KFI HEM six forty Saturdays. KFI AM six forty live
everywhere on the iHeartRadio app and acting Leona Valley, Anaheim
and Palm Desert. This is so Cal Saturday and I'm
your host Twalas Sharp. Welcoming you to another fantastic edition
of your look at Southern California Today. We have, believe
(00:47):
it or not, our final entry for our Small Business
Saturday spotlight. Just just close to a year ago. Well
look last Small Busines Saturday. When we did all of
our shout outs, Kayla and I came up with the
idea to bring every single submission on the air. Just
(01:09):
reach out to everyone and say, hey, beyond just the
shout out, let's bring these individuals on the air to
really tell us about their business and what they're offering
southern California, and every Saturday since we have bringing on
business after business to introduce them to you so that
you can know what is available here for you and
also just to let them shine some amazing, amazing stories.
(01:32):
And Kayla has worked hard tooth and nail to reach
out to individuals, and believe it or not, there are
a lot of people who didn't even respond. Heck, I
think not last Saturday, maybe Saturday before that, someone didn't
even show up. What is going on? Well, I say
all that to say today we are featuring our final
Small Business Saturday submission with Let's Create Something Incorporated, a
(01:59):
business that I think is essential the backbone for what
we do in Hollywood. At Let's Create Something Incorporated, they
supply technical, ifent equipment and service to producers and event
professionals worldwide. They're located right here in Van Eys, and
we are going to speaking with the owner and COO,
Randy Clark later in the program, and I'm just I'm
(02:21):
super excited about that because I love talking to people
who work behind the scenes in Hollywood. But before we
get all to that, goodness, of course, I need to
let you know the stay out of the water Again.
Why why is it that every Saturday we have a
report about staying out of the water because the water
(02:42):
here in southern California is full of poop? It really
really is, and I mean that literally. Why it turns
out and I knew this was the case. I knew
there had to be something behind all of this poopage
ending up in our waters here in Southern California. Come
(03:02):
to find out, we are responsible. It's not like there
are just homeless folks on the beach just going to
the bathroom in the water. So that what's happening it
sewage bills and right now Los Angeles City has had
to pay some twenty million dollars for discharging get this,
over twelve million gallons of sewage into the Santa Monica
(03:27):
Bay alone. Now, you think a lot of these properties
that are built along the beaches, a lot of these
houses and along the coastline. We actually had someone hit
us back on the talk back in the upper left
hand corner on the iHeartRadio app and say that a
lot of those houses are built on a septic tank system,
meaning that when those septic tanks get full, if they're
(03:48):
not drained or if they crack or anything. Where does
all that sewage go? It goes into our water. Yes, well,
the City of Los Angeles they agreed to pay again
twenty million dollars in response to the release of over
twelve million gallons of untreated meaning it hasn't been processed,
meaning it's still raw, raw sewage going into the Santa
(04:11):
Monica Bay. And this is happening back in twenty twenty one.
