Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hello everybody, and welcome to this evening's edition of trend
Dead Redemption to online joins the Night Gang Closs. If
you're playing on PS four uh that uh whatever title
brought to you by me right now, because I'm about
top on red Dead Redemption and also I'm thrilled to
be joined by Little Yammy, Little Zammi Stamboni herself, Yammy Lofty,

(00:23):
Jamie loftus h. We're just talking. We're talking games. Because
you said the Blunt King, the Blunt Prince, the boy
Blunt Prince of East l a Isaac was also playing
the Jedi game that I put down because it was
getting too hard, and but then we started and I
should go back. Okay, yeah, he will tell you it's not.

(00:44):
Heass not just a button masher game. You gotta think
like a Jedi. It looks like he's been getting really
into it. I don't know he's I I don't know
shit about stuff like that, but he's been on the
Star Wars game. And then sometimes I could be like, hey,
let's take a break, let's take a breathe of us
do some crash racing, and then set its racing some

(01:04):
crash racing. Maybe hey, why don't you get those cute
buns in the kitchen. Make me an egg? Yeah, yeah,
before you can be a paddle one, you gotta make
me egg. Make me egg. Yeah, that's how before you
get your paddawan learner's braid, which every paddawan has that
little mini I went to Cancoon and some Yeah, you
gotta make Jamie an egg. But we're here to talk

(01:27):
about trends, not how to get your paddawan learner's braid. Uh,
And let's look at what is trending right now, aside
from these young ass kids outside my window acting like
there's not a pandemic going on. No way, really, there's
things have been. Things have been so up and down
in my neighborhood. One day, everyone's like we're having a barbecue.

(01:47):
The next day they're like, we're once again afraid for
our lives. Yeah, it's but I mean, that's just how California.
If I was twenty two, I literally thought I knew
everything at age twenty two, Like I could not be
told anything. So do what you gotta do. Kids. Anyway,
we digress. Jeff Bezos is trending because you're possible reason

(02:10):
it's basically become entirely feasible possible that he becomes the
world's first trillion their. Yeah, they said he's on track,
is on track first of all, to become the world's
first trillionaire. By there, I it's first bleak. He's made
so much money off the pandemic, which goes without saying, like,

(02:34):
but he's made an absurd Like I think that the
piece I was reading about it last night was like,
in February, Amazon stocks were trading somewhere around twelve d
Now they're at over two thousand just a couple of
months later. Because of how it's bleak, and and some
people are coming at this story being like, Wow, a

(02:54):
real American dream, and you're just like the you've missed,
You've missed the point. Where have you been about? Think
about the people who are in like the C suite
at Amazon who have left in protest because they're like,
you're actually firing activist workers in these warehouses that are
advocating for the safety of our own employees. I quit,

(03:14):
uh so Jeff Bezos keeping it trill in. Next up
is black Light. Now. I don't know if you saw
this video. It was going it was popping over the
weekend and then now I think must have it's reached
like USA today levels of viral um because there was
this special on Japanese TV on the channel NHK, which

(03:36):
is like the national Broadcasting company there. They didn't experiment
where they're basically showing how easily germs spread in a restaurant,
just in a restaurant context if someone has any kind
of illness. So it's like this video basically shows all
these people in like a set up restaurant with cameras
and stuff, and a few people like would spray like
on their hands like this sort of like white liquid

(03:58):
that would disappear but would appear under a black light,
and those people would represent anyone who had like COVID germs,
and so they sent those people around the restaurant. They're
interacting with silverware, serving trays, like you know, it's like
a buffet style thing, talking to people, socializing, and then
at the end everyone just went on about their time
like as if they didn't have to worry and didn't

(04:19):
wash their hands. They turned the black lights on and
you just see like people got people have white all
over their face on their shirts, it's all over the cups,
it's all over the things just to be like, hey,
this is just a visualization on how these things spread
on surfaces, and why this isn't a joke or a game.
Like we get that we had to show you black light,

(04:39):
but this is what it is. I respect the I
respect the fact that they made that video, but yeah,
to quote the great Valerie Cherish, I do not want
to see that. I think it's I think it's just
an important thing. I think you or I we respect

(05:00):
germs enough to say that, like, yeah, I think I
think I'll keep it tidy and I understand what's at risk.
I think for some people they just have to be
they have to see this version to be like right,
I mean you should wash your hands. I'm I'm all
for a terrifying visual example if it gets people to

(05:20):
stay at home. Fortunately, we don't need them because we
learn our lessons without. That's my that's my reward for
actually staying at home is I don't have to watch
that video. Speaking of horrible visuals, Percy Jackson is trending?
What is Percy do you? I was going to ask
you what the Percy Jackson is? Now this series totally

(05:42):
missed me. There's like it was I was the right
age for it when it came out. But there's a
few series that kind of all clumped together for me,
two of which are going to be on Dizzy plus
Percy Jackson and Artemus Fowl. I know that they're pretty
different series. I know I read a few of each book,
but they're just I don't I don't know. It's just
like the Mish to me. Yeah, for me, Midts talk

(06:05):
about mid lost my mind on drugs during those years.
So the last thing I was doing was sitting down
with a kid's fantasy book. Unless I was tripping or something.
I'm like, I see some easy man, I need something.
It was also something called Aragon. There was definitely those
books were long as ship and I could not tell
you one thing that happens. I thought it was pronounced
did you there was a movie from Aragon, but I

