Speaker 2 (00:22):
Yeah, but it's Friday. I'm excited right day.
Speaker 3 (00:26):
Yeah, you went to go see comedy the Machine last
out to Conway.
Speaker 2 (00:30):
The Machine I pulled up. Yeah it was not it
was Dope.

about that later when we discuss new music. Mayor be outside.

Speaker 5 (00:42):
You get invited to places I can't even get in,
like where you like the Met gall.
Speaker 2 (00:47):
I did not, but you're on the list.
Speaker 4 (00:50):
I am not on the list. Let's work toward Dad
next year. Man, you gotta stay.
Speaker 2 (00:55):
I don't do trouble though.
Speaker 6 (00:57):
You know where would you have more into the Met
Galloon some I'm crazy trying to think something crazy.

Speaker 2 (01:08):
I mean that's true.
Speaker 5 (01:09):
I mean we show up when it's all black party
we show up when white there you go.
Speaker 4 (01:13):
Yeah, well listen, And we were just talking behind the scenes.
Everybody's discussing this whole bus driver with the data bus
driver thing.
Speaker 3 (01:20):
Me and Mato had some fun conversations about that.
Speaker 2 (01:22):
Yeah, you told me you would definitely date a bush.
Speaker 4 (01:25):
On right, I said, I'm more about like what people's
aspirations are. I like people that are very like if
you're a bus driver, and then you're also like doing
other things, like this is what I want to be
because I always for me, I don't sit still, so
I always have like other things that I want to do. Right,
So if your goal is to be like, okay, I'm
a bus driver now, but the next level is this
(01:46):
and then that, or I'm trying to unlock this, or
I also do this, even nonprofit stuff. But one of
my friends said to me one day, she was like, Angela,
I wish that I made money so I could date
who I want to date.
Speaker 2 (01:55):
Right.
Speaker 5 (01:56):
The thing The thing for me is that, I mean
everybody that's that's make money.
Speaker 3 (02:00):
So I date who I'm wanted.
Speaker 2 (02:02):
We want to get up. Everybody that's up right now
at some point was down before.
Speaker 5 (02:06):
Yes, So it's a journey, and it depends, and people
got to write the date who they want to date.
Speaker 3 (02:13):
Would you date a bus driver?
Speaker 2 (02:16):
I might.
Speaker 3 (02:18):
See he's a bird? What you swen date one?
Speaker 2 (02:23):
It's the same thing.
Speaker 3 (02:25):
Oh okay, so yes, it is your answer.
Speaker 2 (02:26):
It's the same thing. It depends. But you haven't seen
a pretty bus river? Yes, nice one?
Speaker 3 (02:31):
Yeah, absolutely, hanging out.
Speaker 2 (02:33):
Might start hanging out at the.
Speaker 4 (02:34):
Bus for transit. So I know, you know, so my
whole entire since I.
Speaker 2 (02:39):
Was my uncle.
Speaker 3 (02:40):
Yeah, so she's you know, it's.
Speaker 2 (02:43):
My uncle Joseph bus. Yeah, I'm dating bus drivers, right, lady.
Speaker 4 (02:48):
It's a very vague question to ask too, because it's
an individual person.
Speaker 3 (02:51):
It's not a person is not their job, So it depends.
Speaker 2 (02:54):
On you can't you can't define a person by what
they do for a living.
Speaker 4 (02:58):
All right, Well it's longer conversation, but let's shine a light.
Eight hundred two nine fifty one fifty is a number
if you want to shine a light on a bus
driver or whoever you want to shine a light on.

Speaker 4 (03:18):
But she also was blacklisted from the industry after Doctor
dre put.
Speaker 3 (03:23):
Hands on her.
Speaker 2 (03:24):
So she was she was.
Speaker 3 (03:25):
Yeah, she was definitely black ball This way up with
Angela Yee.
Speaker 7 (03:29):
We gonna light up, turn your lights on, y'all, spreading
love to those who are doing greatness.
Speaker 2 (03:37):
Shine the light on them, shine a light.
Speaker 7 (03:40):
On It's time to shine a light on them.
Speaker 4 (03:44):
Yes, it is way up. Put Angela Yee, I'm Angela
Yee and Mana Yeah.
Speaker 2 (03:47):
Yeah, New Mayne it's here.
Speaker 3 (03:49):
Yeah, you ready to argue behind the scenes.
Speaker 4 (03:50):
Yeah, man, I like it though, crazy, but you know how,
we start the show with some positivity, shining a light
on people doing positive things. I want to shine a
light on my girl A b At today.
Speaker 2 (04:01):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (04:02):
Lea worked an empire and she's always sending me like
really uplifting messages and things like that. She just sent
me a message over the weekend. Congrats on closing on
your building. So happy for you. I know you've been
working on it for a while. You inspire me so much.
I'm not just saying that because you're my friend and
I love you. You really do inspire me to get
my hustle on and diversify my investments and to be
(04:22):
an overall boss.
Speaker 2 (04:24):
B Nice. I never hear you shine a light on the.
Speaker 3 (04:28):

Speaker 4 (04:33):
I didn't get his name, but he was a sanitation
worker yesterday that actually shouted me out, and I was
shouting out him and all the sanitation workers.
Speaker 3 (04:40):
Okay, nice man, are you trying to call me sexist?
Speaker 2 (04:44):
A little bit?
Speaker 3 (04:46):
Hell I ever shown?
Speaker 1 (04:49):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (04:49):
Yeah, but it's like, well, y'all need.
Speaker 6 (04:51):
To step it up there, nine women? Sorry, and you
are data.
Speaker 3 (04:57):
A bus driver, a sanitation worker? Did I ever? I
don't think I have.
Speaker 4 (05:03):
They know they make good money, right, sanitation workers making
good money?
Speaker 2 (05:07):
So you don't have a problem with that?
Speaker 3 (05:08):
No, I don't think. Listen, I don't think I really do.
Speaker 4 (05:11):
I could never say who I would or wouln't date,
because that's how you end up marrying. When you say
I wouldn't date this person, you end up making that person.
All right, Well, eight hundred nine fifty one fifty it
is a number less shine a light on how Jose?
Speaker 3 (05:22):
How are you feeling?
Speaker 8 (05:23):

Speaker 9 (05:24):
How are you doing that?
Speaker 8 (05:25):
Yeah, I'm good.
Speaker 3 (05:26):
Could you want to shine a light on?
Speaker 10 (05:28):

Speaker 8 (05:28):
I wanted to shine the light on myself today because
it's my birthday today. I just turned twenty one.
Speaker 3 (05:34):
Oooh that's a big age. Happy birthday.
Speaker 8 (05:36):

Speaker 9 (05:37):

Speaker 11 (05:38):

Speaker 9 (05:50):

