rematch of the four teams that were actually in the
Bubble Conference finals in twenty twenty.
Speaker 2 (00:09):
So we'll get.
Speaker 1 (00:10):
Into Nuggets Lakers Man Nuggets absolutely, Uncle. Like I said,
you'll play bumple ball. But if it's a perfect game,
I could not believe it. Then we'll get into Celtics heat,
which we have not seen yet but.
Speaker 3 (00:22):
Will be happening y'all by the game one.
Speaker 1 (00:24):
We have not, we have not, we are We are
here just with baited breath, waiting to see what happens there.
Speaker 3 (00:29):
And we'll talk.
Speaker 4 (00:30):
About the Spurs they get the Wow Wow, all of
that and more with NBA reporters Bara Hainey on today's episode.
Speaker 5 (00:40):
I'm Miles Gray and I'm Jack O'Brien and this is
my cat, mad Booste.
Speaker 3 (00:50):
Davis. There you go, indeed, driving Spinny Curry a three pointer?
Speaker 6 (01:00):
Stop coming from down Tell again show time.
Speaker 1 (01:09):
Welcome as bar Hani Man, thank you so much for
joining us. You host the Objective Basketball Pod, the No
Good Pod. You grew up a Kobe Lakers fan and
then fell in love with your raptors out there in Toronto.
Speaker 3 (01:21):
But yeah, I guess you know where where should we start?
Speaker 1 (01:23):
Should we just talk about the sad Sixers and then
we can get into the other sure?
Speaker 6 (01:27):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (01:27):
Listen. By the way, I will say, what a fun intro.
That was a fire intro. I don't know if y'all
like already, thank you little poetic thing for y'all if.
Speaker 3 (01:40):
You appreciate that, appreciate that.
Speaker 5 (01:41):
S see, we need more Canadian No, I mean that
leads us into because you switched allegiances, I'm planning to
switch after this. After this. Yeah, I'm just I'm on
the open market. NBA teams. You let me know you can,
you can recruit me to your fandom, but I'm honestly
I'm gonna root for whoever on. So it's basically a
Lakers Yeah, you might have it's a Lakers pod at
(02:04):
this point.
Speaker 3 (02:06):
I mean yeah, with bits of objectivity here and there, I.
Speaker 5 (02:08):
Will say I told y'all the Sixers we're gonna lose.
Speaker 1 (02:13):
Jack Rodamis has come through. He saw you saw the
Matrix neo and you told us there.
Speaker 5 (02:20):
I told y'all at the end of last season when
they went out to the heat, I said, well, if
it's the core of doc mbid and Harden, they're not
getting out of the second round.
Speaker 7 (02:33):
Yeah, they were bettering on too many like bad horses,
you know, like like it's like betting on four different
people that just know how to lose, you know.
Speaker 8 (02:43):
Yeah, yeah, And I mean it's just the the level
of coaching, the level of play in the second round
is just at a consistently high enough level that is
going to be their gravitational equilibrium.
Speaker 5 (02:57):
Barring them making a really great hire to replace Doc
Rivers or some change in the chemistry of the top two,
top three.
Speaker 2 (03:07):
But it did.
Speaker 3 (03:08):
Yeah, it just.
Speaker 5 (03:10):
They are who we thought they were when they lost.
Speaker 3 (03:13):
Jabari and I held out hope. We were like, Jack,
come on, now, you could do something here. You might
be able to close it. Or you're like, we're not
doing that.
Speaker 5 (03:21):
My heart rate never got above forty five?
Speaker 3 (03:25):
Are you? Are you an Olympian with that such a
low base arts.
Speaker 5 (03:29):
But I'm already seeing some sixers fans being like, I
just think we run it back. We get a three
and D guy, we get a new coach, and we're
good and uh, you know, arrested development boys. They were
not good.
Speaker 1 (03:41):
In fact, they did not do us. I mean yeah,
I mean, and also credit to you know, the Celtics.
It's yea, they look they look they were ready. They
were ready, and y'all like on defense, you tried to
shut Jason Tatum down in a lot of different ways.
But at times you're like, I don't know how committed
the Sixers weren't even playing defense.
Speaker 7 (04:00):
They're like, I don't know how committed the Sixers were
to doing anything at that point. Honestly, like they had
some weird lapses, like towards the end of Game six
and towards the end of Game seven, it just looked
like they were like, you know what, we're mailing it in.
Speaker 3 (04:14):
We've come as far as we can.
Speaker 7 (04:15):
We did what we could. You know, we gave people hope.
His heart rate went to like forty five in league, right,
you know.
Speaker 5 (04:23):
I mean that that felt like, I guess what happened
in Game seven was what I kept expecting to happen
throughout the series. My main takeaway is that Boston can
be the best team in the league by a good margin,
but they just consider like aren't consistently for whatever reason.
Speaker 2 (04:43):
Right.
Speaker 5 (04:43):
And it's the same takeaway I had from the Hawked series.
There are some quarters where they don't show up and
like play the way that their fans seem to know
they can that, you know, basketball fans, and like, I
still haven't heard like the closest I've heard to somebody
who just explaining it is like the Marcus Smart he's
(05:04):
the alpha, and so like everything starts running through him,
and he takes some of the biggest shots and then
like the flow of the offense gets messed up and
then that affects their defensive effort or something.
Speaker 3 (05:15):
But we'll see, maybe they write it.
