(01:51):
been in the coffee business forever. But let's start the
show up with some love and some positivity. Let's shine
a light eight hundred and two nine two fifty one

to shine a light on? His way up.
Speaker 1 (02:04):
Turn your lights on, y'alls, bread and love to those
who are doing greatness, Light on, shine light on.
Speaker 3 (02:13):
It's time to shine a light on all right.
Speaker 2 (02:15):
This way you put Angela Yee on Jasmine's birthday, on
my own brand, and it's time to shine a light.
And today I want to shine a light on E
forty sun Imari Stevens. He has a line of health
conscious food seasonings right now. And I like this idea
because a lot of times with seasonings, like you want
to put seasonings on your food, but you're like, ooh
(02:36):
is as healthy as as good for you? Well, he
has this vegan, Paleo friendly, gluten free, Keto friendly, low sodium,
non GMO and sugar free seasonings.
Speaker 6 (02:45):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (02:45):
And this is also in response to the high rates
of hypertension affecting the black community. So there's a healthy
way that you can season your favorite meals and also
make sure that it's still flavorful without the excess of sodium.
It's called Finesse. Try finess dot com now, and Marie
Stevens said, the inspiration came from my love of cooking
and my desire to create a seasoning that would truly
(03:07):
reflect my skill in the kitchen. That's Finesse was born.
Shout out to him. I'm it's eight dollars a battle, yeah,
and it's at trithiness dot com. Now. Who do you
guys want to shine a light on? Eight hundred and
two ninety two fifty one fifty Shari, Who do you
want to shine a light.
Speaker 7 (03:22):
On I want to sign the light on my kids.
My oldest son, he'll be twenty three in January. That's Kevin.
My second oldest son, he will be twenty one in June.
Speaker 3 (03:32):
That's Jaden's Jayden.
Speaker 7 (03:34):
And my daughter will be nineteen in June as well,
that's Essence. And my youngest son O Mari, he will
be seventeen in April. And my granddaughter will be three
years old New Year's Eve. All right, Yes, I want
to sign the light on them because it's like it's
been hard for the past couple of years for us,
and they always been my reason since I had the
(03:56):
first one to the last one. But I'm definitely proud
of myself because I'm and I'm not giving up.
Speaker 2 (04:02):
Oh well, we are proud of you too.
Speaker 7 (04:04):
Thank you so much, and I appreciate y'all, and I
love your soul.
Speaker 2 (04:07):
I thank you, We love you.
Speaker 7 (04:09):
We got to have a happy holiday you.
Speaker 2 (04:10):
Too, all right. Well that was Shina Light eight hundred
and two ninety two fifty one fifty in case you
couldn't get through. And when we come back, we have
your yee tea. And there is nothing more embarrassing than
when you're supposed to be somewhere as security comes and
tells you to get out, We'll tell you what iconic
celebrity this just happened to, and he is heartbroken over it.
Will tell you about his way out.
Speaker 3 (04:30):
From industry shade to all.
Speaker 1 (04:32):
Of gossip out send Angela's spiling that eet.
Speaker 2 (04:36):
All right, his way up at Angela Yee, I'm here.
The birthday girl Jasmine brand is here.
Speaker 5 (04:40):
I'm not just any brand, I'm my own brand.
Speaker 2 (04:44):
And let's get into this yet flavor Flave. He was
upset because he was kicked out at the Rockefeller Center
Christmas tree lighting last night. He said, I feel weird.
I was invited to the Rockefeller tree lighting tonight and
I was escorted to see my boys, the Backstreet Boys,
and we were backstage in their dressing room. Security came
up to me and says, NBC does not want me
in this area and I need to leave. At the
(05:06):
same time, their social media woman came up and asked
to capture social content. What did I ever do to
NBC or anyone? All I ever do is try to
spread love and joy, and I think I did that
for NBC at the.
Speaker 5 (05:16):
Olympics, interesting. I wonder what happened, like, what was going
on behind the scenes that you know, I have no idea.
Speaker 2 (05:23):
Yesterday was a crazy day though, And to be clear,
the tree is right here. That's also where like a
couple of blocks from where that CEO of United Healthcare
was shot and killed. So maybe security was being like
extra ridiculous.
Speaker 5 (05:36):
It's crazy over here though, yes, but.
Speaker 2 (05:37):
You can't be trying to get social content from someone
at the same time that you're kicking them out. Then
he posted, I deleted the tweet, but my spirit is broken.
And somebody said, I'm sorry that happened to you. NBC
was wrong and the backsheet boys should have spoken up,
and he said they spoke up for me. They sure did.
But he still did go and enjoy the tree lighting,
play be outside. He did the iHeart Festival. We see
(06:00):
him out and about everybody loves him, all right. Doctor
Shyanne Bryant is talking now. She was on Fox Soul
and she was talking about Neo and analyzing his polyamorous
lifestyle and what led him to that path because he
was married but now he's living in his truth and
having multiple partners. Here's what she had to say.
Speaker 8 (06:21):
He's a womanizer. He cheated on his wife and that's
why she left him. He didn't cheat once, he cheated
over and over again. You wanted to be married but
didn't have the discipline to do it, and your wife
left you because she didn't tolerate that, and so she
pivoted from you. And now you're going and he's making
these other women pay for the heartbreak that he calls
to himself. So now you want to make sure you
put out into the world.
Speaker 2 (06:38):
Look at me.
Speaker 8 (06:38):
I want to be power, Aramis because I cheated. Know
you failed in your marriage. Now you need to heal
from that and not have these self project your pain
onto these women about your messed up decision making.
Speaker 2 (06:48):
She needs to speak to him directly. I would like
to see that.
Speaker 5 (06:50):
Will we talk about this clip? Last night? I was saying,
I really feel like guys that have these kind of
like they really want to be back home. Though Neil
probably missus, Crystal.