Don't tell me it's not still happening. Why Because every
week we get some report from the La County Department
of Health warning us to stay out of the water
along certain beaches. We have another report that came out
this week. The warnings were issued after tests concluded that
(04:35):
there were high bacteria levels prevalent in the water. Bacteria
aka poop. Where are these warnings going out? The entire
swim area at Lost Floris Creek, the entire swim area
at Walnut Creek at Paradise Cove, the entire swim area
at Solstice Creek at Dan Blocker County Beach, one hundred
(04:55):
yards up and down the coastline from Marie Kenya Storm
at Puerco Beach, one hundred yards up and down the
coast from Paradise Cove here at Ramirez Creek. Look all
along the SoCal coastline, you're getting these warnings. There's filth
in the water, and it's even I believe, driving sea
(05:19):
life out of the water. Now, I know we got
to talk back, not long a goalf twala. I just
want to let you out. It's it's not the palp
in the water. It's actually algae that's making the sea
lions sick. Well, I have to tell you, I'm sure
poot would make the sea lions sick too. Okay, how
about that. Well, I have to say that there are
hundreds of sea lions that have taken over a beach
(05:44):
in where is this in Monterey? Monterey Bay National Marine
Sanctuary is warning us that San Carlos Beach along that area,
there were hundreds of sea lions, male sea lions mainly,
you know, a few pups and some mama sea lions
as well. But they're all along the beach just and
(06:06):
I don't know if they're sun tanning. I really don't
believe that they're out there getting some sun. I think
they're out there doing what we should be doing, avoiding
the water. Now, of course we can't communicate with these
sea lions. We don't know, but they're probably if they
could tell us, they would say that water is ftted,
that water is filthy, that water is disgusting. Now, please,
(06:30):
if you do want to go down and see the
sea lions, please do not harass the sea lions. Don't
try to feed the sea lions. Don't try to get
the sea lions back into the water. Just leave the
sea lions alone. There've already been videos of people out
there and come on, sea lion. No, they're not domesticated
(06:51):
sea lions. Leave the sea lions alone before you mess
around and get bit or catch something or whatever the
case may be. Hey, okay, now you can catching something.
There has been not an outbreak or there have been
signs or detections of valley fever here in southern California,
(07:12):
and valley fever is transmitted not from person to person,
but from fleas, fleas that have been on filthy animals
that you know, if you get bitten by one of
these fleas, or your say, going on a hike or
something like that on a mountain trail, or you're out
and about and you you're in an area that could
be infested with rodents or something like that. Or you know,
(07:36):
you have your dog out in the park and goes
running around the bushes. It comes back is fleece whatever
they get on you or whatever, valley fever very back
and make you very very sick. Turns out that there's
actually probably a root cause to this valley fever, and
that has to do with this extreme heat wave we've
(07:56):
been having and the resulting surd in rodents. I don't
know if you've caught any lately, but if you've got
low brush or you've been anywhere where like even here
when we leave out the building, right outside the front here,
right outside of the main doors, there's like this low
brush in son as you're here, rustling around and stuff
like that. Rodents, all right, it's not the wind rustling
(08:20):
around those bushes. It's rodents. And I would look, I
leave here pretty late most nights when I'm walking out
of here after working on later with mo Kelly, and
I have seen the rats running around out there.
Speaker 2 (08:33):
We have rodents at the iHeart, yes, downstairs in the
in the little brush.
Speaker 1 (08:38):
It's not the wing girl.
Speaker 2 (08:40):
You messed up my view of this place already. Interest
My goodness, now I've seen the little cute rabbit. You
sure it's not the little cute rabbit. It's not, okay?
Speaker 1 (08:52):
Was it was Ben? And he was out there, Michael
Jackson because the rats wrapped their rat. Okay, they're out
there a rat. Y'all won't see me anymore after you do. No, no, look, no,
you gotta come back, you know, saying listening, the rats
will see you and say, oh, look at her. She
is just stunning. I want to talk to rats or
(09:14):
men who look like rats. That's another story. The building
can relects rats to men and rodents. I swear. Sometimes
they're down there. You just go like, what is this
ratty looking dude doing? Okay? Look? Side note major side note.
The rats are on the on the surge. Please please
please make sure you are throwing away your trash, make
(09:35):
sure you are keeping your areas clean, around your houses
and all that, because the last thing you want is
a rodent infestation. I am looking down the way at you.
Morton's all right. SCAMFIM six forty Life Everywhere. On the
iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 3 (09:51):
You're listening to Soul col Saturday with Tawla Sharp on
demand from KFI AM six forty.
Speaker 1 (10:04):
It's gotta be Kfi Amix, Sporting Live everywhere on the
iHeartRadio app, and Aguadulce, Monrovia, daina Point and even San Bernardino.