Speaker 3 (05:52):
Well, happy birthday and be safe. Okay, I know your birthday.
Don't get too crazy.
Speaker 8 (05:56):
It's great talking you guys.
Speaker 1 (05:57):
Thank you so much.
Speaker 3 (05:59):
Shay, who do you want to shine a light on?
Speaker 12 (06:01):
Oh?
Speaker 9 (06:02):
Good morning.
Speaker 8 (06:02):
I would like to find the light on.
Speaker 9 (06:04):
Principal Jerry Senner's at Doughty Comprehensive High School. All been
in Georgia.
Speaker 3 (06:09):
Okay, tell us why for one?
Speaker 9 (06:12):
Missus sendas as a pastor.
Speaker 13 (06:13):
He's never made it about himself.
Speaker 11 (06:15):
He gets close with the keys, bringing the farm back
and learning, and he goes outside of those school walls.
Speaker 10 (06:21):
And learn who he's educating. And we need that and
he is awesome.
Speaker 9 (06:25):
And I just wanted to shine the light on him
cold Doherty.
Speaker 4 (06:28):
All right, well, thank you. We appreciate you, Shay, and
we appreciate them too.
Speaker 9 (06:32):
Thank you.
Speaker 4 (06:33):
Shout out to Debora Roberts, by the way, she has
a book out right now about teachers that had a
big impact in her life, and it's like a book
of essays of everybody discussing that.
Speaker 3 (06:41):
We're definitely going to have her up here and.
Speaker 4 (06:43):
That would shine a light that is brought to you
by Born in Roma, by Valentino, available at Macy's. And
speaking of teachers, when we come back, we have yet
and we'll talk about an HBCU scholarship that Mary J.
Blige is launching its way up with Angelo Ye across
the US.
Speaker 7 (06:57):
They says, the rooms from industry shade to all of gods.
Angela's feeling that.
Speaker 4 (07:06):
Yes, it is way up. But Angela yee, I'm Angela yee.
It's a Friday at meadow?
Speaker 3 (07:10):
Is he shining? He got a light shining lights on people?
We just shining lights behind the scenes.
Speaker 2 (07:16):
Oh I got a light shine on me.
Speaker 3 (07:18):
Okay, we gonna hear about it, but let's shine a
light on Mary J.
Speaker 2 (07:21):
Blige.
Speaker 4 (07:22):
She has established an HBCU scholarship that's gonna help celebrate
and advocate for black women as her Strength of a
Woman Festival makes its return. I'm actually gonna be at
the Strength of a Woman Festival in Atlanta. I'm excited
for that. And when you're speaking to her, we're doing
lip service. Yep, we're doing lip service out there.
Speaker 2 (07:40):
Pod Are you on the panel?
Speaker 3 (07:41):
So yeah, just lip service and you're getting stop.
Speaker 4 (07:44):
I'm not getting honored. He thinks I just get honored
on you.
Speaker 3 (07:47):
No, I don't now. The PEPSI and Mary J.
Speaker 4 (07:50):
Blige Strength of a Woman's scholarship is part of their
two hundred thousand dollars donation, which also funds local charity.
So we know scholarships mean everything when it comes to
go into college, and so that's really helpful that PEPSI
is pledging that two hundred thousand dollars in donations and scholarships.
Speaker 3 (08:06):
We love that. Okay, all right, thank you, thank you now.
Speaker 4 (08:10):
Drew Barrymore stepping down as MTV's Movie and TV Awards
host days before, and that is because she's supporting the
writer's strike, all right.
Speaker 3 (08:18):
So yesterday Variety.
Speaker 4 (08:20):
Reported that she is no longer going to be hosting
because she's in solidarity with members of the Writers Guild
of American America union members who just started a strike
earlier this week. On Tuesday, the show will continue without
a host, and she's already agreed to return to host
in twenty twenty four. Right, so she released a statement,
I have listened to the writers, and in order to
truly respect them, I will pivot from hosting the MTV
(08:43):
Movie and TV Awards Live and solidarity with the strike.
Everything we celebrate in honor about movies and television is
born out of writers creation, and until the solution is reached,
I am choosing to wait, but I'll be watching from home,
and I hope you will join me. Somebody I saw
somebody wrote on social media, are we supposed to not
be watching shows and things like that during this time?
(09:03):
But they said that's not the solution. I'm not sure.
I'd just be trying to listen to what the writers
have to say the so and clearly there's no writers
on this show, so there's nothing to worry about.
Speaker 2 (09:13):
I'm part of the writing team.
Speaker 3 (09:15):
I saw you on strike. Yeah, okay, today.
Speaker 4 (09:19):
All right, now, let's talk about Sherry Shepherd and I
love this story. So basically, Sunny houstin from the View
revealed that Sherry Shepherd helped her fight for fair pay
when she joined The View, and this is something that
people need to do more often.
Speaker 3 (09:32):
Here's what she said.
Speaker 14 (09:33):
When I signed my deal sheet, you gave me a
call and you were like I heard you coming on
the show, and I was like, yeah, I'm joining the show.
She was like, did they give you car stipend? I
was like, no, did they give you this? I was
like no. I was like, let me get my deal
sheet out, and you basically went over your salary and
you also gave me Jenny McCarthy's salary.
Speaker 3 (09:53):
Yes, I did write a salary.
Speaker 14 (09:56):
You gave me everyone's salary. And I went back to
my agent. I was like, you didn't not get me
enough money.
Speaker 15 (10:01):
Rosie O'donnald gave me everybody's salary and hers, and I
feel you got.
Speaker 3 (10:05):
To pay it forward. That's amazing. See now that's how
things are supposed to worry.
Speaker 2 (10:09):
That's how that's how you hold somebody down.
Speaker 4 (10:11):
Sometimes people be really secretive, right, and people also lie
about what they make. I've noticed bigger Yes, they'd be like, yeah,
I got paid X Y and Z and you're like, m, yeah,
they gave me twenty five million dollars and you're like,
did that because I didn't get that? And then you
find out they lied.
Speaker 2 (10:28):
Like, man, all I got was twenty five hundred.
Speaker 4 (10:32):
But it is important and the way that Cherry Shepherd did
that and what Rosie o'donald did for her, that's important,
right because you want to make sure that people are
getting paid fairly, and people, I think you know, are
so secretive about money and they don't want to share
what they're making, but that can really help benefit everyone, right.
You still how they stuck together when they did Friends
and on the TV shows like that, so everybody was
(10:52):
able to make what they were supposed to.
Speaker 2 (10:54):
Say that, I think that was really dope, all right.
Speaker 4 (10:57):
Well, Cherry Shepherd has also Wendy Williams producers, and that's
because she wants fresh energy, so she did inherit The
locited she wanted fresh energy for her new season. And
I don't think it should have been a surprise for
them either. They said it was not surprised. He stayed
on to help get through the hump of launching a
new show. One of the executive producers because they wanted
(11:18):
to make sure she was good.
Speaker 3 (11:19):
And then I guess now that they see the.
Speaker 6 (11:21):
Show has rights.
Speaker 2 (11:24):
And now it was time to bring your own people.
Speaker 4 (11:26):
Yep, that's how it gets done. All right, Well that
is your yee t. And when we come back, we
have about last night you were out and about last night, Mayo.
And I'm gonna tell you what I did last night too.
When I woke up, I it's way up at Angela.
Speaker 3 (11:40):
Ye, yeah last night.
Speaker 7 (11:42):
So about last night last night last night Esa went down.
Speaker 3 (11:48):
Yes, it is way up at Angela ye, Angela yee.
Speaker 4 (11:51):
And Mano is in the bill, Mayno, and we are
talking about last night, okay, And I know you were
out and about last night.
Speaker 3 (12:00):
He was like, man, no, where are you going?
Speaker 10 (12:01):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (12:01):
I thought she was gonna come with me.
Speaker 3 (12:03):
I know. I actually fell asleep and then I woke
up at like two in the morning.
Speaker 2 (12:06):
Like calling and texting.
Speaker 4 (12:08):
He did, man, because I was like, I was on
the couch right and I was sitting there and trying
not to make sure I didn't mess up my last years.
I had my last yes on I was taking my
classes online, my real estate classes. So I was taking
my classes online and then I fell asleep and then
I woke up and I was like, oh, I'm still
on the couch.
Speaker 5 (12:26):
It happens, It happens. Shout out the Conway m h
the machine. He had dropped his album today okay, and
he had a listening party.
Speaker 3 (12:35):
Won't he do it at.
Speaker 2 (12:36):
The Soho House at the Low House.
Speaker 3 (12:39):
Okay all right, which is part of the Soho House.
Speaker 2 (12:41):
Yeah, yeah it was. It was real nice, it was dope.
A lot of people came out.
Speaker 4 (12:44):
I like that, won't he do it as a title
for an album? Because I say that all the time.
Speaker 2 (12:48):
Won't do it?
Speaker 3 (12:49):
Won't he do it?
Speaker 2 (12:49):
Yeah? It is good.
Speaker 3 (12:51):
Yeah, he's supposed to say all the time.
Speaker 2 (12:53):
All the time. Yeah, won't he do it all the time?
Speaker 6 (12:55):
No?
Speaker 3 (12:55):
I say God is good and he used to say
all the time.
Speaker 2 (12:58):
That's what's supposed to happen.
Speaker 3 (12:58):
After that, our all in response, So, how was the album?
Speaker 2 (13:03):
Nice?
Speaker 1 (13:03):
I mean?
Speaker 2 (13:04):
I love Conway as artist, though I think he's dope.
Speaker 5 (13:06):
I like all resulted as a whole scene thirty ex
specially there see the guys.
Speaker 4 (13:13):
Okay, well, shout out to my girl Lee. I think
she was there also. I see Fab is on the album.
Speaker 2 (13:18):
Your fab was there and Juicy.
Speaker 3 (13:19):
J's on the album and all of that.
Speaker 4 (13:22):
Well, let me tell you what I did when I
woke up atwo in the morning while you were out
running these streets. I've been watching Do you watch Power Power?
Speaker 2 (13:30):
But I gotta catch back up?
Speaker 10 (13:32):
Man?
Speaker 2 (13:32):
I fell off.
Speaker 3 (13:33):
Yeah, so you know it drops like at midnight. So
I woke up.
Speaker 4 (13:36):
I was like, oh, I could watch Power now because
