Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is the Ben and Ashley I Almost Famous podcast
with iHeartRadio. Hey, everybody's Bob Ginny here. Welcome to the
Almost Famous Podcast. My lovely counterpart, Trista Sutter Nae Wren
was unavailable today, so I'm jumping on for a little
bit of breaking news, some sad stuff actually in Bachelor
Nation today. We're just came out that Grant and Juliana

(00:24):
have broken up. Bummer obviously after three months. But you know,
I will say from experience, it can be kind of tough,
especially when you're all over the place, which I mean
I really didn't follow the two of them so much
right after the show had aired, but for whatever reason,

(00:44):
I recently noticed Grant was like in Shanghai, and then
another day he's in you know, here and there, and
he is kind of all over the map, and a
lot of it was by himself.

Speaker 2 (00:52):
And let's be honest, it's tough in a conventional.

Speaker 1 (00:56):
Normal relationship when the two people never see each other, right,
It's difficult when that happens. And I think that that
might be what's at play here. So at any rate,
statements just came out, I'll read them for you. Grant statement,
This is one of the hardest things I've ever had
to write, but I want to share it Honestly, Julianne
and I have decided to end our relationship. We both

(01:18):
gave this our best and poured a lot of love
into each other, but after a lot of deep conversations,
we've come to the understanding that we're simply not the right.

Speaker 2 (01:24):
Fit long term. What we have is meaningful.

Speaker 1 (01:27):
The connection we built on the show was real, and
so is the effort that we've made to continue once
the cameras stopped rolling. There's no negativity here and no resentment,
just two people who care about each other and want
the best for one another. Moving forward, I'll always be
grateful for what we shared and for the growth that
came with it. Thank you to everyone who supported us
and believed in our journey. This chapter is closing, but
we're both walking away with love and respect in our hearts.

(01:49):
So that was Grant's statement regarding their breakup.

Speaker 2 (01:53):
So you know, here's the thing.

Speaker 1 (01:56):
Relationships are interesting, obviously, Relationships on the back, Butler are
an enigma wrapped in a riddle, shrouded in mystery. I mean,
it's you know, you never know at least one of
these things are going to work out?

Speaker 2 (02:10):
Which one aren't.

Speaker 1 (02:11):
You know, a lot of people felt like at the
end of this show that Grant made the wrong choice
for him and his future. I didn't, actually, I thought
this was actually an interesting choice.

Speaker 2 (02:22):
But I thought it could it could have been just
the right mix to make it work. But you know,
what do I know? Guys? You know, I don't know anything,
But I feel like, you.

Speaker 1 (02:32):
Know, what he's saying here is that you know, they've
they've decided to end their relationship now. It is kind
of interesting because it's on the heels of a recent
interview where they were talking about moving in together, and
so it begs a question, did something recently happen that
sort of triggered this, or was the idea of actually
moving in together kind of did that create some cold

(02:52):
feet and maybe make people start looking in the mirror
a little bit more and wondering where things were going?
Who knows, you know, no one ever knows what goes
on behind closed doors with any couple, whether they're from
a television show or whether they're from a tender, or
whether they're from a local bar. Right, it's all the
same kind of thing. Emotions are evolved, hearts are involved.
I do love that the no negativity and no resentment

(03:14):
part is in there because I think that it's a
good thing. And time will tell, you know, if that's true,
which I think is something that we'll find. Probably is
because these two did seem to have I thought kind
of a nice relationship. Now. Juliana also put out a statement,
and it's interesting that it wasn't a joint statement because
a lot of times in these breakups, you know, when
they're really seemingly, you know, kind of a mutual thing,

(03:38):
they can often be a joint statement, but this one
was not.

Speaker 2 (03:40):
It says, it's a gift to find someone who sees the.

Speaker 1 (03:42):
World in a way that resonates with you and while
also encouraging you to grow. I've been grateful to share
that experience with Grant. That's very nice. Opening marriage is
a commitment. It's one we both still believe in deeply.
After a lot of honest conversations and reflection, we've come
to the decision that this chapter of our lives is
meant to continue on separate paths.