Speaker 2 (06:59):
I think sometimes people are torn because we remember they
broke up, but then they got back together, worked it out,
they spent the pandemic together. It looked like they were
back on a lot of times, guys want the benefits
of being in a relationship and feeling stable and having
someone taking care of you.
Speaker 5 (07:14):
But want to step out sometimes.
Speaker 2 (07:15):
But still want to have some freedom to do what
they want to do. But they don't want you to
have that freedom, not at all, and don't want you
to know they want to sneak around out in. Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 5 (07:23):
The whole thing is they don't want you to do
that thing.
Speaker 2 (07:25):
All right, and shout out to masterp. He has been
announced as a keynote speaker for spring commencement at Grambling
State University nicee BCU. So that's exciting for that graduating class.
It's going to be Friday, May tenth. But that's a
dope person to have as your speaker.
Speaker 5 (07:44):
He's really had longevity in this game too.
Speaker 2 (07:46):
And not just in this game but outside of it too,
and I think that's important and also for community advocacy
and yes, just think about when he first started and
where he is now and still doing the thing. All right,
Well that is your when we come back, we have
about last night. That's where we discussed what we did
last night. We did get to talk to a relationship expert,
(08:06):
a matchmaking coach. We'll discussed it all. It's way up
so about.
Speaker 3 (08:12):
Last night, I went down.
Speaker 2 (08:17):
It's way up at Angela. Yee, I'm here, Jasmine brand
is here.
Speaker 5 (08:20):
It's not just on my own brand.
Speaker 2 (08:22):
I know that's right. And today's your birthday.
Speaker 5 (08:24):
I have my birthday gift on. Angela got me a necklace.
I don't have the arrings on, but thank you Angela
for my birthday. You don't give me really nice gifts. Good,
I'm glad you like it. I like jewelery and you
give me things you like, which I like.
Speaker 2 (08:35):
One of the things. I think that's always a rule
for buying somebody a present. So you were like, what
would I love? I don't buy somebody a gift that
you wouldn't want. Your last birthday gift I really loved.
I kind of wanted it to keep it for myself
and then you borrow it all the time. But the
other thing we did last night was lip service. Yes,
so we had a relationship expert and she also does
(08:58):
matchmaking and she also works with tender Devin Simone. I
like her was on the show. She had some really
amazing advice. It kind of makes you look at yourself
and be like, maybe I do need to work on this.
Speaker 5 (09:09):
I actually learn some stuff from her, so I liked her.
Speaker 2 (09:11):
You know, one of the things that we talked about,
and in particular with Jordan on lib Service, we were
talking about paying on a date because she was like,
she thinks a man should you know, pay, because I'm like,
sometimes I'll be like, well, I'll get the tip, yeah,
you know, because I also am big on making sure
somebody leaves the right.
Speaker 5 (09:27):
Tip yeah, and so it's embarrassing when they don't.
Speaker 2 (09:29):
Yeah, So sometimes before you know somebody really well, you
might be like, oh, I'll get the tip, don't worry
about it because you want to make sure it's a
good tip. But she said she likes to buy people gifts.
She did say so you can hear what Devin Simone
had to say about that, because she gave some really
good advice about you know, paying for that. I know
that's always a conversation.
Speaker 5 (09:49):
Every time I pay for a guy, they're always like,
oh my god, no one's ever done that for me.
Or when I get a guy a nice giding, oh
my god. Yeah, like my man, I'm like he's like,
oh my god, no one's ever got me a such
and such Like mm hmm, yeah, big deal.
Speaker 2 (10:00):
Like who's raising these ladies kidding but and again, and
then after that we went in and celebrated your birthday.
You got a cake, Yeah, thanks to Cali.
Speaker 4 (10:11):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (10:11):
Maybe he did lip service last night as well.
Speaker 5 (10:13):
It was going to be an epic episode.
Speaker 2 (10:15):
It was introspective and it was and all of that.
Speaker 5 (10:19):
And you gave me. You gave me your birthday gifts
from last night.
Speaker 2 (10:21):
And I gave you a birthday gifts and we're still
going from last night now. Speaking of lip service for
Neest two times was on a recent episode, and one
of the things that he talked about and I saw
this clip ended up in a lot of different places,
was putting his woman through a lot. You know, for
a period of time, he had several girlfriends and now
he has one and he is back to being monogamous.
(10:43):
That's what he wants to do, that's where he wants
to be. But he felt like she had to be
a soldier.
Speaker 6 (10:49):
Oh my gosh, like that.
Speaker 2 (10:50):
Here's what he said.
Speaker 9 (10:52):
She she went through the trials and tribulations, she went
through the storm, Like I feel like she was able
to deal with everything. It wasn't easy for it though,
And this is what I respected, because she put up
a fight. It made me understand did she care?
Speaker 5 (11:08):
No.
Speaker 2 (11:10):
Now we want to get you guys to call in though,
because it is hard relationships and sometimes we do things
and stay in relationships. We're like, I can't believe I've
stayed through I went through that, but sometimes it does
work out after So we want to hear the craziest
thing that somebody put you through and you stayed with
them afterward. Eight hundred two ninety two fifty one fifty.
(11:30):
You always know what's crazy when you're embarrassed to tell anyone.
That's how you know you myself, that's how you know
you stayed too long. But the craziest thing that somebody
puts you through in a relationship and you stayed eight
hundred two ninety two fifty one to fifty call us
up this way up.
Speaker 5 (11:42):
Ye yee is but you all been waiting for Oh.
Speaker 3 (11:45):
Oh, you're tapped in the way up with Angela yee.
Speaker 2 (11:50):
Yes, it's way up with Angela yee. I'm here, Jasmine
Brand is here.
Speaker 5 (11:53):
I'm not just needy brand, I'm my own brand.
Speaker 2 (11:55):
We drinking coffee, he yeap, calming it down today on
your birthday. But we want to talk out something that
finessed two times discussed when he was on lip Service.