(06:26):
thought it was pronounced e Ragan. And because it spelled
like the dragons email dragons, I don't know the cigarettes. Yeah,
this because I know there was a movie. I know
there was a movie. That's when I first I'm like,
I know, Percy Jackson. I thought, at first a long time,
I thought it was about a fictitious soul singer in
the sixties. That's what I thought. That would be way

(06:49):
better than what it is. It's some kid with a haircut. Alright,
let me see this screenplay real quick. Who's the main
character as this kid crazy Jackson? Right, he got a haircut.
He's got But when I said kid with haircut and
then you see the picture, you're like, oh, yeah, it

(07:09):
just kind of choice. It's got. Yeah, it's because I
went did the movie come out? The movie came out
and directed by Chris Columbus. Yeah, it's the haircut is
really giving away the ear it came out. It's a
hair truly Now, like I think this is I often
just doing the show, like I find out about things

(07:31):
that I'm so have completely just not I've not interacted
because of my age. Coogan is Hades? What he was?
He was Hades, and that one Steve Coogan was Hades,
Sean Bean was Zeus. I'm learning all this to Rosario Zeus,
Rosario Dawson as Persephone. You're just like, al right, what okay?

(07:55):
Thurman as Medusa. That sounds fun. Wait, this is who
is going to be in the film. This in the
film right now? This was this was the two Chris
Columbus more fantastic, fantastic. So the children's are excited. So
I'm glad everyone is feeling great. The final trend, I
think it's just funny because it just shows how stupid
and petty the culture wars get on Twitter, uh, because

(08:17):
these three things are trending right now. There's hashtag Obama Gate,
there's hashtag Obama gate gate, and hashtag Obama Great. Obama
Great is my favorite evolutionary point in this stupid hashtat
the galaxy bread. Oh my god, it's I mean again.

(08:44):
So Obama Gate was Trump and the rights like attempts
to try and act like he had done something by
pointing out Michael Flynn's crimes as president of the United States,
and that was supposed to be his water Gate or
Obama Gate. And then there was Obama gate gate where
everyone is just talking about, like just trolling the people

(09:06):
who use the Obama Gate thing to be like no,
no, no no, what about this thing your president is doing whatever?
And then we have Obama Grade about how great he
is about Yeah, that's like the camp of people that
have like a mug being like I miss him. Yeah,
that's a very that's a very specific vibe. I miss
some Percy Jackson. I think, I think I'm gonna build

(09:28):
miss Trimmy Jackson and the Olympians The Lightning Thief. That
is also such a long title for a movie, Percy
Jackson and the Olympians The Lightning Feet five times Fast.
That's the longest movie title ever. Oh, I don't know.
I can't stop thinking of all. There were so many
mid auts fantasy series that are now like flooding my

(09:49):
brain that because Artemas Fowl, Artemus Foul might be good
in spite of Josh Gad I don't know. Yeah, the
first one I felt like, the one my first instinct
is the assassination of Jesse James by the coward Robert
Ford is probably the most otherwise or precious based on
the novel Push by Sapphire. That's well, that's the thing. Yeah,

(10:09):
how long was the name for The Guardians of Okay?
So there are plenty of films I have not heard
of from the sixties. There's a film from the sixties
called Night of the Day, of the Dawn of the Sun,
of the Bride, of the Return, of the Revenge, of
the Terror, of the Attack of the Evil Mutant, hell
bound flesh eating, subhumanoid, zombified Living Dead Part three, that

(10:32):
same construction. That's the longest title according to IMDb. The
second longest longest is Part five of that series. Um,
then the films I can start remembering. Okay, then number
five borat Cultural Learnings of America for make benefit Glorious
Nation of Kazakhstan. Um. Doctor Strange Love is listed as
just Doctor Strange Love and I am dB, but doesn't

(10:54):
have or How I Learned to Stop worrying and love
the bum. Yeah. Then Chronicles of Narnia line in which
the worldrobe. Oh, that's not that, that's not I'm looking
at that. This is just I mean, this isn't very long.
But the title that popped into my head is both
amid ats uh forgotten fantasy series, a shitty movie, and

(11:16):
a weird title. Legends Legends of the Guardians colon the
Owls of Gohl. Do you remember? Yeah? Yeah, Guardians of
Uh also two thousand ten, directed by Zack Snyder, really
released the Snyder cut of Legends of the Guardians the

(11:37):
Owls of Why don't you while you're at it Cowards? Yeah?
I think at that time I was in the midst
of my political career, using alcohol to go to sleep,
to forget that I was just like perpetuating, like the
human crushing machine that is like politics. Mes. You know,

(11:58):
you didn't miss much with whole And I think that
they I think I'm saying a hole because that's how
the owl say it. And it's really annoying how the
owl they're like, it's goho, like they hit. Yeah, it's good.
All right, I've been living here for forty years. It's
go hool. I've been saying it like this for my
whole life. Released the Snyder cut of go Hool exactly

(12:21):
all right. Well, while Jamie and I endeavor to try
and get Zack Snyder's attention to release the Snyder cut
of out whatever goo uh, we we will take our leave. Jamie,
thanks for hanging out and talking some trends. Uh. We'll
talk to you y'all. See you guys in Themorrow. Yeah.

(12:41):
Please please be safe, Please be safe. Please teach each
other with kindness up, you know, as much as you can.
It's very hard out here, but a little bit of
kindness goes a very long way in any direction, even
if it's to yourself. So please just today's challenge be
kind all right to actual

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