every single week I'm you know, looking forward.
Speaker 2 (13:39):
To going back up to date.
Speaker 4 (13:41):
I'm up to date right now. I see Effie was trending,
as she's always trending. But you got to catch up
on the show. I don't want to tell you what
happen because I know a lot of people didn't watch it.
Speaker 2 (13:49):
I fell off last season.
Speaker 3 (13:51):
Though, Why why is that?
Speaker 4 (13:54):
He just yeah, sometimes you can't catch up either, like
once you stop watching the show.
Speaker 2 (13:58):
Right once I missed like three or four episodes.
Speaker 4 (14:01):
Is like, man, Now, the other thing that I watched
since I was up so early is I watched the
show called this movie on Prime.
Speaker 3 (14:08):
It's called Hunted.
Speaker 2 (14:10):
Nah.
Speaker 3 (14:10):
I don't know that all right, So just to.
Speaker 4 (14:12):
Give you a little bit of a because I like
to tell people like things that I watched that's actually
kind of why I originally thought of this segment, just
because I know people want to know, Like people are
always like what's good to watch?
Speaker 14 (14:22):
Right?
Speaker 4 (14:22):
All right, so this was actually kind of a good movie.
So this crew of people went to go break into
someone's house and it turns into this whole thing where
they start getting hunted. These people had like a whole
lot of property and it turns into a game where
they're at.
Speaker 5 (14:40):
Talking about if they made that movie like three four times. Oh,
like that's the same plot on like five different movies.
Speaker 4 (14:49):
Okay, Well, anyway, it was very entertaining to watch, so
I just want to say, I'll put that out there.
I don't want obviously, if you're gonna watch it, I
don't want to give away too much. And then I
watched Platform again. Did you watch that?
Speaker 1 (14:58):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (14:58):
I saw that. I saw that. That's one when it
was in that jail, right yeah. And then every level?
Speaker 4 (15:03):
Yeah, every level? So do you know what that movie
was about for real? In real life?
Speaker 6 (15:06):
No?
Speaker 3 (15:07):
Capitalism?
Speaker 2 (15:08):
Okay, so it was kind of like a metaphor.
Speaker 4 (15:10):
Yeah, so the people at the top, because the way
it starts is there's food at the top and then
whatever is left over, it goes to the level one,
then level two, then level three, and as you get
lower and lower, there's less and less food.
Speaker 3 (15:21):
So that's capitalism.
Speaker 4 (15:22):
The people on the top don't care about the people
underneath them indeed, So that's kind of in general, that's.
Speaker 2 (15:28):
That's kind of old. I saw that what about four
years ago.
Speaker 4 (15:30):
That came out during the pandemic twenty nineteen. That was
one of the first movies I watched when the pandemic movies. Yeah,
all right, well that is about last night. And when
we come back, calm down, tell us to.
Speaker 6 (15:41):
See please, please calm down, mains.
Speaker 2 (15:45):
Secrets, deepest darkest secrets.
Speaker 4 (15:47):
Please eight hundred two ninety two fifty one fifty. You
get to stay anonymous. And if Mano starts to getting to judgy,
we're gonna check him.
Speaker 2 (15:55):
I'm judging.
Speaker 4 (15:56):
Eight hundred two nine two fifty one fifty is a number.
It is a way of putting in. Angela ye, tell
us a secret. Next on a Friday, make it spicy.
Speaker 3 (16:03):
This is a judgment free zone.
Speaker 2 (16:05):
Tell us a.
Speaker 3 (16:06):
Secret, baby, it's a Friday. It's way.
Speaker 4 (16:10):
But Angela, I'm Angela ye, and Mano is here. Man
I gotta can we restrain him or something, because he
gets very passionate during these tell us a secrets.
Speaker 5 (16:18):
I just want I'm just always looking for understanding. Okay,
all right, you you want.
Speaker 2 (16:23):
To sit over there and be like, oh, we don't
want to judge.
Speaker 3 (16:26):
That's the point of it, though. We want people to
feel like they could tell us anything.
Speaker 2 (16:30):
But you're telling us something and you open it up
for my opinion, right.
Speaker 4 (16:34):
No, that's the point. They feel comfortable calling in because
they know we're not going to judge. And sometimes there's
things we did. We know it's wrong. We don't need
you to tell us it was wrong, but we want.
Speaker 5 (16:43):
To just No, I'm just having a conversation with him.
I'm not actually telling him is wrong. I'm giving them
my opinion.
Speaker 3 (16:48):
But you discussed sometimes and your voice and on your
face it's okay, tells it all.
Speaker 2 (16:53):
It's okay.
Speaker 4 (16:53):
It's a judgment free zone, guys, no matter what Mano says.
And you are anonymous, so at least we don't know
who you are. I know who you are eight until
two ninet two fifty one fifty what's up a ninumus color?
Speaker 10 (17:04):
Hey, what's up?
Speaker 3 (17:05):
It's me and Meno here and we're ready for you
to tell us a secret.
Speaker 10 (17:09):
All right, don't judge me, okay.
Speaker 4 (17:11):
Okay, well you hear that, mana, okay, go ahead.
Speaker 10 (17:16):
I feel terrible. But I'm sixteen years old. I just
got my driver's license. So I'm at this young lady's house.
You know, we're kicking he or whatever. So I'm leaving.
So I'm backing out the driveway. I hear it, thought,
so I'm all nervous. I get out, check what's up.
It's a little girl, probably about six or seven years old.
She's on the ground, and I go check and make
(17:38):
sure she's okay. She wabbles as she gets up. I
asked her if she's okay. She says yeah, she starts
walking in the house. Man, I skirt off. Man, I
ain't know what to do, you know, So I man,
I just leave a scene. I feel terrible. I thought
I was gonna take it to my grave. But she
seemed like she was all right. But that that's my secret.
Speaker 3 (17:56):
Oh how long ago? Is this?
Speaker 10 (17:59):
Twenty five years ago?
Speaker 9 (18:00):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (18:00):
Okay? It was twenty five?
Speaker 4 (18:01):
And did you ever check up to make sure she's
like still alive?
Speaker 10 (18:05):
I never went around back over there, and.
Speaker 3 (18:08):
Know the mom didn't try to like contact you or nothing.
Speaker 10 (18:11):
No, I mean, I mean I never heard from old
girl again because I never went back. You know, it
was just a little little get together whatever. But I
was so nervous about hitting a little girl. I mean
she had to be about six seven years old.
Speaker 5 (18:23):
So that been on your conscious. I've been on your conscious.
Speaker 1 (18:27):
Oh yeah.
Speaker 10 (18:28):
I mean I never knew what happened, you know, but
I was super nervous though, but I never went back.
Speaker 3 (18:34):
I'm gonna say she's alive though, Yeah, she's alive.
Speaker 2 (18:37):
Seen her walking out she was.
Speaker 10 (18:38):
I mean, yeah, she walked in the house. She kind
of stumbled in the house, but damn, I didn't know
what to do.
Speaker 3 (18:43):
Wow. Okay, well, thank you for sharing with us.
Speaker 10 (18:47):
Oh yeah, oh yeah, keep doing your thing.
Speaker 3 (18:48):
Okay, thank you. Hello, An on him as color?
Speaker 16 (18:52):
What's up? Yeah, it was popping?
Speaker 3 (18:53):
What's that? What's popping? You want to share a secret
with me and mano?
Speaker 11 (18:56):
Yeah you already know. Definitely, man was popping home and
you're already yo. My cousin, Me and my cousin, you
know what I'm saying. Like, we used to go out,
so I used to bag chicks. So every time I
get to the crib. My shorty be spashing like, yo,
you was with you know what I'm saying.
Speaker 16 (19:10):
You was with her? He was with her, And I'm
like to myself like I'm like I never put two
or two together, but that she ended up telling me,
like how you know what I'm saying, boy had told us.
So what I did was every since then, like every
shorty he he dealt with, I smashed bro like every
single one, like.
Speaker 2 (19:27):
And you did that, but like he did you wrong?
Speaker 16 (19:29):
Right facts, you already know me, know what I'm saying,
Like you know what I'm saying. He wanted to get
the grand body even doing that, so you know what
I'm saying it just like take the tech. But he
don't even know to this day, like be shorty right now,
she shut me up and all that to this day.
Speaker 10 (19:40):
Every day like.
Speaker 4 (19:42):
In order to get revenge heahing all his chicks.
Speaker 2 (19:45):
I never did a revenge thrashing before.
Speaker 3 (19:49):
So you're still friends with this guy.
Speaker 16 (19:50):
Though, yeah, I mean we still we still we still
kick it. I mean even right now to this day,
like I still be around Shorty right.
Speaker 2 (19:56):
Now, and you're knocking this shorty off right now.
Speaker 16 (19:59):
No, No, I have didn't knock the old. Since I
knocked the off, I'm not.
Speaker 11 (20:02):
I haven't knocked the old.
Speaker 2 (20:03):
Sit Brooklyn from Brooklyn?
Speaker 3 (20:06):
Yeah, you from Brooklyn.
Speaker 10 (20:07):
Oh that's a fact.
Speaker 16 (20:09):
May not you already knows.
Speaker 3 (20:11):
I heard in your voice it sounds like, yeah, he say.
Speaker 2 (20:14):
Boy.
Speaker 3 (20:16):
All I do want to say is this though, you
need better friends?
Speaker 16 (20:19):
No, that's respect.
Speaker 9 (20:20):
I mean it's all good.
Speaker 1 (20:21):
You know me.
Speaker 16 (20:22):
I know I know how to choose them.
Speaker 3 (20:23):
Now.
Speaker 16 (20:23):
I don't keep my you know, I keep saying, you
know what, I fixed my day once.
Speaker 5 (20:28):
But it's safe to say that if they ever get
out of line, you're gonna knock their joints off.
Speaker 10 (20:32):
I mean, more or less they get out a line
of awful mis right.
Speaker 4 (20:38):
Okay, all right, thank you for calling anonymous Brooklyn caller.
Speaker 11 (20:43):
Yeah, you already know YO made them safety out there?
Speaker 10 (20:46):
My god?
Speaker 3 (20:47):
What's that anonymous color?
Speaker 17 (20:49):
All right?
Speaker 3 (20:50):
Hey, you want to tell us a secret?
Speaker 1 (20:52):
Oh yeah, I have a secret for you.
Speaker 3 (20:54):
Okay, we're listening to me and made hair.
Speaker 1 (20:57):
Okay. Years ago, when my husband and I were dating,
he's gone to visit his mom and when he came back,