That episode is out right now and he was talking
about going from being in a polyamorous relationship to being
monogamous and the woman that he's with now, he says
he put her through a whole lot. Here's what he said.
Speaker 9 (12:16):
She never looked, she went through the trials and trib
relations she went through the storm like. I feel like
she was able to deal with everything, Like it wasn't
easy for though, Like, and this is what I respected
because she.
Speaker 6 (12:29):
Put up a fight. It made me understand that she care.
Speaker 5 (12:33):
I hate that. I hate that for her.
Speaker 2 (12:36):
Uh And listen, relationships, I feel like if I have
to put up a fighter and go through too much,
too much, you know, I'm not going, what's the worst
thing somebody's done to you? And U stayed?
Speaker 5 (12:45):
When I was younger, this god was having kids with
other women and you stayed. He kept saying it wasn't
his kids, so but yeah, it looked just so, and
it was telling him daddy, and it.
Speaker 6 (12:55):
Was a junior.
Speaker 2 (12:56):
So you know, I feel like I'm not the type
of person that puts up with at of stuff. But
I do think that I know I'm going to break
up with somebody before I do it, I like kind
of prepare myself and get myself in that mode because
I did. I definitely had an ex boyfriend who used
to cheat on me all the time. I mean it
was ridiculous. Oh you did stay for a little bit.
I stay for a little bit, but I was like
(13:16):
halfway out. Yeah, and then I was able to just
cut it off and never.
Speaker 5 (13:20):
Go back because we check out first anyway we do.
Speaker 2 (13:22):
One time a woman came up to us at a party,
Oh my goodness and was crying like you're just slapping
me over the weekend.
Speaker 5 (13:28):
Oh my god.
Speaker 2 (13:29):
He was like, oh, what are you talking about? But
we want to know what you guys have to say.
What is the craziest thing someone did to you? And
you stayed eight hundred two nine two fifty one fifty
all right? Now we had someone on the line. She
does want to be anonymous. So what happened?
Speaker 10 (13:44):
I found out this guy, but I didn't see like
no exactly like I just did the day saying what
you're doing like the touch to kilm So I have
found out that.
Speaker 2 (13:56):
Did you confront him?
Speaker 3 (13:58):
Yeah?
Speaker 10 (13:58):
I did, and he like walk he walked away. From it,
and he kept trying to deny it, but eventually, like,
because he spent a lot of time in pretty.
Speaker 5 (14:08):
Good so you stayed with him afterwards? How long are
you guys still together together? Okay?
Speaker 2 (14:17):
Do you think he's still doing anything or you think
he's beau?
Speaker 3 (14:21):
I have a.
Speaker 5 (14:24):
Let me ask you this. Did it make you insecure sexually?
Like did you feel like I can't compete? Or how
did you get past that?
Speaker 10 (14:30):
I really think it was more of a bi sexual
thing because I did he like when.
Speaker 7 (14:35):
When I left alone a little bit, he was trying
to mess with women too.
Speaker 10 (14:38):
So I don't know. I don't know how to go
about stuff like that.
Speaker 2 (14:41):
I just liked whatever.
Speaker 5 (14:42):
He just okay, he just likes I don't.
Speaker 11 (14:44):
I don't know how to deal with that.
Speaker 10 (14:45):
So it's like saying, maybe he's carrying I.
Speaker 5 (14:48):
Don't know, and you're still and the relationship is going good.
Speaker 3 (14:52):
Yeah?
Speaker 10 (14:52):
Good Now it happened like two years ago.
Speaker 5 (14:54):
I haven't okay, but thank you for calling, thanks for sharing.
Speaker 2 (14:58):
She's staying in it.
Speaker 5 (14:59):
It worked out for I'm not secure.
Speaker 2 (15:01):
Enough he heard. So, what's the craziest thing that somebody
put you through? And you stayed?
Speaker 10 (15:08):
My current situation my current husband. He beat the living
crap out of meat and threw me outside and I
was homeless for about three four weeks and he took
me back in and now work together. We have not
been through any abusive situations.
Speaker 3 (15:23):
We have not been through.
Speaker 10 (15:24):
Any domestic violence. We've been killing for a ball.
Speaker 2 (15:27):
For he long.
Speaker 10 (15:28):
We've been together for nine years now.
Speaker 5 (15:30):
Did he only do it one time? Not only, but
he did it one time?
Speaker 2 (15:33):
And did you tell anybody I did it?
Speaker 10 (15:36):
I did tell one to one person that was my
best friend because she helped me.
Speaker 2 (15:41):
Okay, And what does she think about all of this?
Is she like, okay? He changed? Did he do anything
to get help?
Speaker 12 (15:46):
Like?
Speaker 2 (15:46):
How did you? How did he get back?
Speaker 10 (15:48):
He needed to go get help. He was off of something,
and I guess that must have messed with his mind.
And he thought I was cheating on him, and the
whole time I wasn't. And he found out the two
said I really wasn't cheating on him, and then he
took me back. I wind up going back and we've
been married ever since.
Speaker 2 (16:03):
Let's be clear, you took him back because after that,
that's a lot to have gone through. And I am
happy that you are safe.
Speaker 10 (16:12):
We are we are very safe or happy now okay,
now he's in the right head safe, So now we're
on the road.
Speaker 2 (16:19):
All right, Well, thank you for sharing with us. That's
a tough one. That's rare because you know, I always say,
put your hands on me. It's a wrap. But she
managed to work through it, and I'm grateful.
Speaker 6 (16:29):
That it has happened.
Speaker 2 (16:30):
If anybody asked you, you'll be like, do not go back. Yeah,
all right, Well you guys keep on calling us up
and leave a message eight hundred two nine fifty one
fifty for the last word, because y'all are really calling
up here with some stories.
Speaker 5 (16:42):
They going through it.
