it. So that's that's my real

(20:58):
on the vibes around the team, Like the Pacers are
just like partying, man Like, they are having so much fun.
They seem so happy, so excited to be there.

Speaker 5 (21:08):
That's like the liberating part of being the underdog, you
know what I mean, Like that weight of expectation isn't there,
so you can really just kind of enjoy the ride
while also you know, going for it.

Speaker 1 (21:17):
Yeah, let's take a break, huh, come back, talk about
the more important news surrounding. I don't know the Los
Angeles Lakers, Philadelphia seventy six.

Speaker 4 (21:28):
I haven't heard what was that was going on?

Speaker 1 (21:29):
We'd be back.

Speaker 5 (21:39):
And we're back, We're back.

Speaker 1 (21:41):
Anything else? Just any final thoughts on the finals, Final
thoughts on the finals, Finals thoughts.

Speaker 5 (21:46):
Mmmm, finals thoughts.

Speaker 1 (21:48):
Because it's going to be this is this is our
last time to talk about the finals before it is over. Yeah,
one way or another. The final episode of Miles and
Jackot Matt Boost He's will be recapping the end of the.

Speaker 4 (22:00):
Entire series, all one hundred and seventy one episodes.

Speaker 1 (22:04):
It will be so yeah, we should we should flashback
episode that's the last episode. It's gonna be like, yeah,
remember that mile, you know, Yeah, that's how we extend
the show.

Speaker 5 (22:14):
As we start recapping the podcast.

Speaker 1 (22:19):
One to the exactly, remember when Sarah came on and
we kept talking about how we like how Steph Curry
shoots from way downtown because it's so far, so far,
so far. That one struck me about that one is
that it's so far.

Speaker 5 (22:35):
I noticed that too. I noticed that too.

Speaker 4 (22:37):
My question first off is like with the Desmond Bine trade,
I just I just saw that clip of him taking
shots at the Grizzlies old training facility when he's like,
how do you feel like with Orlando?

Speaker 5 (22:46):
He's like, man, the Memphis training facility didn't have any windows.
We called it the dungeon.

Speaker 1 (22:52):
Is that really? Yeah?

Speaker 10 (22:53):
He said?

Speaker 5 (22:54):
I was like, wow, okay, what.

Speaker 3 (22:56):
The poor guys so excited to just see daylight.

Speaker 4 (22:59):
I know, it's just so funny to hear that, like,
you got the new uniform on there asking somebody like
I came.

Speaker 1 (23:05):
From a place we called the dungeon. I mean like Bain,
he was born in the darkness.

Speaker 3 (23:12):
Wow, in the darkness.

Speaker 5 (23:17):
You merely played it.

Speaker 1 (23:18):
Oh man for the magic all right, So he obviously, uh,
three point shooter and they need shooting. But they did trade,
like at least, I mean, Cole Anthony could get really
hot and like be a knockdown three point shooter and
then Contavious callwell Pope was one of their three point options.
So I don't know, like it obviously Desmond Bane is

(23:40):
like more of an answer, more of somebody that you
can like go to in your offense. But it didn't
make a ton of sense to me, Like it didn't
seem like it's the solution that they're looking for. But
am I am I sleeping on Desmond Bane because of
my he have too much muscles of by jealousy, Yeah,
jealousy mainly.

Speaker 2 (24:00):
I think that it might be you might be sleeping
on Baine a little bit. I mean if we think
about like what the Grizzlies were able to do, like
in those stretches where Jaw was out but they were
still staying afloat, so much of that was because of
Bain and like he's capable of so much more than
just being like your spot up shooting guy like he

(24:21):
really does do well and pick and roll like he
handles the ball well. Like honestly, their pick and roll
numbers were better with Baine because seems like John doesn't
really like to or know how to play pick and
roll very well, and so I just think that he's
a lot more capable than maybe he gets credit for.
But your point is well taken in that you know,
they still have like sugs and other small guys and

(24:45):
doesn't Bane is not a big guy, and so it
just it feels like they're maybe staying small a little bit.
So yeah, I'm not sure exactly what it looks like
when the roster is all filled out or Yeah, I
don't know.