Speaker 2 (04:01):
We shared something.

Speaker 1 (04:02):
Meaningful, navigating a unique journey side by side, learning, growing,
and showing up for each other the best we knew
how and while this isn't the ending we once imagined,
it's one filled with mutual respect, care and hope for
what's ahead.

Speaker 2 (04:14):
We're still cheering each other on, just from different places. Now.

Speaker 1 (04:17):
I'm beyond thankful for all the love and support you
all have given us.

Speaker 2 (04:20):
Please be kind.

Speaker 1 (04:22):
That's a really nice she That was really nice. I
like Juliana's statement very much here again. You know, I
think we're seeing two people who you know, you never
know who initiated the breakup, you never know where it started,
where it ended. Lord knows, I've been through a few myself,
and you know, sometimes it really is what it seems

(04:42):
that two people just haven't you know, two people just
realize that they're not right to go on that next
step in their journey together. Marriage is a big one, man,
and I'm glad they made this decision before they before
they jumped into something and then, you know, God forbid,
brought kids into the world and everything else, and then
realize as they were on the wrong path. So hey,
you know, you got to you got to find the

(05:03):
positive on things. And I think, you know, from a
glass half full perspective, which I like to look at
life as much as I can. Good for them, right,
I mean, at the end of the day, they had
this magical moment on this really cool show that got
them to do some really cool stuff. And you know,
and and I think one of the hardest things about
the show today, which wasn't around obviously when when I

(05:24):
was filming either trist the season of The Bachelorette or
my own season of The Bachelor, was everyone's opinions now resonate, right,
So you've got social media that literally more people watch
the show on social media now than watching on actual television,
and more people chime in from that perspective as well.
And everybody's got an opinion, and it's usually jaded. It's

(05:46):
usually coming from somewhere that you know, has a tinge
of something that's like, you know, a little dagger. People
like to take their shots, and that can take a
toll on a person. And I'm sure on a relationship too,
So who knows, who knows what was going on here,
But I will say I like that both of them
made statements that were very respectful and kind to one another.

(06:08):
I think that's a big, big, big thing and shows
their maturity as individuals too.

Speaker 2 (06:12):
So let's dig in a little deeper here.

Speaker 1 (06:15):
You know, in grant statement, he chose a photo to
post where they're both It's from People Magazines, the photoshoot
of their engagement.

Speaker 2 (06:23):
You know, they're looking super happy. They're both looking right
at the camera.

Speaker 1 (06:26):
Juliana's got her hand in the air showing that that
rock of an engagement.

Speaker 2 (06:30):
Neil Lane engagement ring that will be returned to producers,
I'm sure very soon.

Speaker 1 (06:37):
Juliana, on the other hand, chose a picture where she
looks very elegant and the back of Grant's head looks nice.
So not sure what that means, right, Not sure if
maybe she just couldn't, you know, stand the idea of
putting his face on a picture with her at that moment,
because I'm sure you know. Here's the thing, here's the
thing I do know about breakups, of which I've been

(06:58):
through many.

Speaker 2 (07:00):
You know, even when you want them, you're still sad.

Speaker 1 (07:03):
Right, So, even when you know it's the right thing
to do, whether it's a dating relationship breaking up or
a marital relationship splitting up, or whatever it might be,
it still sucks.

Speaker 2 (07:12):
There's no two ways around it.

Speaker 1 (07:13):
So I think from that perspective, you know, maybe we're
seeing a little bit of that from her as well.

Speaker 2 (07:19):
Right, So.

Speaker 1 (07:21):
Would you would you would anyone else out there think
that maybe this seems like Grant initiated this, because I
would think from the pictures that maybe that's what that means. Now.
I am not a photo analysis person for US Weekly
or People Magazine, but I am a photo taker on
my cell phone, and I can tell you from my
expert opinion and my expert analysis, that's what I'm doing.

(07:43):
That's where I'm coming from. I think, I think that's
what happened here. But and it is hard. I will
say this, it is hard to kind of remove yourself.
I've noticed that over the years of watching this show
because I was so so long.