Speaker 2 (16:42):
All right. When we come back, we have your yee tea,
and let's talk about Andrew Schultz versus Kendrick Lamar. Now
Kendrick Lamar did not name him, but he is responding
to Kendrick, So we'll talk about it.
Speaker 1 (16:54):
It's way up at let's get it.
Speaker 3 (16:57):
Angelus feeling that yet, Come.
Speaker 2 (16:59):
And get the tea, all right, put angela. Yeah, I'm here,
Jasmine brand is here.
Speaker 5 (17:04):
Yeah, it's not just on my own brand.
Speaker 2 (17:06):
Let's get into this et now. This is something that
has been bubbling and when Kenjack first dropped his album
g n X and Uh, the song whacked Out Murals
that was we were on the air, and I remember
listening to that song and this lyric in particular did
stick out to me. And people feel like he was
addressing Andrew Schultz, that comedian. Now here is why people
(17:29):
think that. Andrew Schultz said this while he was sitting
down on his podcast Flagrant. He was talking to two
other are the comedians podcasters black men, And here's what happened.
Speaker 6 (17:42):
What is the black girlfriend infect up the other culture?
Speaker 5 (17:45):
Yeah, so you'll see a guy who's had a black girlfriend.
Speaker 3 (17:48):
All of a sudden, he's called buzz Like.
Speaker 11 (17:49):
Yeah, they shaved their hair because they start losing it
because they're so stressed around this black girl complaining about
there's more cushion when.
Speaker 2 (17:59):
They get slapped the do you guys? Do you guys
have you ever had black girlfriends?
Speaker 6 (18:03):
Have you read white girls?
Speaker 3 (18:04):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (18:05):
What's your favorite love the moment?
Speaker 2 (18:10):
All right? And that's James and fou had from s
h x T, I Can't Say It and gigs Right.
That's their podcast. It's an award winning podcast. And so
people were up in arms over this. I saw a
lot of people commenting on how how come they didn't
defend black women. I saw Ryan Clark did a whole
post about it and talked about it as well. And
(18:33):
Kendrick had this line and whacked out mural. Here's what
he said, don't let no white median talk about no
black woman law. Okay, Now he didn't mention any names.
He did not, So people were speculating. A lot of
people felt like it was about about Andrew Schultz and
this particular podcast because there was a lot of backlash.
There was, you know, and and the two guys said
(18:56):
they were sorry for these jokes, and they apologized for
engaging with racist jokes. They did it on another show.
Andrew schol did not. He was basically like, I'm going
to double down on it in tents down. They said
it it is what it is. Now Here is what
Andrew should had to say in response to that line
that people feel like was addressing him.
Speaker 11 (19:17):
Rappers are telling comedians we need to be more respectful
to women, So we gotta really we got to sit
back and reflect. Yeah, listen, nobody has respected women more
you thrue art than rappers. Okay, absolutely, so I completely
understand how a rapper could look at a comedian telling a.
Speaker 2 (19:32):
Joke and be like, yo, yan need to switched that
all right? So yeah, so still you know, making sure
that he's he even if if he does feel like
Kendrick is addressing him, he's not walking that back at
all in any way. And here's what else he had
to say. And this is a comment that people were
definitely commenting on. It went viral.
Speaker 7 (19:54):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (19:54):
He made a joke about Kendrick Lamar. Here's what he said.
Speaker 11 (19:58):
First of all, Kendrick's people and the gang affiliate and
everybody who's security, they will kill me.
Speaker 2 (20:03):
I'm not a tough guy, y'all do But just Kendrick,
I would make love to him.
Speaker 3 (20:08):
That's not what he could do about it.
Speaker 11 (20:09):
The only thing that he could do is decide if
it's consensual or.
Speaker 5 (20:13):
I don't like that.
Speaker 13 (20:15):
I don't.
Speaker 2 (20:15):
I don't like the sexual assault jokes consensual or not.
Speaker 5 (20:19):
First of all, it's just an odd joke, like I like,
I don't all, I don't know. I'm not with that,
he said.
Speaker 2 (20:24):
If I if it came down to it, I could
put him on my lap, feed him a bottle, and
make love to him. If I wanted. I don't like that,
and I saw a punch who's the president of TD
said wait, I know, as a black man who's involved
in hip hop music that we are a bit slow
and don't really understand sarcasm and humor. But did my
guy say he went to sleep with dot?
Speaker 5 (20:41):
Yeah, I don't it's not I don't know. It's not
funny to me. I don't know.
Speaker 2 (20:44):
And I shall say, oh, Shay Jackson Junior said weird
a and word yes, and he said he used to
for him, but that was weird.
Speaker 5 (20:53):
I don't like Andrew Schultz.
Speaker 2 (20:54):
All right, Well that is you're yeezy. When we come back,
we have under the radar. These are the stories that
are not necessarily in the headline. They're under the radar,
but you need to know about them. It's way up.
But let's hear some Kendrick Lamara TV off. It's way
up newssition in the news that relates to you.
Speaker 3 (21:10):
These stories are flying under the radar.
Speaker 2 (21:12):
It's way up. At Angela, yee I'm here, Jasmine Brand
is here.
Speaker 5 (21:15):
On her birthday on my own brand.
Speaker 2 (21:18):
Look at you working on your birthday.
Speaker 5 (21:19):
Look at me. That was last year on my birthday
I was here last year.
Speaker 2 (21:22):
We just had a whole conversation before we get into
under the Radar behind the scenes. If you could listen
to one of these three artists for the rest of
your life and only this one, right, who would you
pick out of Travis Scott, Young Thug or Future? And
Dan wants to talk so.
Speaker 6 (21:36):
Bad, I mean, narrow this down to me. Yeah, I
would probably have to go with Travis Scott. And it
was really hard for me to choose between Travis and Future.
It's actually like an.