Speaker 1 (24:57):
And Casey was bad for them last year, JABORI played outs.
It's not like they're, you know, going off of somebody
who hit a lot of threes for them last year.
Is just it feels more like they're just going from
one like three point shooting option to another. I guess. Yeah,
And I only watched like the Cole Anthony get Like
when I'm thinking of Cole Anthony, I'm thinking about the
game where he just like went completely off and like

(25:19):
was unstoppable for an entire quarter, so that the question
then turns to Memphis. Well, so one thing I'll say
is that every NBA deal that happens now, I feel like,
you're like, man, they could have gotten a lot more
for Luca, you know, yes, well, like they got how

(25:39):
many first round picks did they get here? It's kind
of amazing. So Memphis, it feels like could be blowing
things up, Like it might make sense for them to
just be like, all right, let's let's just do it.
Let's go all the way down to the down to
the studs. Maybe, you know, go all the way down,
get as many picks as possible, you know, start winning

(26:00):
in the future, and then we can afford windows for
our training facility.

Speaker 5 (26:05):
Aspirational.

Speaker 9 (26:06):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (26:06):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (26:06):
At the beginning of the new season, they put up
a banner They're like we get in windows about how
the season's gonna go, like we're going.

Speaker 2 (26:13):
For the whole stephen a rant about like Memphis crime,
Like that's not what's actually important to NBA players, as
we know. Now after this week, it's windows, like ye
want to see some sunlight.

Speaker 4 (26:26):
Vitamin D apparently, like is everyone vitamin D deficient? Come on,
now I guess other things with just I mean, do
we talk Lakers?

Speaker 1 (26:33):
Yeah, let's talk about the Lakers. I mean this is
this is big news.

Speaker 4 (26:36):
Yeah, I mean it isn't a record deal for the
sale of a sports team actually in all the world.

Speaker 5 (26:41):
Yeah, ten billion dollars.

Speaker 4 (26:43):
Mark Walter is now set to buy the majority stake
in the Lakers. And so what does that mean with
Genie bust staying as governor? What sort of organizational power
comes along with being elo governor?

Speaker 2 (26:57):
I mean, I'm I don't know what I mean, Like
that's probably like an internal decision and whether or not
she has any power yet. I think that two things
that I can like have frame of reference for is,
like one, Mark Cuban was supposed to stay on as
some sort of power person. Not true, right, like when
you don't own the majority share.

Speaker 1 (27:17):
Of the team.

Speaker 3 (27:19):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (27:19):
Second frame of reference that I have is that when
Danny Ainge was hired as CEO for the Jazz, he
was named an alternate governor. And I think that that
just means that you can show up to like the
Board of Governor's meetings as a like procy for the owner.
And so I don't think that there's actually power in
that it's just a face right, all right.

Speaker 1 (27:40):
So this is from Ramona Shelburne. Important note Genie Buss
will not only remain the Lakers governor, but will continue
to run the team. For quote, this hurts the how
definitive this is trying to be? The only quote is
at least a number of years, at least a number,

(28:01):
according to sources with knowledge of the deal. In other words,
it was guaranteed as part of the agreement the Genie
Bus would remain. But at least a number of years.

Speaker 2 (28:10):
Is uh, you know what a number of years is
is one? One is a number?

Speaker 1 (28:13):
One is a number like one half is a number?
One say an integer. They said, at least a number
of years. It's yeah, the Cuban point is a really
good point, Like, but who knows, Like I don't know.
I didn't get the sense from the Cuban deal that
he like when when he did that, I was like, oh,

(28:33):
he's like kind of it feels like he's ready for
the next phase of this, you know, whereas the Genie
Bus thing almost feels like they offered us too much
money to say no to, Like it's actually impossible for
us to say no.

Speaker 4 (28:47):
Mark Walter has got a ton of money, and he
has access to a ton of money.

Speaker 1 (28:50):
And for people who don't know, like, what are the
other teams? The main the baseball This is the guy
who ruined baseball and football.

Speaker 4 (29:01):
Yeah, I'm just saying, Look he pointing World Series champions
patches on our hats.

Speaker 2 (29:06):
You want to say that he ruined baseball? My team
is owned by John Fisher, So.

Speaker 1 (29:14):
The a's the a's that's right. Yeah. Yeah, So I
don't know. I think everybody's assuming these are people who
scoff at the second apron, yeah and are just like,
I don't We're not even gonna like bother with that.
And they're starting with a Los Angeles Lakers team that
has Luka Doncic and Lebron James. So we'll see where
it goes from here.

Speaker 3 (29:34):
Can I ask you a question, like does this matter.

Speaker 1 (29:37):
Matters to this podcast? Because we are ultimately a Lakers
and seventy six ers fan podcast.

