Speaker 2 (00:51):
Happy Thanksgiving. I love it too, But I mean, let
the record show. Don't love the history of Thanksgiving. Just
love eating a lot, Okay, and the food.

Speaker 1 (01:00):
Yes, yes, yes we're not because.

Speaker 2 (01:02):
I feel like we need to like rebrand it.

Speaker 1 (01:06):
What would you name it?

Speaker 2 (01:08):
I don't know. There's this stuff my face day. Yeah, okay,
you and I can eat, we can throw down. You
know you and I.

Speaker 1 (01:16):
Love some delicious certainly, can do you have? Do you have? Like?

Speaker 2 (01:22):
What are your plans for Thanksgiving?

Speaker 1 (01:23):
Today? So we're going to a friend family friend's house
and with some of my in laws and with Emma.
It's close by. So I'm here in La, which is lovely.
Didn't have to travel for Thanksgiving and we're gonna just eat.

(01:44):
I've made mashed potatoes. They are ready to go.

Speaker 2 (01:49):
Do you make those mashed potatoes? Like, how do you
feel about her?

Speaker 1 (01:52):
I do. Amber gave me a secret ingredient, and then
I had a secret ingredient, so I combined the secret ingredients.

Speaker 2 (02:00):
So I'm imagining so secret. It's not going to say it,
but like other.

Speaker 1 (02:04):
People have used it, so I'll tell you it's sour
cream and cream cheese.

Speaker 2 (02:12):
My stomach, my stomach.

Speaker 1 (02:14):
Is just but but but he let me be there,
so mashed potatoes are great, and then we make good
mashed potatoes. I will say my favorite is stuffing. It's
always been stuffing. Live for stuffing. It has to be right.
But I love stuffing like I need you.

Speaker 2 (02:30):
To break down. You're stuffing for me right now.

Speaker 1 (02:34):
I haven't made it in a long time. It is.
My mom's recipe is white bread.

Speaker 2 (02:37):
It's like New England stuffing because.

Speaker 1 (02:40):
Sorry onion, yes, sometimes sausage if you have you know,
mushrooms in there, no mushrooms though we don't do mushroom
because my dad never liked mushrooms, so we xnate the mushrooms.
But I like the mushrooms and really like broth, and
that's it. It's very simple, and then some seasonings.

Speaker 2 (02:59):
Obviously, because I'm from Texas but my whole family's from
New York and Connecticut, I grew up with, like I think,
New England style Thanksgiving. Yeah, and so I love that stuffing.
But we've merged our Thanksgiving with my brother, with my
sister and last family who are Texans, and so now

(03:19):
I feel like we have a hybrid of like the
best dishes from both and what is the Southern like?

Speaker 1 (03:25):
What are like the main differences? What would you say?

Speaker 2 (03:28):
I think the stuffing to be honest, there's like a
corn bread based stuffing and it is delicious.

Speaker 1 (03:37):
Now there's also stuffing like that people put in the bird. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (03:40):
No, no, no, we don't.

Speaker 1 (03:41):
Can't mess with me.

Speaker 2 (03:43):
No no, I'm not trying to do that.

Speaker 1 (03:44):
Okay, thank you.

Speaker 2 (03:45):
No, But I do prefer the New England stuffing, but
I do appreciate the corn bread.

Speaker 1 (03:50):
Yes.

Speaker 2 (03:51):
So a couple of years ago I showed up to
Thanksgiving at my brother's house and everything was bad. All
the food looked the same, like shade of beige. Everything
was like lukewarm right, nothing had flavor, And I was
so grossed out. And I was so disappointed because I,
you know, flew in and like, this is my holiday,

(04:12):
you guys because as you get older, like Christmas isn't
that fun because the gifts are for the kids. Yeah,
I'm like, this is the one we can stuff our faces. Yeah,
this should just be called stuffing Day.

Speaker 1 (04:25):
I eat it all the time. I'm so ready.

Speaker 2 (04:31):
And so I was like, Okay, next year, everyone, we're
gonna get our shit together, and me, who never cooks,
I will be leading the charge. And I have made
the turkey every single year.

Speaker 1 (04:44):
I'm so impressed and I have to say.

Speaker 2 (04:47):
I have nailed it. I crush it. It is, for
the first time in my life, a juicy turkey's flavor.
Every year, I try a little variation on it. Are
you doing it this year? I'm doing it this year?
And late so I had my mom Brian it in
advanced and over the years I've tested different Brians.