Speaker 5 (21:46):
Impossible have you been to a future? Have you been
to a Thug's future?
Speaker 4 (21:51):
Awful?
Speaker 6 (21:53):
Finished number one in my.
Speaker 2 (21:56):
Now performance wise, Travis Scott definitely, yeah, I will say musically,
I might. I might say future. Out of those three,
what about you?
Speaker 5 (22:04):
I think I would say future as well. I don't
think Thug has enough for me, but a future, Yeah, Like, yeah,
I think future.
Speaker 2 (22:10):
But I'm saying that's a nice threesome to pick from,
like three people, three pack that had a nice day past.
But that's you know, because I think everybody would would
argue and debate this. What would you say? Maybe you
said future? Okay, okay, all right? He had to say
a different names be so cool. All right, Now let's
(22:31):
get into this end of the radar story. We had
time for one. Oh there was a survey of men
and it was what fast food restaurant would you most
likely take a first date to? WHOA Okay, Now, when
I first saw this, I didn't know that they were
saying fast food. I thought they just meant like, where
would you take a first date? So I'm gonna tell
you who took the top spot as far as fast
(22:52):
food restaurants where you would take a first date? Chick
fil A. I can see that that was number one
on the list. Now this is also different state by
state because some places don't have a lot of Chick
fil A's, right, but yes, that was number one on
the Chick fil A is McDonald's second here, the second
option place for a date, and this wouldn't fly here
because we don't have a lot of these. Dairy Queen.
Speaker 5 (23:13):
Dairy Queen, they used to be one in Baltimore and
they had buffalo chicken tenders. They were so good.
Speaker 2 (23:17):
You take me on a date to get ice cream,
and the dates over about twenty minutes after your stomach
is bubbling after the ice cream. And then number three
was Sonic drive in and Pizza Hut.
Speaker 5 (23:27):
I've never been to Sonic, but I had. I don't mind.
Speaker 2 (23:30):
They just had been a Sonic in Brooklyn near my house.
Speaker 5 (23:33):
Pizzas pizza is not that bad for a first date,
just pizza in general. I think that's fine.
Speaker 2 (23:37):
All right, Well, there you have it, and that is
you're under the radar now, you know, we have the
Way Up mixed at the top of the hour. Plus,
we have a really fun guest joining us today, Jay One.
He is Jay to Kiss his son. But he also
has an EP that's out. Is it out now? Yes?
It's out because when I talked to him, I think
it was about to drop. And he's also on the
Joe Button podcast. But he's pretty dope and you're gonna
(23:59):
enjoy him in His personality is amazing too. And he's
part of the family business Kiss Cafe. It's a coffee
company him, his father and his grandfather. It's way up.
Speaker 7 (24:08):
She's like the like they Angela Jean, like they Angela
Jean Man.
Speaker 3 (24:12):
She's spilling it all. This is yet.
Speaker 2 (24:15):
Well all right as way up at Angela Gee. I'm here,
Jasmine brand is here. I'm not just any brand I'm
my home Sagittarius season, Yes, ma'am. Let's get y'all out
the way, all right. And Canada has their first ever
w NBA team, the Toronto Tempo.
Speaker 5 (24:33):
Nice.
Speaker 2 (24:34):
Yes, so congratulations to them.
Speaker 5 (24:36):
You know, I love the WNBA, which I'm avor WNBA
team of course in New York Liberty.
Speaker 2 (24:40):
Okay, don't play with us. What's the mascot, I'm Ellie.
Speaker 5 (24:43):
She's so cute.
Speaker 2 (24:44):
Yes, we love Ellie. Ellie is the best mascot in
any sport anywhere.
Speaker 5 (24:48):
He's hype mm hm.
Speaker 2 (24:50):
She'd be on red carpets like she'd be outside, all right.
Jamie Fox his specialist coming on Netflix December tenth. It's
called What had Happened Was And He's gonna talk about
his medical emergency. There's been a lot of speculation about
what's in this special. People that went to the special
we're like, oh my god, he said this, he said,
Daddy said diddy, he said this. Here's the trailer position
(25:13):
up after Jamie Fox.
Speaker 3 (25:15):
The family members rushed to the hospital.
Speaker 6 (25:17):
Should be praying for the problem on that like somebody
in the clothes farmingium.
Speaker 5 (25:20):
Lady Jamie Fox has now spent more than two weeks
and in Atlanta hospital.
Speaker 3 (25:25):
Jermy Fox literally died. What had happened was.
Speaker 2 (25:30):
Okay, all right, so I guess we're gonna figure out
what happened.
Speaker 5 (25:34):
It's about time. It's happened in April.
Speaker 2 (25:36):
And you know what, though, he did it the right way.
Make sure you good to go right, film your special.
It's kind of like, I mean, not as major as this,
but Chris Rocky waited. He did his special. He didn't
get punched.
Speaker 5 (25:50):
Slashes they yeah, I mean, okay, he didn't get punching.
Speaker 2 (25:54):
His slap is different.
Speaker 5 (25:55):
I'd rather get punched, you know what, you.
Speaker 2 (25:58):
Say that about everything?
Speaker 5 (26:00):
Then I get spin on.
Speaker 2 (26:01):
Somebody said that they spin on someone. You sid rather
get punched.
Speaker 5 (26:04):
I would rather get punched in a lot of things.
You rather get slapped as a man, having another man
slap you. I'd rather get.
Speaker 2 (26:10):
Punched things that are going to really bother and triggering him. Okay,
all right, Steve Harvey, we're sharing the key to a
successful marriage. Right. He was on the talk, and here's
what he had to say. Keep your damn mouth shut.
Speaker 3 (26:27):
Best, don't say nothing.
Speaker 6 (26:28):
There ain't no trying to fix that way. You ain't
got to fix what.
Speaker 3 (26:30):
If you're right.