he had his laundry and he said, oh shoot, as
he pulled out a pair of red panties and said,
my sister in law must have left.
Speaker 13 (21:12):
He's in the.
Speaker 1 (21:12):
Dryer, and him being a long haul truck driver, I
let him take his nap. Then I got in his
bag and I rubbed some cap saison in the scheme
of all of us underwear. Cap Sayisin, what is that?
It's like an icy hot cream, but more like peppery.
Speaker 3 (21:31):
Okay ouch?
Speaker 1 (21:35):
Oh yeah, things going alongside. He goes on to work
and caused me about the third day out and said,
we got the top and I'm like, okay, hey, what's
going on? Honey? At this point he's crying. He said,
I don't know, but he's on fire. I said, well,
I think he needs to see a doctor. And I
(21:56):
don't know whatever happened with him seeing the doctor. But
every time we went to the grocery store would see
the checkout public he wroung the other way.
Speaker 3 (22:04):
Oh, so you know who I regret.
Speaker 1 (22:07):
Is after the divorce, so I couldn't get back in
there and do it again. So he thought he had
some kind of reoccurrence.
Speaker 10 (22:13):
To see wow.
Speaker 1 (22:14):
So and they never did figure that out.
Speaker 3 (22:16):
I said, he never.
Speaker 5 (22:17):
Found out her all started with the laundry you know
how many times I got caught with other.
Speaker 4 (22:21):
Garments and that's so sloppy. Girls did it on purpose, but.
Speaker 6 (22:28):
I thought, yeah, he's gonna show it to me.
Speaker 3 (22:33):
Well, thank you for sharing.
Speaker 1 (22:34):
Oh hey, look at these panties I found.
Speaker 3 (22:38):
Thank you so much.
Speaker 4 (22:40):
I know a girl who broke up with her boyfriend
and the way she did it was she actually planted
some panties in the bed that weren't hers and then
acted like who was at ease?
Speaker 3 (22:48):
And that's how she broke up with him.
Speaker 2 (22:49):
Oh that was she was wanted to break up with them.
Speaker 3 (22:53):
Wanted she didn't.
Speaker 4 (22:55):
She used it as a reason that was foul. All right,
Well that was tell us a secret.
Speaker 2 (22:59):
How you feel like, I'm feeling absolutely wonderful?
Speaker 3 (23:02):
Okay, nothing spicy or burning in your drawers?
Speaker 2 (23:05):
Okay, why would it be, I don't know.
Speaker 3 (23:09):
Tell us a secret.
Speaker 4 (23:10):
And if you guys couldn't get through, eight hundred two
niney two fifty one fifty is the number. No one
can absolutely judge you if you leave a message.
Speaker 3 (23:16):
Okay.
Speaker 4 (23:17):
And when we come back, we have yet and let's
talk about Essence Festival will tell you who just got
added also Live Nation, we were discussing this. How can
we get back to twenty five dollar tickets? Well, they're
doing that, will tell you about it. It's a way
up at the Angela.
Speaker 7 (23:29):
Yee oh, she's about to blow the lid ab off
this pot.
Speaker 17 (23:32):
Let's get it.
Speaker 7 (23:32):
Oh ye angels feeling that yet.
Speaker 3 (23:34):
Come and get the tea. Stay with us, mano, stay
with us? Is way out?
Speaker 2 (23:39):
Are you crazy?
Speaker 3 (23:40):
It's single Domino, single Domio.
Speaker 4 (23:44):
And yes it is also shot a clock up here,
shot a clock and it's time for yet and also
happy birthday to my girl Natina. Natina have birthday's on syncle.
To my eye, I was like, what are we doing today?
Speaker 2 (23:57):
Because you got to come up here and like, you know, she's.
Speaker 4 (24:00):
Like I told her, I said, come on, come do
some shots. She said, I don't do shot you psycho.
But we call her in a second. But happy birthday
Natina and happy single Domino. Yes, all right, yeah tell
me essence festival. There have been some new additions to
the lineup, all right. And this year they're also celebrating
fifty years of hip hop. What a great situation that's
(24:22):
going to be. So you know, Megan the Stallion's already
on there. Miss Lauren Hill Missy Elliott, Jagged Edge, Ari
Lennox Thames and Jill Scott are also going to be
joining them, and there's going to be the West Coast
All Stars, DJ Quick, Iceed t Yo Yo, Lady of Raised,
JJ fad E, Forty Ice Cube. And for the Women
in Hip Hop, Angie Martinez is hosting and performing in
(24:43):
real life fifty Years of Women in Hip Hop with
Remy Mamia, Ex Trina and Salt and Peppa.
Speaker 2 (24:47):
That's dope.
Speaker 4 (24:50):
She does have some hit songs, to be clear, Angie
does have some His son a Lady s Ny what
it must be Indy on the mic, but she hates
when people bring up the fact that she was an artist.
Speaker 2 (25:02):
But she what it's said, perform pay though.
Speaker 4 (25:04):
Well she's hosting these performances, all right, So it would
be amazing though because I don't know when's the last
time Angie performed at As a matter of fact, we
need a call that's called Carolina Essence and let her
notes long time that we need Angie to actually do
her verse, okay, and then she couple, she had a.
Speaker 3 (25:23):
Couple of bangers. I'm not gonna lie, but.
Speaker 4 (25:24):
I'm excited for that, all right, and live Nation has
announced the return of twenty five dollars all in tickets
for twenty twenty three.
Speaker 3 (25:31):
We discussed this the other day.
Speaker 4 (25:33):
You know how there's all these fees and stuff like
that when you buy tickets on Ticketmaster. Well, Live Nation
has announced the return of Concert Week and it's gonna
be a deal that will cover more than thirty eight
shows across North America this year. The week long annual
program will have limited time, low money tickets for shows
by more than three hundred acts. That includes Janet Jackson,
(25:54):
Fallout Boy, Don Tolliver, Maroon, fash and Aya, Twain, Snoop Dog,
a whole lot of different acts that are participating in
this ll Cool, j Wu, Tang Clan, Nas, Motley Crew,
all of them.
Speaker 3 (26:07):
So you guys can check that out.
Speaker 2 (26:08):
So the tickets is but everything else is going to
cost crazy, okay.
Speaker 4 (26:13):
Refreshment, well yeah, you can't bring your own dollars. Eat
before you go, that's a solution always. Okay, That's what
I do. I eat before I go, before I go
to the movies, I eat thirty five dollars, you know,
before I go to it. Right now, I'm on a budget,
So before I go to dinners for my friends. I
eat at home and I meet them for a drink.
Speaker 2 (26:32):
You look like you bring your food to the movies.
I do, for real, I feel like you do.
Speaker 3 (26:37):
I definitely will, all right ed.
Speaker 4 (26:39):
Sharon has won his lawsuit a legend copyright infringement of
Marvin Gaye Let's Get It On. Before he had said
that if he lost, he was gonna give up music, period.
Speaker 3 (26:49):
But he did win.
Speaker 4 (26:50):
So here's what he had to say when he was
asked by Fox about what happened.
Speaker 18 (26:54):
I'm obviously very happy with the outcome of the case,
and it looks like I'm not having to retire from
my day job after all. But at the same time,
I'm unbelievably frustrated that basicalist claims like this are allowed
to go to court at all. We've spent the last
eight years talking about two songs with dramatically different lyrics, melodies,
and four chords, which are also different and used by
songwriters every day all over the world. These chords are
(27:16):
common building blocks which we used to create music long
before Let's Get It On was written, and we'll be
used to make music long after we are all gone.
Speaker 3 (27:25):
All right, Well, there you go, so he did win.
He was ready to quit.
Speaker 2 (27:30):
And then did you see the like when they blended
it together?
Speaker 3 (27:33):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (27:34):
What is he similar? I know they're very similar, very similar.
I don't know, it's close.
Speaker 4 (27:39):
Wow, man, I'm always judging something. Asia was just up
here to and he was with Elvis Derham.
Speaker 3 (27:47):
All right.
Speaker 4 (27:48):
Now, fifty cent has announced a Get Rich or Die
Trying twentieth Anniversary World Tour. I can't believe it's been
twenty years. Sixty four daties doing? I know you're about
to kick up our for that. Yeah, so congratulations to him.
The verified ticket pre sale will start on Wednesday, May tenth,
followed by a limited general sale on Friday May twelfth,
So if you guys want to go see that tour,
(28:10):
you can do that.
Speaker 3 (28:11):
He posted, You've waited long enough. The final Lap.
Speaker 4 (28:13):
Tour celebrating Get Rich or Died Trying with special guests
and longtime friend Busta Rhymes and Jeremiah is going to
be on that. Yeah, it's going to be on all
of course, all dates is Buster Rhymes and Jeremiah is
on all North American dates, So that's going to be
coming your way.
Speaker 3 (28:28):
I feel like we should go to that.
Speaker 2 (28:30):
I'm going.
Speaker 4 (28:31):
We should go to that. Can I get invited? Come
on right ccle to men nos up. It's a Friday.
It's way up at Angela yea. And when we come back,
we have under the radar. These are the stories that
are flying under the radar. They're not necessarily front page news,
front headline news stories, but they're under the radar and
you should know about Them's way up at Angela.
Speaker 7 (28:50):
Ye the news news. This in the news that relates
to you. These stories are flying under the radar.
Speaker 4 (28:58):
Yes, it is way up Angela heat and it's time
for under the Radar with.
Speaker 3 (29:02):
Mano on a single.
Speaker 4 (29:06):
And these are stories that are not necessarily headline news,
but I want to make sure that people know about them. Now,
one thing I want to talk about is this medication
that people have been taking, right, and that is to
lose weight. It's a medication that they really use to
treat diabetes, and people have been taken this, but there's
a lot of danger in doing this, and so I
just want to make sure that we put that out
(29:26):
there because there's different medications and you got to make
sure you go to the doctor, but there's side effects
and so with virtually all medications and therapies.
Speaker 3 (29:34):
There are side effects. So some of them.
Speaker 4 (29:36):
Are gastintestinal discomforts like nauseo, diarrhea, vomiting, and constipation, also
pancreatitis and gall bladder problems.
Speaker 3 (29:43):