Speaker 2 (07:54):
Ago that I've forgotten what it was like for myself.

Speaker 1 (07:57):
But having you know, watched the season year over year,
it's seems like it's harder for the people who are
the the leads of the show, who are kind of
put out there on the promotional schedules to maybe, you know,
realize that, you know, in order to make this work,
the relationship work, you got to kind of take yourself

(08:18):
out of that channel, right, I mean it's it's long
been the why the bachelorettes are more successful than the
bachelor's right, the bachelorette couple are more successful than the
bachelor couples. And maybe that's why the Bachelor in Paradise
couples are successful too, because they're not as in demand.
I guess maybe from that perspective after their seasons are over.
But the bachelorette couples tristas a primary example. My co

(08:41):
ho is Trista.

Speaker 2 (08:42):
You know, she took herself off the whole thing, right,
and she.

Speaker 1 (08:45):
Focused on her and Ryan, and she and Ryan were
like focused on each other, and they took that time
that they needed, I think, to kind of solidify or
cement that relationship. Becau. Let's be honest, guys. I mean
these shows are fast, right. You meet thirty people on
night one. I mean back when we did it on
the Ogs, four weeks later, you're supposed to be dropping
to a knee and popping a box, right. I think that,

(09:08):
you know, from that perspective, now it's a longer season.
I think now it's like seven or eight weeks that
they actually filmed because they travel so much more. But
I feel like now it's got to be or that,
I feel like it was even more difficult, which is
why the season takes a little bit longer now. But
now it's more difficult, I think, because you know, you've
got a lot of people out there that are kind
of working the circuit, you know, popping up their hair

(09:30):
gummies and the tooth whitening kits, and then at the
end of the day, they're also you know, trying to
solidify a relationship. My lovely co host Trista suttern nay
Ren told us that she is sad by this breaking news.

Speaker 2 (09:55):
And and you know, I am too. I Mean, I
don't know these people.

Speaker 1 (09:59):
I don't know them a all, but I do feel
a weird kind of connection to them, having been on
The Bachelor at first and then the Bachelor, and it
is kind of weird that we all feel like we
have this strange connection with each other, and we all
meet and you know, when we ever we do meet up,
it's almost like we know each other. But I'm sad
by this too, because I know that no relationship, especially
one that's public, do you want to feel like you

(10:23):
got off the train early, right? I mean, you never
want to feel like you're that person who went through
all this stuff and then at the end failed, and
that is how it feels. I will say that I'm
sure that both of them are experiencing a little bit
of embarrassment, which I know probably isn't a popular thing
to say, but I know having been divorced. My ex
wife was an actress, and when we got divorced and

(10:44):
it was all over people and magazine at the time
there were actually magazines and US Weekly and all that
kind of stuff, I was as embarrassed as I was hurt,
right because I didn't want to fail.

Speaker 2 (10:55):
I wanted to succeed.

Speaker 1 (10:55):
I wanted everyone to think that we're the ones and
we got it right, you know, and because that's what
I thought when we got married, and and you know, so,
I think that there's a part of that that probably
is you know, is a part of these statements too.
As they're protecting each other, they're protecting themselves. They realize
there's going to be backlash.

Speaker 2 (11:14):
They realized that people that were you know, is it real?
Is it fake? You know, now they're gonna be like,
I told you it was fake, and it's like, no,
it wasn't fake.

Speaker 1 (11:21):
We were really feeling each other now for three months
and three months. I mean, hey man, you know, in
Hollywood standards, that's a that's a you know, ten year anniversary.

Speaker 2 (11:32):
I'm kidding. I don't mean to laugh, but you know, anyway,
let's let's look at this.

Speaker 1 (11:36):
So not too long previous, Grant had said that he
and Juliana were taking their engagement day by day.

Speaker 2 (11:46):
Now that I will tell you as a telltale.

Speaker 1 (11:48):
Right. So, one thing I've learned from watching these shows
over the years and and seeing, you know, a few
months later as people come through, and if they still
haven't set a date, or maybe they still haven't you know,
arrived at something.

Speaker 2 (12:01):
I mean three months, I think that's probably a little premature,
you know. I think everybody's taking it day by day.