Speaker 2 (26:33):
Okay, I don't know about that. And I said this
did go viral and people were talking about it because
I don't think that keeping your mouth shut is I mean,
I'm not married, so maybe I'm wrong.
Speaker 5 (26:44):
Maybe sometimes keeping your mouth shut.
Speaker 2 (26:46):
But I think that conversation is healthy. We always talk
about communicating, I know, but sometimes how important it is
to communicate.
Speaker 5 (26:52):
Sometimes you gotta you know, no one to like you
know what you got this?
Speaker 2 (26:55):
Okay? Also, I think it's how you approach things and
how you say.
Speaker 5 (26:59):
Things, so you want to talk about it every time, Angela.
Speaker 2 (27:01):
I think that if we're getting into it and I
just keep my mouth shut, sometimes that makes people matter.
If you don't say anything and I just keep my
mouth shut, like hello, you don't have anything to say.
We're not going to engage in a conversation. And then
if you don't get off your chest, but it is
that you want to say later on, that can turn
into something that explodes.
Speaker 5 (27:18):
So you've never walked away and you're like, I know
I'm right, but I'm just gonna.
Speaker 2 (27:21):
I'm not gonna say never. But I wouldn't give that
as my advice what to do in general.
Speaker 5 (27:26):
You got to be quiet, you know, yeah, just in life.
Speaker 2 (27:28):
But I think, yes, sometimes you do have to be quiet.
But I think if, like with with my man, I
don't not communicate. If we get into it, I'm gonna say,
as a matter of fact, he would hate for me
to not say anything. Yeah, all right, And Dan, you
look like you want to say something or do you
want to keep your damn mouth shut?
Speaker 6 (27:45):
No, if he's right, would you admit it? Would you
take accountability?
Speaker 2 (27:49):
And he does that too, and I appreciate it.
Speaker 5 (27:51):
Oh gosh, Angela's she's not. She's not all the way.
Speaker 6 (27:55):
Everybody's got a plan until you get punch.
Speaker 2 (27:58):
But I don't know about it. Even if like say,
you think that you're right, he thinks he's right. I
think we should talk about it, because sometimes it's not
about being right or wrong. It's about expressing yourself.
Speaker 5 (28:08):
I feel like sometimes we just gotta just okay.
Speaker 2 (28:10):
Let me keep my mouth shut. All right, Well, that
is your Yet when we come back, we have asked
ye eight hundred and two ninety two fifty one fifty
is and I'm gonna call us up any question that
you have. We are here to help, and you know what,
keep your mouth shut and kiss me through the phone
sway up?
Speaker 3 (28:23):
Look, yeah, you want to know my name? Way up
with angela ye?
Speaker 6 (28:27):
Turn me on?
Speaker 2 (28:28):
Oh yes, baby, it's way up with angela Ye. What's
today's date?
Speaker 5 (28:32):
December five? Jasmine brand is here my favorite day of
the week.
Speaker 2 (28:36):
Two yeah. And it's also the most iconic birthday song ever.
Is Stevie Wonder's Happy Birthday? And what You're Gonna Love
is Stevie Wonder. We know is a legend. Yes, he
is one of the most influential R and B artists
of all time. I think there's no debate when it
comes to that. He has five albums over a five
year period that it released from Music of My Mind
(28:56):
in nineteen seventy one to nineteen seventy six, songs in
the key of life that defined an eraror a generation
and a movement. The Wonder of Stevie, by the way,
is something that you can listen to right now if
you go to audible dot com slash Wonder and you
can do a deep dive. We love a deep dive
into these tremendously prolific songs, these albums, this whole period.
(29:20):
Breaking down each album track by track and there's also
musical and cultural analysis. There's a great lineup of guests
like Barack and Michelle Obama, Nice Questlove, Smokey Robinson, who
I did get a chance to meet twice and I
got to introduce my mom to smoking, Janelle Monet who
we love, George Clinton, and Moore. And it's a full
series with exclusive bonus episodes featuring Stevie and President Barack
(29:44):
Obama in a deeply moving conversation. So you can listen
to this now, go to audible dot com. Slash Wonder
Happy Birthday too. Yeah, sorry, Stevie, but we had to
do it. But anyway, here's the trailer for that.
Speaker 3 (29:57):
Lady and gentlemen, Stevie Wonder.
Speaker 11 (30:00):
Ooops, this we're going to talk about Stevie Wonder and
the world that made this classic period possible, featuring Barack Obama.
Speaker 2 (30:07):
He could define our own reality costs love.
Speaker 3 (30:10):
That album taught me to dream, to know more name Steve.
Speaker 5 (30:13):
You made me see myself.
Speaker 8 (30:15):
Differently, and it just made sense to hear from stev
to be able to make the sounds that I was
hearing in my mind and was excited.
Speaker 2 (30:22):
All right, I met Stevie Wonder once it was Hillary
Clinton's birthday and he sang, happy birdy you were there
and we're interviewing Hillary Clinton. And that was the surprise.
Oh nice, that was the hot sauce in her bag interview.
All right, well, when we come back, we have asked
ye eight hundred two ninety two fifty one fifty any
question you have. We're here to help. Here's Kendrick Lamar
not like us.
Speaker 1 (30:41):
It's way up, whether it's relationship, for career advice, Angela's
dropping facts you should.
Speaker 3 (30:46):
You should know.
Speaker 2 (30:47):
This is asked what's up? His way up at Angela? Yee,
I'm here, and my girl Jasmine Brand, who's also celebrating
our birthday, is here, and we have another Jasmine on
the line for ask yee, what's up Jasmine?
Speaker 5 (30:59):
Huh oh yes, always see. How are you?
Speaker 3 (31:03):
So?
Speaker 2 (31:03):
What's your question for asking you today? Okay?
Speaker 4 (31:06):
So I've been to know lationship with this guy for
a year and a half. He's from the street. I'm
professional and I'm taking care of him in a sense.