Speaker 5 (05:17):
I know a lot of people seem to think like,
all right, well, now that Tatum has figured it out,
hung fifty one on the Sixers, they're good. But my
overall feeling these playoffs is that we keep being like, well,
now they've figured it out, the Nuggets have figured it out,
and the Nuggets have figured out the Lakers or Jason
Tatum has figured it out, and now he's going to
(05:38):
do that every game going forward, and that just hasn't
been the case.
Speaker 7 (05:42):
It's like they you.
Speaker 5 (05:43):
Have a good game and then the other team, you know,
takes it up a notch and they're also trying to
beat you. So yeah, I don't know, they're I think
at their best. They are by far the best team
in the NBA. Yeah, I just don't know what stops
them from being that every night, which is not an
(06:03):
insult to them. It's hard to be the best team
in the NBA. It's just it's unclear, like what changes
from game to game, just like it is with the
Sixers with Harden, Like, I, yeah, it looks like he's
not trying, but there's something else, like that's that's happening
there that like their defensive adjustments that don't allow him
to like see the game the way he wants to
see it.
Speaker 1 (06:24):
Yeah, And I think adding time Lord to the starting
lineup was huge, Like seeing the effect he had over
like Derek White, I was like, it's he had like
he had a presence that it felt like was affecting
Embad's confidence at times.
Speaker 7 (06:36):
And I was like, wow, I don't know if they
could do that in that in this heat series though.
That's the that's the one thing I'm worried about, Like
I don't think they can go big like that. They
probably have to start one of him or Horford.
Speaker 5 (06:47):
But yeah, this is a tough one because this is
a series that the listener already has like a full
game on us, right because this is coming out tomorrow,
so they they've seen a game. But I really have
a strong feeling that the Heat are being vastly underrated
in the like the level of underdog that the Heat
are in Vegas is wild. But y, yeah, you just
(07:09):
a lot of like the NBA experts seem to just
be doing the well. The Celtics have figured it out
and now they're going to be the team we know
they can be.
Speaker 1 (07:17):
Yeah, and they very well could. But then also, like
I think there's something to the revenge plot line and
like even Jimmy Butler's words last year when he was
just basically like, no, we're going to come right back
and we are going to do it this time, and
he they've they've been.
Speaker 6 (07:33):
True to their word.
Speaker 2 (07:34):
But yeah, it'll be.
Speaker 3 (07:35):
It will definitely be.
Speaker 1 (07:36):
I hopefully we're not being like and they were blown
out by fifty, But I think I think there is
something there. What like, as how you looking at this
Eastern Conference final matchup.
Speaker 7 (07:47):
Yeah, I agree with y'all. I think like it's as
someone said, there was a four percent chance the Heat
would win this series, something along the lines of that,
and I just think that's that's ridiculous, Like, yeah, the
Heat have all the like, all the playoff type guys
that you could want on a roster, like I know
Warriors fans would have loved the Kevin Love on their
(08:08):
team or a Kyle Lowry on their team or whoever.
Those are just guys that are gonna do well in
a playoff series, you know, And I think that's gonna
push them over the edge in certain categories. I don't
know if they're gonna win this series, but it's definitely
not gonna be a five game series or a six
game series. I feel like this goes seven, to be
honest with you, just like it did last year. And
that's just because of Jimmy and Bam and the other
(08:31):
guys that I just mentioned that are just playoff dogs,
Like they really really know how to win in a
playoff setting, how to carve out an advantage. I think
that stuff is so important, is like when things aren't
going right for you in the playoffs, how are you
going to figure out a way to just will how
to win? And they do that very very consistently. With Boston.
You sort of mentioned it earlier with like why they
(08:52):
go through these flows and sometimes they're completely off and
sometimes they're you know, the best team in the NBA.
A lot of that has to do a shoot, Like
they rely on the three point shots so much and
they don't have a legitimate way of getting their offense
going other ways. So if they're hitting their shots, yeah,
they look like the best team in the NBA. If
(09:12):
they don't, you know, they're going gets tough and right. Yeah,
I think that probably applies in this series too.
Speaker 5 (09:18):
Yeah, we'll see I mean the coaching, like they're going
against one of the best coaches. They're going against somebody
who has been able to bend other series so far
this season to his will and Jimmy Butler. So I
don't know, the Celtics as always could just be that
team that we know they can be for the whole thing.
(09:41):
But for some reason, the series seems like I'm leaning
heat on this series, even having seen what they did
in Game seven against the Sixers, I just think the
Sixers were.
Speaker 3 (09:53):
Not the team to do it.
Speaker 1 (09:54):
So you just think over seven games that they will
the edge will come out with you know, the coaching
and the will of some of these players.
Speaker 5 (10:03):
Yeah, and I think, I mean, I definitely think Mazzola,
the Celtics coach, you know, got better and is one
of the reasons that they won that series against the Sixers.
I think he made some really smart adjustments. It's always
tough because like Tatum is young and clearly still figuring
things out, and so yeah, maybe he did just figure
(10:23):
things out in that game seven and now he's going
to be unstoppable. But yeah, there's just something about what's
happened so far, and like when I'm listening to other
people talk about this series, it seems like the mistakes
that they're making are the ones we keep talking about
on this show, where it's like Celtics have figured it out,
and like the thing that's been happening so far, like
(10:44):
the heat, this thing's over right, Like they right right,
They're not going to keep doing what they've been doing
up to this point, and the Celtics will keep doing
or will stop doing what they've been doing up to
this point, and you know, suddenly just put it together
and win four games in a row like play as
(11:05):
well as they can, and it just feels like that
hasn't been what we've seen so far. So yeah, we
shall see Celtics fans getting my mencheese. I know you will.
Speaker 1 (11:14):
Getting my men cheese because they're getting fro yo. I
don't know if that's too regional for.