And some patients may experience.
Speaker 4 (29:45):
Low blood sugars while taking them, and some animal studies
have linked them to thyroid tumors and so this has
not been seen in humans yet. But again, if you're
going to take any of these medications to control your weight,
then you got to be really careful. Two different ones,
and I don't want to wrongly say who people are
(30:06):
saying take somem so I don't want to do that.
But one of them that's really popular is called WeGo
v Yes, So that's one of the weight loss drugs
that are really popular. So putting that out there, all right.
COVID has dropped to the fourth leading cause of death
in the US last year. So now even though previously
it was the number one reason, now it is the
(30:28):
fourth leading cause of death. So they're saying that it's
no longer something.
Speaker 2 (30:33):
Just right, So it's not no longer something we got
to worry about.
Speaker 4 (30:37):
Yeah, I mean, look, still always be cautious, Still wash
your hands. So all you nasties, it wasn't washing your
hands before COVID.
Speaker 2 (30:43):
What you said. It was a new COVID with the pinkot.
Speaker 4 (30:46):
They did say, there's a new one with different symptoms.
It's a new symptom conjunctivitis, right slashat. Not that many
people are getting it like they used to, so it's
as you can see, people are still out and about
like it's nothing.
Speaker 3 (30:56):
All right.
Speaker 4 (30:57):
Marissa Meyer is the former Yahoo CEO, and she's admitting
to some of the mistakes that she made while she
was there. She said she hired the wrong COO during
her time at the company, and she also said that
she could have acquired Netflix or Hulu. Instead she acquired Tumblr,
and she feels like that was a big regret. So
that was one of the things that she said she
(31:17):
would have done differently during her time at Yahoo.
Speaker 3 (31:20):
All right.
Speaker 4 (31:20):
She said the acquisition of Tumblr was a misfire because
it came at the cost of getting Netflix or Hulu.
At that time, Netflix was worth four billion dollars and
Hulu was valued at one point three billion dollars. She
said the Tumblr acquisition was not, in fact her biggest regret.
Speaker 3 (31:36):
That was Verizon's acquisition of you Who.
Speaker 4 (31:38):
She said that she didn't feel that helped the company
as much as was hoped. All right, so it's you know,
in retrospect, you never know what's going to happen with
some of the decisions that she made.
Speaker 2 (31:47):
It's always easy to look back on it.
Speaker 3 (31:49):
Mm hmm.
Speaker 2 (31:50):
You know, you see things, Clara.
Speaker 3 (31:51):
All right.
Speaker 4 (31:52):
And black women had become major money makers in twenty
twenty three, and they did a new research from the
Pew Research Center one and for black wives out earned
their husbands. Did you know that we were talking about
this earlier.
Speaker 2 (32:06):
I remember I was telling you about it. We didn't
exact numbers, though, hm.
Speaker 4 (32:10):
And this study is a drastic change in gender norms.
Fifty years after men were considered the sole breadwinners in
eighty five percent of opposite sex marriages, today black women
are making intentional choices when it comes to getting to
the bag. Remember I was saying a lot of times
women were making decisions back in the day out of survival,
and now we make money.
Speaker 3 (32:30):
A lot of times you're making money.
Speaker 5 (32:31):
And you said you're not dating a bunch, that's what
you said.
Speaker 3 (32:34):
Did I say that? Man said No, I did not
I did not.
Speaker 2 (32:37):
I recall you saying that me.
Speaker 3 (32:38):
No, you lying, I said I would.
Speaker 2 (32:40):
You said you would what.
Speaker 4 (32:41):
I said I would? I said I never know who
I would date. Really, yeah, definitely you said you wouldn't.
Speaker 2 (32:46):
No, I said I would.
Speaker 3 (32:48):
We can roll the tape backs and all right. Now,
some of the reasons for that is higher education.
Speaker 4 (32:54):
Also, black women are more likely than any other ethnic
group to be in marriages, which can find antali benefit
black families, all right. And however, unfortunately black wives and
batters or advanced degree still earn approximately you know, fifty
five hundred and ninety nine dollars, So that's the approximate,
(33:15):
which is equivalent to what white non Hispanic men make
without a degree. So we have to have a degree.
But with that degree we make what men white non
Hispanic men make who don't even have one. So there's
still some obstacles, all right, and that is you're under
the radar. We do have the way up mix when
we come back at the top of the hour, Plus
(33:35):
Dee Barnes is going to be joining us. She has
a new show on Roland Martin's Blackstar Network. But you
know her from Pumping Up from back a day, and
she went through a lot of different things.
Speaker 3 (33:44):
So we're going to discuss that with her. It's way
ye putting into lege just like the taut like they
Angela Jean, like they angela jee Man.
Speaker 7 (33:52):
She's spilling it all.
Speaker 2 (33:54):
This is yeaty way.
Speaker 3 (33:58):
Yes, it is way U put in.
Speaker 4 (34:00):
I'm angela yee and mayno is he Yes, it is
a Sinkle de Manos.
Speaker 2 (34:05):
Single, Domino, shots on me, drinks on me and.
Speaker 4 (34:08):
We are having a time. Yeah up here today. Yeah,
I'll put you onto this patrona.
Speaker 2 (34:13):
L alto you like, yes you did? I do like it.
Speaker 4 (34:15):
No Mano kept saying, Oh, I'm an empty stomach, but
we just had some taquitos, so you should be fine.
I'm good, okay, perfect, All right now let's do some yet.
The Prince Estate will be opening up the Unreleased Music
Ball for twenty twenty three celebration at Paisley Park. I
am the biggest Prince fan, biggest yes, like honestly, Prince
is my favorite artist, biggest of all time.
Speaker 2 (34:35):
Love Prince.
Speaker 3 (34:35):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (34:36):
So and even I know this is unpopular because I
love Michael Jackson too, but Prince is like another level
for me.
Speaker 3 (34:42):
Purple Rain is one of my favorite movies of all.
Speaker 2 (34:45):
That's one of my favorite print songs. Purple No. You
know what? Doves cry? Okay, doves cry? Why you just.
Speaker 3 (34:54):
Leave no in the world?
Speaker 2 (34:57):
This world so cold, world is so oh.
Speaker 4 (35:02):
Yes, you know when I loved the Beautiful Ones. That's
my song from Purple Rain. You don't know the beautiful Ones?
He was I can't. I'm not gonna make me sing,
but remember Apollonia ran out of the club crying because
he was singing that for her, and then he started
humping the ground and stuff.
Speaker 3 (35:19):
What is what happened?
Speaker 2 (35:20):
For some reason, I don't remember that part. I don't.
I just don't remember the part of him from the
ground I just got. You just don't remember that.
Speaker 3 (35:26):
Let's have a Purple Rain party because we all watched
Purple Ring.
Speaker 4 (35:29):
All right, Well, they're gonna crack open this vault and
they're having an annual event celebration schedule for June ninth
through the eleventh, and it will be at his famous
recording studio, museum and Content venue in Minnesota.
Speaker 3 (35:42):
So I feel like I should make it to that.
Speaker 2 (35:44):
You should if you're the biggest I am.
Speaker 3 (35:47):
I love Prince.
Speaker 4 (35:49):
As a matter of fact, since I was young. My
favorite color is purple because of Prince.
Speaker 2 (35:52):
You should pull up somewhere that you're not getting on it.
You should try that something.
Speaker 4 (35:56):
And my brother, let me tell you this. So we
had the movie Purple Rain on VHS tape and he
always would paused apart where Apollonia was getting in the
waters of Lake Minnetonka, and I'd be like, yo, stop
pausing it. It's gonna get stuck here, because he would
want to see Apollonia jumping in the weather.
Speaker 3 (36:13):
All right.
Speaker 4 (36:14):
Well, Michelle Obama has launched a company that's going to
promote healthy food for kids. So I think that's amazing
because you know, that's part of my mission too. But
she announced that she has co founded this company to
make and sell healthier food and drinks. She said, food
that will be less detrimental to their long term health
because of their lower sugar and higher nutrient content. I
think about the things that I ate when I was
a kid in school.
Speaker 2 (36:34):
Of out the things you're still eating.
Speaker 3 (36:36):
No, no, remember you was eating all them Glizzies.
Speaker 5 (36:38):
Never you still you you sneak those Glasies in the
movie theater too.
Speaker 3 (36:46):
You never had No.
Speaker 2 (36:48):
We wasn't calling them glazy. They were still just franks
or hot dogs.
Speaker 5 (36:51):
Then by the time, by the time they became busies,
I've been out of that business.
Speaker 2 (36:57):
You still sneak them glosies into that theater.
Speaker 4 (37:00):
But anyway, yeah, so I think it's really important to
make sure you do that. We don't want these kids
today eating random.
Speaker 3 (37:09):
Yeah school just wildly all right? And Doja Cat may
not be invited back to the met gala. That's because
she was.
Speaker 4 (37:15):
Vaping at the event this year. There's a video of
her in the background of an interview and it went
viral on social media and she was vaping and I
guess you're.
Speaker 3 (37:26):
Not allowed to do that.
Speaker 2 (37:28):
No vaping metal, Yeah.
Speaker 4 (37:29):
But I mean if you could bring in like Chick
fil A and all of that, you should be allowed
to vape. It's not that serious, right, No sneak a
glizzion all right? Mana, all right, Well, anyway, we've been
doing this single domaino, so we're a little out of it.
But we did take this before you start, so at
least it's a recovery thing so that you can drink
(37:52):
and not.
Speaker 3 (37:53):
Okay, well, on.
Speaker 4 (37:55):
That note, it's shot a cut maino.
Speaker 3 (37:58):
Let's go.
Speaker 4 (37:59):
It's also that. So we have a new music Friday.
I know you were out last night at Conway the
Machine album listening party, album release party. So we'll talk
about that, but we'll tell you what else is out
today with some good releases.