And that's why that's one of the reasons why I'm like,
all right, you should step back, give me space, get
your life together. You know, I don't think that I
should have to be burdened by what you're going through,
(31:27):
especially when I'm going through so much with my health.
Speaker 6 (31:30):
But because of my health, he like guilts me.
Speaker 2 (31:32):
People when they help you and do things for you,
it should never be because they expect you to do
something in return. He should be helping you because he
wanted to and things don't work out sometimes. You should
never feel guilty if things aren't working out, because you know,
what's more harmful to stay longer in the situations that's
not serving you because if it's not serving you, it's
not serving him either.
Speaker 5 (31:52):
And also feel like it's like not the safest choice either,
Like you know, it really isn't.
Speaker 4 (31:57):
And that's why the part of leaving is a little hard. Yeah,
because he doesn't allow me to. So should I just
not care enough and get him arrested?
Speaker 3 (32:06):
No?
Speaker 2 (32:07):
Or no, then you're really guilty?
Speaker 13 (32:10):
No?
Speaker 2 (32:10):
No, So I stay do you guys live together?
Speaker 5 (32:15):
Notly?
Speaker 4 (32:16):
But yeah, you you hear what I'm.
Speaker 2 (32:18):
Saying, he doesn't all the time. Yeah, Well you have
to really set those boundaries.
Speaker 5 (32:23):
You got to make a plan.
Speaker 2 (32:24):
Yeah, and if that means that even like change those locks, move,
get you know, get there.
Speaker 6 (32:29):
You don't got keys.
Speaker 2 (32:31):
Okay, okay, but maybe you spend some time not at home.
Is there some place you can go and stay for
a little while and just kind of let him know
you're okay. But this is just not working for me,
and I have to go cold Turkey. And he doesn't
have to know where you are at least so that
he can't you know, if you pop up. Yeah, he
can't pop up and do those things.
Speaker 4 (32:50):
But I have tried a few of those things. It's
just that he gets crazy with like I'm gonna kill myself,
like all those things.
Speaker 6 (32:58):
So I kind of get trapped.
Speaker 2 (32:59):
Back listen, somebody tells you that, then you really have
to get away from them because you can't stay with
somebody because they're threatening. That that's a terrible person to
put on someone.
Speaker 5 (33:07):
And I think if.
Speaker 2 (33:08):
That's something that he feels, that's not on you, that's
on him.
Speaker 4 (33:12):
I'm fighting, Kanta, I'm doing so much to make sure
my life could continue. Yeah, and this is like an
extra added stress, and I'm like, how do I fight?
Speaker 2 (33:22):
And stress is not good for your health either with
you going through what you're going through, and if he
respects you and loves you and cares about you, he
should know that. I would say, you need to just
really stop communicating with him, because sometimes part of what
we do is we don't want to hurt somebody's feelings
and fell guilty. We want to still be friends and
that's just not possible right away. Yes, you know, so
(33:43):
you might have to just really cut off all communications.
If that's blocking his numbers, if it's yeah, look seriously,
if you can move and do that, do that, or
spend some time away from your home. You know what
you want to do, you know what you need to do.
You gotta do this for you.
Speaker 6 (33:59):
You got to choose you. Thank you so very much, ladies.
Speaker 2 (34:02):
All right, we're praying for you. Jazz manes, please do
I need it? All right? All right, God bless you.
Speaker 6 (34:09):
All right.
Speaker 2 (34:10):
Well that was ask ye eight hundred two nine two
fifty one fifty. If you couldn't get through, you could
leave a message. Will answer your question that way and
when we come back. Jay one is joining us. He
is an artist right now. He has the Belagio Suite
EP out as well as his new single Bruce Wayne.
But he's also in the coffee business with Kiss Cafe.
We'll talk about all of the things it's way up
with Angela yee.
Speaker 3 (34:30):
Look you want to know my name? Way up with
Angela ye.
Speaker 6 (34:35):
Turn me on.
Speaker 2 (34:36):
What's up? It's way up with Angela yee. I'm here,
and we got Jay one in the building chairs which
against some mercer and prince right now, so he can
try it out. This is your thing though, you're like
not just an artist, but you're also like a host.
Did that come from you think your dad or where
did that come from?
Speaker 12 (34:52):
I don't know if my father don't really like talking.
I think I always been inquisitive since.
Speaker 2 (34:56):
A kid, and I feel like you've been doing music
for quite some time. But maybe Jess recently started to say, Okay,
I'm taking this for real serious. So what was the
hesitancy earlier? Nethotism, that's a hesitance listen. I wish my
whole life I had somebody that could be like, if
you have some talent, let me help you get to
the next level. That's what a lot of people are
(35:18):
able to do. We look at Will Smith and his kids.
Speaker 6 (35:20):
It's amazing.
Speaker 12 (35:21):
Yeah, but it can have an adverse effect on your performance,
like because it's so much anticipation and hype and people
will listen to or watch you with the scope of
expecting to see your parent or whoever you get it
from instead of just letting you blossom on your own.
Speaker 6 (35:38):
But that was really it. And then it's like it's
a big shoes to feel.
Speaker 2 (35:42):
Yeah, but you're not necessarily filling his shoes. You're making
your own way.
Speaker 3 (35:46):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (35:46):
It's interesting because I interviewed Layla and you know, her
father's y'ah scene day, and that was the first time
she had ever like openly said that that was her dad.
And then even talking to Shi who is Method Man's.
Speaker 6 (35:59):
Daughter shout out to show.
Speaker 2 (36:01):
They literally would be like can we not bring up
Method Man? But it's also kind of like how can
you not? Right now? Talking to artists personality and business
owner Jay One, his father is Jada Kiss. You went
to Clark Atlanta. What did you think you were going
to do?
Speaker 6 (36:15):
I went for psychology.
Speaker 12 (36:16):
I got my bachelor's in psychology, Like I wanted to
be a psychologist.