Speaker 7 (11:20):
I got that reference. I was like talking to someone
about how menchies used to be the thing in high
school and nobody does that anymore. Not nobody even goes
to any you know what.
Speaker 1 (11:29):
Yeah, look, this isn't a commercial, but hey, we're about
to hit you with some commercials because we're about to
take a break and we'll be right back after this.
Speaker 3 (11:45):
And we're back. Jackie had some additional thoughts.
Speaker 5 (11:48):
Yeah, what one additional thought is just super producer Jabari
pulled like, how the Vegas odds for this Eastern Conference
Finals compares two past series. So negative five hundred means
that you need to bet five hundred dollars to win
one hundred dollars, which means that like, you're a huge favorite.
(12:09):
So the Celtic are basically as favored to win this
series as any team in the Eastern Conference over the
past five years. So then the Bucks versus the Hawks
were the only other time that somebody was minus five hundred,
and that was when everyone was like the Hawks, Wow,
(12:31):
how did they even get here? And The way they
got here was they beat the Sixers NBA. The Sixers imploded.
Speaker 1 (12:41):
Let's talk about some good fortunes, huh, because somebody hit
the Wemby lottery and that's somebody is the San Antonio Spurs.
Speaker 5 (12:51):
Do we think he really was that happy that the
Spurs won? Do we think he just knew heading in
like I've got to pretend like I'm happy with whatever
comes out here, or nah?
Speaker 7 (13:02):
They know beforehand, like they do the draw beforehand, so
all of them know. If see this is funny. I
was watching it on TV on mute because I was
I was at a baseball game and you could just
see the reactions of the dudes when they're introducing them,
and in that moment you can find out who won
the lottery. In that one second they showed the person.
The Spurs guy was cheesing like he was smiling like crazy,
(13:25):
and I'm like, they won the lottery.
Speaker 3 (13:27):
They yeah, he was.
Speaker 7 (13:28):
He was going like even before they even did the
fourteenth pick, he was smiling like crazy. I'm like, he's
the one who want they wait, that's real. Yeah, they
do it way beforehand. They do it like an hour beforehand,
and then they do the like, you know presentation.
Speaker 3 (13:42):
I guess on TV where's the intrigue.
Speaker 5 (13:45):
I thought he was just happy because he was a
billionaire's son.
Speaker 1 (13:49):
Yeah, just generally happy for his well, generally happy versus
he knew something. We did it, Yeah, I mean former
guest shout out Warren Shaw. He called it on the
show earlier this year. He said it was going to
the Spurs.
Speaker 3 (14:01):
I mean, not that.
Speaker 5 (14:02):
I mean, so people have known since then. Yeah, I
guess I believe Warren knew somehow somehow.
Speaker 1 (14:08):
But yeah, I think we were talking about where we'd
like to see him.
Speaker 3 (14:11):
I personally would.
Speaker 1 (14:12):
Have it would have been cool to see Detroit just
turn into like a something really fun to watch again.
Speaker 3 (14:16):
But I don't know if be dealing with pop that
I like that. I mean, I don't know. I mean
I like it for him.
Speaker 5 (14:22):
I like it for him seeing him do like the
best that he possibly can do, and I feel like
that's the place to But we we've seen them have
some of the best like development player development of the
past like two three decades, So yeah, I was happy
for Like, I didn't know how it was going to
(14:43):
feel until they actually revealed it, and then that one
just felt right to me, I'm pretty happy for him.
Speaker 7 (14:50):
It's funny because, like, I didn't necessarily have a preferred destination,
not a not a specific spot to go. But I
would have been cool if portl And got it because
it would have just made what happened in the summer
a lot more difficult for them. It's like, Okay, do
we is Wenby good enough for us to contend with
Dame and we can just hope that he's good enough
(15:12):
right out the gate so we can go ahead and
do this right now, or do we have to just
trade off Dame, start over and build around Wemby. I
just think that would have been a cool kind of
thing to think about. And then also Portland's been robbed
so many times in the draft and you think about
like MJ, you think about Greg Oden, you think about
all that, right, so it would have been cool for
them to get it with the Spurs. It's kind of
(15:32):
crazy though, right the Admiral, then Tim Duncan and now Wemby.
So it's it's crazy how this happens. And then they
have the Tony Parker connection too, and I know he's
he's a big I think he's going to be involved
with the team next year, especially with Wemby coming.
Speaker 5 (15:49):
So, like, just as a straight up translator, Yeah, Papa
saying what he's like a guy who speaks French.
Speaker 1 (15:56):
He's like, look, mon Ami, there's going to be some
transitional growing pains going.
Speaker 6 (16:01):
Y'all had meat.
Speaker 7 (16:03):
You guys had at some point, right, Yeah, exactly, you
guys I barbecue for the first time.
Speaker 3 (16:08):
You know, see how he does put some meat on him.
Speaker 7 (16:10):
Hey, that's the biggest question. It's like, how is that
dude gonna transition from living in Paris to living in
San Antonio?
Speaker 2 (16:17):
Yeah?
Speaker 7 (16:17):
San Antonio.
Speaker 5 (16:18):
San Antonio is the Paris of that very specific part
of Texas. So or he can move to Paris, Texas, right, Yeah,
not even Paris, the Paris of Texas.
Speaker 7 (16:29):
San Antonio.
Speaker 1 (16:30):
Yeah, He's anything to be near something called Paris River.
Speaker 5 (16:34):
Walk is very nice. It's also like an opportunity for
him to, you know, continue to grow up in a
smaller community, which is which is probably nice.