This is soul Goal Saturday, taking a look at some
(10:25):
digital things here in southern California. Digital meaning what taa
did you know? And you may not. You may be
kind of like a dinosaur like me, Like I still
burn CDs. Okay, I do, I actually do. I do
not have apps where I'm able to put playlists together.
(10:46):
My children they look at me like I'm some caveman
starting a fire with rocks like that. You know there
are apps and things like that that you can create
your playlist. No, damn it, I'm sitting up late at
night crafty the perfect CD, making sure the blends go
exactly the way they I don't want the songs to
start the way. I don't want to just, you know,
(11:07):
request a bunch of songs be on an app and
they just play all willy nilly. I don't do that.
I make my own playlist, okay, in old school like that.
So to hear that right now here in California, we
can add our driver's licenses onto our phones and it's
just a digital What what is happening now? Yes, here
(11:30):
in California, we can now add a digital driver's license
or state ID to our Google Wallet on mobile devices. Yes,
we are one of five states to even offer this
new fangled thing for you youngsters, Google Wallet. I don't
even know where my Google Wallet is on my phone.
I think I do. I think I have a few
(11:50):
things in it. I was told to put like my
COVID card in there, but I'm like, who's looking at that? Okay,
so this is another reason I don't even use the thing.
But it's here. The official roll out of the digital
driver's license and state IDs follow the governor's announcement last
week that the same feature will also be available for
(12:12):
iPhone users. All Right, you I people, you know you
guys got it. Got the next you know those of
us who are original g's, you know g's for Google,
and we're able to use it on our Android devices.
We were able to test for you to make sure
that it works out. You'll be able to use this
at when you present your I guess you would typically
(12:36):
use it your know your IDs, but not try D
But is it passports? I don't know, I don't know.
I don't travel that often. But you can use this
now when you're traveling, you know, so when you go
through TSA, you don't have to worry about any of
your IDs. Don't you pull out your phone? I don't.
I don't travel. That's really.
Speaker 4 (12:55):
Yeah, you do need your passport or your ID usually,
but now they have the system where you just pull
down your face mask and like scan your face and
they can. Yeah, it's really They take your picture and
they know if you're like.
Speaker 1 (13:05):
Some total recall what is happening. You're in the future.
You're in the future. Well, you know, digital driver's license
face scanning at the airport. What's next? What's next? You asked, Well,
in California, we have recently halted a bill and by we,
I mean California lawmakers have halted this bill that was
(13:26):
going to mandate tech firms have to pay news outlets
and that was going to be a major, major thing.
So like Google, Meta, Facebook, who else drops you know,
the occasional news article, like if you see it on
Twitter or not Twitter, x H Twitch? What is you know?
(13:51):
You know, all the things stuff, all the social media
is out on social media enough to know but I
do know that sometimes young people, especially they get a
lot of their news from Twitter or x even TikTok
and on my son and daughter, that that is kind
of where they see things popping up and they'll ask
(14:12):
about it, but that's where it populates. And there was
this bill that was going to be happening in California
where they were going to force these companies to pay
for news, and that would have been a huge problem
because a lot of these outlets said, nah, now we're
not going to do that. What we ended up were
(14:33):
what could have possibly happened is we would have then
ended up with the quote unquote fake news, people just
making up stuff and posting on without real news on
some of these outlets, without you being able to access
real news articles on some of these sites. We have
a society that I believe is blind, especially when social
(14:56):
media has such power over where people are and sourcing
their information. It is important to have news on these outlets.