Speaker 2 (29:44):
Right, So, like for the Lakers section of this, like,
what do you think is going to happen or change?

Speaker 5 (29:50):
I think maybe just how reckless we can be with spending.

Speaker 1 (29:53):
Yeah that's good. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, I think it's
good for Lakers fans, is what I'm hearing from Lakers fans.
I mean, because you think of really good reporting.

Speaker 4 (30:03):
Geni bus didn't want to keep Alex Caruso because of
the money. Yeah, you know what I mean, and like
those are like sort of these like little decisions that
add up and you're.

Speaker 5 (30:11):
Like when someone's just like, baby, turn.

Speaker 4 (30:13):
The money hose on.

Speaker 1 (30:14):
Yeah yeah, okay, And because he looked like an extra
from Chernobyl, I think that was what she said. But uh,
the yeah, I've only heard Lakers fans. I've only heard
Lakers fans be happy about this news.

Speaker 4 (30:28):
Well, I mean again because in La our example is
he's part of that consortium of owners and the Dodgers
and turned things around there and just became maniacal with
our like habit to win. And you know also he
he's also part owner of the Sparks, like he's he's
into La sports and you know he he was also
he also did try to buy the Clippers in twenty
fourteen with David Geffen and Oprah. So I will forgive that,

(30:52):
but we are now you're number one, mister Walter, So
just please remember that.

Speaker 1 (30:56):
Very Clippers to fumble that one and you know, missed
the chance to have the owner that like ruins leagues
by spending so much on his team. All right, so
that sounds cool for you guys. Let's see other future
of the league stuff.

Speaker 2 (31:15):
Jack, how do you feel about the Sixers picking Ace
Bailey with them.

Speaker 1 (31:19):
I'm feeling Sarah Todd, I'm glad you asked that. I've
heard a lot of this draft.

Speaker 6 (31:25):
I was.

Speaker 1 (31:27):
I started complaining preemptively about them picking Ace Bailey because
I was like, all right, so as a seventy six
Ers fan, I have some experience with picking, you know,
top players who played on teams that stunk. Mark mel
Foltz was our number one pick and his college team

(31:48):
was like ten and twenty something. We had Ben Simmons,
whose team was like, I think a little under, like
a game under over five hundred. He was supposed to
be the best player in the world and they were
People were just like, has teammates stunk? And it's like,
well yeah, but like you're supposed to be able to

(32:09):
make your teammates better, Like that's kind of part of
being good at basketball. So I was like, knowing the
Sixers they are going to pick the second player from Rutgers,
a team that was bad and had to top five
like draft picks in it. However, I did take a
step back. I did my breathing exercises, and I have

(32:33):
taken into account that that was the old regime. Those
those picks happened under the it's a normal collar find
a new angle regime, and since Maury has taken over,
I think so Darryl Moury is guided. Like he has
some views that are outdated, I think, but so does

(32:56):
the rest of the league. Like he still has the we
need three stars to contend thesis that I think we're
now seeing is like maybe you know, five to six
seasons ago, but his draft picks. The first thing that
he did with the seventy six ers was draft time AXI,
and he got McCain last year. I think he's pretty
good at drafting. So I am back to being cautiously

(33:18):
optimistic for the first time in a long time. I
feel like they might get it right. And also, as
we're talking about this, the latest ESPN mock draft has
Ace Bailey sliding from third when people first started talking
about the draft down to six, So it might be
that people are starting to have the same questions that
I did. And because he hasn't worked out with a

(33:40):
single team, he's also doing that. He's also being.

Speaker 3 (33:42):
Like the only team that he's scheduled to work out
with is the sixth.

Speaker 1 (33:46):
Sixers, right yeah, yeah, ooh wait a second. That sounds
like we were like we like you man, We're you
don't have to work out with the rest for some reason,
You're our Yeah never mind, I feel bad again.

Speaker 2 (34:01):
Okay, So you said you think that the Sixers might
do the right thing.

Speaker 3 (34:05):
So is the right thing? VJ or Trey VJ.

Speaker 1 (34:10):
Is the only player, decides Cooper flag that I saw
this year and was like, what has happened? Like that
guy is so good? But he a lot of it
was like athleticism, and sometimes that is the thing that
like you get to the league and it's just like,
oh never mind, everybody is the best athlete it has

(34:31):
ever walked to the earth. So I don't know, like
I like what I'm hearing about Trey. I just I
don't like the Bailey thing for the reasons I mentioned.
But I'm gonna leave it in this time. I'm gonna
leave it in Darryl's hands. Yeah, I've decided, Okay.