Speaker 3 (16:44):
Right.
Speaker 5 (16:44):
Yeah, I'm sure his life will be very normal.
Speaker 7 (16:48):
The funniest part of the whole draft process was his
reaction to hit Houston not getting the first overall pick.
Did you guys see that?
Speaker 6 (16:55):
No?
Speaker 7 (16:56):
So he he like went like he did like the
Kobe when Kobe hit the game, or he did this
like he fis pumped like crazy when Houston didn't get
the number one pick. He was really happy about that.
I can't blame him. I honestly can't blame him for that.
But yeah, yeah, wow, Okay, Well he let it be known.
Speaker 3 (17:14):
He let it be known.
Speaker 1 (17:15):
How do you feel about his transition to the league.
Is it going to be seamless? Is it going to
be fraught with chaos? Is his body will.
Speaker 3 (17:22):
It hold up? Any concerns for you? Gus?
Speaker 7 (17:25):
The one question not even concerned because I think Wemby
will be a good player. We were talking about this yesterday.
But like the base level of what Wemby is as
a player, just because he's seven foot four, he has
incredible foot speed, He's still like going to be a
great defender. Even if none of the offensive stuff projects
and actually happens at the professional level, He's still going
(17:46):
to be a potentially all time defender. The health concerns
are always going to be there, like like whether his
body can sustain, But apparently his team has been doing
a really really good job of like building out his muscles,
like I saw this video of him and he's like
without socks on. He's doing like these leg crawls, uh
to warm up, and it's for some reason, it like
(18:08):
it builds the smaller muscles in your feet so that
he doesn't get foot injuries and ankle injuries ligament problems.
So I don't know. I think I think we're good
on the health side of things. My question is about
the hype. And I've been thinking about this because of Lebron,
because like the Zion hype for a lot of people
in Canada, like it was Wiggins, right, it was crazy
(18:31):
to see what would happen with him. Not a lot
of guys end up living up to that hype. Bron
is maybe the only guy in my line. Yeah, yeah,
and Kareem and like Kobe as well exactly.
Speaker 3 (18:42):
I mean there are a lot of not this coming. Yeah, yeah,
I like that.
Speaker 7 (18:49):
And it was the thirteenth overall pick, like he's not
he wasn't gonna.
Speaker 3 (18:52):
Sorry, I'm getting a little Laker centric.
Speaker 5 (18:55):
But it's Yeah, I think we like the Lebron thing
is I think what super underrated that he was able
to do it. Yeah, Like yeah, with you know, just
growing up in it's like growing up in Truman Show,
you know, it's like just all all eyes were on him.
(19:17):
There were billboards in his hometown that were aimed only
at recruiting him to Nike and Adidas say with putting up,
please sign with us, sir, young fourteen year old, and
like that. It is a miracle that he didn't go
crazy and that he ended up like delivering on the hype.
(19:39):
So I don't know in that respect, I feel like
from one side of that, I'm like, I think we're
probably overrating how sure of a thing this is, because
Lebron like made it through that and was was so great.
On the other hand, it's just like sometimes you know,
and like Lebron was the last time that the hype
was this great and people just new, just had a feeling,
(20:01):
And it does feel similar here where it's just the
only problem is, of course he's seven to four and
plays like a point guard, and I do worry about
the health stuff, Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2 (20:11):
For sure.
Speaker 1 (20:11):
Yeah, but it'll be wild to see him take two
steps from half court and then already be finishing.
Speaker 2 (20:16):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (20:16):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (20:16):
Like that's the thing about Lebron is that his greatest
skill was his indestructibility like that, and that was not
something anyone could have seen coming, you know, right.
Speaker 1 (20:25):
Right right, yeah, I mean like Wenby's he's going a
euro step from the other like foul line, yeah, and
finishing like yeah.
Speaker 7 (20:31):
The crazy part is, like le Bron, the health is
the most underrated part of it. Like it takes it
takes a special type of human being to be able
to play twenty years of professional basketball and not miss
I mean he's missed some time in the last couple
of years, but you know what I mean, Like he's
been pretty healthy throughout his career. That's that's rare, you know. Yeah,
(20:53):
I don't know. I guess that's the one concern I
have Wemby. But otherwise, man, like I really I believe
I'm a Wenby believer.
Speaker 1 (21:00):
I don't know, you mean, off the clips, I absolutely
want him to to make good on everything I've seen
because it's I just can't I want to see that
in the league, Like I just want to see this
all happen and just have to see, like who can
figure him out?
Speaker 3 (21:13):
Or if he's figure out able, can can they figure
him out? Jack? Can he be figured out?
Speaker 7 (21:18):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (21:18):
It's not so Wemby had a bad game in game
three of them. The league has figured figured him out.
It's over for him. Yeah, he assuming they're not not
everybody's trying to be good at basketball and right, but.
Speaker 3 (21:34):
Yeah, that's exciting.
Speaker 5 (21:35):
Like I don't know why, but like seeing him like that,
now that we know where he's going, I just got
more excited. I'm like, well, I guess I'm a Spurs
fan now for uh, maybe that's what I'll switch to.
Speaker 1 (21:46):
Right right, Well, speaking of thirty eight year old Lebron James,
I really can't get used to hearing when I hear
commentators say that like Lebron James at thirty eight years old,
I'm like, I'm thirty eight, man, Stop making it sound
like I mean, but I get it. For what he's
doing the NBA, it is novel, But I just don't
it's funny to hear people be like, I mean, at
thirty eight, what he's doing just on paper will always
(22:08):
sound very funny to me.