Speaker 1 (12:06):
At that point, they hadn't even moved in together, right,
So I think I think from that perspective, maybe that's
not as much of a telltale as as it would
have been six months down the road.

Speaker 2 (12:16):
Right, six months, nine months, a year, we still don't
have a date. We're taking it day by day. That's
huge red flag.

Speaker 1 (12:23):
A couple however, that I think was awesome and kind
of dispelled this whole thing was Jojo and and her guy,
the guy she married, Jordan, thank you, a couple that
I think kind of dispelled that that myth was Jojo
and Jordan.

Speaker 2 (12:39):
Right, a lot of things came up.

Speaker 1 (12:40):
COVID came up while they were in the midst of
their planning of their wedding, and so they postponed.

Speaker 2 (12:46):
It and everyone's like, oh, oh, here we go, here's
another one.

Speaker 1 (12:49):
Right, super long engagement, and now they're happily married and
seemingly super happy. And you know, guys, that's another thing too.
A lot of this stuff with social media, you forget
we only see the highlights, right, I mean the people
that are actually throwing the bad stuff up there, well,
we don't really follow them that long either, right. We
kind of are like, Man, I'm not going on Instagram
to get sad today, although I do love a lot

(13:09):
of those posts about dogs and stuff.

Speaker 2 (13:10):
But dogs and kids always get me.

Speaker 1 (13:13):
But when it comes to like, you know, the people
that are are part of the show or part of
the you know, the zeitgeist of what the Bachelor has created,
I mean, it's the highlights. We aren't seeing what's going
on day to day. So it doesn't mean they're misleading us.
It just means that they're posting the good days, right,
and they're not necessarily posting the days.

Speaker 2 (13:32):
That aren't so great.

Speaker 1 (13:33):
So but anyway, Graham had mentioned a few weeks before
the split that they were taking their relationship day by
day and that they you know, they have a lot
of love and support between their family and friends, and
he was supposed to be moving to Boston and they
were going to move in.

Speaker 2 (13:48):
With each other.

Speaker 1 (13:48):
Boston's a great SETI I love it. But you know
what they they did not.

Speaker 2 (13:55):
They did not last guys, and that is the news
of today. Those are the hot time topics of today.

Speaker 1 (14:01):
Now there are some others, and we have a couple
others who where engagements were called off, and let's get
into them a little bit. I'm gonna go with the
ones I know first and then I'm gonna go with
some others. So Katie and Blake Bachelor at Season seventeen,
it was a he said, she said for sure. Two
months after the Bachelor and accept the proposal from the
Canadian wildlife manager on air, they posted matching messages to

(14:25):
Instagram announcing they go on.

Speaker 2 (14:26):
Their separate ways, and you know there was something there.

Speaker 1 (14:31):
Obviously they felt enough to get together, but then you know,
it didn't work out. Taysha Adams and Zach Clark. I've
met Tasha very lovely the Bachelor of Season sixteen. They
were together a year, right, so that was pretty good,
but you know, it kind of ended and all she
had to say was that she was heartbroken. She move

(14:53):
moved cross country to join Zach in New York. We
tried really hard. I still love them very much. I'm
just not sure what the future holds. And you know,
that's that's tough.

Speaker 2 (15:01):
He said.

Speaker 1 (15:01):
Two good people don't always make a good relationship, and
that's my experience. So a little, you know, a little
more of a more concise message, I guess. Okay, Nate
and Michelle, you know, they were going to other lesson
a year. She had said, I'm struggling to say that
Nate and I will be going our separate ways. He
chimed in, and he had said, you know, we were
looking for our soulmates, our forever, our best friends. However,

(15:24):
we grow and learn and we realize that sometimes somebody
that you hold dear to your heart isn't somebody that
you meant to spend the rest of your life with.

Speaker 2 (15:30):
Well, that's a pretty eloquent statement.

Speaker 1 (15:31):
Actually, months later on The Vile Files, they said they
come close to breaking up many times before, and it
was tough and they were having a rough time.

Speaker 2 (15:41):
I get it.