Speaker 1 (05:06):
Oh my gosh, I'm turkey scare me because it's a
very temperamental bird to cook.

Speaker 2 (05:11):
It is. However, if you brine it. I was doing
like a wet I'm not getting too into the weeds
about this, but I was doing like a wet brian.
I didn't even know what the word brian was before this,
and putting in like a big, gigantic, you know, bag,
and I would spill water all over my parents' garage.

Speaker 1 (05:31):
It.

Speaker 2 (05:33):
Yes, it's a mess, but it always It makes a
turkey cook so much faster. It's so much juicier. You
because my mom wasn't. I'm like, Mom, what's happening. This
turkey is flavorless and dry.

Speaker 1 (05:46):
No.

Speaker 2 (05:47):
She's like, well I used to, you know, I think
people you get complacent. She's it's a thankless job, it is,
and she's doing it every single year. And all my
knees and nephews be like, I don't like turkey. I'm like, no,
you're eating my turkey.

Speaker 1 (06:03):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (06:03):
Yeah, And every year it's the same thing because they
have it in their head that they don't like turkey,
and I forced them to eat it, and I watched them.
They're like, oh, this is good kep. I'm like, yes,
thank you very much.

Speaker 1 (06:15):
Wow, I'm impressed. But you bone.

Speaker 2 (06:17):
Appetite has a lot of great stuff and I would
watch all their videos and sort of what you did
with your mash potato recipes. Took a little bit of
this thing. It took a little of that thing, And
now I sort of like it's quick. I only cook
it for like two and a half hours.

Speaker 1 (06:32):
What have you tried the bacon on top of the turkey? No? Okay,
so we do bacon strips on top of the turkey.
What yeah, So after you you take it out halfway
and you put the bacon strips and we usually do
like a star and we do like a few lines
and then we put it back in and then it's

(06:52):
like really juicy because you get the juices of the
bacon on top. You might want to try it.

Speaker 2 (06:58):
Oh my god, Jenna.

Speaker 1 (07:00):
Because the bacon like doesn't taste that good after it's
been in it long, but it is.

Speaker 2 (07:04):
It's about the fat dripping off the bacon.

Speaker 1 (07:06):
Offy top on top of the skin on top of
the bird. Actually really great. So I learned a lot
during twenty.

Speaker 2 (07:15):
Twenty when I couldn't go home because of the pandemic,
I had Thanksgiving on my own for the first time,
and so Austin and I made every We made a
full Thanksgiving. Probably that could have fed like fifteen people
for four of us.

Speaker 1 (07:32):
Oh okay, impressive, that's good too.

Speaker 2 (07:33):
And we just tried a bunch of things, and I
learned the best thing to do is to make the
gravy the day before. You just buy you take like
the stuff from inside the turkey or it, buy turkey
neck or wings or whatever, and you make your gravy
the night before, and it is delicious because you can

(07:55):
control it better. The flavor is just as good, and
you just have to heat it. Now I know it's
one less thing to like if you can do as
much prep as possible the night before.

Speaker 1 (08:06):
I made one year I made Tully gave me a
recipe that he makes with his family because Telly's a
very good cook. And he made this cream corn side dish.
I've made that too, that has like the crispy onions
and tops. I fried the onions, I did the whole thing.
It was a hit. It was the star. It was
one of the star sides. I was so happy. It

(08:27):
was very good. Okay, so we've established that stuffing is
our favorite. I have a question for you, real cranberry
sauce or canned cranberry sauce, canned can to the slices,
sliced to the gods, Yeah, give me that can.

Speaker 2 (08:47):
I don't.

Speaker 1 (08:48):
You could just drop it out, yeah, and I would
eat it.

Speaker 2 (08:53):
I don't love the cranberry in general with all of this,
but as I'm getting older, I'm liking it a little more.

Speaker 1 (09:00):
Just like a little extra tartness on the plate.

Speaker 2 (09:04):
I get it. It makes sense because you do also
need something to break up the starchy and.

Speaker 1 (09:08):
Sauce that crunch. Yeah, fully sast that crunch. Okay, So
now we've talked about dinner, I'm starving. What's favorite? What
is your favorite Thanksgiving dessert?

Speaker 2 (09:24):
H oh god?

Speaker 1 (09:27):
And is it all homemade for you guys?