Speaker 9 (22:09):
He should be at old folks home right now. I
know how how can he choose solid food? It's amazing
and he knows all of his children's names. But yeah,
let's head over to the Western Conference Finals Nuggets Lakers.
Speaker 3 (22:22):
We saw game one.
Speaker 1 (22:23):
Oh boy, absolute master class of a performance from Jokics.
There's no way, what do you have like twelve rebounds
in the first court. He's some obscene rebound, like a
number of rebounds.
Speaker 3 (22:36):
In the first court, and I was like, oh, man,
here we go.
Speaker 1 (22:38):
It was an unbelievable night. I mean, Jamal Murray also
playing out of his head. I'm not sure what the
Lakers could have done. I honestly, you know, it got Look,
it kind of got close there at the end, but
we just didn't quite have what it took to finish
the game off. And like with Jokis playing the way
he was, there was this one shot over ad like
(22:59):
such a D three, and I was like, is he
really Oh he contests, Oh.
Speaker 3 (23:04):
And that just went in so casual. That really that
when he when he hit that, I'm like, oh, no,
we're not getting out of here with anything that's not Yeah,
this is not our night. Kitch just gets it off
in time, it's up.
Speaker 6 (23:18):
It's good.
Speaker 3 (23:19):
Of course it goes in Leo Kitch from town child.
Anthony Davis just stares at him.
Speaker 5 (23:26):
And then the Lakers came back and kept putting them. Yeah,
that was a pretty impressive get, like a pretty impressive
loss because it could have gone a lot of a
lot of different ways. There was a point where I
was like, man, just get bron and a D out
of there, Like.
Speaker 1 (23:41):
I told you in our in our group chat, I
was like, I was so disoriented from like the run
they were going on.
Speaker 3 (23:47):
I like accidentally ordered women's sandals online. Yeah, didn't have
to make this on the internet. Was all confused.
Speaker 5 (23:53):
If you like wearing women's sandals, mouths, you don't have
to make this vast.
Speaker 3 (23:58):
Elaborate scheme.
Speaker 1 (24:00):
I hold onto the words of Jizu, the genius and
liquid swords, you know what I mean, And that's a
minimum and feminine like sandals.
Speaker 2 (24:08):
What what does that mean?
Speaker 6 (24:11):
Jiz?
Speaker 5 (24:11):
I don't know who knows, but yeah, I mean when
you're having a conversation with him, do you call him
Jizza or the Jizz?
Speaker 3 (24:18):
I call him Jizz?
Speaker 2 (24:19):
Okay, cool?
Speaker 1 (24:20):
But yeah, I mean, like the Nuggets are playing so well.
They made a D's performance look absolutely pedestrian. Forty ten
three steals, two blocks.
Speaker 3 (24:30):
He was he was playing like.
Speaker 1 (24:32):
I couldn't really ask much more from him. I could
have asked for a little bit more from some other players.
But I mean that just shows you like the level
in this series. But like, hey, shout out to ruy
Haachimura came in and he did his thing.
Speaker 8 (24:43):
Man.
Speaker 3 (24:44):
He was like, when we needed a shot to far
or three or something, Rui was there for it.
Speaker 7 (24:47):
He had the main assignment on Jokic in the fourth
quarter too, Yeah, he was he was the guy guarding him,
and then it allowed Ady to be the guy who
was kind of roaming the paint.
Speaker 3 (24:55):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (24:56):
I feel like the Nuggets can counted that pretty easily though,
by pulling pulling Gordon out and then just playing five out.
But I mean, if I'm a Lakers fan, mm hmm,
I would say that this is I mean, it's not
a win because you don't have a win. It's not
a win, but you got pretty close and didn't play
the greatest game in the first half.
Speaker 1 (25:17):
Yeah, but I would sound like I would sound like
a true Lakers fan to be like, yeah, I know
we lost, but we won though, really right now, we lost,
they played fantastic.
Speaker 3 (25:26):
We played well too. They were just that much better.
Speaker 1 (25:28):
And I honestly, in the beginning I felt like we
had I think we had a hangover from beating the Warriors, Like,
I don't think we were really focused enough for what
was happening, because I don't I felt like we weren't
properly respecting the shooting of the Nuggets at first, uh,
and we got punished pretty bad. And then suddenly we're like,
oh right, we we have to engage or else. You know,
(25:51):
this thing's in a fully get away from us.
Speaker 5 (25:52):
I haven't watched enough Nuggets to be honest to know
how out of the ordinary that shooting display was.
Speaker 7 (25:59):
It wasn't out of the ordinary, so that that's a problem. Yeah,
Like to be fair, the Lakers were giving them pretty
wide open shots in the first half, like they were
helping off a lot and like sending a lot of
help at Yokic, which doesn't make sense because that's that's
what they want them to do, Like you send a
double team at Yokic.
Speaker 3 (26:18):
Oh cool, all right, you know he makes the right
pass every time?
Speaker 7 (26:21):
Yeah, yeah, So I don't know. I think I think
part of that is, like this is the Nuggets, this
is the this is the way they play every single game.
They're probably going to be just as good in Game two,
and it's up to the Lakers to hit those shots,
like Austin Reeves in the second half was awesome in
that fourth quarter in great shots. You need that type
of performance from him. You need d Lo to start
hitting his shots too, Like you just need everybody to
(26:44):
be on point when it comes to the shooting. If
they can't keep up, you know, math wise, the math battle,
they they probably end up losing the series.
Speaker 5 (26:51):
Quick maths, quick maths. The only thing that's giving me
faith is Lebron being able to figure it out.