And so this is a fantastic thing that lawmakers have
done here in California. And lastly, and this is something
that definitely hits me or hits home for me, is
(15:20):
more and more California schools and school districts, not just LAUSD,
but school districts statewide are looking at banning smartphones on
campus or the use of them on campus. And this
is something that they're rolling out here, especially in LAUSD,
and it hasn't been it hasn't been easy. And I
(15:42):
know we were talking about this on later with mo Kelly,
and mo Kelly was saying, well, you know, if these
kids come to school and they have to turn it
in their phone or whatever, they're going to bring a
dummy phone. They're going to be an old phone that
can bring it, that they can put in the bag
while still keeping their phone, or they're to find some
way to open up whatever power as you may have though,
and behold, that's exactly what's been happening so far. Kids
(16:05):
are bringing dummy phones because you know, teachers or professionals
are collecting phones or making them put phones in these pouches,
these magnetically sealed pouches, and kids are finding, of course,
ways around it. But I still think that this is
something that we absolutely need. Kids do not need to
be on their phones during the day while they are
(16:26):
at school. It is a huge distraction for them. It
is a huge distraction for professionals on the campus. And
I don't see any good that comes from kids having
their phones or having access to them on during the
day unless it's for emergencies. But as this plan has
already been rolled out, you can request access to your
(16:47):
phone if there is an emergency you know you're gonna
have to call your parents or your parents need to
be in contact with you during the day, you will
have access to it. You can turn it in. But
as uphill a client that this is, I mean, this
may be an uphill climb with roller skates on, But
I still think school districts statewide need to really, really
(17:09):
really enhance this. More money needs to go towards you know,
better bags or better pouches to hold these phones. And
we need it because right now in the nation, we
are coming in real, real low when it comes into education.
You know, California, We're not you know, turn out a
bunch of geniuses right now here in our school districts
(17:31):
because there are too many things that are distracting kids.
There are too many things that are all round. I mean,
we already have really really piss poor schools within a
lot of the school district schools. They are just run
down schools that don't have access to computers or laptops
or any things like that. Damn it, Take these damn
phones away. Okay. Kids don't need to be tiktoking in class.
They need to be focusing on class and get and graduating.
(17:53):
I know it's really coming from, you know, a personal perspective,
because I really truly do not think that my daughter
needs her phone to wampus.
Speaker 5 (18:00):
I think they call it a trap phone to parents
should know they call it a trap phone, not a
not a dummy phone. Trap phone. Okay, yeah, if you
hear your kids say that, you know, sums up.
Speaker 1 (18:10):
See I didn't even know. Thank you for exposing that role.
Hell yeah, yeah, we'll get these kids in trouble. You
old men want to get these kids in trouble.
Speaker 4 (18:21):
You guys sound you guys sound your knees are cracking?
Speaker 1 (18:24):
Yeah they are. You see how slowly I stand up.
KFIM six forty Live everywhere all the iHeart Radio app.
Speaker 3 (18:34):
You're listening to Soul cal Saturday with Tawala Sharp on
demand from KFI AM six forty.
Speaker 1 (18:51):
Kf I AM six forty Live everywhere on the iHeart
Radio app and now Hambra San dimas Fullerton and Redlands.
This is soul cal Saturday. I'm your host, Twalla Sharp
laughing at San Bernardino straight up, Like why am I
laughing at San Bernardino Because they are yet another city
(19:15):
here in Soco, another county here in Soco that's gotten
a bug up there behind about seceding from California. They
want to be their own state, the state of sam Berdino.
Of all the silliness, absolute comedy. Where are you traveling to? Well,
(19:41):
you know, me and the family, we've always wanted to
go to California, But like the state of San Bernardino,
that's just like, no one's gonna do that, really and truly,
you drive through sam Bernardino to get to other places,
but you're not really trying to go to sam Bernardino
as a state. But look, okay, Sam Bernardino County voters
(20:07):
they actually approved measured ee in twenty twenty two that
authorized the county government to explore the idea of seceding
from California if the region wasn't getting its fair share
of state resources. Well, turns out the county is yes.
(20:29):
The county government revealed recently the results of a study
conducted by the Blue Sky Consulting group that shows the
county actually receives nine percent more state funding per person
than other county statewide. So that right there puts a
cabash on the reasons for wanting to secede from California.