way up at Angela.
Speaker 2 (38:13):

Speaker 4 (41:24):
You know, he's been talking about putting out this Timmy
turn into even though he recently uh you know, he's
seeking some help after it happened on the flight.
Speaker 5 (41:31):
And and and that's that's what he did. And it's
all good because he went and you know, got some help.
Speaker 2 (41:37):
Right.
Speaker 3 (41:37):
Yeah, he is trying to get but he turned.
Speaker 5 (41:41):
He put accountability right, but he went into like a
program or summer.
Speaker 3 (41:45):
Yes he did.
Speaker 4 (41:46):
Ron Suno has THEYR out today Sleazy Go World and
Polo g Off the Court and Shack King talk sh.
Speaker 3 (41:56):
What'd you think?
Speaker 2 (41:58):
I'm I mad at that shock? Come on now? Can
do what he want to do, all right?
Speaker 4 (42:02):
He shared with a Ghanian artist American artist Black Way
to do that. So shout out to Shaq as he
re enters the music industry with that missing. He first
sees us back in February, so now it's out. And
he also has an animated video celebrating Lebron's new record
as an all time leading scorer.
Speaker 3 (42:21):
And he decided he wanted to put out some music.
Speaker 4 (42:24):
Why not let's get hip, all right, Well, that is
your new music for today, and we have d Barnes
joining us when we come back, we'll be talking about
her new show that's on the Blackstar Network, that is
Roland Martin's network, and she's just excited. She has a
lot of things going on in her personal life that
she wants to do, but this is something that is
actually going to help her achieve all of those things
(42:44):
that she's trying to get done with her documentary, with
her book, all of that. It's way I put Angela
yee d Barnes when we come.
Speaker 7 (42:50):
Back, you ride the way up with Angela yee.
Speaker 4 (42:57):
Yes, it is a way I put Angela Ye. I'm
ane on Single Domino and Maino's.
Speaker 3 (43:02):
Here, Yes, Maino New Maino.
Speaker 4 (43:04):
And we've been doing these shots single Domaino shots.
Speaker 3 (43:08):
It's a Patrono out there.
Speaker 2 (43:09):
It's like a new Reposados.
Speaker 5 (43:12):
It's different patrol because we don't know patron for having Reposodo.
Speaker 3 (43:16):
We don't that that and I have IDEO, Yeah I didn't.
Speaker 2 (43:19):
I never know.
Speaker 3 (43:21):
Now I'm looking at all these different stories.
Speaker 4 (43:23):
As I'm sitting here sipping on my.
Speaker 2 (43:26):
My You'm sipping on something that should have been shot.
WHOA that should have been shot? That's not a a.
Speaker 3 (43:35):
We're not shooting anyone, meno.
Speaker 2 (43:40):
It was a shot. You're still sipping.
Speaker 3 (43:42):
What are you doing tonight for Single Domino?
Speaker 2 (43:45):
I'm working, I'm outside.
Speaker 3 (43:47):
What does that mean?
Speaker 2 (43:48):
You know?
Speaker 17 (43:49):
Me.
Speaker 2 (43:49):
I'm outside right now, so let.
Speaker 4 (43:51):
Me tell you what he had to say earlier, right
when we started doing these shots on an empty store.
Speaker 2 (43:55):
Don't make nothing up?
Speaker 4 (43:56):
No, Maino said, I can't get started because once I
get started, I don't know how to stop, right. And
I think he's correct. Blogs yeah, and I said what
I say, do it? This is good for content for yes,
so you guys know, But seriously, I know it is
Single de Mayo. A lot of people are out there celebrating.
Do you even know what Sinkle de Maayo is?
Speaker 2 (44:19):
Educate me?
Speaker 3 (44:20):
Does anybody in here know where Sinkle de Maayo is? Okay?
Can we do a deep dive? Please?
Speaker 2 (44:27):
Did you know?
Speaker 1 (44:27):
Now?
Speaker 3 (44:27):
I'm looking it up deep dive.
Speaker 4 (44:30):
It's a yearly celebration held on May fifth, as we know,
and that is for Mexico's victory over the Second French
Empire at the Battle of Puebla in eighteen sixty two,
led by Henna roden Ignacio Zaragosa.
Speaker 2 (44:45):
Shot to that.
Speaker 3 (44:47):
So I'll drink to that.
Speaker 2 (44:48):
Right.
Speaker 4 (44:48):
Let's go, right, Medico, let's go. We have d Barnes
when we come back. That is ed Roland Martin is
here with us too. By the way, he's on this
interview because D Barnes has just put out her first
episode of The Frequency that's on his black Star network.
Jasmine Brand is here as well, so get ready for that.
Speaker 3 (45:07):
We love D Barnes.
Speaker 4 (45:09):
You know her from Pump It Up back in the day,
but she now has a brand new show and I'm
excited to hear it and see it.
Speaker 3 (45:14):
It's Way Up at Angela.
Speaker 2 (45:15):
Ye, going Way Up with Angela yee.
Speaker 4 (45:19):
Asmen from the Jasmine Brand is here and Roland Martin
is here. What's you have the pleasure of welcoming for
the first time D Barnes.
Speaker 3 (45:27):
Hey, D Barnes, what's up?
Speaker 17 (45:29):
What's up you guys? Thank you so much for having me.
Speaker 19 (45:31):
This is awesome in exclusive and exclusive.
Speaker 3 (45:35):
Yes, Roland actually broke the news on Way Up at Angela.
Speaker 10 (45:38):
Ye.
Speaker 3 (45:38):
Let's break it again. If people didn't hear it.
Speaker 2 (45:39):
That's right.
Speaker 19 (45:40):
So D We've launched a new show with her called
The Frequency with D Barnes. Right now it's a weekly,
but eventually it will be a daily show. So I
was last year when I hit thee out of the
blue on Twitter and I was like, Yop, what are
you doing? And then she told me, and I was like,
I said, hey, I got an idea. Uh, I think
(46:02):
you'd be grateful it. And then, for some reason, so
she took me about two three weeks to hit me back.
Speaker 3 (46:07):
I'm like, what the hell you get a marinate on it?
Speaker 2 (46:11):
And so then then she hits me back and she
said she wasn't gonna do it. I was like, is
she her mom?
Speaker 5 (46:16):
Uh?
Speaker 19 (46:17):
And so precisely well one of these but one of
the things I told thee I said, I am very
good at not fixing people, but unblocking them.
Speaker 3 (46:27):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (46:28):
So we then begin had this.
Speaker 19 (46:29):
Conversation because she was like, I want to focus on
getting this documentary done and.
Speaker 2 (46:33):
Get my book done. I said, look, those are long term.
Speaker 3 (46:35):
Project, right, you can still do that.
Speaker 19 (46:37):
I said, you're somebody trying to swim to that island
and I'm in a boat. You can get to the
island a lot faster deep.
Speaker 2 (46:47):
Were trying to swim.
Speaker 3 (46:48):
And she was like, I was like, genius, but where.
Speaker 1 (46:52):
Do you think.
Speaker 3 (46:53):
Let's talk about some d.
Speaker 4 (46:54):
Barnes history because you actually have experienced hosting, right, and
so I want to make sure that people are aware
of that.
Speaker 3 (47:01):
Talk about some of the people you've interviewed.
Speaker 15 (47:03):
Oh man, you know my background is in hip hopas
you know, grew up on that so Queen Latifa, Mony
Love Saw and Pepper them. You know, Llo, Cool J,
Run DMC. I had to honor you know, when jam
Master J was here rest in peace.
Speaker 17 (47:22):
I was just thinking about the.
Speaker 15 (47:24):
BAC Boys today because you know, it's the anniversary of
Adams passing.
Speaker 3 (47:29):
I mean, you know, yeah, it was pump It Up.
Speaker 17 (47:34):
Yes, the show was called Pump It Up. It was
on Fox. And this is like pre in Living Color.
Speaker 12 (47:38):
This is like pre mart.
Speaker 4 (47:40):
This is back in the day now, all right, So
what happens to all that footage now? Because I said
they did the video music box documentary, So with all
the footage because it was on Fox, we pump it Up?
Speaker 3 (47:50):
Is there anything that you can do with that?
Speaker 15 (47:52):
Man, I've been documenting in Angela and I'm telling you
of being getting so much rejection. You know, I think it's,
you know, just being a woman in this industry, like
they're just not really taking me seriously. And the fact
that I was conscious enough to document the history because
it was important to me, it was not important Fox
and I documented my three years there and I have a.
Speaker 17 (48:13):
Lot of footage that's just.
Speaker 12 (48:14):
You know, waiting waiting to be you know, presented.
Speaker 17 (48:17):
I pitched it to a lot of people.
Speaker 15 (48:19):
We're not gonna mention it on names, and you know
it's been you know, back to back. Now this sounds
like a guard mine to me, right, I mean it's
history too, you know what I mean, it's a lot
of history. A lot of these artists aren't here anymore.
I get emotional and I think about, like.
Speaker 4 (48:33):
Heavy D how did I tell that this even make
it to facts, because, like you said, they didn't really
see the value while you were documenting all of this
and know what this would turn into.
Speaker 3 (48:41):
But how did it even land there at that time?
Speaker 15 (48:43):
Well, you know how most networks do, they take black
content to build up their network, and so.
Speaker 17 (48:49):
That's exactly what did. They saw the value in the advertisement.
Speaker 15 (48:53):
Dollars, but they didn't see any value in the people
in the show, you know. So they saw that that