Speaker 3 (26:58):
Like, yeah, he'll figure it out, he'll figure out.
Speaker 7 (27:01):
He does.
Speaker 5 (27:02):
He's the exception. He really does seem to figure things out.
And like, so I don't I watched that first game
and I'm like, man, if that if that's how the
Nuggets always shoot, I don't know how the Lakers win
that series. After Game two of Golden State, both I
and Zach Lowe were like, well, the Lakers can't win
this series now, right, Like they're you know, the the
(27:25):
Golden State figured out what to do, how to spread
the floor. There's no way that they're coming back from this.
And the Lakers won and six, So I don't know.
They It'll be interesting to see I watching this playoffs,
both all the Lakers series, but also watching something about
that six or Celtics series really because because it was
(27:46):
like such a it haunts a weird mental battle. Well
even like watching the Celtics, who like are so good
at their best, but like just have these weird swoons,
like gave me an appreciation for Lebron and just like
his ability to always just eventually like figure out what
like the smartest strategy and when to like peak and
(28:10):
all these weird subtle things that actually I have a.
Speaker 7 (28:15):
Little bit of a take here. I don't know if
you guys will agree with this. So I think a
lot of people bring up parody, which is totally true.
The league is more even than it has been in
a couple of years. But like the byproduct of parody
is that a lot of these teams aren't as good
as we've seen before. So a lot of these teams
are sort of made like they're not the greatest they
could potentially be. Boston isn't as good as whatever. Others
(28:38):
like the Warriors in you know, at the height of
their prime, and then the Cavaliers at their prime. So
a guy like Brown who is so used to playing
at that level of competition, facing teams like the Warriors,
facing teams that he's at to, you know, topple before,
it's easier for him to try to figure out and
adjust and then also point out a weakness because yeah,
(29:00):
it's just these teams aren't as good as they were before.
It's it's better because the product is more fun. You
don't know what's going to happen, it's more unexpected. But
parody has sort of created this this weird paradox. I
guess that it's the teams aren't as good as they
were even five years.
Speaker 1 (29:15):
Ago, six years ago, whatever it is, right, Yeah, but
if the Nuggets keep playing like that, just hold on
to your butts.
Speaker 3 (29:23):
That's all I can say.
Speaker 1 (29:24):
Uh So, yeah, good luck to those Lakers because I'm
gonna need it if the Nuggets keep playing like that.
Speaker 3 (29:30):
Uh and my god, I mean like the way Yokas
is playing, I was like.
Speaker 1 (29:34):
Is that the m v P.
Speaker 5 (29:35):
Oh yeah, yeah, he's he's better than As an Embiid fan,
I can't I can confidently tell you, and I'm sure
a lot of Sixers fans won't won't love it, but
he's way better than Embiid, Like Embeid.
Speaker 7 (29:46):
Probably should have won last year and probably should have
won this year.
Speaker 2 (29:50):
That's what a lot of people said.
Speaker 5 (29:52):
But man, he's good.
Speaker 1 (29:54):
It was like, yeah, it was basically the like the
Leonardo DiCaprio equivalent, the you know the revenue oscar that you.
Speaker 7 (30:00):
Have the bottom dash one, right, Yeah, that's not.
Speaker 3 (30:05):
His best one though. They're like, yeah, but it's been
a while. We had to we had to do a
make good. It's like, okay, sure, for sure.
Speaker 1 (30:11):
All right, let's take a break and we're gonna come
back with us for the most sought after segment in
podcasts and the rapid fire round of questions.
Speaker 2 (30:18):
All right, right after this, and we're back.
Speaker 1 (30:31):
And I know all the advertisers line up because they
want to be able to brand this segment, but we
say no, we are keeping this sacred. It is the
fourth quarter. It's time for the rapid fire round of
questions now as this segment is probably no, not probably,
it is the fastest sequence of questions in a sports
podcast on Earth at the moment. And what we're gonna do.
(30:52):
We're gonna ask you a question. Don't think too much,
just chest pass the answer right back, don't and don't
give a long answer. Because this has to move quick
as rapid. And guess what if Jack and I start
being like, yeah, what if this was the just right
adding detail about me? Yeah, me talking about my favorite
food at the formerly the Staples Center.
Speaker 3 (31:10):
You have to cut us off, man, like, man, this
is rapid. Okay, okay, that go on you and if not,
we're gonna be big, mad, furious furious. You ready, Yeah,
let's do Jack?
Speaker 2 (31:23):
You ready?
Speaker 5 (31:24):
Oh yeah? Guess what, Brian, Brian's weeping?
Speaker 3 (31:29):
Okay, thanks, Sorry, I don't mean to yell, Brian.
Speaker 1 (31:32):
I don't mean to yell, but after that loss to
the Nuggets, I'm a little right now, little.
Speaker 7 (31:37):
Off right now.
Speaker 3 (31:38):
I want to go first.
Speaker 5 (31:39):
You want to switch off first?
Speaker 3 (31:41):
Yeah? Yeah, you allowed me to go, so let me
allow you.
Speaker 5 (31:45):
Is there a single NBA player you would all right?
Speaker 3 (31:47):
You don't, you're not.
Speaker 5 (31:48):
You're just a GM. You're just thinking about I want
to maximize my wins. Is there a single NBA player
you would take right now? You are the GM of
the San Antonio Spurs. Forget about contracts. It's just somebody's like,
all right, I will give you any NBA player current
contract for Wembin Yama for the webbing Yama. Pick who
(32:10):
are you going with?
Speaker 7 (32:11):
Or are you keeping the pick? I'm keeping the pick?