Speaker 4 (34:48):
So just one set of footsteps on this one, though, Yeah,
gonna carry you.

Speaker 1 (34:52):
Okay, I'm feeling a lot like, have you guys ever
seen the movie Burn?

Speaker 3 (34:55):
After reading No, I've never seen a movie.

Speaker 1 (34:58):
Oh that's right, you have. Economically, there's a part of
the end where a CIA agent like after a bunch
of people, just like it's a real messed up situation.
He's like, so what do we learn? Damned if I
know that. That's not how It's kind of how I
feel at the end of this podcast run of like
talking about the seventy six ers, like, I don't know,
I don't know Burn. After reading Energy over here, Okay,

(35:22):
I think Wemby looks cool with his head.

Speaker 3 (35:26):
I just love literally anything that he does.

Speaker 2 (35:29):
I know, like it's kind of pathetic to be like
this much of a fan of a basketball player who
really hasn't done anything, but yeah, he I think he's perfect.

Speaker 1 (35:40):
Just like the videos of him playing soccer, the videos
of him playing hoops with the shaved head.

Speaker 5 (35:45):
I'm in it fully in monk mode.

Speaker 4 (35:47):
Yeah, hey, it's people come back with the shaved head.
Sometimes it does some to them, you know, look at
what happened.

Speaker 2 (35:52):
My only my only interaction with Wemby like beyond just
your regular post game stuff. Was like walking through the
halls in Utah before a game and he was doing
his you know, juggle tennis balls thing, and I kind
of like didn't realize that he was right there, which
just sounds crazy to talk about, like, you know, a

(36:13):
seven four guy like that.

Speaker 1 (36:14):
But I just don't like, doesn't process it as a human.

Speaker 3 (36:18):
It was like, oh, that's just a wall yea.

Speaker 1 (36:22):
Car wash man.

Speaker 3 (36:23):
And then I looked.

Speaker 2 (36:25):
Up and I saw it, and I just started smiling
because I was so happy to see it. And he
was like, you want one, and he was like gesturing
to the tennis balls and I was like what And
then he like as he was juggling, tossed me one
of the tennis balls and then I tossed it back
in and he kept juggling.

Speaker 4 (36:39):
Oh wow, It's just like so cool.

Speaker 1 (36:44):
Yeah, that's really cool.

Speaker 4 (36:46):
That's up there with Clyde Clyde Fraser talking about catching
a fly to look cool.

Speaker 1 (36:50):
Yes, you know what I mean. He's like, that's what.
That's one of my favorite Clyde stories.

Speaker 3 (36:53):
Sometimes I just.

Speaker 2 (36:54):
Juggle, well, whoever wants just throw one in here booming.

Speaker 5 (36:58):
Send it back. You can't stop this.

Speaker 1 (37:01):
I do like Miles that you were like, yeah, sometimes
people come back with a shaved head and are really good.
And your example was Derek White and Michael Jordan.

Speaker 4 (37:14):
I mean, but look, Weby's Wemby's hairline ain't going, so
I think it'll be different. This is more focus mode.
This is like hoodie mellow kind of energy.

Speaker 3 (37:21):
Maybe there is hope for Trey Young after all.

Speaker 1 (37:23):
That's right. Do you think has he let go? Has
he done it? No?

Speaker 3 (37:27):
He hasn't.

Speaker 1 (37:28):
Yeah, but if he doesn't, he could.

Speaker 4 (37:30):
I know, Trey take a page out of ELS's book,
baby let.

Speaker 1 (37:35):
It go and go let it go. He just walks
into the Hawk's workout facility and there's like a circle
of like his teammates and Derek White there and they're just.

Speaker 5 (37:46):
Like, hey, man, we want to talk to you.

Speaker 1 (37:48):
Let it go.

Speaker 4 (37:49):
As Pore mentioned, wow hairline intervention, Derek White exactly. Interview's like, hey, Trey,
good to meet you. My name is Derek. You know,
I've been talking with your teammates and I got to
tell you, man, these guys care a lot about you,
care a lot about you.

Speaker 3 (38:00):
And then we're just here to tell you how much
they love you.

Speaker 4 (38:03):
They're here to and if you don't mind, they're all
going to go around and just want to let you
know how much how much you're loved. All Right, you
open here and you're open hearing this. I think it's
gonna be great once't you sit down? Trey, Yeah, you're
gonna be yeah.