Speaker 5 (36:20):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (36:20):
What was the experience like at Clark for you?
Speaker 6 (36:22):
Clark was amazing. Clark was amazing. If I could do
college over again, I would do it. The only thing
I wouldn't do is be in a relationship.
Speaker 2 (36:33):
You were in a relationship all through college.
Speaker 12 (36:35):
No, not the whole time, probably yeah and a half,
like like freshmen not like junior year, senior year.
Speaker 2 (36:41):
Why whuldn't you do that?
Speaker 6 (36:42):
I was wild, wild, but you had time.
Speaker 2 (36:46):
To be while you were wild freshman, sophomore, then junior
year you settled down.
Speaker 12 (36:51):
It just hindered you, I feel like, because there's so
much happening. And I also pledged while I was in school,
Like so there's so much happening, and then you never
have time for your partner or whoever you in a
relationship with. It's kind of like being in an entertainment industry,
always on the move, like, nah, I'm.
Speaker 6 (37:07):
Doing that, Like, but doing it in college was just
like I help myself back, Well, what went wrong? I
was a cheater? I was a cheatering?
Speaker 2 (37:20):
What was the pledging experience? Like for you do they
haze you real bad or pledging?
Speaker 6 (37:23):
It is tedious. I would never do it again. I
tell people.
Speaker 2 (37:27):
That you don't have to.
Speaker 6 (37:28):
Yeah, like I tell.
Speaker 12 (37:29):
People all the time, like if I could do it
over again, I would never do it again. Like what
it is an experience. It teaches you a lot of discipline,
it's a lot of focus, and it just it's a
humbling experience. Humbling as hell. Your life stops. You're not
on social media, your friends are out having fun. It's
really the sacrifices that you will go through, like you
might have to be at the radio station late, or
(37:50):
you gotta be at this event when you want to
have fun, you can't like everybody else in real life. Yeah, real,
it really is real life. Like it's just like this
is the goal. Everything else got to stop.
Speaker 2 (38:00):
All right. Jay Wan is here in his EP. The
Belagio Suite is available right now. We have more with
him when we come back. It's way up with Angela
yee y. Here we go upgin.
Speaker 3 (38:09):
This is way up with Angela ye.
Speaker 2 (38:12):
What's up? His way up with Angela yee. I'm here
and I'm joined by Jay One. His father is Jada Kiss.
Now let's talk about this Joe Button podcast before we
get to the music. Yes, so, how did this even,
like this evolution happen. I saw a lot of people
giving Joe flack for that too. They're like, oh, it's
Jada Kiss's son. I feel like they gave him more
flak for that than you do for the music. Like
I feel like for the music. People are like, Okay,
(38:32):
he's nice, he's dope. But then I feel like when
you said they're doing Joe Button, they'd be like, he
wouldn't have done that if it wasn't X, Y and Z.
How did it happen?
Speaker 6 (38:40):
So I like to say manifestation honestly.
Speaker 12 (38:44):
Because before I ever met Joe, ever did the part,
he used to be like, damn, I should be up there,
like you feel me because I used to disagree with
a lot of he saying, like Joe bugging. But me
and my pops and my Grandpap's went up there to
do the coffee promote the coffee and.
Speaker 6 (38:57):
We was talking. He's like, yo, you know how to
talk like with that, And I guess it got like.
Speaker 12 (39:01):
Good responses and everything from the fans and the viewership.
Speaker 6 (39:05):
And he called me. He DM me. He said, you'll
call me real quick. I called him.
Speaker 12 (39:08):
He's like, yoh, I think you should do it, and
I was hesitating. He like, don't look at it as
like it'll hinder you with your music career, to actually
help you because now it's going to bring you more traction.
But he definitely got a lot of flat they'll be
trying to kill me on Twitter, and I think.
Speaker 2 (39:20):
He said one of the things that he liked about
you is that you have strong opinions about things. I
really is what makes people kill you, you know, And
that's not a bad thing, though it's not.
Speaker 12 (39:29):
If I'm wrong, I say, all right, I was wrong.
I don't have no problem admitting I was wrong. But
I also look at stuff with a lot of logic,
and I know people don't usually do that. Some people
look at stuff from just emotions or personal views. Like
I'll take one personal views out of it and just
be like, logically, that don't make sense.
Speaker 2 (39:44):
Right now, I'm talking to artists, personality and business owner
Jay One. His father is Jadakiss. Musically, you do have
some songs that are great for the ladies too, you know,
a little vibe. I like the R and B hip
hop like you like for you? Is that?
Speaker 6 (39:59):
I like that one thank you music I just dropped
called Bruce Wayne.
Speaker 12 (40:04):
I dropped the EP on the fourteenth for my bro
Sefanoali from the Bronx called the Belagio Suite, which is
more like designer boom back rap.
Speaker 6 (40:12):
But I've been dropping every holiday since Labor Day.
Speaker 12 (40:14):
I'm I'm supposed to drop again for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and
then I'm gonna package it all up for the top
of the year, and then I'm just keep just dropping
a bunch of EPs three or four songs and.
Speaker 2 (40:24):
Pushing it out better than doing a full length album.
Speaker 12 (40:28):
Definitely see how I record. Most people come with like
this is the idea of the music I recording feeling.
So if I'm having a bad week or bad month,
the music is gonna sound like that, and I just
choose the best record and put it with the best records.
Speaker 6 (40:40):
So when I feel good.
Speaker 12 (40:41):
This is psychology, like yeah, Like I really break it
down from like a like a super mental standpoint. Like
so I just had when I'm having for the partying,
like when I did for you, I probably had a
bunch of records like that and it was just like,
all right, this is my favorite one. I put this
here with this like and that's how I do it.
But as far as a concept full of project, probably not.
It just be the best of all my moods put
(41:04):
together and just figuring out how I'm a sequence it.