Speaker 2 (09:30):
Usually No, since Austin and I have been together and
he's come to a couple of Thanksgivings, yes, yes, Oh
my god, I felt so bad. So a couple of
years ago. The rolls. Austin makes homemade dinner rolls, and
they're unbelievable, Like you just eat them like apples, like

(09:50):
just keep them coming. But my mom's oven, she did
this weird thing to her oven where she like had
foil at the bottom of it so it didn't get dirty,
but it also stopped anything from cooking underneath. So Austin
made a pie, this incredible cranberry apple pie with like
a crumble on top. Unbelievable. I've had it before, but

(10:12):
it didn't bake on the bottom and it was burned
on top. And the same thing happened with all the rolls,
and he had prepped the night before, like you know,
it's a twenty four hour thing. Devastated, like so ruined
all of that. But Austin makes a like he's just
very very good. He makes a homie pumpkin pie. I
love pumpkin pie, love it. And last year he made

(10:37):
we were like, how do we simplify it because a
lot of people don't eat the dessert in our family.

Speaker 1 (10:42):
Totally and waste. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (10:46):
So last year was like, okay, what's a fan favorite?
What does everybody actually want? So we didn't plan it
and we got there and just asked people, you know,
like the day before and people he Austin gave some
options and he said chocolate cream pie and everyone was
like yes, oh yes. So he just like found a recipe,
like made up a recipe basically a chocolate green pie
and that was finished.

Speaker 1 (11:10):
I would eat that I like, we are having pecan pie.
Woman who makes them and they go and get them
hire to or dinner, and then.

Speaker 2 (11:21):
There's nothing wrong with outsourcing. I think that's there's so
much to do, but.

Speaker 1 (11:24):
It is homemade outsourced. Let me be clear.

Speaker 2 (11:27):
Yeah, that's the right way to do it.

Speaker 1 (11:29):
She has a small kitchen, she takes a lot of orders,
but she is damn good. Okay, so we've established now
we both eat cann cranberry because that is contrary.

Speaker 2 (11:41):
Even my mom are I just basically I was like,
if my mom's eating it, Jenna is eating it. Wait
do you guys have that? Like does your mom? Did
she ever make like the marshmallow fluff stuff?

Speaker 1 (11:54):
We didn't do that on top of the sweet Yes,
so yeah, there are marshmallows sweet potatoes. My mom didn't
do that because my aunt used to do a lot
of Thanksgiving, so got it. They we would bring stuff
and my aunt would do like the turkey and then
like a couple of the other things.

Speaker 2 (12:12):
But my moms would do the same place. That's why
I'm saying this.

Speaker 1 (12:14):
You know what maybe she did she did, and sometimes
they would do like a like a maple glaze on
top of them. I would be so mad. I hate maple,
and so I'd be so mad because it'd be like
a sweet potato cast role with like the marshmallow fluff
and like maple, And I'm like, just get out of here,
Lucky John's get out of here, get out of my face,

(12:35):
Get me to the good stuff. I could eat stove
top stuffing though, so I'm also not a good I
have a wide.

Speaker 2 (12:46):
Yeah, you and I appreciate I make like a McDonald's
burger just as much as we can appreciate like a
thirty dollars burger somewhere.

Speaker 1 (12:53):
Yeah, exactly what do you do? Do you have any
other things? Saving trend to Thanksgiving traditions? Don't you eat breakfast?
Like make breakfast too or something?

Speaker 2 (13:02):
No, that's Christmas, Christmas, there's a bit, but Thanksgiving afterwards
we play banana grams, like me and all the kids
and like nieces and nephews and everything, and it's become
like a thing everybody sort of looks forward to. Because
my sister in law's niece is just smarter than everyone,

(13:26):
and so even when she was like little somebody we
always had to pair up, and somebody would always have
to we'd battle for who would be Alli's partner, because
she's so brilliant, she would crush everyone.

Speaker 1 (13:39):
She still does. I get that, I know that partner,
and so.

Speaker 2 (13:42):
Everyone's just battling for second place basically.

Speaker 1 (13:44):
Sure. Sure. We used to go to Disney World every
year for Christmas, Thanksgiving, and so there were years we
would do my aunt's house the years we didn't go
to Disney but most of the time we went to
Disney And so we'd go to the Grand Floridian and
get a buffet for Thanksgiving. Oh yeah, it is legit.
I mean it's legit. It's really good. And we would

(14:06):
go to Disney World. The day before we would go
to like Animal Kingdom, we would go to Universal. So
we were I was talking to my brother today and
he's like, yeah, we would have been in Florida.