Speaker 1 (38:12):
Derek, Yeah, all right, it is that time. Let's let's
take a break and when we come back, Miles, Ah gotta.

Speaker 4 (38:19):
Do it to her. Last one with Sarah, last.

Speaker 1 (38:22):
One, Okay, do do do do do? It's a rapi
fire around a question.

Speaker 3 (38:27):
NA.

Speaker 5 (38:42):
I'm so sorry, Sarah.

Speaker 4 (38:45):
I hate to do this too, but this is this
is the fourth quarter rapid fire round of questioning. Okay,
this is and still will be the fastest question and
answer segment in all the sports podcasting history. We're gonna
ask you a question and you will respond immediately.

Speaker 5 (38:59):
You will not take your time.

Speaker 4 (39:00):
You will not slow this segment down, and if you
take too long, we will be rude to you.

Speaker 10 (39:05):
Okay, I can't wait. Yeah, absolutely, Prime, start the blog. God,
he is weeping, not these courage.

Speaker 5 (39:16):
This is curage water, courage, water coming out my face.

Speaker 4 (39:20):
Got courage, Jack, you want to go first.

Speaker 1 (39:23):
First, Miles, why don't you go first man, and.

Speaker 5 (39:27):
We'll just we'll trade these, We'll go back and forth. Yeah, Okay, Sarah,
I'm gonna do a little bit of this or a
little bit of that.

Speaker 4 (39:35):
Which player would you rather see Shay back in the
nineties or prime and healthy Penny hard Away in today's game?

Speaker 1 (39:44):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (39:44):
Penny hard Away today?

Speaker 1 (39:46):
Yeah, I mean that disrespect for Shay.

Speaker 4 (39:51):
You mean the question marks around Penny's Tenny's career without
the injuries.

Speaker 3 (39:57):
That I think Shaye is.

Speaker 2 (40:00):
I think that he could just fit seamlessly, honestly in
the nineties. That doesn't really feel.

Speaker 3 (40:03):
Like it would.

Speaker 1 (40:04):
Yeah, change too much.

Speaker 5 (40:05):
Yeah, for sure.

Speaker 1 (40:08):
Michael Jordan, the aforementioned guy shaved his head, came back
pretty good. I guess he was good before it. So
I respect the omission. Miles Jordan in the modern NBA
or Lebron in the eighties Jordan today. Jordan today is
just like too intriguing. I just want to see what
it likes.

Speaker 5 (40:27):
Say this every time the social media does he get twitted.

Speaker 1 (40:31):
I just like his game, though, I just want to
see what he's doing in the modern NBA.

Speaker 2 (40:36):
Also, I would have been a little tiny child in
the eighties. No today, Sarah wants to see Michael Jordan play.

Speaker 5 (40:44):
The game, right right, Yeah, for sure?

Speaker 1 (40:49):
All right? Should we do hairstyle intervention for NBA players?

Speaker 4 (40:52):
Yeah, God, we were already talking about hairstyle intervention.

Speaker 1 (40:56):
So you can't choose Trey because he's already the intervention
is already happened. Derek White came to him and said, Hey,
these guys care about you.

Speaker 5 (41:05):
Or you can send someone.

Speaker 1 (41:07):
Yeah, you can send someone to Turkey. You can do
whatever you want, but we want some ideas for at
least one NBA player of what they could be doing,
but they could be doing differently with their hair.

Speaker 2 (41:19):
Yeah, you remember when like Elfred Peyton had a crazy
thing going on, there was Lonnie Walker's crazy thing for
a little while.

Speaker 1 (41:29):
Describe the crazy thing.

Speaker 2 (41:30):
There is just like a either like one large lock
that kind of curved in one direction.

Speaker 1 (41:36):
Okay, yeah, yeah, yes, the big lock yeah yeah.

Speaker 2 (41:42):
Yeah, yeah, And there was a I mean, Lonnie Walker
had a bunch of different iterations. But I just think
that we need more the strange hair. Like, yeah, I'm
tired of guys being so normal.

Speaker 1 (41:55):
Me too.

Speaker 2 (41:56):
I want Cason Wallace to have a mohawk. I don't
like whatever, whatever it is.

Speaker 3 (42:01):
We just need more interesting hair in the NBA.