Speaker 1 (15:41):
I mean, relationships are hard, guys, That's why not everybody
does it right. However, breaking news on this breaking news,
Michelle just got married to her husband Jack on June seventh,
So congrats to her.

Speaker 2 (15:53):
The pictures were just released yesterday.

Speaker 1 (15:55):
Very exciting news that Michelle's happy met her before in
Tahoe I think or it was in northern.

Speaker 2 (16:01):
California, and she was lovely. Susie Evans and Clayton eckered.

Speaker 1 (16:05):
Now I have met Clayton. I have not met Susie,
although I've seen Susie in the news quite a bit. Now,
he said, she said, here we go, she said, we
understand that there will likely be a lot of questions.

Speaker 2 (16:16):
About this decisions.

Speaker 1 (16:17):
Social media is definitely a highlight, and much of our
experiences together we have kept private. I'm sure most can understand. Oh,
that was actually a joint statement, so that's good, but.

Speaker 2 (16:27):
We will share this.

Speaker 1 (16:27):
Almost last year together has brought us joy and laughs.
There's also been a lot of pain, Damn, that's that
didn't end the way I thought it was. I should
have read ahead, guys, Sorry about that. Rachel and Tino
Franco Bachelor at season nineteen a few months you know,
this was the one where Rachel told hosts Jesse Palmer

(16:48):
Tino kissed another woman.

Speaker 2 (16:50):
It's just heartbreaking.

Speaker 1 (16:50):
This is the person I thought I was going to
spend the rest of my life with and start a
family with.

Speaker 2 (16:54):
That's always rough when it works.

Speaker 1 (16:55):
Out that way, you know, that's it's tough. Gabby and
Eric from The Bachelor at season nineteen. She was the
Dancing with the Stars contestant. She didn't quick step around
the issue. I love that she said. I just get
I went through.

Speaker 2 (17:12):
A breakup and it's been tough.

Speaker 1 (17:14):
The end of our relationship happened because we weren't completely
in step and then sync with each other in our
common goals of how we approached life.

Speaker 2 (17:21):
Now, you know, I'll say this too.

Speaker 1 (17:24):
Obviously, there's a lot more breakups than successes in the
world of The Bachelor and the Bachelorette, right Hence the
way that we go about this show, like when the
ones do work out, we're stoked. I mean, it's exciting.
We're all super fired up, but you know, the relationships
actually are probably longer than what we realize.

Speaker 2 (17:41):
And I'll say it for this.

Speaker 1 (17:42):
Back in the day on my season, you know, I
didn't propose, but a Stella Gardner, who's a lovely person
and still a friend of mine to this day, I
gave her a promise ring.

Speaker 2 (17:55):
We started dating.

Speaker 1 (17:55):
Our show the finale taped in July, and we broke
up in December, which.

Speaker 2 (18:03):
Was what that's that's four months, right, four and a
half months.

Speaker 1 (18:06):
But to the viewing public, they thought it was three
weeks because our finale happened to air Thanksgiving weekend or
Thanksgiving week and then we broke up mid December. So,
you know, I think a lot of times, you know,
there might be more to the story than we know,
and there's definitely more time invested than we know, because
we don't know when the shows discontinue taping or when

(18:28):
they wrap taping. So, guys, in summation, it's a sad
day in battriination, right, we're dealing with a breakup today.
But we wish them both the very best moving forward.
They both seem like really nice people. Again, I don't
know them personally, but somehow I feel like I am
connected to them in some way, shape or form. So
I wish them both the very best. I wish everybody

(18:49):
the best, everyone that broke up on the on the
show and moved on that we talked about today. Like
I said, breakups are never easy, right, so we want
to wish everyone the best. We especially want to be
kind in these moments and let them know that, you know,
the support they've felt this whole time doesn't just go away.
Now they're no longer betrothed to one another, so production

(19:10):
team wins again. Though here they get another Neil Lane
back in that file cabinet. I'm telling you, I'm beginning
to wonder what they're gonna do with all those at
the end of this whole thing. At any rate, thank
you so much for watching Almost Famous and Almost Famous