advertisement and they got a lot out of money that
came in from pumping up and then they spread it
out to other shows. So you know, it wound up
there just because they wanted to get into the you know,
the rap game basically, and they wanted that advertisement, and
(49:13):
money did roll in from that, but they didn't put
it on the show. As a matter of fact, the
more money that came in, the less and less our
budget got.
Speaker 3 (49:20):
Dee Burns is here with that's her new show. The
frequency is. I'm Roland Martin's Blackstar Network.
Speaker 2 (49:25):
I want to go back to the No.
Speaker 19 (49:26):
Here's what is important because when Dean I were talking
and she was like all these people they said they
would help with this documentary with his book, and what
I said to her, I said, everything that you want
to do can happen, but you need a platform to
launch it from right. And that's why I see, you
really should think about doing this show. Now you're back
(49:48):
in the game. I said, this should be d Barnes
two point zero. I said, your life, your story should
not stop with what happened with doctor Dray. This is
an opportunity to now now say no, let me let
me now go next level. And I said, you do
this all the other things. I said, we don't have
(50:08):
to ask others for this because we can do them.
Speaker 4 (50:12):
No, I feel you and were you familiar right with
Roland before he approached you?
Speaker 3 (50:16):
Did you know him? Did y'all know each other.
Speaker 15 (50:19):
Okay, no, we didn't know each other, but I did
know him and I was very familiar with him and
the network as a matter of fact.
Speaker 12 (50:24):
And it's funny with everything he said.
Speaker 15 (50:27):
I had a conversation with Fab five Freddy and he
reiterated everything.
Speaker 19 (50:32):
He was like, see because I had a conversation and
I was like fail, yo, I was like.
Speaker 12 (50:39):
My brother fab five Freddy really stepped straight.
Speaker 3 (50:41):
He was like, yo'll this, well, what was holding you back?
Speaker 4 (50:46):
Because I can imagine I said this to Roland behind
the scenes. There has to be like being jaded from
this industry, you know, just from everything that's happened and
promises that were made and then people are not keeping
up there end of the bargain, Who.
Speaker 17 (51:01):
Ye a lottery numbers girl? Because you hit it. That
was exactly it.
Speaker 15 (51:07):
I had wanted it for so long and it didn't
happen that I had moved on, even though I think
I was really suppressing it. And when I met Doctor
and Jackie Martin, she really set me straight and helped
me get balanced.
Speaker 12 (51:22):
And you know, her show was called a Balance Life
and Man.
Speaker 15 (51:25):
She mentored me so well that it really it helped
finished unblocking me.
Speaker 4 (51:31):
Basically, what's the biggest thing that you've learned in terms
of working with doctor Jackie.
Speaker 15 (51:36):
The biggest thing she helped me I'm black, was you
know that imposter syndrome. We worked through that, and she
did it indirectly. It's hard to explain she did it indirectly,
but she gave me some tips and some points and
some things to.
Speaker 12 (51:51):
To really marinate on.
Speaker 15 (51:53):
So we would talk and then I would think about
everything she said and come back like you were right this,
that and the other thing. So I can't really get
into all the because that was very, very emotional for me.
Speaker 17 (52:05):
She helped me get through it.
Speaker 19 (52:06):
And the other thing is we're working with Joe Cheatwood.
Is that Initially D was like so locked in the
hip hop and I got it.
Speaker 2 (52:13):
I totally got it. I said, but D, this is
not a hip hop show.
Speaker 19 (52:16):
I need you to fan your your perspective horizon because
your story. You can talk about economics and dealing with
hard stuff and homelessness, and I said, you could talk
about being I said, it's so many things you can
talk about. I said, So don't be narrow. I said,
I need you to think expansive. I said, because you're
gonna be five days a week. I said, so, don't
(52:36):
be narrow.
Speaker 2 (52:37):
In your thinking.
Speaker 3 (52:38):
So what is this show if you had to describe it?
Speaker 15 (52:41):
My show is basically a talk show that's like at
the intersection of empowerment and acknowledgement. I really want to
use this platform. That's Roland has given me the opportunity
to have to uplift women.
Speaker 17 (52:54):
That was something that.
Speaker 15 (52:54):
You know, I couldn't do back in the days consistently,
and now I can, and I really want to focus
on issues that affect women, in particular Black women.
Speaker 3 (53:03):
We are talking to de Barnes.
Speaker 4 (53:04):
She has a new show on Roland Martin's network, Black
Star Network, and when we come back, we'll have some
more with her. You know her from Pump It Up
and I'm so glad to see her handling her business.
Speaker 3 (53:13):
And Roland Martin is here too.
Speaker 4 (53:15):
It's way up at Angela Yee.
Speaker 16 (53:19):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (53:20):
Bringing the way up with Angela Yee is on.
Speaker 3 (53:24):
It's way up at Angela Yee. I'm Angela Yee.
Speaker 4 (53:27):
Jasmine brand is here, Roland Martin is here, and we're
talking to d Barnes, she has a new show on
his network, Black Star, and Jasmine, you have.
Speaker 3 (53:34):
A question, how did you all come up with the
name of the show?
Speaker 4 (53:37):
I know that's always a good story when you think about,
like how did we come up with frequency?
Speaker 2 (53:41):
They did? I had listen.
Speaker 12 (53:44):
Frequency is about raising a vibration.
Speaker 15 (53:47):
You got a lot of you remember that whole thing
that was going around on Twitter, that low vibrational right right?
Speaker 3 (53:53):
Yeah, right, I gotta get her on you.
Speaker 12 (53:57):
You know, we're inundated every day with activity.
Speaker 15 (53:59):
How what was going on in New York on the
subway with that man being choked out?
Speaker 17 (54:04):
You know what I mean.
Speaker 15 (54:06):
It's just like every day we hear some negative things
about the world, and so I want to do something
where it's like positive or we're uplifting and you know,
you learn.
Speaker 17 (54:16):
I want to elevate and educate.
Speaker 15 (54:17):
At the same time, when you get a second chance
to do something.
Speaker 17 (54:21):
It's like you got to do it right.
Speaker 15 (54:23):
And you know, I'm so, I mean, the blessing to
be coming back on black owned media.
Speaker 12 (54:29):
Who you can't tell me, there's no God?
Speaker 3 (54:31):
You got it? Good brother? Well, how did you know
that d would be perfect for this?
Speaker 19 (54:35):
I was following her looking at her tweets, and I said,
I see this show and I'm like we're gonna do it,
and so it's instinct. I mean, listen, they're probably thirty
or forty people who you see right now on cable
news who I'll put on TV first, who.
Speaker 2 (54:51):
I mentored and they've gone do great things.
Speaker 19 (54:54):
Tiffany Cross's first TV when she she was behind the
scenes on air was on My show Angela Rye Shermichael Singleton, Paris.
The Nard I mean, Giona Republicans Democrat doesn't matter. And
so I'm always Tiffany Lofton. I'm always looking for interesting people.
So what was interesting to me was the story. And
(55:15):
I said, if de can yes deal with the trauma,
do with the PTSD tap into all of her I said,
it could blow people away and really help people who listen,
and that's the most important thing for me. And I
looked at all these people the nose and I saw
what she was like, and then we talked. She was like,
(55:37):
you know, Wendy promised this, nothing happened, this person, this person,
this person, And I said, Yo, this would be dope
to provide the opportunity to see her succeed.
Speaker 4 (55:48):
Dee Burnes is here with us her new show, The
Frequency Is I'm Roland Martin's Blackstar Network. Now, your first
guest on Frequency is Alicia Garza. Right, So talk about
what went into you saying, Okay, this is who I
want as my first premier debut episode.
Speaker 15 (56:03):
You know, while I was going through the whole imposter syndrome,
those two books that I've read that really like pulled
me over the finish line, and one of them was
rid Or Died, The Feminist Manifesto for the well Being
of Black Women by Shanita Hubbard, and the other one
was The Purpose of Power.
Speaker 17 (56:21):
Oh my god, I'm forgetting of.
Speaker 4 (56:23):
Power Power Purpose, Yes.
Speaker 12 (56:26):
Sorry, Alicia's book. And after reading those books, I was like,
I gotta I gotta talk to Alicia, you.
Speaker 15 (56:32):
Know what I mean, especially with things were going on
with the negative image of black Lives matter, so I
really wanted to see where where her thoughts were on that.
And I also did a panel with her about the
Me Too movement in particular with black women in Hollywood,
and so all those things combined, I said, Alicia would
(56:53):
be like the perfect guest, you know.
Speaker 17 (56:55):
Because you know my story, you know what I've been.
Speaker 15 (56:57):