Speaker 4 (42:04):
Right exactly, Like yeah, I like armand gilliam with the
with the gumby Hairdo you know that was fun?

Speaker 1 (42:12):
Yeah? Did Kittles have that for a little bit? Carry Kittles.
I feel like he had a little He came in
as a rookie, just picturing his one sock when he
left Philodova.

Speaker 4 (42:23):
Yeah, he's just one sock up one day.

Speaker 2 (42:25):
Like even Jalen Green, he had his curls just beautiful. Yeah,
and and then he just got them braided back and
I was like, let those curls breathe.

Speaker 1 (42:38):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (42:39):
It's kind of like with Jaylen Williams too. I loved
how wild his hair was braided it to I'm like, no,
you're too focused with these braids.

Speaker 2 (42:47):
Kobe White, Anthony Black also yeah, yeah, let it out.

Speaker 3 (42:52):
Let your hair be wild.

Speaker 1 (42:54):
Is anybody doing the rod like dyed hair? I think
that I've seen a couple of people with dyed hair,
but it's not likedmin spurs. Yeah. Yeah, like Green.

Speaker 3 (43:03):
Yeah, we had Jerry's so handsome.

Speaker 1 (43:06):
A little bit it wasn't quite there, but yeah.

Speaker 4 (43:09):
Yeah, didn't he have like straight up green hair?

Speaker 1 (43:11):
Oh he did. Yeah, Okay, it was pretty wild.

Speaker 4 (43:14):
I remember being like, okay, young man, Yeah it was.

Speaker 1 (43:18):
Yeah, Like I don't know. It just feels like the
tattoo palette is full, like yes, you cannot do any
more tattooing to catch our attention. But like the.

Speaker 3 (43:27):
Hair Chris Anderson filled the void.

Speaker 1 (43:30):
The hair is a is an open palate, as the
saying goes.

Speaker 4 (43:35):
I believe in the youth of the NBA because they
feel like the ones who are so like you think
about how loud the on court trends are with like
kids playing pick up and stuff like sure Jack and
our day we were just one of some baggy North
Carolina shorts. These kids are like neon socks, like pink
and orange sneakers, Like that's that's gonna I feel like
we're close to that with the hairstyles.

Speaker 1 (43:56):
For like, the team I played on from like third
grade to seventh grade had uh, the same shorts that
they'd had since the seventies, and they were like stocked
in Stockton was like, no, these are too short, this
is this is profane.

Speaker 3 (44:14):
Yeah, and they like the thickest polyester.

Speaker 1 (44:17):
Polyester just like itchy, like what like they were cut
from a sweater and they fas and like I was,
this is a period where like the shorts that I
wore when not playing basketball or just like not like
at any other time, we're like down like right above
my ankles, and so I would sag them to a

(44:38):
degree that was like count counter yeah, just based off yeah,
yeah exactly, just like does that guy have the longest
torso of all time?

Speaker 2 (44:50):
Moment So on the hair front, yeah, like some nineties
extra tall flat tops, like you know, get it play stuff.

Speaker 4 (45:05):
That's what I want to see, right exactly, bring the
ewing style back, all that, all that.

Speaker 5 (45:09):
Yes, I mean I feel everything cyclical.

Speaker 4 (45:11):
So we're bound to, Like there's gotta be some teenager
who's gonna stumble upon an old episode of in Living Colors.
I'm like, did you see the hairstyles?

Speaker 1 (45:20):
Dude?

Speaker 2 (45:20):
If we can get if we can get nineteen year
olds wearing like Metallica and Grateful Dead shirts and postgames.

Speaker 3 (45:25):
Yeah, we can get some weird hair.

Speaker 4 (45:27):
We can get a gumby haircut, please please please? Uh Sarah,
who is the player that we won't pay enough attention
to that will swing the most wins next season.

Speaker 1 (45:37):
Like getting acquired, getting traded.

Speaker 5 (45:40):
What's that little piece.

Speaker 1 (45:41):
That's a little piece.

Speaker 4 (45:42):
It turns it all up.

Speaker 2 (45:44):
I'm interested to see where Austin Reeves ends up. If
he ends up somewhere else, then that could be the right.

Speaker 1 (45:50):
There's also kind of a low profile guy named Lebron
James on the Lakers who be interesting to see where
he ends.

Speaker 4 (45:56):
But yeah, Lebron, maybe maybe hairstyle and avenger for you,
my man.

Speaker 1 (46:02):
I've been wanting him to shove into it for a while.