(20:52):
But just tell me, how was that gonna work? Okay,
how are you going to try to be your own
little mini state here in southern California? What industry? What
state revenue are you generating in San Bernardino? Like, what
(21:13):
is the product that Sam Bernardino is generating where it's like,
you know what, in San Bernardino its home of Google
or Tesla or something. I'm just saying, as a state,
how is your state raising revenue outside of what taxes?
I mean, what are you doing in the state of
San Bernardino. It's absolutely silly. I just to me the
(21:35):
idea that this was even out there, it's utterly ridiculous.
I mean, I know a few years back, billionaire Tim
Draper had the concept of breaking California up into I
believe it was at the time, I think it was
like three different states, which I could see that California
if you never traveled California is huge by comparison. I mean,
(21:59):
there are some dates here in the United States where
it would take three or four to make up one California.
So I can see the concept of that. But Sam Bernardino,
shame on you, Shame on you for even the thought
or the idea. The dirty nerve don't want us to see.
(22:21):
That is just absolutely, absolutely insane. And one thing I
can't say about California. Maybe this is maybe part of
the reason why Sam Bernardino wanted to succeed, because you know,
there was this big push, this mass exodus of California.
Remember we kept hearing about that, the exodus of California.
(22:42):
More people are leaving California. Turns out that's kind of
die down. Why because there's a lot of people who
are realizing doesn't matter where you go there you are,
there isn't really just this golden state anywhere where you're
gonna go, where you're just gonna find life is better
outside of California. And I can find some place sunnier
(23:03):
or anything like that, maybe maybe less expensive. And people
are blaming you know, the high cost of living on
the governor or the mayor or whatever. Turns out, turns
out that is actually just peer unadulterated capitalism that is
the cause of or the root cause of the high
(23:23):
rent prices. How do I know, because the Justice Department
has just filed an antitrust lawsuit this past Friday against
a real estate software company that has been accused of
illegally scheming to create a program that allows ladinlords to
coordinate rent height rent hikes. Period. This company, Real Page Incorporated,
(23:49):
was working with landlords across the state to artificially increase rents.
And this is part of it that has nothing to
do with something that falls on the governor's office. No,
this was literally just a campaign, just the scheme that
(24:11):
I believe it is all a part of reducing the population. Okay,
let me be clear you this is my conspiracy theory.
I believe that there is a conspiracy theory to bring
the population of California down. Okay. A lot of the
push for this exodus in California was coming from one county,
(24:34):
Orange County. I'm looking at you and really and truly
and you know nothing against Orange County. Look, I love
Orange County. I'm just saying, like a lot of the
push and a lot of the we're leaving California and California.
A lot of that was news was coming out of
Orange County. And if you think about it, if you
can reduce the population in southern California, there is, I believe,
(25:00):
later chance that you may be able to flip the state,
maybe make the state red if you start making it
too expensive to live in southern California. And the prevailing
theory is that those who tend to vote Democrat are
not as affluent, and maybe those are the ones who
are being urged or cohersed to move. No, I'm off
(25:23):
in a wild tangent here, but when you see that
there is an actual company working with landlords to artificially
raise rent prices, there seems to be some there there.
I don't know. I don't know. Glad to see that
the Justice Department is on it, and hopefully we will
(25:46):
see some really really affluent billionaires doing the perp walk.
All right, This is KFI AM six forty Live everywhere
on the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 3 (25:57):
You're listening to Soul cal Saturday with Taula show on
demand from KFI AM six forty.
Speaker 1 (26:26):
KFI AM six forty Live everywhere on the iHeart Radio
app in El Sereno, Sawtel, Laguna Noguel and Marino Valley.
This is soul cal Saturday. I'm your host, Twyla Sharp.
And once upon a time I was in the club scene.
And not necessarily because I'm just a party kind of person,
(26:49):
but when I was working in music radio, that went
hand in hand with my job. It's like the music director.
I was in the club's everne night, one club after another,
you know, hanging out with DJs, hanging out with recording
artists or record labels, you know, and it's always, you know,
check out this music, get a drink, hang out with us,
(27:10):
and kind of like so I was on the scene.