hundred two ninety two fifty one fifty. We also have
the award winning advice giver here with us. Mano is
in the building right for any advice that you might need.
It's way up with Angela yeekabody.

Its way up? But Angela yee, I'm Angela yee, and
Mana is here. Yeah, it's single de mano.
Speaker 4 (59:35):
We have been celebrating and we cannot wait to hear
from you whatever questions you have. There's no this thing
is a stupid question, right, yes, Mano, start it is.
Speaker 2 (59:43):
I'm being honest. Let's be read here to be real
with the people's it is.
Speaker 3 (59:48):
Well.
Speaker 4 (59:48):
We cannot wait to hear your questions, whether they are
smart or stupid. Eight hundred two nine two fifty one fifty. Hey, Jason,
what's your question?
Speaker 9 (59:55):
Okay? So I'm calling because I was in a relationship
ship three years ago that ended badly right around COVID
and I lost my job and I was obviously very angry,
and that all the time, and so that kind of
(01:00:15):
caused us to break up. And fast forward to now. Well,
in between, we both had relationships and we actually both
broke up with our significant others in September, and we
started talking again in February. And you know, I now
(01:00:36):
have a job, so I'm in a much better place.
I was wondering what I can do this time around
to make things better and really maintain this relationship. Would
love any sort of device.
Speaker 3 (01:00:52):
It's a brand new start for you guys. Are you
guys going to move back in together.
Speaker 13 (01:00:57):
Well, we've only been seeing each other February February, and
we've been, you know, doing it where we see each other,
you know, once maybe twice a week.
Speaker 5 (01:01:09):
Okay, you want you want to be with her, all right?
You want to be Yeah, So listen, bro, just love
Hall as hard as you can. Hold on to that woman,
Get up flowers, do fun things with bring other women
into the relationship.
Speaker 4 (01:01:22):
Everything is not a Threecome mental stop, Let me ask
you this. Okay, hold on, you just said bring other
women and that's a three.
Speaker 2 (01:01:29):
Let me have fun?
Speaker 4 (01:01:31):
Okay, how about this? Have you worked on your anger issues?
Because life does happen, and it could be a situation
where again, it might be some unfortunate things, but I
think the main thing for her because you said that
was the reason one of the reasons why you guys
broke up. And I feel like it's important for you
to be a better you so you can be a
better individual in a relationship.
Speaker 9 (01:01:52):
Absolutely, And I think obviously it stems from COVID and
not being little kind of job because of it much, right,
you know.
Speaker 4 (01:02:04):
Yeah, And I think it's also apparent for you to
work on yourself though, like how do you handle those
anger issues? Because she wants I'm sure she wants to
make sure that there's no repeat situations from what's happened
in the past, right, because what if there's another pandemic,
you know, and then get, yeah, get angry again.
Speaker 9 (01:02:24):
Well, I think I learned the first time around really
to just, I don't know, kind of keep it cool,
realize eventually something we're gonna work out.
Speaker 2 (01:02:33):
Man, hold on to that woman tight. That's your that's
your that's your woman, man.
Speaker 4 (01:02:37):
And it's the little things that matter the most, remember that, right,
Just the little things that you show somebody that you
love them. It doesn't have to be these huge grand
gestures all the time, but it can be showing how
thoughtful you are, showing that you can plan things, showing
that you're listening. What are the things that you love,
that you care about that I can do for you?
What are some things that I can do to make
your life better? You know, I think all of those
(01:03:00):
things matter a lot. And clearly she really cares about
you too, if she's giving you another chance.
Speaker 9 (01:03:05):
Yeah, I definitely see that I have even taking it,
and I really think that's work.
Speaker 2 (01:03:11):
Go faster, though, speed it up.
Speaker 3 (01:03:14):
It's okay if she's If.
Speaker 4 (01:03:16):
She needs to take us though, that's Finebrary, cherish those
moments that y'all have together and do the really small
things that matter.
Speaker 9 (01:03:25):
The most, absolutely awesome.
Speaker 4 (01:03:27):
And then plan a trip. You know, fourth of July
is coming up. Uh, there's different. What else to come?
A Memorial Day?
Speaker 1 (01:03:35):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (01:03:35):
Plan plan something in advance. Women love when guys plan.
Speaker 13 (01:03:40):
I didn't know that.
Speaker 5 (01:03:42):
If you speed it up, you're good, Well man, no,
go away, you speed it up, all right?
Speaker 3 (01:03:50):
Well, thank you for calling.
Speaker 4 (01:03:51):
That is asky, but I'm so happy that you guys
managed to work it out. It feels like you want
to make sure you don't mess up this time around
and communicate. Communication is important, and make sure you keep
on asking her. Do you need anything from me? Is
there anything that I should be doing that I'm not?
That's the most important thing.
Speaker 9 (01:04:05):
Yeah, thank you so much.
Speaker 4 (01:04:07):

And my son's mother would ask me, seriously, did she
(01:06:37):
ever hit on you? And she hasn't hit on you?
And I would always say no, no, because I was
trying to protect their friendship, that's all, you know what
I mean. But now we separated and she slidding in
the DM, I don't know if I could go and
pursue
Speaker 7 (01:06:49):