Speaker 5 (32:14):
Wow, man, Even over Yannis, I didn't even do the
Yannis corlaer. Usually people are like, well, you'll take Yannas, don't.
Speaker 7 (32:22):
Na, I'm good, give me nine years of we I'm good.
Speaker 3 (32:26):
Okay, yeah, I take that. Now? What is it about
wem Be Yama?
Speaker 5 (32:33):
This is why he's the greatest follow up question? You know,
I guess he didn't have the greatest serve, but he
had the greatest return exactly, And I s every time
what is it about?
Speaker 7 (32:45):
But that's the.
Speaker 5 (32:45):
Consistency that people look for.
Speaker 3 (32:48):
And I'm asking, seriously, what is it about him?
Speaker 2 (32:51):
Is he good?
Speaker 3 (32:52):
He's good? Esctly don't watch basketball.
Speaker 5 (32:56):
We just kind of go off of vibes.
Speaker 3 (32:58):
Yeah, I guess how chat GPT right up the words
I say.
Speaker 1 (33:02):
I'm like, tell me a summation of what the Lakers
Nuggets game one they got serbed.
Speaker 3 (33:08):
Is what chat GPT came up with, which I thought
was pretty clever to be.
Speaker 5 (33:11):
Miles used that joke like three times in three different chats.
Speaker 2 (33:14):
Yes, okay, you know what.
Speaker 1 (33:16):
I like that you brought this up because you lurk
in the other one. You don't ever contribute to the
other chat.
Speaker 3 (33:21):
I will not name.
Speaker 5 (33:21):
Well, you guys are Lakers fans, and I'm just sitting
back judging your toxic Lakers energy.
Speaker 8 (33:26):
Wow.
Speaker 3 (33:27):
Wow, wow, honestly, sorry, No, I meat you to it.
Speaker 2 (33:32):
I beat you to it.
Speaker 3 (33:33):
No, that's on you, damn. I tell you we had
to speed it up.
Speaker 5 (33:36):
All right, You're sorry contributing to that. I'll start contributing
to that anyway.
Speaker 3 (33:39):
Yeah, I was sorry.
Speaker 7 (33:41):
What you like the banter? What do you want me
to do?
Speaker 3 (33:43):
I'm a performer, jack, So what I workshopped? You got
serbed like little banter.
Speaker 5 (33:52):
Here criticizing your work.
Speaker 2 (33:54):
No, I love it that.
Speaker 6 (33:55):
I just lurking.
Speaker 7 (33:56):
I know. I'm like, hey, beat this thing up.
Speaker 3 (33:59):
Okay, my bad, thank you?
Speaker 7 (34:00):
Thank god?
Speaker 2 (34:01):
Why am I on trial?
Speaker 6 (34:02):
Now?
Speaker 3 (34:03):
Here we go? Next question. You're honor.
Speaker 1 (34:06):
You can go back hoping your Dolorean. Okay, because you
can go back in time.
Speaker 5 (34:11):
Good morning and look at the Beledictorian.
Speaker 3 (34:15):
And you can go to any single playoff game in
nb A history. Which game are you choosing court side
seats to?
Speaker 7 (34:23):
Oh wow, that's tough. Give me two thousand and seven
Eastern Conference Finals, Pistons Caves, the one where bron scored
like twenty seven.
Speaker 2 (34:33):
In a row.
Speaker 3 (34:33):
Yes, Oh yeah, what a game?
Speaker 7 (34:35):
Yeah, good one, that was fire.
Speaker 5 (34:37):
That game was wild.
Speaker 8 (34:38):
Man.
Speaker 5 (34:39):
That's one of the few games from like over ten
years ago that I'll still go back and watch. It
also puts his age into perspective because the like quality
of video is so bad.
Speaker 7 (34:51):
Definition.
Speaker 3 (34:52):
Yeah, four to three aspect ratio a VHS tape.
Speaker 5 (34:56):
All right, with Air recently being released, what are you
your top three basketball movies?
Speaker 4 (35:02):
Oh?
Speaker 7 (35:02):
Wow, Above the Rim? Does Juice count? I guess yeah?
This U just count?
Speaker 3 (35:08):
I mean, that's an interesting one.
Speaker 5 (35:10):
Juice forgot that there was even a basketball like does it?
Speaker 7 (35:13):
Does it? Kind of? Okay? Whatever? I guess we got
questions about Juice. It's all right, we'll skip forward, Okay,
I'll go Above the Rim Coach Carter, and then we'll
go give me another one.
Speaker 5 (35:25):
And then does Ricochet account. You're just naming Tupac movies
and Poetic Justice.
Speaker 7 (35:33):
No, I'm not gonna. I'm not gonna do White Man
can't job.
Speaker 5 (35:36):
Because you're waiting to see how good the remake is.
Speaker 7 (35:38):
Yeah, probably, How am I gonna? How am I going
to judge, right, dude, six Man, Yes, that's the one.
Thank you. I appreciate you. Actually, that is the one
I was thinking of, So I appreciate you. Yeah, that's right.
Speaker 3 (35:51):
That's a great one. That's a great one, one of
the greats.
Speaker 5 (35:53):
So and above the rim, that's the one where the
guy pounds the backboard and flies through the backboard and
falls off the top of the building.
Speaker 7 (35:59):
Right yeah, well yes, no, that's also six Man, isn't it?
Six mans Man? Well no, six Man did like a
spoof of that, right.
Speaker 3 (36:07):
I think yeah they yeah, I think they're spoofing that part.