Speaker 2 (14:18):
Do you guys think you'll now that you both have kids,
do you think there's a chance to revive that?

Speaker 1 (14:24):
You know? I was thinking that, I think we're going
to revive it, but just not at Thanksgiving because it
is so crazy. Like we would go and the parks.
My brother and I were older by the time we
started going on our own, and like they would, we
would go to a universal. My dad would just drop
us off at like eight, us up at six, And

(14:46):
so with the kids as young as they are, it's
a little bit harder. There's a lot more to maneuver,
and so I think maybe later in time, when they're older,
we could do that again. But we we do want
to meet in disney World at some point.

Speaker 2 (15:01):
Yeah, but that would be really cool and old enough
where they can actually remember it totally.

Speaker 1 (15:06):
Like we're going to disney Land next week and on
his first time. We're very excited.

Speaker 2 (15:15):
I can't watch, but I will. Yeah, you guys will
have great pictures and things.

Speaker 1 (15:19):
Yeah, it's true, it's true. And we usually watched the
Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade. Do you remember when we were
supposed to be on the Macy's things?

Speaker 2 (15:27):
Yeah, I felt like that happened a couple of years
and we never got to do it.

Speaker 1 (15:30):
Well because it's NBC that was airing it and we
were on Fox, so we got uninvited. So the first
we're going to do, don't stop believing. Yeah, I was
so excited because that wouldn't been my first time doing
the Thanksgiving Day parade and that's like home for me.
So it was really cool, and then we got uninvited.

Speaker 2 (15:50):
I was so excited. That feels like it's a monumental thing.

Speaker 1 (15:53):
Yes, it's so I got it.

Speaker 2 (15:54):
Let us on this float and let us lip.

Speaker 1 (15:56):
Sync, like put the thing on the bottom cast of Glee. Yea,
I believe, and let us lip say some in some
cute red sweaters and some ear muffs and like, let
it be a thing. I was devastated.

Speaker 2 (16:07):
We started planning. I remember like talking to my family
like I think they are maybe going to come to
New York and yeah.

Speaker 1 (16:13):
Yeah, it's really fun anyway, maybe for us.

Speaker 2 (16:18):
But it was always so stressful when we were filming
because we're usually filming like a Christmas episode around this time,
and then we didn't know we all had flights. Most
of us did not live in LA or stay in
LA for Thanksgiving, so then we always had to figure
like are we going to make our flights? Like they
were always red ice to New York, so you could
usually make that if you got the latest fight. Well

(16:38):
to Texas, there weren't really red ice.

Speaker 1 (16:41):
We're working on that Wednesday. We only got off for
Thursday and Friday, and we had to be back at
work on Monday and that Wednesday. There were some Thanksgivings
that we were very really cutting it.

Speaker 2 (16:53):
I think there was one or two where I had
to cancel my flight and find out Thanksgiving morning.

Speaker 1 (16:57):
I believe that because they're also rushing to get it
done before the holiday. I don't know. I don't know.
It was crazy. I have a game. It's would you
rather Thanksgiving? Condition?

Speaker 2 (17:17):
Yes, let's do it.

Speaker 1 (17:19):
Okay, would you rather eat turkey every day by the
rest of your life? Or never have potatoes again?

Speaker 2 (17:27):
I love potatoes.

Speaker 1 (17:29):
Oh, then I have to say eat turkey every day?

Speaker 2 (17:31):
Yeah, I guess I'll eat turkey every day.

Speaker 1 (17:33):
Same. It's a lean meat, it is. If it's not dry,
I'll so fast. Okay. Drink apple cider with gravy in it,
or drink hot chocolate with cranberry sauce.

Speaker 2 (17:48):
Hot chocolate with cranberry, because I think cranberry and chocolate
sounds like a dessert, so I feel like those probably
pair better together.

Speaker 1 (17:57):
I was just thinking, like the cranberry sauce though, and
hot chocolate, it's not a it's a different kind of cranberry.
I'm going with apple cider and gravy.

Speaker 2 (18:05):
I think I might enjoy either of those. It's a
wind wind for me.

Speaker 1 (18:12):
Fair enough. Shop on Black Friday or Cyber Monday.