I was I was out all the time, late night.
And when I was young, this is you know, way
way back. I think to myself, why must the party
be over? You know when when the you know, damn
near sometimes around midnight, you know you have DJ saying
all right, last call. You're like, all right, you know,
the party's over. It's not like New York where you know,
(27:33):
one time I went to New York and we went
to a party and when we walked out, it was daytime,
and it's like, what the hell, you know, there are
people literally getting their suits and stuff, like you know,
their their business suits from from the damn coch check
and like putting on ties and like I got to
get to work, and I'm like, what's happening? I thought
(27:53):
it was insanity, but suffice it to say, Uh, New York,
I believe there's even some spots in Chicago. You know,
all along the East coast the party don't stop till
the party stops. Right here on the West Coast can't
really do that. Maybe it's gang culture, you know, maybe
it's just, you know, just because we get tired earlier.
I don't know why we go to sleep so early
(28:15):
on the West Coast. But late night clubs not really
a thing, even the secret after hour spots. I've been
to a few of those. They're not really popping. They're
more quiet, a bunch of people sitting around drinking, you know,
a little cigar or something. But it's not a party. Well,
because of AB thirty two oh six, which was introduced
by assembly Member Tina mckinner, this bill has authorized alcoholic
(28:42):
beverage sales to occur between two am and four am
upon the on sale licensed premises operated in a fully
enclosed area with a seating capacity of blah blah blah
blah blah blah blah blah blah blah. Look basically, Assembly
Member mckinner. She likes to party, she likes to hang
out late, and to me, that's the only reason that
(29:03):
she would authorize a bill like this. No, I kid,
I kid, I can't, I can't. I don't know. Simply
remember mckinner. But you know she definitely authorized this bill.
And this bill allowed for again late night party. The
party can now stay going on till four am, meaning
arguably five am people are leaving the club. Okay, you know,
even if you stop serving liquor at four, ain't no
(29:26):
one trying to go home right away? Well, because of
this LA's into a dome. They are looking to be
the first to kick off a all night party, or
at least till four am party inside a new exclusive
club at the end a dome. Yes. Now, me, personally,
(29:49):
I don't know about this. I really don't know if
this is a good idea. To me, Nothing good happens
when you are out that late at night. It really
really doesn't. You are only up to no good.
Speaker 4 (30:02):
That's the kind of party and not the up to
no good part. But that's the when in New Jersey,
that's the time the bars and the club's usually close
for am. So when you come somewhere and it's like
everything is two am, Like where are we going, it's oh,
every we have to go home, that's wild to me.
So this is nice that we have the options to
stay out till four AM.
Speaker 1 (30:20):
I think, uh, looking at that again, I don't know her,
but I'm thinking maybe assembly Member mckinner is from the
East Coast. Mackenner is a good time. She's a good time.
She was literally like, let's get this bill Popp and
I think when it came in front of her desk,
she was like, let's go, let's keep the party going
till four a m.
Speaker 5 (30:40):
I heard them the estimates though, money wise, it's a
lot more income for everybody that works in nightlife industry, servers,
you know, even yeah, door people, security.
Speaker 1 (30:51):
So overall, absolutely absolutely, it's going to be a lot
more money for the coroner's office too, because people, oh
god about that late. There's going to be a lot
of dead people. It's going to be a lot of
people dying on the road, a lot of people being
murdered on the way to their cars because the jackers
are out at night. Well, the jackers are out at night,
(31:12):
I promise you this. People leaving at four am, oh yeah,
oh yeah. I grew up with individuals that will just
be looking for an opportunity to find someone out little
tipsy at four am. So they end up in the
water going swimming too. But the good tides, it.
Speaker 4 (31:30):
Just keeps getting worse, it gets getting worse.
Speaker 1 (31:33):
I love it.
Speaker 4 (31:33):
But is that saying leave half an hour before the