Speaker 7 (36:10):
Yeah, oh no, okay, I don't know. He got game.
Also is another one, thank you, Jabar, I appreciate you, bro.
Speaker 3 (36:16):
Yeah, yes, shout out to Rick Fox in that one.
Speaker 7 (36:19):
Yeah you up?
Speaker 5 (36:20):
Mouse?
Speaker 3 (36:21):
Oh I'm up? Sorry, see s man, what do we
say this thing going? I know I'm old. I know,
I'm thirty eight years old like Lebron James. But work
with me here.
Speaker 1 (36:30):
You can take any former raptor and put him on
this current group in Toronto.
Speaker 3 (36:36):
Which former great are you choosing to make a run
in today's league?
Speaker 7 (36:41):
Give me kawhi, bro?
Speaker 8 (36:42):
Why not?
Speaker 2 (36:42):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (36:43):
I was wondering if you were gonna if you're gonna
go with the honest, correct answer, or if you were
if you were gonna be like, no, you know, Davin
stardomar uh we're.
Speaker 7 (36:53):
Uh yeah, give me fourhey, Garbajosa from the two Thousan No, no,
definitely why I was thinking between him and Vince.
Speaker 5 (37:01):
But yeah, yeah, yeah, man quiet when he was healthy
for two games and these very NBA playoffs, was the
best player in the league. Still, Like a lot of
people have let the fact that he got hurt overshadow that,
but that's still the highs.
Speaker 7 (37:20):
If he had operating these man, they still might be
in the playoffs.
Speaker 6 (37:23):
Yeah right, all right.
Speaker 5 (37:24):
And finally the question that all the advertisers are lining
up to hear the answer to, is it Jack or
is it Miles? Oh?
Speaker 7 (37:35):
Like, just person like, who do I prefer? Is it?
Speaker 8 (37:39):
What is this?
Speaker 5 (37:39):
What do we do?
Speaker 2 (37:40):
Jack? Is it Miles?
Speaker 7 (37:42):
Okay? You know what I think? I think because you
are a Lakers fan, I'm gonna go with Miles. Sorry,
I apologize.
Speaker 6 (37:49):
I said I was a Lakers fan too, do fair right?
Speaker 7 (38:04):
I did twitched?
Speaker 5 (38:07):
Yeah, yeah, I'm over. I'm doing the thing that all
our you know NBA journalists guests do where they're like,
I'm actually beyond fandom. I kind of view the NBA
like Doctor Manhattan viewed humanity.
Speaker 3 (38:21):
And just like above it I see is a matrix
of pain. Yes, I scare not to engage in just
the game of basketball. Fantastic, Oh man, love never, I'll always.
I don't think I'll ever get used to hearing that
because it's always fantastic. Thank you so much.
Speaker 1 (38:38):
But yeah, we got a shout out our guests, s
bar Hani, thank you so much for joining us.
Speaker 3 (38:44):
Where can people find you? Follow you, read you all
that kind of stuff.
Speaker 7 (38:48):
Bro. First of all, I haven't laughed this much while
just being on a podcast and a little bit, so
appreciate you guys. This was fun. It was, It really was.
It was fun to do.
Speaker 3 (38:58):
You're a great ghost, great guest. I want to say,
great ghost.
Speaker 7 (39:01):
I am a great Yeah. I know my skin is
kind of paled. You don't have to do that, that's
but yeah. No, you guys can find me on Twitter
just as Barahini. Just tap in. That's that's all you
gotta do. Appreciate you guys.
Speaker 5 (39:13):
This is one of the rare podcasts with a twist
ending s was dead the whole time.
Speaker 3 (39:17):
Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 5 (39:20):
He gave you all the clues with the sixth man.
Speaker 7 (39:22):
Yeah, that's why. That's why I'm like six man, right right,
right man.
Speaker 1 (39:28):
Well, you can follow us on Twitter at mad boostis
B double O S T I E s uh.
Speaker 3 (39:34):
And we did have to ask y'all, We said.
Speaker 10 (39:36):
Hey, boost the listeners for the Conference Finals series, what
are your predictions the results are in on the East,
sixty percent of y'all believe the Celtics will triumph over
the Miami Heat.
Speaker 3 (39:48):
And in the West fifty six percent of you. Wow,
that's less confidence over there.
Speaker 1 (39:52):
On West believe the Lakers will eventually best the numb
That is.
Speaker 5 (39:56):
That is that is definitely based on you guys have
a Laker, our Lebron Lakers fandom. I mean, they're they're
pretty big underdogs too. So yeah, I'm not I'm not
saying you're wrong, because I do think the Lakers are
gonna win. But it's just that's that is the only
(40:17):
place where you were seeing the Lakers.
Speaker 1 (40:18):
Those numbers, those numbers, Yeah, I think like, yeah, barely
any of the you know, you know, mainstream analysts, only
a few picked the Lakers, so you.
Speaker 5 (40:28):
Know, we'll see yeah, Espno was like twenty ten, Like
twenty people picked the Nuggets, ten people picked the Lakers.
Speaker 1 (40:35):
Super producer Jabi makes a good point. Our listeners are
smarter than the experts.
Speaker 5 (40:40):
Oh yeah, yeah, so by by quite a bit, oh
for sure.
Speaker 3 (40:44):
Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah, but thank you all
for that one.
Speaker 1 (40:48):
We will see you next week could be an episode
of Sad Boosties. Who knows where we're at in These
are in our respective series. But until then, we will
be us, You be you, and we'll see next time.
Speaker 6 (40:59):
Bye bye, hey
Speaker 7 (41:02):
Said