Speaker 2 (18:16):
Cyber Monday. Stay at home. I'm not going out in
those crowds.

Speaker 1 (18:20):
No, it's crazy. People get hurt. Yeah. Walk around with
a pocket full of stuffing for a day dream or
mashed potatoes.

Speaker 2 (18:30):
That's easy. That stays in there easily.

Speaker 1 (18:34):
Yes. Run in a turkey trot or do a polar
bear plunge.

Speaker 2 (18:39):
What is a turkey trots?

Speaker 1 (18:42):
Like a mini marathon? Yeah, like a park marathon. Or
do a polar bear plunge. I kind of like the.

Speaker 2 (18:48):
Polar I think I might do a polar plunge too.

Speaker 1 (18:50):
Actually, wow, it's good for you. Okay, cook the entire
meal or do all the dishes?

Speaker 2 (18:58):
Oh, do all the dishes.

Speaker 1 (19:01):
Wow. Oh, there's something enjoyable.

Speaker 2 (19:03):
I would say every other time of the year, do
the dishes for Thanksgiving because it's the one thing I
can do. I think I would cook the entire meal.

Speaker 1 (19:11):
I would cook the meal too. Actually, I changed my mind.

Speaker 2 (19:13):
Can we do what would you rather? Glee Edition? Okay?
You ready?

Speaker 1 (19:17):
Yes?

Speaker 2 (19:18):
Would you rather have Thanksgiving at Curtain Blaine's House or
Santana and Britney's House? Oh that's a good one. Oh man,
Oh okay.

Speaker 1 (19:25):
Let me think about this. I'm going with Curtain Blaine
because I feel like they'd be really good hosts.

Speaker 2 (19:33):
Okay, I'm gonna go with Santana and Brittany because I
feel like their food would be so good.

Speaker 1 (19:43):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (19:44):
Would you rather listen to the Glee version let's have
a kieky turkey lurkey time every day for the rest
of your life?

Speaker 1 (19:49):
Oh god?

Speaker 2 (19:51):
Or Gungham style.

Speaker 1 (19:56):
Oh that's a good one. Oh god, They're both so bad.
Must have a kiki.

Speaker 2 (20:07):
I would say Kungham style. Wow, I get to hear
your voice. Would you rather have a Thanksgiving meal cooked
by Bert Hummel or Emma Pillsbury?

Speaker 1 (20:19):
I think Bert Hummel. I think actually Emma Pillsbury just
feels like to too clean.

Speaker 2 (20:27):
Yeah, I think like Bert would get down dirty. Yeah,
and maybe store bought, but that's fine in the garden.

Speaker 1 (20:34):
Would touch the bird, you know?

Speaker 2 (20:36):
Yeah? Okay, If you're gonna buye one Glee character joining
Thanksgiving dinner, who would it be?

Speaker 1 (20:42):
And why this is a tough one. I don't know.
I don't know, I don't know.

Speaker 2 (20:52):
It's really hard to separate the characters from the People, right,
because I'm gonna the same.

Speaker 1 (21:03):
But that's not Mercedes. No, Susi Vester, because she'd be interesting.

Speaker 2 (21:11):
We have the same answers.

Speaker 1 (21:12):
Wow, yeah, okay.

Speaker 2 (21:14):
Same, Okay, you're ready. Which character do you think would
host the best Thanksgiving dinner?

Speaker 1 (21:22):
I'm going with Kurt and Blane. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 2 (21:26):
Kurt for sure. If Glee character is supposed to a
friends giving pot luck, which character do you think would
bring the most interesting dish?

Speaker 1 (21:33):
Brittany Yes, definitely Brittany. Definitely Brittany or maybe Sam?

Speaker 2 (21:39):
Yes? What would Already bring? And what would Tina bring?

Speaker 1 (21:44):
Oh my god?

Speaker 2 (21:47):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (21:49):
I feel like Artie would bring dessert?

Speaker 2 (21:53):
Yeah? Or I feel like he might bring some sort
of cast role.

Speaker 1 (21:56):
Oh that's good, like a green bean cast role. Yeah,
I think he might bring green bean cast role. I
think Tina would bring mash like sweet patadas.

Speaker 2 (22:05):
I am so hungry.

Speaker 1 (22:09):
Well, happy Thanksgiving everybody. We hope you're enjoying it. Thank
